Spring Break Pack Your Flip Flops and Head Texas Brings Weekly to Margaritaville Lake Resort, Performers, Special Guests Gas Prices L a k e C o n r o e | H o u s t o n And TexasFun for Your Spring Break Escape themed To Market
(March 8, 2021) - Texas gas prices have risen 7.7 cents per gallon in the past week, a v e r a g i n g $ 2 . 5 0 / g t o d a y, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 13,114 stations in Texas. Gas prices in Texas are 34.7 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand 41.3 cents per gallon higher than a year ago. According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Texas is priced at $1.95/g today while the most expensive is $3.19/g, a difference of $1.24/g. The lowest price in the state today is $1.95/g while the highest is $3.19/g, a difference of $1.24/g. The national average price of gasoline has risen 3.4 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $2.77/g today. The national average is up 29.8 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 41.1 cents per gallon higher than a year ago. Neighboring areas and their current gas prices: Midland Odessa- $2.73/g, up 9.7 cents per gallon from last week's $2.63/g. San Antonio- $2.41/g, up 6.8 cents per gallon from last week's $2.34/g. Austin- $2.44/g, up 8.0 cents per gallon from last week's $2.36/g. "OPEC surprised oil markets last week by extending oil production cuts for another month, ignoring the resurgence in global demand as economies recover from COVID-19. Markets responded by pushing oil prices up some 12%. As a result, motorists should prepare for further gas price increases in the weeks and potentially months ahead, with a $3 per gallon national average potentially less than a month away," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy. "At the start of this year, it was somewhat outlandish to predict a $3 per gallon national average for the summer driving season, but thanks to the speed of recovery from the pandemic pushing demand higher and OPEC's reluctance to raise oil production, we're on the cusp of making that a reality. It's extremely frustrating as a consumer to feel helpless as prices soar and as millions remain unemployed, so the only advice I can offer consumers is prepare for further increases, and to mitigate rising prices, shop around for the low prices every time you need to refuel. I'm hopeful OPEC will see the error in their ways at next month's meeting, but with demand exceeding supply, the longer the imbalance continues, the longer it will take for any rise in oil production to offset it." GasBuddy is the authoritative voice for gas prices and the only source for stationlevel data spanning nearly two decades. Unlike AAA's once daily survey covering credit card transactions at 100,000 stations and the Lundberg Survey, updated once every two weeks based on 7,000 gas stations, GasBuddy's survey updates 288 times every day from the most diverse list of sources covering nearly 150,000 stations nationwide, the most comprehensive and up-to-date in the country. Suggestions for Mindful Eating: Food for Thought Diana Anderson

If you're anything like me, you may have recently experienced dough envy while scrolling through an endless stream of beautiful, homemade bread on social media. But sourdough bread–making can be pretty daunting, so start with focaccia, an easier, dip-your-toes-inthe-pool friendly bread. Unlike sourdough, which requires that you feed a hungry little starter g r e m l i n e v e r y d a y, focaccia is mostly hands off. It also doesn’t require any special equipment besides a digital scale. Made with a highhydration (80% in this case) dough, it comes together quickly in a bowl and doesn’t need to be kneaded. If you don’t have a food scale it is an inexpensive wonderful edition to your kitchen tools. It is especially good for baking. While a cup of flour may vary depending

bowl and whisk together until homogenous. Add water and stir with wooden spoon until no dry flour remains, about 2 minutes. Add 20 grams (0.7 ounces; 1 1/2 tablespoons) olive oil and stir to incorporate, using hands if necessary, to work oil into dough. Cover with plastic wrap, then let rest at room temperature for 1 hour. 2. Remove plastic wrap (but don't discard), and, using a lightly greased bowl scraper, fold dough over itself by lifting and folding edge of dough toward middle. Turn bowl 45 degrees and fold dough again; repeat turning and folding motion 4 more times (total of 6 folds). Cover tightly with reserved plastic wrap and let rest for 15 minutes. 3. Repeat this entire folding process once more. Cover bowl tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 18 hours or up to 3 days. Directions 4. 1. B a k i n g t h e F o r t h e Focaccia: Remove dough Dough: Combine flour, from refrigerator and let sit salt, and yeast in large at room temperature for 10
minutes. Sprinkle the top of the dough lightly with flour, then transfer it to a lightly floured work surface. Shape it by holding it with wellfloured hands and tucking the dough underneath itself, rotating it until it forms a tight ball. 5. Pour 27 grams (1 ounce; 2 tablespoons) olive oil into 10- or 12inch cast iron skillet and spread over entire inner surface (including rim) with your hands. Transfer dough to pan, turn to coat in oil, position seam-sidedown, and spread gently with your hands to mostly fill the pan (don't worry if dough doesn't fully stretch to edges). Cover tightly with plastic wrap and let rise at room temperature until dough is very soft and puffy and nearly doubled in volume, 1 1/2 to 2 hours. 6. One hour before baking, adjust oven rack to lower-middle position. Place baking stone or Baking Steel on it and preheat oven to 500°F (260°C). Using your fingertips, gently press and stretch dough to evenly fill
all corners of the pan. Lift up one edge of the dough to let air bubbles underneath escape and repeat, moving around the dough until there are no large air bubbles left underneath and the dough is evenly spread around the pan. Using fingertips, gently press on surface of dough to create small dimples. Drizzle remaining 20 grams (0.7 ounces; 1 1/2 tablespoons) olive oil over top of dough, then sprinkle with coarse sea salt. 7. Transfer skillet to oven, positioning it on top of baking stone, and bake, rotating pan halfway through baking, until top is golden brown and bottom is golden brown and crisp when you lift it with a thin spatula, 25 to 30 minutes. Let focaccia cool in skillet for 5 minutes, then use a thin spatula to transfer focaccia to wire rack set inside a rimmed baking sheet. Spoon or brush any olive oil left in the skillet over the focaccia and let cool for at least 10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm or at room temperature.

