(March 29, 2021) - Texas gas prices have fallen 2.3 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.62/g today, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 13,114 stations in Texas. Gas prices in Texas are 20.6 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand 86.7 cents per gallon higher than a year ago. According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Texas is priced at $2.31/g today while the most expensive is $3.49/g, a difference of $1.18/g. The lowest price in the state today is $2.31/g while the highest is $ 3 . 4 9 / g , a d i ff e r e n c e o f $1.18/g. The national average price of gasoline has fallen 2.7 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $2.84/g today. The national average is up 12.9 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 87.5 cents per gallon higher than a year ago. Neighboring areas and their current gas prices: Midland Odessa- $2.86/g, down 2.1 cents per gallon from last week's $2.88/g. San Antonio- $2.49/g, down 2.6 cents per gallon from last week's $2.52/g. Austin- $2.54/g, down 1.9 cents per gallon from last week's $2.55/g. "After the feverish rise in gas prices to start the year, increases have largely tapered off and we're now seeing decreasing prices in most areas of the country, thanks to oil prices that have moderated for the time being," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy. "As the Suez Canal has remained block for nearly a week, we could see some volatility in the price of oil this week as the market digests any updates as hundreds of ships remain in limbo. Back stateside, refiners have made the switch to summer gasoline and price impacts have been limited thus far, but demand for gasoline remains strong. Last week saw total gasoline demand at yet another pandemic high according to GasBuddy data. As we approach warmer weather and motorists are increasingly getting outside, it could drive prices higher, so long as COVID-19 cases don't jump along with it and lead to new travel restrictions." GasBuddy is the authoritative voice for gas prices and the only source for station-level data spanning nearly two decades. Unlike AAA's once daily survey covering credit card transactions at 100,000 stations and the Lundberg Survey, updated once every two weeks based on 7,000 gas stations, GasBuddy's survey updates 288 times every day from the most diverse list of sources covering nearly 150,000 stations nationwide, the most comprehensive and up-to-date in the country. Suggestions for Mindful Eating: Fiber Food for Thought Diana Anderson
DianaCAnderson@ gmail.com
Choosing what to eat is interesting. Most of us make the choice based on “what we feel like.” More and more I am trying to make the choice by thinking, not feeling, and considering what is good for me. It’s hard to embrace this fact; “Food is the #1 determinant of health and disease during your lifetime.” We eat about 80,000 pounds of food during an average life span. The good news? We get a lot of chances to make a great choice for our body and life. Because research s h o w s : W h e t h e r i t ’s digestion, metabolism, the immune system, or your mood — all thriving health begins in the gut. It’s being talked about a lot today – the gut. But exactly what is that? When we hear the term “gut” what is meant is the total “gut microbiota.” This are the gut microorganisms, a shockingly broad, expansive community that live inside us in harmony, in balance, and with a purpose. The depth of the microbiota is hard to

fathom. The numbers are so astronomical, in this case, thirty-nine trillion microorganisms in our colons, most of them bacteria. Like every other biome diversity of species is critically important to balance. Every single bite of food flows downstream to our gut microbes. They are not passive observers. Our food is also their food, but not every microbe eats the same food. This is why it’s so important for us to choose a wide variety of foods. If we permanently remove a food group, the microbes that thrive on that food will starve into extinction. This is easy to do when your favorite fruit or vegetable is available year-round. No need to forage what is in season. If blueberries are your fruit of choice you can have them 365 days a year despite the fact that they are only naturally available in your locale for maybe 6 weeks a year. So, if you eat your favorites you might find a substantial lack of diversity in your gut. More plant-based diversity = s t r o n g e r, h e a l t h i e r m i c r o b i o t a = s t r o n g e r, healthier you. I was recently listening to a podcast that asked, “how many different plants do you think you eat in a week?” Interesting question, right? I decided

