Airs 7pm Thursday, July 5 Also 7/8 10am In 1955 Elser made his first trip out West. The young man from Ohio took his love of the outdoors and turned it into a career. After arriving in Montana, the previous generation’s outfitters taught him the art of packing and how to work with horses and mules. More than just practical skills, they taught him a wilderness ethic. After 50 years in the business, Elser has led more than 700 trips and guided thousands of guests through the Bob Marshall Wilderness in western Montana. Now in his late 70s, Elser is making fewer trips into the Bob, so it’s time to share some of his experiences and the history he learned in the backcountry. Breaking Big: Jason Aldean Airs 7:30pm Friday, July 6 Also 7/8 9am
Jason Aldean’s appeal to everyday small-town Americans catapulted him to country music superstardom, but that success didn’t come overnight. He faced setback after setback before securing a record deal and releasing a string of hits. Aldean was onstage when shots rang out and dozens were killed at a Las Vegas music festival in October 2017. He tells Breaking Big host Carlos Watson that the tragedy reminded him that life is short, success is a gift, and the best thing he can do is keep performing and giving his fans the shows they deserve.

East of Eden Airs 8pm Saturday, July 7 Also 7/8 1pm
In this gripping drama, based on the Steinbeck novel of the same name, Cal Trask is a particularly unhappy young man. He sees himself as the black sheep of the family and is always competing with his brother Aron, who seems to be perfect in almost every way. Aron is also their father’s favorite and Cal desperately wants his father’s love and affection. It’s the period leading up to America’s entry into World War I and these are tumultuous times. After his father loses most of his fortune trying to ship refrigerated lettuce to New York, Cal decides to speculate on a crop of beans and makes a small fortune but he soon realizes that he can’t buy his father’s love. Cal’s discovery that his mother is alive—he and Aron were told that she had died—and that she is a madam leads to a final, tragic result for all three of the Trask men.

Hidden Fire: The Great Butte Explosion
Airs 10am Sunday, July 15
This program examines the 1895 incident and the grief and outrage that followed, eventually leading to the notorious murder of one of the city’s most respected citizens. It was the first of many disasters that would haunt the mining city’s history, and it destroyed a large section of the warehouse district and propelled wreckage as far away as Rocker, four miles to the west. The explosion, caused by a hidden cache of illegally-stored explosives, decimated the young Butte Fire Department, one of the first professional departments in Montana.

P. Allen Smith’s Garden Home Airs Mondays and Fridays 9am & 3pm and Saturdays 10am MontanaPBS Create Host and lifestyle expert P. Allen Smith is back for an all new season of P. Allen Smith’s Garden Home. In season 17, P. Allen visits Texas, where everything is bigger, including the innovations of its farmers. Then, he travels to Nashville to showcase the next generation in vertical gardening, and gets a taste of some mid-western flavor as he hits St. Louis’s thriving food scene. Throughout the series, P. Allen also shares some of his shortcuts for living a natural and healthy lifestyle, including transforming one’s living space into a better sensory experience. P. Allen’s mission is to inspire and connect with people and families. He lives by his guiding principles, believing that stewardship begins with the example we demonstrate each day, and with a strong mind-body connection.
