OCTOBER - DECEMBER 2020
WELCOME BACK We are super excited to be able to open our auditorium doors again on Friday 2 October! It’s been over six months since we closed and while there’s been silence on the live entertainment and cinema front, it’s been anything but silent behind these doors.
Within a week of the closures, our incredible Arts & Cultural Services team had a strategy to keep connecting with our audiences online. You probably came across the #artsbundyathome project. So many people participated in this, we’ve been blown away and incredibly impressed all at once. In that same week, we could see where the closures were going and that they weren’t going to be short-lived, so we started talking about community recovery. We talked about art being an act of optimism. We talked about art’s role in our community – that it is the vehicle to keep us talking to one another, learning from each other, making change together. We talked about blank pages and stages and that it’s the artist’s role, with the community around them, to fill those spaces, to imagine them into new life, new ideas and new
worlds. We talked about the fact that, actually, we are all artists. We’re all part of the collective imagining of what comes next. We’ve spent time revisiting what it is about the Moncrieff Entertainment Centre that makes us such a special place in our community’s heart. We keep coming back to one idea – we’re our community’s lounge room. It’s a common space, right in the middle of our CBD, where people can come for fun, to learn and to try new things, to think, to talk, to share a drink or bite to eat, and to laugh together. We’re everyone’s place. We’re a welcoming, open and friendly place celebrating everything there is to celebrate about our community through the performing arts and cinema. Anyone who’s followed our programming in the last few years would realise that it’s no longer necessary to travel to see the best the country has to offer. It’s all right here – right in your community lounge room. We’ve RESPRUNG our venue and our programming. While we’ve been closed, we’ve completely updated all of our food and beverage service areas, we’ve tidied up the foyer and we’ve undertaken major renovations in the auditorium to make it a safer and more contemporary experience for our audiences and artists alike. If you’re a regular, you won’t recognise the place. If you’re new to us or new to town, you’re in for a real treat. We’ve probably all spent a bit too much time in our own lounge rooms for the last six months. Maybe your couch looks a bit like the one on our program here. It’s time to get out. To get a spring in your step; to be with others; to join us in our region’s favourite lounge – the Moncrieff Entertainment Centre. Come and say hello. We’re COVID Safe and ready to share some great experiences with you.
See you soon!
