Gas Prices (March 15, 2021) - Texas gas prices have risen 9.8 cents per gallon in the past week, a v e r a g i n g $ 2 . 6 1 / g t o d a y, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 13,114 stations in Texas. Gas prices in Texas are 42.1 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand 63.6 cents per gallon higher than a year ago. According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Texas is priced at $1.99/g today while the most expensive is $3.49/g, a difference of $1.50/g. The lowest price in the state today is $1.99/g while the highest is $3.49/g, a difference of $1.50/g. The national average price of gasoline has risen 5.9 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $2.86/g today. The national average is up 33.2 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 64.0 cents per gallon higher than a year ago. Neighboring areas and their current gas prices: Midland Odessa- $2.85/g, up 11.5 cents per gallon from last week's $2.74/g. San Antonio- $2.52/g, up 9.4 cents per gallon from last week's $2.42/g. Austin- $2.54/g, up 7.7 cents per gallon from last week's $2.46/g. "As Americans turn optimistic on COVID-19 pandemic recovery, we've been seeing insatiable demand for gasoline, which continues to recover far faster than oil production. According to GasBuddy data, last week's gasoline demand was just 1% below the pre-pandemic level, an extremely bullish factor likely to continue driving gas and oil prices up in the short term," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy. "The recovery in the last few weeks has been astounding- both the speed and overall volume increases we've seen in our data lend credibility to the recovery, and perhaps will lead to continued price increases due to the continued imbalance between supply and demand. It's no longer a question of if we'll see gasoline demand return to near normal this year but when, and will oil producers rise to the occasion and be able to quickly ramp up output, or are we going to see the highest summer prices since 2014 until they jump into action? Only time will tell, but it's looking like things are heating up far more than expected since the start of the year." GasBuddy is the authoritative voice for gas prices and the only source for stationlevel data spanning nearly two decades. Unlike AAA's once daily survey covering credit card transactions at 100,000 stations and the Lundberg Survey, updated once every two weeks based on 7,000 gas stations, GasBuddy's survey updates 288 times every day from the most diverse list of sources covering nearly 150,000 stations nationwide, the most comprehensive and up-to-date in the country. Article by Mark Hooker Photos Courtesy of Debbie Pietsch After Saturday’s Texas High School Bass Association Houston Division Tournament on Lake Conroe, I thought I would have no problem with writing this article. Truth of the matter is, I along with others present, were in awe of what these young men and women of the MISD Fishing Team just accomplished. Let’s start with the tournament itself. Coming into Saturday’s event, your MISD Fishing Team had the goal of winning, but by how much was Historic in and of itself. The top 3

Teams for Montgomery were unbelievably, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, with a total weight of 68.87 pounds! That’s right, it’s not a misprint, MISD’s top 3 teams had almost 69 pounds of fish for their top 3 Teams, easily outdistancing our closest competitor by over 20 pounds!! With MISD coming in 1st, 2nd, & 3rd, catching 68.87 pounds, and winning by over 20 pounds, all three accomplishments were firsts for this program. “History Was Made.” Leading the combined squad for MISD was Sofy Hartman, fishing Solo in this event, and per THSBA rules, accompanied by her

Mother as an official observer, and as well by her Captain. The pressure was on Sofy, as prior to the event, she was just above the cutline to make it to Regionals. She also had the pressure of being in the boat Captained by one of our “Local Legends,” Trea Luedke. Sofy responded like I knew she would, but how she did it left us all with our mouths open. She stunned the crowd with an awesome 5 fish limit of 24.20 pounds, anchored by a 9.92 whopper! Another first for the program, a new Solo Team record for an event. “History Was Made.” Our Second Place Team of brothers Zach & Jake

Hird are no strangers for doing well for the combined squad. This formidable tandem brought an awesome 5 fish limit to the scales, which weighed in at 23.12 pounds. This Team has been a consistent force for MISD all season, and will be a Team that the MISD Fishing Team will be counting on at the Regional Tournament to be held at Lake Palestine in April. Coming in Third for MISD was a pair of Anglers that definitely responded to the pressure and magnitude of the event. Garrett “Outdoors”