on how full or how well packed, the grams a recipe requires doesn’t. Most recipes use grams rather than ounces since it is more precise. You just pour the flour in the bowl until it reaches the number of grams required then press “tare” and it resets so you can then pour in the next ingredient until the amount stated is reached. The units can be reset to pounds, ml, or ounces. In order to give the focaccia a tender, open crumb with plenty of lift, you fold the dough multiple times before cold-proofing it in the refrigerator for up to three days. The folding process incorporates air into the dough for a more even crumb, while also strengthening its gluten network for better chew. The longer refrigerated proofing step produces complex flavor that a quicker, warmer proof won't. When ready to bake, the dough easily fills a cast iron pan (both a 10- or 12inch skillet will work for this recipe), with no real stretching required, thanks
to its high hydration. To let its flavor shine, dress the focaccia simply, with olive oil and coarse sea salt—although you can add other toppings if desired. After less than 30 minutes in a hot oven, you're rewarded with burnished, crisp, golden brown focaccia, ready to be devoured. Ingredients * 500 grams bread or all-purpose flour (17.5 ounces; about 3 1/4 cups), see note * 10 grams Diamond Crystal kosher salt (0.4 ounce; 2 1/2 teaspoons); for table salt, use about half as much by volume or the same weight * 4 grams instant dry yeast, such as SAF (0.1 ounce; 1/2 packet or 1 rounded teaspoon) * 400 grams room temperature water (14.1 ounces; 1 1/2 cups plus 3 tablespoons) * 68 grams extra-virgin olive oil (2.4 ounces; 5 tablespoons), divided

On Saint Paddy’s Day The IRISH HUMOR Flows And Is Infectious!!! Walden Happenings By Doc Fennessy The opinions expressed in this editorial do not necessarily reflect those of MCN.
[ PART ONE -THE IRISH ARE COMING]. MARCH 17TH Traditional St. Patrick’s Day! I am late! This article of a Three – Part – Series should have appeared in last week’s edition. This article is PART ONE of a Three Part Series: The Irish are Coming, The Irish are Here and The Irish Among Us. Ah, and sure it 'tis Saint Paddy's day again! A great and wonderful day for the Irish and the Mystique of their Charming Enchantress - The Emerald Isle. "English is a world language and we are lucky to have it, particularly as we [The Irish] have embroidered it with the tweedy fol-de-lols and porter stains which are unmistakably Irish and proud of it” {Myles nag Copaleen}. “Irishness is not primarily a question of birth or blood or language; it is a condition of being involved in the Irish situation, and usually being mauled by it." – {Conor Cruise O'Brian}. Every town on Saint Patrick's Day is as full as ever of "Irish characters," all created by each other. "The Irish are not in a conspiracy to cheat the world by false representations of the merits of their countrymen. No, sir; the Irish are a fair and truthful race of people; they never speak well of each other." – {Dr. Samuel Johnson}. An old Irishman was asked, "At your ripe old age, which would you prefer to get - Parkinson's or Alzheimer's?" The Irishman replied, "Bejesus, definitely Parkinson's! Better to spill half an ounce of whiskey than to forget
where you keep the bottle!" NOW, where DID I put that bottle??? Historians believe that Saint Patrick was probably born around A.D. 415. His true name was Maewyn Succat and he was born in either in Scotland or West Britain {presentday Wales}. When St. Patrick was 16-years old, he was captures by Celtic raisers and brought back to Ireland as a slave. He lived as a shepherd until he escaped six years later. It is said that he walked over 200 after he dreamed about a ship that would take him away from slavery in Ireland. St. Patrick was one on Ireland’s’ most famous inhabitants, but much of the story of his life r e m a i n s a m y s t e r y. Adding to the mystery are the numerous myths and exaggerations of his deeds. Although he did reach down from the rock he was standing on in Cashel, picked up a shamrock, and used the three leaves to explain the “Holy Trinity” – “God the Father, Son and Holy Ghost”. Thus, successfully converting most the Irish nation to Christianity. It is also known that St. Patrick was a man who truly loved Ireland and its people. It is a myth that St. Patrick banished all the snakes from Ireland. Ireland never had any snakes. This was a Metaphor used to describe the elimination of the Pagan religious practices. In the 1600’s, the people of Ireland wore shamrocks on their clothing to show their objections to English rule. The first St. Patrick’s Day post cards were made of dried shamrocks. Most families in Ireland observe St. Patrick’s Day by attending Catholic Church in the morning, parades in the afternoon and celebrating with feasting, drinking, joking, laughing, singing, dancing and brawling. Originally, Irish Bacon was used for the “Traditional
