Wylie & The Wild West Airs 7pm Thursday, November 17 Also 11/19 10pm; 11/21 3am
Horseman, singer, songwriter, and world famous Yahoo!® yodeler Wylie Gustafson brings his Big Sky spirit straight from the empty sprawl of northern Montana to the stage of 11th & Grant with Eric Funk. Wylie & The Wild West showcase their unique rural perspective and the essence of the 4th generation Montana rancher. Wylie is a real life cowboy on northern Montana’s Hi-Line where he makes his home and finds inspiration for his art. With over twenty albums to his credit, he’s been delighting audiences around the world with his original music, which includes elements of cowboy, traditional country, western swing, folk and yodeling. Since 1989, the Wylie & the Wild West has become internationally known for their captivating presentation of original and traditional music of America and its colorful west. The group got its start on Ronnie Mack’s Barn Dance at the Palomino Club in North Hollywood, California, developing their sound alongside artists such as Dale Watson, Lucinda Williams, Dwight Yoakam, Rosie Flores and Dave Alvin. Wylie & The Wild West features lead singer & guitarist Wylie Gustafson, Clayton Parsons on guitar, Greg Campbell on bass, and Tim Lashley on drums. Despite his successful career as one of America’s most recognized and unique entertainers, Wylie still gets up everyday and tends to the livestock on his quarter horse ranch near Conrad, Montana. It grounds him and is the backbone of his art.

History of Glacier National Park: Crown of the Continent Airs 7pm Wednesday, November 30 This is a vivid journey, through the pages of history, revealing the natural forces that created the park’s majestic landscape. By also exploring its cultural and economic history, the human impact is observed, including what the future might hold for this park as its glaciers quickly vanish. Glacier was established as a national park on May 11, 1910, America’s 10th national park. Early newspapers touted its alpine scenery and numerous glaciers as reasons to visit the park. The great Northern Railway enticed visitors with new hotels, chalets, and horse trails through the back country. They invited American’s to “See America First” and to use their railway to get to Glacier. But Americans love for the automobile was growing and with that growth roads through the park were in demand. The first road that was planned called for 15 switchbacks up the side of the mountain to get to and over Logan pass. The final road, built in the late 1920s, left a much smaller footprint on nature with only 1 switchback and was cut into the rock cliffs. Today, the Going to the Sun Road is awarded one of the best mountain roads in America and is considered to be a blueprint for merging man with nature.

AMERICAN EXPERIENCE
Battle of Chosin Airs 8pm Tuesday, November 1 Also 11/3 1am, 4am
On Thanksgiving Day 1950, American-led United Nations troops were on the march in North Korea. U.S. Marine and Air Force pilots distributed holiday meals, even to those on the front lines. Hopes were high that everyone would be home by Christmas. But soon after that peaceful celebration, American military leaders, including General Douglas MacArthur, were caught off guard by the entrance of the People’s Republic of China, led by Mao Zedong, into the fivemonth-old Korean War. Twelve thousand men of the First Marine Division, along with a few thousand Army soldiers, suddenly found themselves surrounded, outnumbered and at risk of annihilation at the Chosin Reservoir, high in the mountains of North Korea. The two-week battle that followed, fought in brutally cold temperatures, is one of the most celebrated in Marine Corps annals and helped set the course of American foreign policy in the Cold War and beyond. Incorporating interviews with more than 20 veterans of the campaign, The Battle of Chosin recounts this epic conflict through the heroic stories of the men who fought it.

