Poldark: Season 2 Airs 7pm Sunday, September 25 Also 9/27 3am
Neither pestilence, starvation, nor betrayal can stop Ross Poldark from fighting for justice in his native Cornwall. Aidan Turner (The Hobbit) returns as the ex-officer, class warrior, lover, and mining entrepreneur, called by The New York Times “the noblest, hottest, most down-to-earth hero.” Also back is co-star Eleanor Tomlinson (Death Comes to Pemberley), playing Demelza, the miner’s daughter who is Ross’ equal in passion, wit, and daring—which is, of course, why they marry. The returning cast includes Heida Reed (One Day) as Ross’ first love, Elizabeth, who broke his heart by marrying his duplicitous cousin Francis, played with intriguing ambiguity by Kyle Soller (Anna Karenina). Also back are Jack Farthing (Poirot) as George Warleggan, the arch-villain who would rather see Ross dead, a situation he does his best to arrange; along with Philip Davis (White Teeth) and Beatie Edney (Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day) as Ross’ exasperating servants, Jud and Prudie Paynter. New this season—or thrust into prominence from last—are Gabriella Wilde (Endless Love) as Caroline Penvenen, a flirtatious young heiress under the watchful eye of her rich uncle, Ray, played by John Nettles (Midsomer Murders); Luke Norris (Titanic) as earnest young doctor Dwight Enys, who only has time for his patients—and for Caroline; and Henry Garrett (Zero Dark Thirty) as Captain McNeil, Ross’ old comrade from the war, now hunting smugglers and an opportunity to woo a certain married lady.

The Choice 2016 Airs 8pm Tuesday, September 27 Also 9/29 1am, 4am
Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are two of the most polarizing presidential candidates in modern history. Frontline goes behind the headlines Trump and Clinton have generated to investigate what has shaped these two candidates, where they came from, how they lead and why they want to take on one of the most difficult jobs imaginable. This two-hour special is an interwoven investigative biography of Clinton and Trump that draws on dozens of interviews from those who know the candidates best—friends and family, advisors and adversaries—as well as authors, journalists, and political insiders. What emerges is a deeply reported narrative arc of both candidates’ lives, side by side, with trustworthy journalism and powerful new insights at a moment when voters are being bombarded with conflicting partisan stories about each candidate. “Both Clinton and Trump have been public figures for most of their lives—in fact, they’ve been active in public life on television for decades,” says Kirk. “But we’ve undertaken the most ambitious television biographies of these candidates ever created, going beyond the headlines they’ve generated and the personas they’ve created to explore what has made them who they are as people and as politicians.”

History of Glacier National Park Airs 7pm Thursday, September 29 This documentary takes viewer on a vivid journey through the pages of history to revealing the natural forces that created the park’s majestic landscape. Learn Glacier’s cultural and economic history and how human impact may affect the future of this park as its glaciers quickly vanish. Glacier was established as a national park on May 11, 1910, America’s 10th national park. Early newspapers touted its alpine scenery and numerus glaciers as reasons to visit the park. The great Northern Railway further enticed visitors with new hotels, chalets, and horse trails through the back country. They invited Americans to “see America first” and to use their railway to get to Glacier. But Americans’ love for the automobile was growing and with that growth roads through the park were in demand. The first road planned called for 15 switchbacks up the side of the mountain to get to and over Logan pass. But the final road, built in the late 1920’s, left a much smaller footprint on nature with only 1 switchback and was cut into the rock cliffs. Today the Going to the Sun Road is awarded one of the best mountain roads in America and is considered to be a blueprint for merging man with nature.

MontanaPBS offers television air time to the political candidates for five statewide races asking questions that deal with the important issues surrounding the office for which they are running. These short segments will broadcast throughout the day, during station breaks between programs, in September and October leading up to Election Day. MontanaPBS asked the candidates the following questions:
Attorney General 1. The AG’s office in Montana has recently taken part in various lawsuits asserting the US government has infringed on our state Constitution and citizens’ rights. How do you view the ever-present conflict between states’ rights and those of the federal government? 2. Do you believe state consumer protection laws need to be strengthened? Why or why not? 3. As a member of the state land board, how would you balance quality public access with development of natural resources?