Meal,” but the early immigrants to American found Corned Beef more affordable. The St. Paddy’s Day Celebration in Dublin is attended by over one-million people. The first St. Patrick’s Day celebration and parade was held in Boston, in 1737 and hosted by The Charitable Irish Society of Boston. The largest St. Patrick’s parades in the U.S.A. are in New York, Boston and Chicago. Today, nearly 65 million people in North America can trace their ancestry to Ireland!!! Growing up in an Irish Catholic Family with grandparents on both sides coming to America as immigrants, and traveling extensively {6-times}, {once for five weeks}, in the “Emerald Isle” provided me with a love and in-depth love and understanding of the “Irish Mystique”. March 17th tis The Day Of The Irish, and I want you to try to fully enjoy the celebration with some knowledge of the Irish beforehand so you can “Tip-One-For Paddy!” Ireland is a joke factory if ever a country was one. A witticism of Galway today is a wise crack of Las Vegas in two or three years. The Irish is a hardy, rough and tough race of patriotic brawlers that will stand up alone in a crowd and speak out for what they believe in. This element of rugged independence in an Irishman's personality makeup is deeply ingrained in them as children during their traditional Irish family upbringing. In the world at large everything may be serious, but not hopeless, while in Ireland today everything may seem hopeless, but not serious. Humor is food for the soul and we can't live without it. To laugh is to love; to laugh is to understand; and to laugh is to forgive. That's why the Irish are so
friendly and happy as a race - because they can laugh at themselves and have people laugh at/or with them. In today's ridiculous and supersensitive world, who, other than the Irish can you make fun of publicly without being sued for discrimination or claims as being a bigot? If the Irish meet someone that hasn't smiled or had a laugh that day they give them one! There is no single Irish voice, author, musician, singer, poet, artist, literature, poetry or music that speaks for the Irish, but rather a rich variety of voices-that sing, sigh, mourn and whisper, or shout, rouse, cajole and tease about the land, the people, their lifestyle, their traditions and history. The extraordinary tonal, textural images of text and art [in its various form] complement each other in a passionate expression of the Irish experience. "The Irish live on a moderately agreeable, largely unspoiled island which has an impressive quota of legends and a romantic history long antedating the birth of Christ. On the whole, they are a people of attractive gifts. A charismatic race of genial humor and frequently ready wit, they
are, in the main, kindly, gentle, hospitable, patriotic, honest with a tremendous sense of loyalty for the underdog and magnanimous, with well-developed spiritual qualities nicely balanced by their noble toughness, hardiness and tenacity." – {Max Caulfield}. None of these qualities in itself is either remarkable or uniquely Irish. Yet together they appear to be mixed in such pleasing proportion that the Irish stand out as a strongly favored people. Ireland is like no other country in the world. It's a gem apart, something historic and holy that a man can set aside for his imagination. Irish in fact, seem to oscillate wildly between various extremes, struggling through century after century with this imaginative domination seeking synthesis between dream and reality, aspiration and experience, a shrewd knowledge of the world and a strange reluctance to cope with it, and tending always to find the balance notion an intellectual synthesis, but in the rhythm of a perpetual emotional oscillation. There are moments when the Irish, wherever they are, I think, see themselves as the friends of the friends
of God." – {Sean O'Faolain}. It seems that for these reasons as Sean O'Fallon had observed, the Irish tend to baffle people, the contrasts remain half the magic of Ireland and its people. The United States is a great tapestry of peoples comprising nearly all the races, nations and belief systems of the world. We live together united as Americans while at the same time keeping our separate ethnic identities. There is no other place like it in the world. "We do not mix and completely merge our ethnic heritages. Instead, we partially merge them, and at the same time keep important parts of them whole. The result is something unique called an American!" – {David M. Brownstone}. "No country in the world, in the history of the world, has endured the hemorrhage which this island has endured over a period of a few years for so many of its sons and daughters. The sons and daughters are scattered throughout the world and give this small island a family of millions upon millions ... in a sense, of them who visit Ireland come home!" – {John F. Kennedy).

