Introduction JOTA-JOTI is the virtual communication and technology weekend in Scouting. We want to grow the activity over 5 years to a participation of 10% of all members. To achieve this goal our central offering of activities has to be improved. These activities have to be realised while meeting a number of prerequisites. Setting up this central offering will require a project organisation as well as a much larger standing organisation. The above is in short the JOTA-JOTI Mission and Vision 2015. The full description can be found in the JOTAJOTI Vision 2015 presentation from 15 April 2015. On 16 April 2011 the Vision 2015 was presented and discussed in the JOTA-JOTI Prepatory meeting in Geneve. Participants were Paolo Fiora, Victor Ortega, Richard Middelkoop, Holger Sickenberg, Yves Margot, Thierry Tournet, Jan Kluiver (skype meeting). The Mission and Vision 2015 was accepted in the meeting. As a next step 2 Web Conferences were organised. Objective of these meetings was to get feedback from the National JOTA-JOTI Organisations. Presence Webconference 30-31 May 2011 Two sessions were organised: 30 May @ 19.00 GMT and 31 May @ 04.00 GMT. In the first meeting 21 people attended, in the second 6 people. The conferences lasted about 1 hour and 15 minutes. 16 Countries were represented. About 55% represented JOTI, 40% JOTA-JOTI and 5% JOTA. Most participants in the conference (90%) are more than 5 years involved in JOTA-JOTI on national level, 60% even more than 10 year. Feedback from the Conference The presentation JOTA-JOTI Vision 2015 (same as on 16 April in Geneva) was presented. The following findings. Technology part of the mission JOTA-JOTI Mission: Stimulating interest in technology is part of the JOTA-JOTI Mission. With activities like electronic kit building, radio fox hunting and geo caching this is already standard practise. A vote was held. Over 80% agreed with the inclusion of Stimulating Technology in the mission. JOTA-JOTI in one weekend The global policy is that JOTA-JOTI are a single activity in the same weekend. There were a few questions whether it should not be split events. A lively chat discussion followed. JOTI groups discover JOTA and participate next year in JOTA. Radio Amateurs become active in Scouting. Many Scouts (including Scout Linkers) became Radio Amateurs. Internet becomes also part of the Radio Amateur hobby (e.g. Echolink). There was consensus that we should focus on the synergies. JOTA-JOTI weekend 3rd weekend of October Zakran requested to move the date of the event. Scouting in Malaysia is part of the school system and end of October is the final examination period. To increase participation the event should be moved. The date of the event had just been discussed on 16 April 2011 in the World JOTA-JOTI Preparations meeting. Conclusion was that we cannot move the event. Important reason is that Radio Amateurs organize Radio Contests in fixed weekends. After many decades the JOTA-JOTI weekend is now (almost) free from radio contests. The date will not be moved, because in such global event there will always be a country for which the date is less convenient. Implementation speed Vision 2015 Some found 2015 too far away: Internet is moving much faster, look at development of Facebook and Twitter. Practice over the past decade has shown that as a JOTA-JOTI organization we have not been very successful in moving quickly forward. One of the reasons is that we depend on volunteers to develop our software applications. Vision 2015 does not mean we have to complete in 5 years. If we can do it faster, we will certainly do.

Facebook Participants were negative about the use of Facebook, due to privacy concerns. The JOTA-JOTI Logo Vote should not have been held on Facebook. Use of Facebook should be limited to marketing of the event. Poll Results Results of the polls held during the 2 conferences. Not everyone was able to vote. The poll results provide nevertheless good insight in the opinion of those participating.
