The Role of Technologies in Migration In the modern time, time of intensive migration, technologies and innovations closely intertwind among themselves. Over the past decade there have been major technological innovations affecting our governments, working places and daily lives. Alongside these changes, and most obviously in the political sphere, international migration is increasingly being described as one of the defining issues of our time. But is there a link betweeen technologies and migration? Obviously, there is. [1]An estimated 272 million people (over 3% of the worlds population) are living outside their home country, and every year this number increases. Figure 1. Five Takeaways on Migration1. But what about technologies in migrants lives? We think it takes a huge part. [2]For example, some apps can help migrants find more comfortable or nearest routes to cross international borders. Also technologies can help migrants to be in touch with their families being far away from each other. Morever, new technologies can help to refugees, who were forced to leave their home countries for one reason or another, for example, some new technology applications can assist in providing refugees with other services and necessities at different stages of their journeys. Evidently, online platforms for education and training help displaced people update or acquire new skills and knowledge helpful for their return home or potential contribution to host societies. Besides, modern programms may help migrants find a job in a new place or learn a local language. Figure 2. Emerging technologies2 To sum up, we want to say that technologies continue to develop and in the near future they would be in all aspects of our life.