My Five Cents...

Texas Independence Day is celebrated on March 2nd and commemorates the creation of the Republic of Texas in 1836 after our declaration of independence from Mexico. Sixty men signed the Texas Declaration of Independence including the legendary Sam Houston, who would go on to be president of the Republic of Texas, a US Senator after Texas joined the United States, and later the governor of Texas. His birthday also happens to

about mask requirements, capacity limits, and other safety measures in their establishments. If COVID19 hospitalizations rise above 15% of the hospital bed capacity in any of the state's 22 hospital regions, a county judge within that region may implement additional health safety strategies. These new orders go into effect next week on March 10. This all comes as the state is administering almost 1 million vaccines a week. By the end of March, the goal is for every senior who wants a vaccine to be able to get one. Additionally, teachers have been included in the group now eligible for the vaccine. 2. Data Privacy bill filed This week I filed SB 15, a bill dedicated to ensuring your private, personal information stays private. Over the interim, I found out that governmental entities are selling, disclosing, and allowing the resale of personal information, in particular the information attached to motor vehicle records and drivers licenses. That information includes your name, address, and driver's
Missing: Bipartisanship THE WOODLANDS, TX - During my time in Congress, I’ve found success working with Presidents of both parties. With President Obama, for example, I helped negotiate an end to the 40-year ban on selling crude oil overseas – a historic change that has helped make America energy independent. No matter your party, you have an obligation to find common ground where you can to improve the lives of everyday Americans. Unfortunately, after pledging “unity” the Biden Administration is the most partisan administration in modern history. And led by unpopular Speaker Nancy Pelosi, partisan Democrats in Congress are following his lead, quickly jamming through radical, dangerous bills and the Covid “stimulus” while gleefully rejecting any discussion of Republican ideas. Last year, Republicans and Democrats worked
license number. The bill I filed fixes that by restricting the disclosure of personal information to essential government agencies, and forbidding re-disclosure or resale of personal information to entities such as marketing and technology companies. This bill has been named as one of the Lt. Governor's priorities this session, and I'm hopeful it will be signed into law. 3. Texas Parks and Wildlife saves sea turtles from frigid waters Thousands of sea turtles were rescued from freezing waters by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and other organizations during the winter storm event last month. The Texas Game Wardens pulled at least 141 sea turtles out of the water and onto the decks of the PV Murchison in the Brownsville Ship Channel. The sea turtles become "cold stunned" in the water, meaning they become lethargic and unable to move into deeper water. This can result in stranding or drowning. The TPWD and other organizations transported the turtles to a proper facility to be cared
for until the water temperature warms and they can be safely returned back to the ocean. A big thanks to our game wardens and other officials for watching over our nautical friends! 4. Texas wins Governors Cup for ninth year in a row Site Selection Magazine announced that Texas won the Governor's Cup for the ninth year in a row, a new record. The Governor's Cup is awarded to states with top performance for job creation and capital investment. It's based on any new or expanded corporate facilities in the state. Texas has seen growth and continued investment from large businesses and industries despite the COVID-19 pandemic. Several large companies are moving their headquarters to the state and investing in new campuses and offices for that move. I'm proud to live in a state that attracts job creators, innovators, and e n t r e p r e n e u r s ; Te x a s continues to foster a business environment that empowers people to succeed. 5. TCEQ says nearly 12
million Texans were on a boil water notice due to winter storms Nearly 12 million Texans were put under a boil water notice during the winter storm last month due to water levels dropping dangerously low. That means roughly 1 in 3 Texans had no access to clean water. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality said approximately 590 public water systems in 141 counties were reporting disruptions in service, leaving Texans with no potable water after enduring days of freezing and below freezing temperatures. The water quality issues were related to a lack of electricity at water treatment plants, frozen and broken water lines, and residents dripping faucets to prevent pipes from bursting. This is just another facet of the crisis the winter storms threw us into. The legislature is working diligently to solve these problems and ensure our electric grid is reliable and can endure extreme weather events.
