Community Event Of The Annual Weekly Gas Prices Texas Historical Flags Raising, at The Texas Flags Plaza Park In Conroe (October 12, 2020) Texas gas prices have risen 0.7 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $1.87/g today, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 13,114 stations. Gas prices in Texas are 1.3 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and stand 42.3 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Texas is priced at $1.49/g today while the most expensive is $2.69/g, a difference of $1.20/g. The lowest price in the state today is $1.49/g while the highest is $2.69/g, a difference of $1.20/g. The national average price of gasoline has fallen 1.1 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $ 2 . 1 6 / g t o d a y. T h e national average is down 1.8 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 47.2 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. Neighboring areas and their current gas prices: Midland Odessa$1.98/g, down 3.0 cents per gallon from last week's $2.01/g. San Antonio- $1.71/g, down 2.4 cents per gallon from last week's $1.74/g. Austin- $1.79/g, down 2.8 cents per gallon from last week's $1.82/g. “Average gasoline prices largely remain rangebound as the tug of war between market forces continues to keep prices confined near current levels," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy. "On one side, the coronavirus situation would be pulling prices down as year-to-date gasoline demand stands some 13% lower than last year, but on the positive side is the possibility of economic stimulus that could boost households ahead of the election if the two parties can manage to agree. For now, with little action on either issue, oil markets are seeing a good amount of speculation and seesawing, and that will continue until we have a clear answer on whether Washington will deliver more economic aid to hard hit Americans."

New Tomball Residents

By Cheryl Conley, TWRC Wildlife Center A pair of beautiful bald eagles are now calling Tomball, Texas, home and they’ve become quite the attraction. People are coming from miles around just to get a glimpse of them and to snap a photo. Should you decide to come and take a look, remember to keep your distance and do not disturb the birds in any way. Bald eagles are protected by multiple federal laws that include the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act, the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, the

Lacey Act as well as other state and municipal protections that may be in place. The Eagle Act was originally passed in 1940 and was amended in 1972, increasing civil penalties. The Act provides criminal penalties for persons who "take, possess, sell, purchase, barter, offer to sell, purchase or barter, transport, export or import, at any time or any manner, any bald eagle ... [or any golden eagle], alive or dead, or any part*, nest, or egg thereof." The Act defines "take" as "pursue, shoot, shoot at, poison, wound, kill, capture, trap, collect, molest or

disturb." “Disturb" means: “to agitate or bother a bald or golden eagle to a degree that causes, or is likely to cause, based on the best scientific information available, 1) injury to an eagle, 2) a decrease i n i t s p r o d u c t i v i t y, b y substantially interfering with normal breeding, feeding, or sheltering behavior, or 3) nest abandonment, by substantially interfering with normal breeding, feeding, or sheltering behavior." Here are some interesting facts about Bald Eagles: * They have been our

national symbol since 1782. * They are almost always found near water. * They live to be between 20 and 30 years old. The oldest recorded bald eagle was 38. * Their wingspan is between 6 feet and 7.5 feet. * Females are larger than males. * They can see 4 to 7 times better than humans. * They can see fish up to a mile away. * They mate for life but should one of the pair die, the