Checking DHS Chief’s Dishonest Statements on Border Crisis! Walden Happenings By Doc Fennessy The opinions expressed in this editorial do not necessarily reflect those of MCN.
Folks, it seems that not only is President Joe Biden a pathological liar, but members of his cabinet are also liars in a phony attempt to cover up the boarder crisis. At the boarder the press, newspapers, radio and television are restricted to move about and interview illegal immigrants crossing the border, also they are not allowed to tour any of the territory involved i n b o a r d e r a c t i v i t y. Interestingly, the cabinet member chief of health and human services was interviewed this past Sunday, March 21st on television by Chris Wallis and for one half hour lied blatantly about everything the public already knows for a fact that is happening on our southern border. Chris Wallis presented him with known facts which the chief rebutted. This followed comments
director of the Center for Technology Policy and a senior research fellow for homeland security at The Heritage Foundation. The following untrue claims are corrected by one of the three authors and identified in blocks at the end of the comments. Folks, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas released a factually challenged and misleading statement Tuesday about the crisis on the border. As specialists in immigration policy at The Heritage Foundation, they will correct the record here on eight of Mayorkas’ erroneous claims in a comprehensive response. (The last name after each section identifies which of them responded.) [CLAIM NO. 1]: “The expulsion of single adults does not pose an operational challenge for the Border Patrol …” - Rating: False. One wonders whether Mayorkas ran this line by the men and women of the Border Patrol before saying it publicly, because if he had, he would have been embarrassed to make such a claim. Our Border
unaccompanied children who are from Mexico every d a y. A d m i n i s t r a t i o n officials have made a policy decision not to expel these children from the Northern T r i a n g l e c o u ntries—Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador—and the cartels and smugglers know this. The administration wants to have its cake and eat it, too, in desiring credit for supposedly treating unaccompanied minors more “humanely” without any criticism for detention of increasing numbers of these minors. (MORGAN.) [CLAIM NO. 3B]: “We are encountering 6and 7-year-old children, for example, arriving at our border without an adult.”Rating: Misleading. The Biden administration would have the American people believe most of the unaccompanied minors coming across the border are young children. This is false. The vast majority of unaccompanied children are between the ages of 15 and 17, with 75% over the age of 14. Many of these young people are coming to the border hoping to gain illegal entry into the U.S.