together with President Trump to pass five bipartisan bills, and we were able to provide over $3.5 trillion in targeted relief to help our nation recover. I hoped that that spirit of compromise and teamwork would continue in our most recent stimulus talks, but the Democrats decided to go it alone. Instead of focusing on our main priorities – crushing the virus and rebuilding our economy – they are wasting billions of dollars on unrelated, unnecessary projects. The fact is, only 9% of the $1.9 trillion in their package goes directly to defeating the virus. And despite labeling it as a “stimulus”, President Biden has refused to say just how many jobs it creates. Spoiler alert – not enough. It’s truly saddening that Democrats refused to work across the aisle with us on this package, because the American people need and deserve better. But the partisanship didn’t stop there. Every bill
that Democrats have brought to the floor for a vote so far has been irresponsible, and H.R. 1, the “For the Politicians Act,” gives D.C. politicians more control while taking power away from state and local governments. It also threatens our freedom of speech, removes important voter ID laws, legalizes ballot harvesting, increases vulnerability for foreign election interference, and weaponizes the FEC. They even want to allow 16-yearolds and felons behind bars to vote. They’ve also taken steps to impose far-left views about gender on every American with the so called “Equality Act”, legislation that makes extreme revisions to civil rights laws, undercuts protections for women, and guts safeguards for churches and religious organizations. Next, they pushed ineffective police reform that focuses on radical
policies, like defunding the police, while impeding the ability of good police officers to do their jobs e f f e c t i v e l y. B u t t h e American people know that we don’t need these far-left policies, we need meaningful changes that focus on increased training, a c c o u n t a b i l i t y, a n d transparency. A n d n o w, t h e y ’ r e purposely ignoring a drastic crisis at the border – that was caused by President Biden – for fear of upsetting their base. Here in Texas, we know what happens when border security is not a priority, and it’s us who will pay the price if Biden and his party continue down this dangerous path. 2020 was a tough year for us all, and Americans deserve thoughtful, bipartisan responses to address our many challenges, rebuild our economy, reopen our businesses and defeat Covid. We can’t do that unless we work together.
Governor Abbott Supports Bill Protecting Texans From Wrongful Social Media Censorship Governor Abbott Supports Bill Protecting Texans From Wrongful Social Media Censorship AUSTIN- Governor Greg Abbott today held a press conference in Tyler with Senator Bryan Hughes in support of Senate Bill 12 (SB 12). Authored by Senator Hughes, SB 12 prohibits social media companies from censoring Texans
based on the viewpoints they express. It would also allow Texans who are wrongfully de-platformed or restricted to file suit to allow them back on the site. “Social media sites have become our modern day public squares where information should be able to flow freely, but social media companies are now acting as judge and jury on
determining what viewpoints are valid,” said Governor Abbott. “America was built on freedom of speech and healthy public debate, and efforts to silence conservative viewpoints on social media are wrong and weaken public discourse. I thank Senator Hughes for offering SB 12 to help protect Texans from being wrongfully censored on control while taking power away from state a n d l o c a l g o v e r nments. It also threatens our freedom of speech, removes important voter ID laws, legalizes ballot harvesting, increases vulnerability for foreign election interference, and weaponizes the FEC. Politicians > People Our country is still fighting against the coronavirus. But instead of focusing on defeating the virus and getting Americans back to work, Democrats spent this week pushing a bill that
would take public dollars and use them to fund political campaigns. How’s that for priorities? H.R. 1, The “For the Politicians” act, gives D.C. politicians more
social media for voicing their political or religious viewpoints. With SB 12, Senator Hughes is taking a stand against Big Tech’s political censorship and protecting Texans’ right to freedom of expression. I look forward to working with Senator Hughes to sign this bill into law and protect free speech in Texas."
16-year-olds and felons behind bars to vote. This bill is so radical that even the liberal ACLU opposes it – that’s when you know democrats have gone too far. It’s clear that by passing this bill, Democrats are putting politicians before the people. - Congressman Brady

Devotional Funny Or Crushing - Dreams Will Come To You - #2 Spreading the Word
By Gail J. Box Gailbox@consolidated.net
There is no doubt, as we read The Bible, that our Father, God, speaks to us through dreams and/or visions. I have found that the dreams I remember the most are the ones He sends. It’s always uplifting or instructional or for something we may experience in the future. I’m reminded of one of the amazing events that happened to a man during the Twin Towers tragedy. There was a man
who lived very close to the Towers in New York. He was getting ready to go to work there in the towers on the morning of September 9th. As he stepped out of his apartment, he suddenly had a “check” in his spirit to go back inside and change his shoes. Those few minutes kept him from being caught in that horrible tragedy and from possibly losing his life. I believe that “check” came from God to save him. We could call it a dream/vision or a “knowing in his spirit,” but his life was definitely spared by the LORD! I t ’s n o t c l e a r exactly when these next scriptures will come about,
Drought by: Pastor Randy Weaver It seems that when we have been without rain for a long time we seem to appreciate it more. A drought is: 1: a period of dryness especially when prolonged; specifically : on e that causes extensive damage to crops or prevents their successful growth 2: a prolonged or chronic shortage or lack of something expected or desired. What is it that you have a shortage of? Did life not turn out as you planned? Is there something lacking that you expected or desired? Maybe there is a dryness that has been prolonged? People say if I just had more money all my
problems would be solved. If that were true all rich people would be happy. We know that’s not the case, many of them are experiencing a drought of happiness. Here’s what Jesus said: “He who is faithful in a very little [thing] is faithful also in much, and he who is dishonest and unjust in a very little [thing] is dishonest and unjust also in much. Therefore if you have not been faithful in the [case of] unrighteous mammon (deceitful riches, money, possessions), who will entrust to you the true riches?” (Luke 16:10-11; Amplified Bible).

