Race for the U.S. Senate MontanaPBS Debate Night, Fall 2020 10/2 11AM, 10/3 4PM, 10/5 3AM WORLD  10/3 12am, 10/4 7pm

Among several political races this fall, Montana voters will select a candidate to fill one of two senate seats for the next 6-year term. Governor Steve Bullock challenges the incumbent, Senator Steve Daines. MontanaPBS gives the candidates a platform to debate the issues in a live event on Monday, September 28.

Race for Governor MontanaPBS Debate Night, Fall 2020 OCTOBER 6  7PM  Also 10/9 11am, 10/10 4pm, 10/12 3am WORLD  10/10 12am, 10/11 7pm

With no incumbent available to serve, the Montana Governor’s Office is up for grabs this fall; Montana will have a new Governor after the 2020 election. Voters will face an important decision regarding the state’s direction for the next four years. Citizens have two familiar names campaigning for the state’s top job. Recent polls are forecasting a close race. With the Coronavirus pandemic forcing limited campaigning, this debate is more important than ever. Republican U.S. Representative Greg Gianforte and Democratic Lieutenant Governor Mike Cooney debate the issues live from the MontanaPBS studio in Missoula. The format features an open discussion period facilitating the exchange of ideas and policies from the candidates. This debate cuts through the rhetoric, the advertising and the noise with the two candidates in the same room discussing the state’s most important issues. Broadcast live on Tuesday, October 6, and recorded for later re-broadcast, MontanaPBS gives both candidates a platform to debate the issues. John Twiggs and Anna Rau host.

Republican Senator Steve Daines and Democrat Governor Steve Bullock are locked in a tight battle for a Senate seat that could ultimately decide which party controls the Chamber in January. With record-breaking money pouring in, ads saturating the airwaves and the pandemic limiting campaign appearances, MontanaPBS takes a closer look at the candidates’ respective records. Is Senator Daines a champion of public land, as he claims in his ads? Is Bullock the pro-gun Democrat he claims to be? Both candidates field direct questions and get the chance to counter the most inflammatory ads and the toughest critics in this half-hour profile.

With COVID limiting in-person campaign events, State Auditor Matt Rosendale (R) and former legislator Kathleen Williams (D) get creative to reach voters as they try to become Montana’s next representative in the U.S. House. Both candidates lost the last time they ran for federal office two years ago — Rosendale lost his bid to become Montana’s senator to incumbent Jon Tester, and Williams lost the House race to Greg Gianforte in 2018. Williams taps technology to convince Montanans to send a woman to Congress for the first time in nearly 80 years. Rosendale welcomes face-to-face campaign opportunities, including an event with business leaders in Helena and a biker bash in Billings, as he hopes Montanans elect a Republican to the House, continuing a quarter-century trend.

Buster, Arthur and Francine in Arthur and the Haunted Treehouse

Arthur and the Haunted Tree House WEDNESDAYS, OCTOBER 14 AND 21  4:30PM FRIDAY, OCTOBER 30  4:30PM MTPBS–KIDS  10/16, 10/28 1pm; 10/20 2:30pm; 10/24 8:30am; 10/30, 10/31 & 11/1 9pm

This Halloween is sure to be the spookiest ever for Arthur and his friends. While trick-or-treating, Francine meets an elderly woman with a very mysterious past, while Binky finds himself at Mr. Ratburn’s amazing haunted house (that’s scarier than math class!). And as for Arthur, Buster, and Ladonna? Their tree house sleepover seems to be haunted! But, by what?

Travel with Chef Howard on a culinary tour across the changing American South in this six-part series. Howard digs into the lesser-known roots of Southern food, cooking and living, and strives to understand her neighbors in the contemporary South, one dish at a time. Vivian is in search of the dishes that unite us all — dumplings, hand pies, porridge and more — but which are expressed in delightfully different ways across cultures. Along the way, she meets new friends and teachers, and as she says, discovers “how breaking bread and sharing a meal can create a comfortable place to have meaningful, memorable conversations.”