Rose (Imelda Staunton) in “Gypsy” G R E AT P E R F O R M A N C E S
Gypsy Airs 8pm Friday, November 11 Also 11/14 2am
Jonathan Kent’s award-winning production of the classic musical Gypsy was a record-breaking sellout during its acclaimed London run. The first London production to be seen for 40 years, the musical opened at England’s Chichester Festival Theatre before moving to the West End’s Savoy Theatre. This critically acclaimed West End production features Imelda Staunton as Rose, as well as acclaimed turns by Lara Pulver as Louise and Peter Davison as Herbie. Critics were unanimous in their praise of Staunton and the production. “Every facet of the character is caught by Imelda Staunton who gives one of the greatest performances I’ve ever seen in musical theatre,” raved The Guardian. And The Times enthused, “If you like musical theatre, I urge you to see this stunning revival of one of the greatest Broadway musicals. If you don’t like musical theatre, see it anyway.” Gypsy is considered by many to be one of Broadway’s all-time triumphs. It tells the story of ambitious showbiz mother Rose, who treks across the country with her daughters Baby June and Louise in search of success with their homespun vaudeville act. As times change, Rose is forced to accept the demise of vaudeville and the rise of burlesque, as well as her daughters’ quest for autonomy.

Speed Airs 8pm Saturday, November 19 Also 11/20 1pm
In a downtown highrise building in L.A., a psychopathic bomber and extortionist rigs an elevator full of people to plummet into the basement if his $3-million demand is not met. When SWAT Officers Jack Traven & Harry Temple foil the bomber’s plan and rescue the hostages, the bomber retaliates. First he blows up a city bus, then contacts Traven to warn him that a second bus has a bomb attached to it. Once that bus hits 50mph, the bomb is armed. If it drops below 50, it will explode. The bomber also warns Jack that if any attempt at rescue is made, the bomb will also explode. Jack races down the freeway and manages to board the bus. When an accident injures the driver, young bus passenger Annie is forced to take over behind the wheel and keep the bus running at 50 in order to stay alive. Will Jack and his fellow SWAT members be able to stop the psychopathic bomber—or will the passengers be killed when the bus runs out of gas?

Downton Abbey Begins 6:43am Thursday, November 24 and ending 10pm Friday, November 25 Check A-Z listing for episode times, p. 26
Settle in for a binge-worthy Thanksgiving marathon of the top PBS drama of all time, the most popular series in Masterpiece’s 45-year history and one of the most-watched dramas on American television. Seasons 4, 5 and 6 will air from beginning to end.
Season 4
Six months after Downton Abbey’s great tragedy, Mary is mired in grief and the estate is engulfed in death taxes. As the family struggles to lift their financial and emotional woes, clashes arise, sparks fly, and it is up to the older generation to bring Mary back to life, and Robert to his senses—no easy task in either respect.
Season 5
Rejoin the Crawley family for a fifth season of intimately interlaced stories centered on the English country estate.
Season 6
The year is 1925, and momentous change threatens the great house, its owners, and servants. Past scandals are also looming. The beloved ensemble is back for their farewell performance, closing the book on a television legend. COURTESY OF NICK BRIGGS/CARNIVAL FILM & TELEVISION LIMITED 2015 FOR MASTERPIECE

Alone in the Wilderness Airs 7pm Tuesday, November 29 Documentary tells the story of Dick Proenneke who, in the late 1960s, built his own cabin in the wilderness at the base of the Aleutian Peninsula, in what is now Lake Clark National Park. Using color footage he shot himself, Proenneke traces how he came to this remote area, selected a homestead site and built his log cabin completely by himself. The documentary covers his first year in-country, showing his day-to-day activities and the passing of the seasons as he sought to scratch out a living alone in the wilderness.

LEAVE YOUR LEGACY Increase your impact with the Montana Endowment Tax Credit The Montana Endowment Tax Credit (METC) is a special benefit for Montana taxpayers who make a planned gift to a charitable endowment in Montana. Montana PBS donors who qualify for the METC reduce their income tax liability, enabling them to consider larger gifts that leave a lasting impact. With the METC, donors receive a tax credit of 40 percent of the value of the gift, up to $10,000, that will be deducted from their income tax liability. Planned gifts that qualify for the METC include: • Charitable Gift Annuity • Charitable Remainder Trust • Paid-up life insurance policy • Retained life estate MontanaPBS is proud to be in partnership with the Montana State University Alumni Foundation to assist in fulfilling our planned giving needs. Please visit msuaf.org/plannedgiving to learn more or contact Crystal Beaty, Senior Director of Development for MontanaPBS at 406-994-6221 or via email at crystal@montanapbs.org.