but Joel says this and it is repeated by Peter in the New Testament: “It will come about after this that I will pour out My Spirit on all mankind; and your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, and your young men will see visions. Even on the male and female servants I will pour out My Spirit in those days. Joel 2: 28-29, and Acts 2:16-18…spoken by Peter. I want to speak of one vision which I found in a news article back in the 1980’s. And yes, I’ve never forgotten it. It was written about a test pilot on a mission to fly a brand
new super-sonic jet . He went up for the test and had decided to take the jet back down when he was “prompted” to glance over his right shoulder. As he did, he saw, out of the cockpit window, the most beautiful city he had ever seen. It seemed to be just floating in the air and was shining like gold. It had golden spires and towers , as well as beautiful minarets all at different levels. It resembled a huge castle. Everything on it was sparkling gold and glowing. The whole vision was hanging in the air on nothing. We c a n o n l y speculate on the interpretation, but I would guess
he had a vision of the “New Jerusalem” just waiting for the right time to come down and appear on top of Mount Zion to be the “city of the great King,” in New Jerusalem!” More and more, I think we’ll be hearing of visions like this as we draw closer to the coming of the Lord. In closing, I’ll mention my latest dream. Gil and I were holding hands and floating above the earth, way out in space, when I looked out to see a huge ball of water, floating quietly beside us. In the water was every kind of fish you could name. They were having a great time together. As I woke up, I
Maybe you don’t have a shortage of water or food… but you DO have a shortage of patience, maybe you’re in a “hope” drought. Maybe you’ve lost hope in the situation you find yourself in today. You may be saying, "I need more strength, more energy, or more time.” Whatever the greatest area of drought in your life is …Whatever it is that you’re experiencing a shortage of…God knows and understands. One thing that I must point out is that God will not impose his wisdom or peace or blessings on anyone. We must submit to the power and the authority of His Word. You may say, “I don’t know anything about the Bible.” Well, that may be your biggest drought. God’s desire is to take you out of your d r o u g h t . We m u s t understand that God will not force His will on anyone, nor will he bless
disobedience. Here’s a reprimand God gave to us in James: “Where do you think all these appalling wars and quarrels come from? Do you think they just happen? Think again. They come about because you want your own way, and fight for it deep inside yourselves. You lust for what you don't have and are willing to kill to get it. You want what isn't yours and will risk violence to get your hands on it. You wouldn't think of just asking God for it, would you? And why not? Because you know you'd be asking for what you have no right to. You're spoiled children, each wanting your own way. You're cheating on God. If all you want is your own way, flirting with the world every chance you get, you end up enemies of God and his way” (James 4:1-4; Message Bible). There is nothing like a good rain when you are in a
drought. Call on the Rainmaker. He has the solution to your drought.

I wish for you all to have happy or funny or creative dreams in the future, and forget about all the crushing ones. Throw them out in the trash. Avoiding Crash Landings B y C h e r y l C o n l e y, TWRC Wildlife Center It’s happened to most of us. We hear something hit a window and when we go outside to check it out, we find a little bird laying on the ground. The same thing happens with other shiny objects like chrome car bumpers, car mirrors, grills and gazing balls. Why do birds fly into these objects? There are a couple of reasons. The most likely explanation is that birds see the reflection of the sky or vegetation and thinking it’s real, try to fly into it. Another reason is that some species are territorial and aggressive and when they see their own reflection, they think it’s a rival and they try to attack it. This happens more frequently during mating season. It’s estimated that up to 1 billion birds die every year from window strikes but there are things you can do to protect our fine-feathered friends. * Put tape on your windows. You can purchase reflective tape on Amazon made especially for
protecting birds. There are many other sites as well. Just do a general search on how to protect birds from window strikes. Be sure to follow the instructions for correct placement. * Decals. Companies like Window Alert sell decals specifically made to protect birds from window strikes. They also sell a unique spray that can be applied to your windows. Check other websites as well to get the best price. * Add screens to your windows. Easy Up Shade (easyupshade.com) offers shades that attach with suction cups so they can be easily removed if needed. * Get creative and paint your windows with nontoxic tempura paint. You can easily change your artwork with the seasons or for special occasions. * Close your drapes or blinds. * If you have feeders near windows, consider moving them away from the windows. * Place small mesh netting over your windows. You can use a frame to make
it easy to hang up and remove. It should be at least 3 inches from the window. * Collide Scape (collidescape.org) makes a one-way transparent film that allows you to see out but makes the window appear
opaque from the outside. * Install outside sun shades or shutters. If you find a bird that has hit a window, gently pick it up and examine it for injuries. If there are no apparent injuries and you

March is National Pet Poison Prevention Month Keep Your Pets Safe with Tips from Best Friends Animal Society