Churchill’s Secret Airs 7pm Sunday, September 11 Also 9/13 3am
Michael Gambon plays the greatest statesman of the twentieth century in his most difficult hour: a debilitating stroke which he seeks to hide from the world. Based on a true incident in the life of Winston Churchill and directed by threetime Emmy® nominee Charles Sturridge, Churchill’s Secret co-stars Romola Garai, Lindsay Duncan, Bill Paterson, Matthew Macfadyen, Tara Fitzgerald, Rachel Stirling, Daisy Lewis, Alex Jennings, and a host of other brilliant actors. The movie-length drama is an adaptation of Jonathan Smith’s acclaimed 2015 novel, The Churchill Secret: KBO. “KBO” in the book’s title stands for Churchill’s favorite advice in the face of adversity: “keep buggering on.” The action opens in the summer of 1953. Churchill, age 78, is prime minister for the second time and as pugnacious as ever—until he is felled by a severe stroke while hosting a state dinner at 10 Downing Street. Lady Churchill manages to conceal the seriousness of her husband’s sudden incapacity while he is evaluated by his personal physician, Lord Moran, and later transported in worsening condition to his country home, Chartwell.

Last of the Summer Wine Airs 7pm Saturdays beginning September 10 When this series finally ceased production, it had 32 series, numerous Christmas specials and a 1988 prequel, First of the Summer Wine, with the whole canon being written by just one man: Roy Clarke. A whimsical comedy with a penchant for light philosophy and full-on slapstick, that first run followed the misadventures of three elderly friends tramping around the Yorkshire countryside (the town of Holmfirth and its surroundings). The upper, middle and lowers classes writ large: they were Former Royal Signals Sergeant and national gang leader Cyril Blamire; flat cap-wearing voice-of-reason Norman ‘Cleggy’ Clegg and scruffy hormone-riddled layabout Compo Simonite. In a world where men are just over-grown kids, the authority figures come in the shape of some of TV’s most formidable women. There’s the physically intimidating tea shop owner Ivy, but even she pales in comparison to Nora Batty. With her wrinkled stockings and hair curlers, she’s both a bogeyman figure curtailing the trio’s fun and became an unlikely lust object for Compo.

Defying the Nazis: The Sharps’ War Airs 8pm Tuesday, September 20 Also 9/22 1:30am, 4am
This new documentary was co-directed by Ken Burns and Artemis Joukowsky. The film tells the story of a little-known but important mission by an American minister and his wife to rescue refugees and dissidents in Europe before and after the start of World War II. The 90-minute film tells the story of Waitstill and Martha Sharp, a Unitarian minister and his wife from Wellesley, Massachusetts, who left their children behind in the care of their parish and boldly committed to numerous life-threatening missions in Europe. Over two dangerous years, they helped to save hundreds of imperiled political dissidents and Jewish refugees fleeing the Nazi occupation across Europe. Defying the Nazis is cinematically told through the letters and journals of the Sharps, with Tom Hanks as the voice of Waitstill and Marina Goldman as the voice of Martha. It features firsthand interviews with the now adult children whom the Sharps saved, as well as leading historians, authors and Holocaust scholars, including William Schulz, Deborah Dwork, Modecai Paldiel, Ghanda DiFiglia and Yehuda Bauer.

Patton Airs 8pm Saturday, September 24 Also 9/25 12:47pm
Biopic of the famed—many would say infamous—World War II General George S. Patton Jr. The story begins in North Africa with his appointment as the commanding general of II Corps soon after their devastating defeat at the hands of Rommel’s Afrika Korps at Kasserine Pass. After leading II Corps during the invasion of Sicily, Patton faced one of his several tests when, after slapping a hospitalized soldier suffering from battle fatigue, he is reprimanded and forced to publicly apologize. This and other faux pas ultimately leads to Patton being relieved and not being assigned to command again until several months after D-Day where he takes charge of the U.S. Third Army. Patton is portrayed as a prima donna and a hardened no-nonsense commander whose main objective is always to win—regardless of the cost which in these circumstances was mostly in the form of human lives.

Airs 7am Sundays, 7:30am Monday–Saturday, 3:30pm Monday–Friday Fred, a house cat, dreams of exploring the great outdoors. In each episode, once his family leaves for the day, Fred transforms into Nature Cat, “backyard explorer extraordinaire.” Nature Cat can’t wait to get outside for a day of backyard nature excursions and bravery, but there’s one problem: He’s still a house cat with no instincts for nature. Like many of today’s kids, Nature Cat is eager and enthusiastic about outside activities, but is at times intimidated by them. With the help of his animal friends, Nature Cat embarks on action-packed adventures that include exciting missions full of nature investigation, “aha” discovery moments and humor, all while inspiring children to go outside and “play the show.”