Texans Show Up to Governor’s Mansion to Protest Abbott’s Shutdowns “I want the rest of the nation to know we do not want a President Abbott.” –Julie McCarty B y B r a n d o n Waltens|October 10, 2020 On a sunny Saturday in Austin, the streets surrounding the Governor’s Mansion were filled with the chants of hundreds of Texans from across the state, who gathered together with one simple message for Gov. Greg Abbott: “Free Texas Now!” The protest, organized by “the still somewhat free citizens of Texas,” drew hundreds of attendees from c o n s e r v a t i v e organizations—such as True Texas Project, the Fredericksburg Tea Party, and others—as well as individuals who caught wind of the event and wanted to make their voices heard. Though Abbott has received increasing opposition from everyday Texans for his unilateral string of shutdowns and mandates in response to the Chinese coronavirus, speakers at this event included elected officials i n h i s o w n party—Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller, State Sen. Bob Hall (Edgewood) and Republican Party of Texas Chairman Allen West. Though Miller said he believed Abbott had acted with good intentions, he railed against Abbott’s mandates and sided with the protestors at the event. “ Q u i t e f r a n k l y, governor, your cure is worse than the disease,” Miller said, while facing the front door of the mansion. West, who has been vocal in his support of grassroots opposition to the shutdowns even after being elected chairman of the Texas GOP in July, told the crowd he had received an email from the chairman of the Brazos County Republican Party earlier in the week asking him why he would protest the Republican governor right before voting begins in the November election. “True leaders don’t pick and choose when to do what is right,” replied West. “They do what is right all the time.” West also read aloud a resolution passed recently by the State Republican Executive Committee urging Abbott to lift all the coronavirus restrictions and open Texas. “If the governor did not get this resolution, I’m gonna leave it right here, at the gate of the Governor’s Mansion,” West added. Other speakers included former State Rep. Matt Rinaldi, former State Sen. Don Huffines, and See Abbott, page 4

Suggestions For Mindful Eating: BBQ Shrimp Food for Thought Diana Anderson

DianaCAnderson@ gmail.com

One of the easiest of the Crescent City's classic recipes -- one that wows folks in restaurants and at home -- is New Orleansstyle barbecue shrimp. The dish made famous by Pascal’s Manale on Napoleon Avenue has since been adapted by chefs – and home cooks – who’ve stretched the creative limits of the basic concept: Fresh Gulf shrimp poached in a spicy, buttery sauce. Newcomers to town need an explanation because these “barbecued” shrimp are not slowcooked, grilled, dry-rubbed

or soaked in marinade. Often, they may look like they are swimming in a brown barbecue sauce, but they don’t taste that way. Even though New Orleans has made this dish a city-wide staple it did not originate there but rather in the mid-west. The TimesPicayune described the origins this way, “Just a few decades ago, the recipe for the spicy baked shrimp dish was given by a visiting Chicagoan to the late Pascal Radosta. It was a runaway success at Pascal's Manale, the Uptown restaurant that Radosta operated with his uncle, Frank Manale. And it has since become a staple on seafood-house menus all over town.” "There's a reason this recipe has not changed since 1954. Pure heaven in

Heat a large skillet Ingredients: over medium-high heat. Add the olive oil, shallot 1 tablespoon extra- and garlic. Cook, stirring virgin olive oil often with a wooden spoon, 1 large shallot, minced until the shallots are soft 3 cloves garlic, peeled and fragrant, about 2 and chopped minutes. Add the lemon 1/2 large lemon, sliced slices and cook until they a dish” the restaurant’s website notes. Pascal's Manale, which is owned by the fourthgeneration family and has been serving the dish for 63 years, won't reveal its exact recipe for the dish but the recipe below comes very close. Try making barbecue shrimp for an indulgent weeknight meal. It can be ready in minutes. Just don’t forget the bib. If you don’t have jumbo shrimp, just increase the number of shrimps added to the pot.

begin to brown, about 1 minute longer, then stir in the shrimp, paprika, thyme, black pepper and salt. Add the Worcestershire sauce and 3 tablespoons water and bring the liquid to a simmer. 2. Cook, stirring often, until the shrimp are beginning to turn pink, about 2 minutes. Add the butter cubes and swirl the pan to combine. Allow the sauce to simmer until the shrimp are pink and just opaque all the way through, another 3 to 4 minutes, (less for smaller shrimp). Serve with lots of napkins and some crusty bread for sopping up the sauce. TIPS: If you want a do ahead meal, prepare the sauce in step 1 and marinate the shrimp in it until you are ready to eat. At that time simply

continue on to step 2. Do not overcook shrimp ... Serve with French bread for dipping If you are looking for an interesting way to have shrimp that isn’t boiled or fried try this recipe. Remember here’s also some concern about the use of antibiotics in shrimp. Larry Olmsted, author of Real Food, Fake Food, a book about food provenance and safety gives some good advice about shrimp. Shrimp is the most popular seafood in America, but much of it is farmed in Southeast Asia at facilities that are known to use banned antibiotics, says Olmsted. “If I buy shrimp, I get wild caught shrimp from the Gulf of Mexico,” he says.. Good news for us living so close to the Gulf.

