Bard in the Backcountry Airs 8pm Monday, May 11 Also airs 5/13 1am; 5/17 10am This new MontanaPBS program chronicles a summer with “Montana Shakespeare in the Parks,” a professional theater company based in Bozeman, Montana. Viewers get a behind-the-scenes look at the ten actors on tour as they cover over sixty-five hundred miles to perform Shakespeare in the rural towns of this vast region. Along the way they encounter an array of characters, many of whom have been watching Shakespeare every summer for over forty years. We learn about the teamwork required to deliver a performance every evening in a new town and how the actors are also their own drivers, roadies, makeup artists, and set builders. Bard in the Backcountry reveals the mutual impact the tour has on the lives of these young actors and the people who put in the effort to bring Shakespeare to town. This journey provides a glimpse of the relevance that classic Shakespearean theater still holds in the lives of everyday people across the region. Nazi Attack on America

Long before 9/11, a far deadlier, littleknown attack from the ocean depths struck our shores, lasting three-and-a-half years and claiming 5,000 lives. Now, famed undersea explorer Bob Ballard, discoverer of the Titanic, investigates the wreck of one of the attack craft, a German submarine that lies at the bottom of the gulf just a few miles off New Orleans. U-166 was part of Operation Drumbeat, a highly successful U-boat operation that caught East Coast cities and shipping almost completely unprepared. With state-of-the-art survey gear, Ballard probes the wreck and explores a dramatic mystery in the official story of the sub’s sinking.

In every animal’s life, there comes a time when it must stand on its own two feet, so to speak, and face the world alone. For a few, this happens just moments after birth, with no life lessons from parents to help them, no time to hone their survival skills. Others have the advantage of home schooling under the watchful eye of a mentor or family member. But growing up is never easy, and finding food, avoiding predators and making friends does not always come naturally. These are the trials and tribulations of young animals all over the world as they prepare to leave home.

It is then that Charlie learns that his estranged father died and left him from his last will and testament a huge bed of roses and the car while the remainder will of $3 million goes into a trust fund to be distributed to someone. Charlie seemed pretty angry by this and decides to look into this matter. Thomas & Friends: The Adventure Begins Airs 2pm Monday, May 11 Many years ago on the North Western Railway, Gordon, the largest engine on the Island of Sodor is unhappy about having to pull goods trains and tells Edward one morning that he won’t have to pull them for much longer since Sir Topham Hatt has brought another engine. Later, Gordon becomes stuck at the foot of the steep hill on the main line; with no other engines available, Edward is sent and helps Gordon up the hill pushing the train from behind.

Parental Guidelines TV–Y All children TV–Y7 Children age 7 and over TV–G General audience TV–PG Parental guidance suggested:

–V     violence

–S     some sexual situations

–L     infrequent coarse language

–D     suggestive sexual dialogue

The other engine turns out to be Thomas, the new tank engine Sir Topham Hatt ordered. Sir Topham Hatt arrives, and after meeting Thomas tells Edward to teach him how to work in the yard. Initially Thomas manages to occasionally get in the way, and sometimes causes minor accidents, which Gordon and James seem to sometimes find funny. Thomas is sent to the Steamworks at Crovan’s Gate where he is repainted blue and given the number 1. The following day, Thomas takes longer to start than usual and arrives at Knapford with Gordon’s coaches later than usual. The next morning, Henry isn’t able to leave Tidmouth Sheds and Thomas is instead asked to pull his train. Unfortunately Thomas starts too soon and leaves the coaches behind, much to the dismay of Sir Topham Hatt.

Drum Brothers Airs 7pm Thursday, May 21

Also airs 5/23 9:47pm; 5/25 2am The Drum Brothers feature an energetic mix of ethnic and contemporary world music. West African djembe and doun-doun drums, Australian didgeridoo, saxaphone and flute, guitar, and hand percussion create polyrhythmic dance grooves that blend seamlessly with their authentic vocals. Four talented multi-instrumentalists comprise this one of a kind Missoula group. Matthew Marsolek has studied East Indian and West African music for the past 18 years with a variety of teachers, including Mukesh Desai from India and Abdoul Doumbia from Mali, West Africa. Matthew has experience and training in jazz, classical, and Hindustani vocal technique and is also an accomplished jazz and classical guitarist. His brother, Michael Marsolek, has a passion for the didgeridoo and Native American flute and is a long time singer. Michael has worked at Montana Public Radio since 1989 and has been program director for the network since 2001. Lawrence Duncan lives and works as a musician with his partner Mary Werner a few blocks from downtown Missoula. He is employed as a Music Thanatologist by Hospice of Missoula, and as a performer and workshop co-facilitator with Drum Brothers World Music/Rhythm ensemble based in Arlee, Montana. Colin Ruggiero plays percussion as well as guitar and his studies have taken him to nearly every country in Latin America including Cuba to study Rumba and 6 months studying traditional folkloric guitar technique in Mexico. Colin is also a documentary filmmaker, credited with a variety of award winning films for both broadcast and independent release.