Courtesy Best Friends Animal Society Watching your dog or cat get sick from toxic items or poison is a nightmare for a n y pet owner. Symptoms of poisoning can be especially traumatic, ranging from seizures and vomiting to nosebleeds and diarrhea. “Nobody wants to see their pets suffer in such a painful way or, worst-case scenario, have a fatal incident. That’s why it’s im portant to make sure your home environment keeps dogs and cats as safe as possible,” said Dr. Erin Katribe, veterinarian and medical director for Best Friends Animal Society. As March is Pet Poison Prevention Month, Best Friends encourages pet owners to protect their pets from potential ingestion of any of the following: * Antifreeze * Bait for rodents * B a t t e r i e s (which can contain corrosiv e fluid) * Car care products, such as cleaners or oils * Fertilizer * Gorilla Glue (or similar products) * Household cleaners * Ice-melting products * Medications – prescribed and over-the-
counter * Nicotine products * Pesticides for insects * Pool or pond products “Pets can be very inquisitive, so it’s always best to keep these items in a sealed cabinet area that your pets cannot have access to, whether that’s in the home, in a shed, or in a garage,” Katribe said. “If you use any of these products, always make sure to clean up any spillage immediately and thoroughly so ingestion can’t happen that way, either.” Food can be toxic to pets, so it’s always important to remember to never give or allow your pets to have access to any of the following: * Alcoholic beverages * Substances containing caffeine, such as coffee * Chocolate * Fatty foods, especially drippings and grease from cooking * Chicken and turkey bones * Grapes and raisins * Onions and garlic * Macadamia nuts * Salt and sugar * Yeast or bread dough “Plants can also be toxic and poisonous to pets,” Katribe said. “These plants include English ivy or holly, lilies, Chinaberry, iris, poinsettia, pokeweed
and daphne. For cats, even contact with the pollen of some lilies can be severely toxic.” Should your pet show any signs of poisoning, which include vomiting, diarrhea, seizures, blood in stool, paralysis, loss of appetite, bruising, noseb l e e d s , irregular heartbeat or inability to urinate, a veterinary consult is in immediate order. Courtesy Best Friends
Animal Society “Call your veterinary office or an emergency clinic as soon as possible to let them know of your pet’s symptoms and what they could have possibly ingested. The veterinary staff may be able to provide instructions on how to help decrease the severity of the situation prior to coming in or they may advise that you c o m e in immediately,” Katribe sa id. “Time is of the essence
when it comes to minimizing the dangerous effects of any poison, so every second counts.” Best Friends Animal Society is a leading animal welfare organization working to end the killing of dogs and cats in America’s shelters by 2025. Founded in 1984, Best Friends is a pioneer in the no-kill movement and has helped reduce the number of animals killed in shelters from an estimated 17
million per year to around 625,000. Best Friends runs lifesaving programs all across the country, as well as the nation’s largest nokill animal sanctuary. Working collaboratively with a network of more than 3,200 animal welfare and shelter partners, and community members nationwide, Best Friends is working to Save Them All®. Community VFW Speech Competition Winners Congratulations to Noah Bay, Abigail Bay, and Haley Perry from Richards I.S.D. for winning the local V.F.W.

with his speech entitled, "Is This the Country Our Founding Fathers Envisioned," and his younger sister, Abigail
Bay won the Junior High Patriot's Pen competition with her speech on "What Patriotism is To Me." Haley Perry won
2nd place for the Junior High Patriot's Pen division. All three of these students did an excellent job and we are
very proud of them. Photos and the winning s p e e c h e s a r e featured below.
What is Patriotism to me?
by: Abigail Bay Patriotism to me is s o m e o n e ’s v i g o r o u s support toward their country. There are several different ways we can show patriotism. A few examples are voting, supporting veterans, and flying the Stars and Stripes correctly. One of the ways we can show patriotism is by simply voting. By voting we show that we care about our country and who leads it. If you are a woman and you vote you are showing appreciation to the 19th amendment, that everyone, no matter what gender, is allowed to vote. If you are of the African American race then by voting you are
showing appreciation to the 15th amendment, the right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude. This shows that you care about, and are thankful for the people that fought for those amendments. Supporting veterans is another way to show patriotism, by supporting veterans you are showing that you care about the people that fought for our country and our rights. By simply thanking a veteran for their service you are showing
patriotism because you care about them. Veterans themselves show patriotism by sacrificing their lives, families, and careers to support our country. We can send money and checks to different non-profit organizations that help veterans or by just giving them money and resources that they need to live. Flying the American flag correctly is a big deal. By flying the flag correctly you are showing that you care about our country and the way that people treat it. Some ways that you fly your flag correctly is if the flag is not touching anything below it such as
the floor. The flag should always be held aloft and freely. Lastly, the flag should never be worn as apparel, bedding, or drapery. So by simply flying the flag correctly you are showing patriotism. The American flag is a big deal in our country so flying it correctly is a great way to show patriotism. So in conclusion, these are some ways that you can show patriotism. By voting, supporting veterans, and flying the Stars and Stripes correctly. There are several other ways that you can show patriotism to our country, because it is very important.