Comments According to Doc How to Know If You Should Speak Your Mind Walden Happenings By Doc Fennessy The opinions expressed in this editorial do not necessarily reflect those of MCN.

W A L D E N HAPPENINGS During this time of high intensity emotions, relative to the plague and coinciding with the election, raises the intensity of friendly conversations. Unfortunately, many conversations, relative to the informational aspects of the different political sides, can turn from a friendly conversation to a highly heated argument. At times, we look back into what appeared to be friendly conversations in the beginning, that key words turn it into damaging of long-term friendships. In the following article by Amaya Pryce published on October 4, 2020 in the Sunday Family Humour review, she offers some very interesting introspect advice to preparing and controlling your interactive relations and conversations relative to the controversial aspects of topics of political interest. This article is offered in hopes that possibly, numerous people will obtain some insight relative to controlling personal conversations with friends. The following topic: “How to Know If You Should Speak Your Mind,” written by Amaya Pryce are presented in her unabridged words. “ ‘Integrity isn’t a morality issue; it’s an energy issue.’ ~Gay Hendricks. One of the biggest questions I, and many other people I know, face as we go about our days is this: When is it worthwhile to speak our minds, and when should we keep our thoughts to ourselves? There are usually both good reasons and bad reasons for speaking out or remaining silent, so how do we know which is which? It all comes down to our own energy, and that is something we can learn how to discern. Integrity means a feeling of wholeness, or being of one piece. For me, the sensation of integrity is one of stillness and calm inside. When I’m upset by something (out of integrity) I feel a

buzzing, restless energy in my body, as my thoughts race around and around, thinking about what happened and what I want to say back. This is not the time to say something! So the first rule of thumb in most situations is: 1. WAIT UNTIL YOU FEEL CLEAR. Unless you or someone else is in imminent danger, your first reaction will probably do more harm than good, because your energy is so swirled up you can’t see what’s really there. Usually I love old sayings and aphorisms for the wisdom they contain, but there is one that I vehemently disagree with: Don’t let the sun go down on your anger. Honestly, in nine cases out of ten, the better advice is: Sleep on it. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone to bed angry and in the morning could hardly remember what the fuss was about. When your energy is swirled up and agitated, it’s like a muddy pool that needs time to settle. Once it’s clear again, you can see if there’s still something there that needs to be cleaned out. The ego (your “small self”) is always on the defensive and ready to over-react when it senses a threat. You can be sure that your ego is activated when you feel that urge to lash out and say potentially hurtful things. It’s only trying to protect you, but often the damage it does to relationships (and your own well-being) is lasting. This is why my second rule of thumb is another aphorism: 2. “LEAST SAID, SOONEST MENDED.” You can’t un-say or unwrite something you have said or written (once you’ve sent it), so err on the side of caution. Don Miguel Ruíz, in The Four Agreements, says that we need to be “impeccable” with our words, because they are essentially like magic spells we cast, with power to do both good and evil. In my experience, the ego tends to over-explain and over-justify. There are many reasons for this: maybe you want to show how much you were hurt by what the other person did, maybe you want to elicit an apology or an admission that you were right, maybe you’re taking advantage of the