Funds Awarded To Help Those Affected By The Severe Winter Weather The Woodlands, Texas – The recent severe arctic weather that paralyzed much of Texas took its toll on Montgomery County residents. In recognition of the lost wages Montgomery County residents suffered and the extraordinary expenses resulting from the loss of power and broken pipes, the board of the Montgomery County Community Foundation awarded grants to two local nonprofits. This allowed them to act quickly as residents find themselves in financial binds at the beginning of March. C o m m u n i t y Assistance Center received $27,281 to help pay utilities bills, rent or mortgages and other extraordinary expenses for qualified Montgomery County residents affected by the four day shut down. Montgomery County Food Bank received $27,281 to purchase and distribute food. The Food Bank has experienced

Suggestions for Mindful Eating: Shaved Brussel Sprout Salad Food for Thought Diana Anderson

DianaCAnderson@ gmail.com

I have a love/hate relationship with salads. I truly enjoy them (especially when someone else makes them) but the idea of putting one together just seems boring. I make myself do it because of the health benefits all those raw greens offer but for someone who genuinely looks forward to the taste of food it’s frequently disappointing. Following a recipe for a salad might seem odd but, in this case, there is there is a genuine pay-off because the result is a very un-boring, deliciously healthy, side or

MISDfrom page 1 Peel and his partner Mason Jones had dug themselves into a hole prior to this event by being below the cutline for Regionals. This team “brought it” for this tournament, securing a 5 fish limit that weighed an impressive 21.55 pounds. Thus, vaulting them above the cutline, and bringing much needed momentum for this pair headed towards Regionals. Another first is that we had a Solo Angler in Cade Lipham accomplish something that has never been done before in Program History. He has earned the distinction of being the 2020-2021 Houston Division Angler of the Year. Quite the feat when you take into consideration that Cade was the Best Angler out of Teams of Anglers from 24 High Schools in the Houston Area. “History Was Made.” Another Historic event that occurred on Saturday

main meal experience. It is a Shaved Brussels Sprouts Salad-Thinly Shaved Brussels Sprouts With Apple, Dried Cranberries, Sunflower Seeds, Parmesan Cheese with A Simple Maple Mustard Dressing. To make a brussels sprouts salad, first you have to shred or shave the brussels sprouts. Don’t worry, it is easy! You can use a food processor, mandolin, or sharp knife, all methods work really well. More and more frequently I have seen preshaved Brussels available packaged in the produce section if that is more appealing. First, wash the brussels sprouts really well and remove any leaves that are damaged. Trim off the

ends with a sharp knife. * To shred brussels sprouts in the food processor, use the slicing attachment and pulse the brussels sprouts until they are shredded. * To shave the brussels sprouts with a mandoline, make sure you are VERY careful. Use the guard or even better, get a cut resistant glove. Use the thinnest blade on the mandoline to thinly slice the brussels sprouts. * To shave the brussels sprouts with a knife, use a sharp knife and slice the brussels sprouts as thin as possible. Don’t be hesitant to eat brussels sprouts raw, they are so delicious! I know brussels sprouts are traditionally roasted or sautéed, but you have to

was the fact that the MISD F i s h i n g Te a m d i d something that no other Te a m i n t h e H o u s t o n Division has ever done. They won all 5 Conference To u r n a m e n t s f o r t h e Conference Season. “History Was Made.” The Team wanted me to convey a HUGE gratitude of Thanks to the many folks that make this endeavor possible. First, they wanted to make sure that their Parents/Captains were acknowledged. Wi t h o u t o u r P a r e n t s supporting this program, we would not be where we are. Secondly, we have a “Fleet” if you will, of Captains that volunteer their time, talent, and resources to insure success of the Teams that they Captain for. This is all the more admirable, as they don’t have a “Dog in the Fight” so to speak. I know there have been MANY volunteer Captains over the years, but there are four that have stood out for the program for their years of service. They are Steve Keating, Danny Ferraro, John Rankin, and Trea

Luedke. Without Volunteer Captains such as them, there would have been a bunch of MISD Anglers that would have not been able to compete. The Team also has a deep sense of gratitude to the Sponsorship Team that

try them raw in a salad. They will remind you of cabbage. They have a nice crunch and are so good in salads. I love using shaved brussels sprouts in salads because they hold up. You can dress the salad hours before serving and it is still good. The brussels sprouts doesn’t get soggy at all. After you have your shaved brussels sprouts, you can add in all of the other ingredients. * apples * dried cranberries * sunflower seeds * Parmesan cheese * maple mustard dressing This salad has everything…sweet, salty, crunchy, tangy, and it is pretty to serve! It is the perfect salad for any meal. * I like to use Honeycrisp apples for this

salad, but feel free to use your favorite. * I also like to use sunflower seeds but chopped pecans or almonds would be good too. * Shaved or shredded Parmesan works well in this salad. * Make sure you buy pure maple syrup for the maple dressing, not pancake syrup:) * You can shred the brussels sprouts up to 2 days in advance. Keep them in a Ziploc bag or container in the fridge until ready to assemble the salad. * You can also make the dressing up to four days in advance. Keep in the fridge until ready to use. Whisk well before dressing the salad. Ingredients