Patrol agents are apprehending 4,500 to 6,000 illegal aliens per day. Former DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson said in 2019 that under the Obama administration, 1,000 apprehensions were a crisis. We are at six times this volume today, and to suggest that dealing with this massive increase is not an operational challenge for the Border Patrol is to deny not just reality, but basic math. (MORGAN.) [CLAIM NO. 2]:( “We are expelling most … families.’’) Rating: False. The Biden administration is not utilizing all of its authorities with regards to the surge of family units. The facts tell us that the administration is not expelling “most” families under Title 42, as it claims. According to DHS data, the administration expelled only 41% of family units in February, down from 76% in December under the Trump administration. Washington Post reporter Nick Miroff pointed out this fact just this week. This is important, as the smugglers and cartels will capitalize on this fact and continue to push family units across the border, knowing that a majority will remain. (WOLF.) [CLAIM NO. 3]A: “We are not expelling unaccompanied children.” Rating: False. The Biden administration is expelling
for economic reasons. Minors should be treated humanely regardless of their age, but the administration’s reliance on trying to pull the heartstrings of Americans is just more evidence it is interested in manipulation, not facts. Mayorkas’ later accusation that the Trump administration put more children at risk for human trafficking is mindblowing, since the Biden administration’s undoing of Trump-era immigration policies has unleashed a historic flood of unaccompanied minors to the border, many of whom we know were trafficked or smuggled there. The Biden administration has empowered the cartels and human traffickers after President Donald Trump severely cut their profit margins. (MORGAN.) [CLAIM NO. 4]: “Mexico does not have the capacity to receive families.” Rating: Misleading. There are numerous misleading components to this answer. First, the surge in family units is a direct result of the Biden administration’s push for amnesty and undoing of effective Trump-era immigration policies. Mexico had been able to handle the return of family units under the Trump administration’s “Remain in Mexico” policy.
Lora Ries Second, Mexico is not the only country that can receive these illegal aliens, as they can be deported back to their country of origin. Third, the answer for Mexico is to help it build capacity—which both the State Department and other nongovernmental organizations can help enable. The answer is not to release illegal aliens and let them into the U.S., knowing that 90% will not qualify for asylum. (WOLF.) [CLAIM NO.5]: Reasons for the surge. Rating: Misleading. The Department of Homeland Security blames the Biden border crisis on violence in Northern Triangle countries, hurricanes, and the pandemic. To be clear, conditions are not so dramatically different in the Northern Triangle from years past to explain this historic surge. Not once does the administration take responsibility for disastrous messaging and the r e m o v a l o f e ff e c t i v e immigration policies without a clear plan in place. This is absurd.
tion Services hired approximately 500 additional asylum officers to advance the Trump administration’s priority of reducing the asylum b a c k l o g . T h e Tr u m p administration also shifted resources to prioritize the asylum backlog and those seeking protection at our own border. The Trump administration inherited a backlogged asylum system, and wisely chose to focus on reducing this backlog throughout Trump’s term. More individuals were granted asylum by DHS and the Justice Department during the four years of the Trump administration than under the final four years of the Obama administration. Total grants of asylum in 2 0 1 9 alone—46,508—were the highest annual total since at least 1990. (RIES) [Claim No. 7]: “The previous administration cut foreign aid funding to the Northern Triangle.” Rating: Misleading. Under the Trump administration, we demanded results before handing over millions of dollars in foreign assistance
[CLAIM NO. 8]: “There was no appropriate planning for the pandemic at all.” Rating: False. This statement is a slap in the face to the men and women at the Department of Homeland Security, who worked tirelessly to put plans in place to deal with the challenge of a pandemic on top of keeping our immigration system running. We implemented extensive plans—to include vaccine distribution to front-line officers when the vaccine would be made available—to ensure our front-line workers would be protected. We worked with other federal agencies to ensure Title 42 would be available to our immigration enforcement officials. We knew that putting illegal aliens in crowded Border Patrol facilities during the COVID-19 pandemic was not the answer. Unfortunately, the Biden administration believes it is. We provided the Biden transition team with extensive briefings on the border and the tools we had in place to address illegal border crossings. We
Chad Wolf Monthly apprehensions nearly doubled between summer 2020 and February 2021, because the Biden campaign and then the Biden administration was sending a clear signal to the world: If you arrive soon, you will receive amnesty. (WOLF) [CLAIM NO. 6]: “The prior administration completely dismantled the asylum system. “Rating: False. Mayorkas’ claims are simply false. U.S. Citizenship and Immigra-
funding. As a result, we signed over a dozen border security agreements and saw unprecedented cooperation and results from the Northern Triangle countries. These agreements helped slow the flow of illegal migrants through Central America, especially massive caravans, to our southern border. The Trump administration also made millions in funding available to these governments. (WOLF)
warned the transition team about the consequences of removing these policies. They heard it directly from Customs and Border Patrol law enforcement officers. They heard that Border Patrol stations did not have capacity, and they heard that the Department of Health and Human Services did not have capacity. They knew it all and still rushed to dismantle the system for political reasons. (WOLF.)

2. All adults eligible for vaccine starting March 29 The Texas Department of State Health Services announced that all Texans 16 and older will be eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine starting on March 29. Providers are being asked to prioritize appointments for people 80 and older. According to DSHS, Texas has administered almost 10 million doses and they expect the vaccine supply to increase. More than 3 million people have already been fully vaccinated and 6
million have received their first dose. Opening up eligibility comes as new coronavirus cases and hospitalization rates are at lows not seen since last fall and death rates have fallen. This is all welcome news as the state begins to reopen more fully and the vaccine becomes more available. 3. HHSC expanding visitation at nursing homes, long-term care facilities After a year of isolation, fully vaccinated residents in nursing homes and longterm care facilities will be able to receive visitors and have physical contact with loved ones as long as the facility permits it. The state announced this week that all assisted living centers, long-term care facilities, and nursing homes fall under the new rules. The Health and Human Services Commission stated the importance of visiting with friends and family and the impact it will have on residents' mental health and well-being. Before this new rule, only designated essential caregivers could visit for limited amounts of time, maintaining social
distancing, and after receiving training and screening. Now, residents are free to visit with their loved ones for an unlimited amount of time, physically touch them, and facilities are not required to limit indoor visitation to designated areas.

