SNAPSHOT

Photographer Mark Peters, who lives in eastern Washington, first spotted this bobcat in profile when driving around the National Bison Range north of Missoula in search of wildlife. “Then, after I parked, he was so well camouflaged I couldn’t see him until I got out my binoculars and scanned the tall grass for a while,” says Peters, who visits Montana regularly to visit family and photograph wildlife. Seeing the bobcat framed by the colorful fall foliage, Peters knew he had a potentially great photograph. “But I was able to shoot only two frames before he took off. Fortunately, they both turned out pretty good, with the focus right on his face.” n 6 | SEPTEMBER-OCTOBER 2020 | FWP.MT.GOV/MTOUTDOORS