For the Dressing: * 1/3 cup olive oil * 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice * 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar * 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup * 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard * 1 clove garlic minced * Kosher salt and black pepper to taste For the Salad: * 1 lb. Brussels sprouts ends trimmed * 1 large Honeycrisp apple chopped (or 2 small apples) * 1/2 cup dried cranberries * 1/2 cup sunflower seeds * 1/3 cup shredded or shaved Parmesan cheese * Kosher salt and black pepper to taste

has made it possible for them to compete. Without the sponsors, the Team would not be able to compete as well as it h a s . T h i s y e a r ’s Platinum Sponsors are: Shipley Do-Nuts, LMC Marine, Travis Hird M.D., SBM Contractors, Perry Construction, New Te x P l u m b i n g , a n d Rudy’s Country Store and Bar-B-Q. The Official Product Sponsors of the Team are the Strike K i n g L u r e C o m p a n y, Hobie Polarized Sunglasses, and St. Croix Rods. Also, there are two Advisors to the MISD F i s h i n g Te a m , w h i c h includes myself at Lake Creek High School, and M r s . To n i L u e d k e a t Montgomery High School. Yes, I was the Faculty Advisor to start the program in 2014 due to a Senior and First Club President in Blake Te a s d a l e , t h a t “encouraged” me see the light as to how this would be a Great Program for the students of Montgomery. To be honest, I don’t think Blake or I could have ever envisioned what this

program would become. H o w e v e r, s i n c e M r s . Luedke has joined us, there has been a driving force in this program. I have said it MANY times before, “ t h e r e w o u l d n ’t b e a Fishing Team without Toni Luedke.” To recap, let’s revisit all of the firsts that were accomplished by this talented group of Anglers so far this year. Largest Solo 5 fish limit, biggest winning margin, first time to have our top 3 Teams come in 1st, 2nd, & 3rd, having a Solo Angler win t h e A O Y, t h e l a r g e s t winning weight in program history, and winning all 5 Conference events. “History was made.”

Comments According to Doc

On Saint Paddy’s Day The IRISH HUMOR Flows And Is Infectious!!! Walden Happenings By Doc Fennessy The opinions expressed in this editorial do not necessarily reflect those of MCN.

[PART TWO: THE IRISH ARE HERE; HAPPY SAINT PADDY’S DAY]. !!} Extolling things Irish became an important and integral part of the campaign in the second part of the nineteenth century, to restore the self-respect of the deflated and abject Irish people in America - at least the Catholic part of it. Furthermore, the literature of modem Ireland has tended, inadvertently but inevitably, to add to that tangle of myth, cliché, and self-immortalized romanticization that might be called the "IRISH MYSTIQUE." George Bernard Shaw, in fact, had an idea that the Irish character was largely due to the climate when he said, "Your wits can't thicken in the warm, moist air." Like it or not, the Irishman cannot help seeming romantic, quirky and sometimes quaint-at least to others, if not himself. The really remarkable thing about Ireland is that a small country, which has done so little should have had such fabulous myths and legends, established about her particularly here in America. Any definition of the “Irish Mystique” is hampered by the fact that Ireland and the Irish mean entirely different things to different people. To an American, “The Irish Mystique” probably has something to do with those flamboyant Irish of the past, involved in the old Democratic political machine, Irish boxing champions, Irish writers such as Eugene O'Neil, F. Scott Fitzgerald, John O'Hara, Notre Dame and also Fordham football teams, actors Barry Fitzgerald, John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara, and probably all the high Catholic churchmen in America. "To get the full flavor of Irish America, one used to be able to collect all of these together, plus the perception of lace