Sen. Cruz: The Crisis at the South Border Is the Worst I’ve Ever Seen On Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo, Sen. Cruz discusses his recent visit to the border and President Biden’s open borders agenda HOUSTON, Texas – U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) today appeared on Fox News’ ‘Sunday Morning Futures’ to discuss what he saw after leading a group of 18 his Senate colleagues to visit the border. Watch Sen. Cruz’s full interview with Maria Bartiromo here. Key excerpts are included below. WATCH: Cruz on Fox Discusses Recent Border Tour & Heartbreaking Realities of the Crisis Pres. Biden Created On what he saw touring the Donna U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) facility, Sen. Cruz said: “We spent a day and a half down at the border and I’ll tell you, it is bad. I've been to the border many, many times. It is the worst that I’ve ever seen it. It is a full-blown crisis. Last month – the month of February – we had over 100,000 illegal aliens crossing over. Roughly
30,000 of them were unaccompanied minors – kids. Just today, the Biden administration has over 16,000 children in custody. […] You saw in these cages, children – little boys and little girls – side by side. They’re not six feet apart. They’re not three feet apart. They’re not even six inches apart. They’re lying on the f l o o r. T h e r e a r e n o beds. They’re lying on the floor side by side. They’re covered with aluminum foil emergency blankets in that facility that children there are testing positive for COVID at roughly a 10% rate.” On how President Biden’s radical open borders agenda caused this crisis, Sen. Cruz added: “I think there’s three critical decisions that Joe Biden made in the first week as president. Number one, he immediately halted construction of the border wall. We saw sections of the
border wall where literally, they’re half done and there’s rusted rebar everywhere. They just left it. They just left it with holes in it, and of course, the illegal traffic is streaming through those holes. Number two, Joe Biden reinstated the failed catch and release policy. In other words, when someone is caught, they end up getting being given a court date sometime in the future, released, and everyone knows, a very small percentage of them ever show up again. And number Office Of The Governor, 3/15/21 three –and this was probably the most inexplicable – Biden ended the remain in Mexico agreement. This was an incredible agreement that President Trump negotiated with the nation of Mexico. The government of Mexico agreed that those people from Central America traveling illegally through Mexico would remain in Mexico while they had asylum cases proceeding in
the United States. When that was put in place, it worked. We saw the numbers drop.” On President Biden’s refusal to address this crisis, Sen. Cruz said: “Nobody is heading this. The problem for Democrats – they start from a premise that the more illegal immigration we have the better. They believe if you let all the illegal immigrants in, and then you make them all citizens that they will eventually vote Democrat and keep Democrats in power. But they also don’t understand incentives. So, you hear Jen Psaki saying, ‘well we’re just not going to keep kids’ – which is of course a lie – because there are 16,000 Kids in Biden cages right now. But they don’t get the incentives that when they announce, ‘any child that comes can stay,’ – that we will see it’s projected over 100,000 unaccompanied minors will come in.”
Brady, Comer Introduce “State Tax Freedom” Act Curbing Pelosi Path to Higher State Taxes Wa s h i n g t o n , D . C . — Insisting that Washington shouldn’t veto state tax cuts, Ways and Means Republican Leader Kevin Brady (R-TX) and House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Republican Leader James Comer (R-KY) introduced a new bill, the “State Tax Freedom Act." The bill (HR2189) pushes back against an unconstitutional provision inserted into the American Rescue Plan that restricts states’ ability to manage their own finances. "States that have helped workers, families, and Main Street businesses through tax relief need greater flexibility, not shackles from the federal government," said Rep. Brady. "Democrats rammed through an unconstitutional provision with no committee hearings or input from the states, and this bill will protect states’ freedom to make their own fiscal decisions." "Economists across the
political spectrum agree the Pelosi Payoff to Progressives Act will hamper economic recovery and job creation," said Rep. Comer. "The law rewards locked-down states due to their high unemployment rates and will hamper the economic recovery by prohibiting job-creating tax cuts in any state that receives a dime of funding relief from the law. The State Tax Freedom Act repeals the Democrats’ blatant attack on states’ rights and allows states to lower taxes for their residents." The State Tax Freedom Act will repeal the prohibition on states’ freedom to lower taxes if they receive money from the American Rescue Plan Act’s Coronavirus State Fiscal Recovery Fund. Additionally, the bill will make whole any state that is harmed by this provision, by requiring that Treasury refund the state any money that was clawed back due to the state cutting taxes. Treasury Secretary Janet
Yellen has so far not been very responsive to these concerns or provided much clarity or guidance on what restrictions states face. Republican leaders in the House wrote to Treasury urging clear guidance when the provision was discovered to have been inserted in the bill prior to the President’s signature. "Specifically, the provision appears to impose coercive restrictions on states, prohibiting them from “directly or indirectly” taking actions that would “reduce net revenue” if the states receive even a dime of federal State Fiscal Recovery Funds. Furthermore, this prohibition may apply for a period that extends through December 31, 2024. We have heard from many stakeholders concerned about the apparent breadth of this provision, which was included in ARP without the benefit of committee hearings, a legislative markup, or any
input from affected stakeholders." Rep. Brady issued a joint statement with the Senator Mike Crapo (R-ID), the top Republican on the Senate Finance Committee: “The response to concerns raised by the state Attorneys General or in our letters has so far been entirely inadequate. As states make important fiscal decisions about how to crush the virus and help businesses and workers, there can be no room for confusion about this unconstitutional law that a l l o w s Wa s h i n g t o n t o intimidate states into a tax relief ban for the next three years. Treasury must provide prompt and clear guidance to avoid undermining states’ authority to design their own tax system.” Twenty-one state Attorneys General raised their concerns about the issue in a March 16 letter, and Ohio’s Attorney General has filed a lawsuit.

