ON DECK Route: Upper-Mekong River Maiden Voyage: 2022 Operator: Heritage Line www.heritage-line.com

Boutique cruise operator Heritage Line has revealed details for its new ten-berth ship Anouvong, the first luxury boat to sail the upper-Mekong river in Laos. Scheduled to set sail in Q3 2022, the vessel will operate two itineries: a three-night journey between the Thai-Lao border town of Huay Xai to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Luang Prabang, as well as a longer journey from Huay Xai to Vientiane, the capital of Laos.

Interiors across Anouvong blend traditional Laotian handcrafted artwork with elegant French-colonial accents to offer guests a taste of the locale on board. The vessel accommodates eight 20m2 staterooms with French balconies spread across the two decks, in addition to two suites. Situated at the front of the main deck, the Signature Suites provide 30m2 of space with floor-to-ceiling glass doors that open onto private balconies. The two Signature Suites and the top-level living quarters feature individually designed interiors and include large bathrooms fitted with a Jacuzzi.

“Our aim was to build a luxury vessel with cabin sizes as large as possible, plus a range of enjoyable on-board facilities,” says Andreas Schroetter, Director of Sales & Marketing. “This was a challenge, as the Laotian Mekong River imposes natural restrictions such as fluctuating water levels, wandering sandbanks and winding curves that all impact the size of a ship.”

Anouvong’s F&B offer includes the Café-Bar & Lounge and De-Lagrée Dining Hall, which serve gourmet dishes, local delicacies and international favourites against a backdrop of gold-leaf. Further facilities such as the Bodhi Spa and al-fresco terrace deck, equipped with sun loungers and seating, provide views of the river and passing shoreline.