Is This the Country the Founders Envisioned? by: Noah Bay, Mrs. Stricker English 3
September 24, 2020 The Founders of America envisioned a country where everyone stands united as one and everyone views one another as equal. Everyone was given the same opportunity as everyone else because as is stated in
the Declaration of Independence, “We hold these truths to be selfevident, that all men are created equal.” This is what the founders envisioned. They believed that every person was created equal and should be given the same
opportunities as anyone else. The founders believed that there is not one person that was created above another individual. John Dickinson in 1768 says in the Liberty Song, “Then join hand in hand, brave Americans all! By uniting we stand, by dividing we fall.” They envisioned people standing together, rather than people separating themselves from others. They pictured a group of people being proud of where they live. But is our country today what the founders envisioned? I believe in some cases America today is what the founders envisioned, but in most cases, I do not think it lives up to their standards. Everyone is supposed to be presented with the same opportunities as everyone else, but not everyone is. Some people deny others equal opportunities simply because of their ethnicity or because of what part of America they were born in. It is morally wrong to deny someone the same
opportunity as others based on things as simple a s t h o s e . We s h o u l d attempt to live up to the standards the founders set and treat everyone e q u a l l y, r a t h e r t h a n treating people unequally simply because of their differences. The founders envisioned a country with all people standing together united as one. However, that is not the case today. People in our country separate themselves from others by mere differences and this is not what the founders pictured. Today people purposefully segregate themselves from others based on the color of their skin, the job they may have, how much money they make, what clothes they wear, and for a multitude of other reasons. The founders did not have this in mind when they were creating our country. Why must people separate from others and feel that they are better? Why can’t we all come together and unite as one, instead of fighting one another?
Why must people feel the need to look down on others? People need Jesus now more than ever. We all need to stand as one, regardless of race, age, job, economic status, etc. I believe that is what the founders envisioned when creating America. The founders also pictured people being proud of where they live. But that is not the case today. Many individuals take what they have for granted, and are not proud of the soil they stand on. Many veterans often risked and even gave their lives for our country so we can live free. Without these veterans sacrificing their life and fighting for our freedom, our country would not be the nation it is today. It is by the grace of God and the sacrifices of our brave veterans that these people are able to have a life in America. People should be thankful and feel proud of where they live. Why do people born in America feel like they deserve the life God has placed them in? They did nothing to deserve it. Does a person born in the
poorest parts of Africa deserve that life? It is by the grace of God that people have the opportunity to live in America, but they take it for granted. This is not what the founders envisioned. They pictured a proud group of people together in the country they had created. In conclusion, I do not think America today is what the founders envisioned. But that does not mean it has to stay that way. Nothing is stopping us from becoming what the founders pictured. The only thing holding us back is us. We need to look beyond our judgments we place on other individuals and treat them equally. We need to stand by those around us, united regardless of differences. We need to open our eyes and see how graceful God has been to us by allowing us to live a life in America. So I encourage anyone that reads this to strive to do these things. Together we can become the America that the founders set out for us to become.
¨What is Patriotism to Me.¨ by: Haley Perry I think Patriotism to me is showing all your love and support to your country and how you contribute to your country. Patriotism can also be many different things like your ethnic, cultural, political or historical aspects. The ways you can show patriotism is by singing the national anthem which is one of the best ways to honor your country, support a veteran and do more than just thank them, fly the star and s t r i p s c o r r e c t l y, a n d support our national parks. I think the national anthem is a part of patriotism because it shows that you support your country and all that they do for you. When the national anthem is played
you should stand up and put your hand over your heart and sing or hum along to the song. Military forces will stand up and solute. You should not kneel during the national anthem unless you don't support your country. I think supporting a veteran is a good thing to do because it shows that you love and support your country. It also shows that you respect our military forces and veterans for all they have done for us and how well they served our country. If you see someone that is in the military or is a veteran you can always thank them for all the hard work they do and for possibly putting their life in danger. To me flying the flag
correctly is very imporI think patriotism is support to your country. I important in today's world tant. The stripes represent important because you have four reasons why I and I support every reason the original 13 colonies s h o w y o u r l o v e a n d think that patriotism is I listed. and the star represents the 50 states of the union. The colors on the flag are symbolic as well. The flag should never be flown upside down because it's disrespectful, it shouldn't be burned unless it's being burned properly, and the last thing a flag should never do is touch the ground. Finally I think supporting national parks is a good idea because we should keep our environment clean. National parks are home to many species and people. I think national parks help people in today's world learn more about wildlife and the history behind them.