Devotional God’s Greatest Gift To All - Presented By His Son Spreading the Word
By Gail J. Box Gailbox@consolidated.net
God had a great plan for all people in the beginning of our world. Then many, many, years later, at the right time, He sent His only Son to intervene for all people – past, present, and future in order for us to attain a forever life in heaven. Yes, He sent His only Son. The book of John explains it this way:
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.” John 1:1-5. It’s time for us to celebrate the gift God sent us, as we have Resurrec-

Jesus knew about the plan as He grew up and had many experiences in the Galilee area: “He was in the world, and the world was made through Him. He came to His own, and those who were His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of G o d … a n d t h e Wo r d became flesh and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only
begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1:10a, 11, 12a, 14. As Jesus walked through His country, through Jerusalem and the Galilee area, He talked of many situations (called Parables) and of how the people should react to show everyone the love of the Father for them. Many times He had to stop, pray, and heal those who needed His touch. For all the good and glorious things He did while here on earth, He was put to death by the most terrible way the

Romans could devise at that time – hanging on a cross until dead. But death couldn’t hold Him there! In three days, he appeared back on earth. He knew He had been obedient to His Father, God, and He had given His whole life so that each person who would believe in His sinless life could be saved by the grace of God. So, as we recognize Jesus’s death on Friday, or as some call it “black Friday,” for the way He was treated and hung on a cross, then we can celebrate His life in
obedience to the Father because in three days, He was resurrected and appeared to many at that time. Here is a short synopsis of the powerful story of Jesus’ life and death: “He made each star and galaxy. His birth fulfilled each prophecy. His power made the blind to see. His sacrifice set people free. His resurrection proved to be the turning point of history.” Hallelujah! Christ is risen!

Garbage on the Roads In Montgomery County? Lady Bird Johnson, who was in charge of a beautify America campaign in the 1960's, must be spinning in her grave, given the amount of trash along the roads, in this state; or at least, in Montgomery
County. I live in Walden, which is a showplace, but outside of Walden, it is another story. Debris, left over from crashes, and trash tossed alongside the pavement, makes this county look like a slum.
I moved here from Northern New Jersey, and those roads are a lot cleaner, Photos and comments by Thomas Moorhead