current situation to bring up old grievances with that person (or give voice to free-floating anger that isn’t even related to them!). T h e k e y here—again—is to pay close attention to your own energy. Often we begin a conversation with calm energy and the best of intentions, but then find it spiraling out of control. When you feel a tightening in your chest, or your breath coming faster, or your voice rising a bit in volume, it’s time to back down. This is a tricky place, because it’s tempting to keep barreling forward. Sometimes you can calm your energy enough by simply slowing your speech and breathing way down, taking long pauses, and focusing your attention in a soft way on the other person. (We tend to get blinders on when our energy is swirled up.) Say less than you think you should. This is particularly helpful when dealing with a narcissist, who will try to use your words against you or argue you out of your feelings. If you have to walk away, try not to do it as a punishment or rejection or manipulation of the other person—simply admit that you’re having a hard time keeping your own energy in control and commit to returning when you feel clear again. This isn’t to say that you can’t express strong feelings when necessary. Ironically, you will be far more forceful and effective in conveying them when your energy is clear. Some people, especially women who have been encouraged to always hide or deny their anger, feel that they “need” to lose control in order to confront someone else. Unfortunately, this almost always backfires and doesn’t produce real change. The sad truth is that when you lose control of yourself, you turn your power over to someone else. So let’s re-orient for a moment: What does it feel like when your energy is “clear?” Remember, we called this a feeling of integrity or wholeness. It’s a feeling of being solid and grounded in your truth. (Notice that I didn’t say the truth: We can never really know what the truth is for another

person, but we are always on solid ground when we speak our own truth.) Because the small self is so pesky and persistent in muddying up the waters, my third guideline for speaking up is: 3. CHECK YOUR BAGGAGE AT THE DOOR. I really had to use this rule recently when I confronted my sister about her new boyfriend. I waited quite a while to see if what I was sensing was truly something that needed saying or was simply my own ego being sad that it was “losing” something important (my sister’s time and attention). It’s easy to fool yourself that you’re acting altruistically, when in reality your main motivation is your own perceived wants and needs. In reality, these hidden agendas (and our underlying energy) usually speak quite loudly! People pick up on them, consciously or unconsciously, and they only weaken our arguments and put others on the defensive. On the other hand, when we speak from a clear and grounded place, that energy is read as well, and it allows the other person to hear even very sensitive and raw communications with an open heart. One way to check for hidden agendas is to ask yourself: What outcome am I hoping to achieve by speaking up? This turned out to be an

important distinction for me. When I first thought about talking with A., my motivation was to convince her to break up with the guy. (That would have made me happy.) As I sat with the situation for a while, I realized that she truly had the right to her own opinion, and that she might have viable reasons for continuing the relationship. When I ultimately did speak with her, I acknowledged that and didn’t try to “convince” her to follow my advice. I simply told her my fears and observations and left it there. But what made me think I should say anything in the first place? That brings me to my final guideline: 4. DON’T IGNORE YOUR GUT. As easy as it is to get into trouble by speaking up when we shouldn’t, it’s equally tempting to squash our instincts to say something if we think it will be awkward, unwelcome, or “pointless” to do so. This comes down to energy as well. Sometimes when we choose to wait, our energy clears and the situation resolves by itself. (Yay!) Sometimes, we continue to feel upset or to ruminate about the situation. This is the time to check our own baggage. We have to carefully and honestly assess how much of our upset feelings are due to our own issues, and deal with them first. If you

have done this honestly and you’re still troubled, that is the time to speak up. In the case of my sister, aside from my personal sadness, I truly felt that she was getting in over her head with a narcissist. This put me in a bind, because every time she would talk to me about him, I felt inauthentic and upset for hiding my true feelings. After we spoke, my energetic quandary was resolved, even though the situation remained the same. She chose to stay with him but promised to be careful and go slowly. I no longer had to hide my feelings (which was a relief), but I also gave up trying to change her behavior and worked on my own issues about the situation instead. Learning how to understand and monitor my own energetic integrity has helped me in all aspects of life, beyond just communication (although that’s pretty important!). Deciding whether to speak or not to speak, and what to say when we do, is an ongoing issue throughout every day, and energy is the key to communication that truly achieves what we want it to achieve, with the least potential for harm.

