Clearing the Smoke: The Science Of Cannabis Airs 9pm Tuesday, June 6 Also 6/8 3am; 6/11 10am
Montana Lawmakers are currently grappling with the state’s controversial Medical Marijuana law. While some are arguing for tighter restrictions, others are pushing for a full repeal of the voter-passed initiative. Montana PBS’s new documentary “Clearing the Smoke: The Science of Cannabis” addresses an important area missing in the rhetoric and controversy: the science behind Medical Marijuana. The hour-long documentary reveals how the plant’s chemical compounds act on the brain and the body to potentially treat a myriad of difficult conditions and diseases. Personal stories of relief from pain, nausea and epileptic seizures frame a scientific discussion of both the therapeutic potential and the very real side effects of cannabis as a medicine. The documentary details the government restrictions and financial difficulties of doing research on the plant, but it also highlights the legitimate work being done by scientists across the nation, including one South Carolina researcher who is uncovering its potential to treat auto-immune diseases and certain types of cancer. Interviews include Dr. Igor Grant, Director of the Center for Medicinal Cannabis Research and Dr. Eric Voth, longtime medical marijuana critic and Drug Policy Advisor to Presidents Reagan, Bush Senior, Clinton and Bush Junior.

A day for celebrating Hal and his favorite chew toy Mr. Chewinsky’s 3-year anniversary as dog and toy has gone from joyous fun to total sadness as Nature Cat has made a terrible mistake! Nature Cat accidentally dropped Mr. Chewinsky down the storm drain, and now he is floating on the storm water, working his way through the drain system to the river and out to the ocean! Oh no! As the gang goes to find and save Mr. Chewinsky, they learn how all waterways are connected, and also meet up with a new special friend named Nature Dog, who helps them navigate the oceans. Will they find Mr. Chewinsky? Will Hal be able to celebrate his anniversary!? And who is Nature Dog?!

Presented by historian Dr. Suzannah Lipscomb, the four-part series Hidden Killers utilizes scientific experiments, expert guidance and thorough research to explore the unseen household perils of years gone by.
Hidden Killers Airs 7pm & 8pm Tuesdays, June 6 & 13 Almost everything around us—from the food we eat to the furniture we sit on—has been meticulously designed and tested to ensure its safety. However, in Victorian and Edwardian times, the early adopters of new products, trends, and technologies were history’s unintentional “guinea pigs”—pioneering the untried aspects of domestic life we take for granted today. Presented by historian Dr. Suzannah Lipscomb (Henry and Anne: The Lovers Who Changed History; Hidden Killers of the Tudor Home), the four-part series Hidden Killers utilizes scientific experiments, expert guidance and thorough research to explore the unseen household perils of yesteryear.