curtain Irish and shantytown Irish, and put them all in an annual jamboree called the Saint Patrick's Day Parade - for which the streets were closed by New York's finest [police], who were nearly all Irish" {Max Caulfield}. The past is never very far away from the Irish. In fact, some people have said that the Irish are haunted by the past. The Irish are a proud race of people. Every year on March 17th, Irish celebrate Saint Patrick's Day throughout the world, and also hundreds of millions of others that celebrate with them. You will hear that, "There are only two kinds of people in this world, them that are Irish, and them that wish they were, so you've got to be one of us. "St. Patrick's day is a curious reminder of this illustrious and proud race of peoples' historical struggle to survive, grow and prevail. Ah yes folks here in Texas, please be aware that one of civilizations greatest tragedies is that, "GOD" invented whiskey so that the Irish would not rule the world! "Irishness is one of the world's oldest excuses; somehow, the people of the Emerald Isle have always been viewed in anything but the same cold and analytical light that all other nationalities must endure. You can be glib and reckless and a bit heavy on the sauce - and if you have even a drop of Irish blood in you - well, then it's okay, because, after all, you're Irish. You can be lazy and love the horses and sport, but no matter because you're Irish. Yo u c a n b e l i e v e i n leprechauns and march up and down Fifth Avenue on Saint Paddy's Day, on March 17th, but what of it? 'YOU'RE IRISH!’” {Max Caulfield}. "The Irish are the most gregarious people in the world, they find themselves condemned to exist on the periphery of the world, with nobody to talk to but themselves .... "{Max Caulfield}. Humor is important in the Irish heritage in that when things got so bad in life, they learned to laugh at themselves to sustain their

insurmountable spirit and tenacity. “People say that the Irish are always laughing. But if you tapped an Irishman on the shoulder and asked what he is laughing about, he'd tell you it was 'because otherwise we'd be crying'" – {Dominic Behan, one of Brendan's brothers}. In the face of continued adversity, try to be positive and humorous, and that folks, is part of the “Irish Mystique!” Through jokes, limericks and songs the Irish have expressed themselves to the delight of the world. The Irish have a way with words that belongs to them alone. Oscar Wilde once said that, "We are a nation of brilliant failures; but we are the greatest talkers in the world since the early Greeks." Folks, there is a bit of Irish in everyone especially the Texans. Did you know that 38 of the 79 defenders at the Alamo were Irish immigrants?? Surely, we laugh at ourselves, and why not? We laugh at politics, we laugh at religion and we laugh at all sorts of things. To laugh at anything is part of being Irish!!! The Ireland's great internationally recognized Irish comedian Hal Roach [Former Star Performer at Juries Supper-Club, just south of Dublin] has written extensively about laughter. Roach was dramatically philosophic when he said that, "Laughter warms the room. When we laugh everything is obliterated from our minds and nobody can get in there, worries about income tax, mother-inlaws, nothing can get past the laugh. We laugh together and we can forget the world. Laughter is the food of the soul- we cannot live without it. If we don't laugh we disintegrate and we die, we will slowly die away. Everything we do in life is related to laughter. To laugh is to love, to laugh is to understand, to laugh is to forgive - we must laugh. The laughter of children is beautiful, and their smile can be devastating." "When Irish eyes are smiling, sure it's like a morn in spring." Folks, just let me give you the

Rock of Cashel, Ireland. Irishman “Doc” Fennessy in Ireland, tips his hat as he offers “The Luck and Happiness of the Irish” to all those who are Irish on Saint Paddy’s Day, and to all who wish they were. The Rock of Cashel is where Saint Patrick was giving a sermon, came down from the Rock, picked up a three-leaf shamrock, explained GOD’S Holy Trinity and converted pagan Irish to Christianity!

meaning of an Irish smile. According to Hal Roach, "A smile cost nothing, it creates much, it enriches those that receive without improvising those that give. It happens in a flash - and the memory of a sometimes laugh and smile may last forever. There are none so rich that they can get along without it and none that are so poor that they're richer with its benefits. Laughter and smiling create happiness in the home - it is the conversation of friends - it is rest to the weary - daylight to the discouraged - sunshine to the sad - weak respect for those that are troubled - and yet it cannot be begged, bought, borrowed or stolen because it is no good to anyone until it is given away. So during the course of the day when friends are too tired to give you a smile or a laugh, then why don't you do as the Irish do and give them one of yours." Folks, no one needs a smile more than those that have nothing left to give. WHEN THE IRISH ARE SMILING, THEIR HUMOR IS INFECTIOUS - and sure they'll steal your heart away. Being in an Irish Pub in Ireland is a real experience and you’ll have some memorable tales to tell as the laughter passes around the room. Here are some more recent Irish humor to

be told [and re-told] in the local pubs and party celebrations on Saint Paddy's Day. Laughter is infectious as it can be passed on, and vividly illustrates persona of the typical Irishman as people see him. Laughter and smiling can create Happiness!! {Irish Prayer} - Murphy was staggering home with a pint of booze in his back pocket when he slipped and fell heavily. Struggling to his feet, he felt something wet running down his leg. "Please Lord," he implored, "let it be blood!!" * {You've Been Out Drinking Again "} - An Irishman had been drinking at a pub all night. The bartender finally said that the bar is closing. So the Irishman stood up to leave and fell flat on his face. He tried to stand one more time; same result. He figured he'd crawl outside and get some fresh air and maybe that would sober him up. Once outside, he stood up and fell on his face again. So he decided to crawl the four blocks home. When he arrived at the door he stood up and fell flat on his face. He crawled through the door and into his bedroom. When he reached his bed he tried one more time to stand up. This time he managed to pull himself upright, but he quickly fell

right into the bed and was sound asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow. He was awakened the next morning to his wife standing over him, shouting, "SO YOU'VE BEEN DRINKING AGAIN!" Putting on an innocent look, and intent on bluffing it out he said, "What makes you say that?" "The pub just called; you left your wheelchair there again." It is interesting to mention a true fact; when traveling any street in any town in Ireland you will see that every door is painted and decorated differently just so the drunken Irishmen can find their own front door on their way home at night. An Irish Priest is driving down to New York and gets stopped for speeding in Connecticut. The state trooper smells alcohol on the priest's breath and then sees the empty wine bottle on the floor of the car. The trooper says "Sir, have you been drinking?" "Oh no, just a little water," says the priest. "Then why do I smell wine?" Astounded, the Irish Priest looks at the bottle, and he exclaims, "GOOD LORD! HE’S DONE IT GAIN!!!” “SLAINTE!” {Irish for Cheers & Good Health}, and the beat and the Irish Humor Goes On!!

2. Bill filing deadline eminent Friday March 12 marks the 60th day of the legislative session, which is the last day members can file new legislation. The only exceptions are for local bills and bills that relate to an emergency item set by the governor. This bill filing deadline marks

an important turning point in session. Now, once bills are heard and voted out of committee, the Senate as a whole may begin voting on and passing legislation out of the chamber. As bills start to move, the pace of session accelerates and important decisions about pending legislation will be made. If there is a bill you are particularly passionate about, please reach out to one of my offices to let us know your thoughts. 3. TPWD seeking public comment on statewide hunting regulation proposals The Texas Parks and Wi l d l i f e D e p a r t m e n t recently released their new statewide hunting regulation proposals for the 2021-2022 hunting seasons. One of the proposed changes is removing the prohibition on trailing wounded deer with dogs in Angelina, Hardin, Nacogdoches, Orange, Shelby, and Tyler counties. Additionally, it would allow for the trailing of wounded deer with no more than two dogs on a leash in Jasper, Newton, Sabine, and San Augustine counties. The new

regulations would also add crossbows to the definition of lawful archery equipment, among other provisions. Currently, TPWD is seeking public comment on these changes. The online comment portal closes March 24.

Governor Abbott Holds Press Conference On Election Integrity Legislation Governor Previously Named Election Integrity As Emergency Item This Session AUSTIN - Governor Greg Abbott today held a press conference in Houston on the importance of election integrity legislation this session. The Governor named election integrity as an emergency legislative item during his State of the State address in February. Governor Abbott was joined for the press conference by Senator Paul Bettencourt and Representative Briscoe Cain, who have both filed several pieces of legislation to enhance election integrity in Texas. The Governor discussed the need to pass laws this

session to prevent election officials from jeopardizing the election process and encouraging voter fraud through the abuse of mail ballots and drive-thru voting. He also called for more transparency at the polls by ensuring that poll watchers in Texas are not obstructed from observing the counting of ballots. "Our objective in Texas is to ensure that every eligible voter gets to vote and that only eligible ballots are counted," said Governor Abbott. "In the 2020 election, we witnessed actions throughout our state that could risk the

integrity of our elections and enable voter fraud, which is why I made election integrity an e m e rg e n c y i t e m t h i s session. Thank you to Senator Bettencourt and

Representative Cain for their leadership on this important issue and drafting legislation to protect free and fair elections in the state of Texas."

Senator Brandon Creighton Files the Texas Monument Protection Act March 2021, Senator Brandon Creighton filed Senate Bill 1416, the Texas Monument Protection Act, legislation that offers protections, and creates a framework for the removal, relocation, and altering of Texas' statues, portraits, plaques, seals, symbols, building names, street names, park names, and cenotaphs. Senator Creighton offered the following statement: Our past is complicated, and our republic was built by imperfect men and women. There are parts of Texas history that we can learn from--good and bad, but running from history

will only prevent future generations from learning the hard lessons. This legislation creates a framework for removal or relocation of historical monuments in the state, ensuring public input and a well thought out process. When this bill was debated in the 86th Legislative session, critics made the false assumption that it was only focused on Civil War monuments-however, in the last year, monuments to George Washington, the Alamo, Ulysses S. Grant, Mahatma Ghandi, Abraham Lincoln, Winston Churchill, Sam Houston, Teddy Roosevelt, Thomas Jefferson and

many others have been removed, destroyed or defaced. We are at a crossroads where a vocal minority believes our founding fathers, Union Generals, and historical luminaries who shaped our society are too controversial. I have to ask, when does ‘cancel culture’ win over acknowledging and teaching our past-- whether great or painful?

* Creates a process, and requires public input for the removal, relocation, and altering of Texas' statues, portraits, plaques, seals, symbols, building names, street names, park names, and cenotaphs. * Utilizes the Texas Preservation Trust Fund Account so new monuments and plaques can be erected to compliment or contrast with existing monuments. (e.g. Lee & Grant, Lincoln & Douglas) * Includes a penalty with a maximum $1500 fine for the first offense and $25,000 fine for subsequent offenses.

This bill: * Protects all monuments…from the 10 Commandments to the San Jacinto Monument, from the Alamo to schools and streets named after At time of filing, SB Lincoln, Washington or 1416 has 10 Joint Authors. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Devotional How Do We Make The Best Of A Bad Situation Spreading the Word

By Gail J. Box Gailbox@consolidated.net

It seems that the more we live life, the more complicated life gets. As an “elder,” I keep waiting for a simpler life, but here came Covid. Even our vocabulary changed. Are you wearing your mask today? Have you had your fist (or second!) shots? Is this (or that) place open

yet? And on and on. Have we ever heard that “God makes a way where there is no way?” And He also has a “Book” for us where all our questions are answered in our “bad situations.” Yes, He is very aware of all these things. God hasn’t left us. His plans are much greater than ours. We only have to wait and pray for His mercies to come forth at the very right time – His right time –not ours.

First, we must continue to develop a good attitude. No one desires that each conversation ends with negative words or attitudes. Keep a few scriptures on hand to end the conversation on a heavenly note: “For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so the thoughts of God no one knows except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the

Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God…” First Corinthians 2:11-12. Second, work hard for good purposes. Many times a year, our church feeds the poor and hungry. The scripture tells us this: “Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry, and you

gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in;’ “ Matthew 25: 34 – 35. Third, God has a plan for each one of us. Here is what He says: “The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fail, for the Lord holds them by the hand.” Psalm 37: 23 – 24. Fourth and last,

have faith. To me, faith is the cornerstone of all our beliefs. God says we have to believe with faith in all His wonderful promises for us. “So faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of Christ.” Romans 10:17. As we continue reading His word, we will be those of faith who believe Jesus is the Savior of all mankind. And at the end, we will all shout: “AMEN. COME LORD JESUS.” Revelation 22: 20b

Community Women Trailblazers: SHSU Alumna Becomes Highest-Ranking Female In Texas Ranger History By: Victor Henson II Sam Houston State University alumna Wende Wakeman, was a Ranger Lieutenant working for the Department of Public Safety during college and made it her personal goal to graduate while working 50-hour weeks. After graduating in 2020 with a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Wakeman began

to focus on passing her Captain's test and being promoted. That August, Wakeman earned that promotion and became a Texas Ranger Captain, launching her into the Texas record books as the highest-ranking female in Texas Ranger history. Since her promotion, Wakeman is looking to train other Texas Rangers in leadership, making better law enforcement

officials for the future, which will lead to better practices and techniques in the field. Though her success in law enforcement has been historic, Wakeman still credits her team for their support. "Fortunately, we have a great team, and our leadership along with our civilian staff get along great,” Wakeman said. Wakeman is also a

division representative for child protection, where she trains troopers to go beyond traffic stops in an effort to help victims of crimes. The team meets regularly to discuss what they have encountered during traffic stops and adjust

the training for future law enforcement officials. Since graduating, Wakeman continues to communicate with her classmates from Sam Houston State and gives advice to them as they go through the academy.