The Joint Planning Process: GMAs and DFCs 9 Factors You Didn't Know You Needed To Know October 9, 2020 - So far in our educational press release series, we have covered a wide range of topics but for this release, we want to pick up where we left off - talking about the joint planning process and digging a bit deeper into Desired Future Conditions or DFCs. Specifically, we want to cover the factors that the voting groundwater conservation districts (GCDs) within a groundwater management area (GMA) must consider when determining DFCs. If you remember, DFCs are what the GCDs within a

GMA want the aquifers in their areas to look like at a specific time in the future a goal, a desire or a target that can be quantified and measured. But how do the GCDs determine which DFC is the best for their area? The process requires the consideration of 9 factors: 1. Aquifer uses or conditions; 2. Water supply needs and strategies from the state water plan; 3. Hydrological conditions for each aquifer; 4. Other environmental

impacts (e.g., impacts on spring flows and surface water and groundwater interactions); 5. Impacts on subsidence; 6. Socioeconomic impacts; 7. Private property rights; 8. Feasibility of achieving the DFC; and 9. Any other information relevant to the DFC The voting GCDs must consider each of these factors before voting on a proposed DFC. The statute does not dictate what importance or how much weight each factor should receive in the process. However, the only factor that receives constitutional protection (under the federal and state law) is private property rights. The statute requires the DFC to reflect a balance between the highest practicable level of groundwater production and the conservation and protection of groundwater as well as control of subsidence. Aquifer Uses or Conditions How does a GCD consider the aquifer uses or conditions? The GCDs within the GMA must look at a lot of data - for all of the counties within the GMA. Included in the dataset could be well depths for wells throughout the GMA planning area and the GCDs could also look at the information by individual county. The GCDs might also review the specific well yields, and annual pumping by aquifer layer on a countyby-county basis as well as GMA-wide. And the GCDs will also likely look at the annual pumping by type of use, such as irrigation, municipal, manufacturing, livestock, and mining. Water Supply Needs and Strategies from the State Water Plan The second factor GCDs must consider are the water supply needs and strategies from the state water plan. The needs and strategies taken from the state water plan come from the regional water planning groups. These groups gather data from a wide range of water supply entities in the planning area. The data that goes into the state water plan includes a summary of demands, supplies and needs. A key component of the planning process is to estimate future demands. Future water demands are estimated by considering the historical demands and projected growth within each county - this includes reviewing census data, employment growth from the Texas Workforce Commission, and the demands for power generation, mining, and irrigation. After future demands are estimated, future needs are estimated by comparing the demands to available supplies. Future needs are then met by developing water supply strategies that make up the State Water Plan. The needs and strategies from the state water plan are a consideration when determining DFCs. Hydrological Conditions for Each Aquifer Another very important factor that must be considered is the hydrologic conditions for each aquifer in the GMA. Typically, this information is presented to the GMA by

a technical consultant and helps stakeholders understand how the aquifers work. The consultant might present aquifer cross-sections using a range of well sites drilled into the specific aquifer formation trying to "connect the dots" as to how an aquifer's water producing formations can vary throughout an aquifer a n d e v e n a c o u n t y. Hydrologic factors may include a review of the management area's total estimated recoverable storage (TERS) which is an estimate of the total estimated amount of groundwater within an aquifer that can be recovered. This volume is estimated by the TWDB using a simple formula ranging anywhere from 2575% of the aquifer volume. Reports of GCD water budgets including annual recharge, lateral inflows and outflows, and discharge are also considered. These water budgets are generally estimated with a groundwater availability model or GAM. Impacts on Subsidence Subsidence is yet another important factor that must be considered by the GCDs. In some areas of the state, subsidence (the lowering or sinking of the land surface) can occur. Research has shown that excessive groundwater withdrawals have the potential to cause subsidence. It's important for GCDs to review and consider whether subsidence is an issue in their areas because when and if subsidence occurs it cannot be undone. Lone Star has committed to study whether subsidence is occurring within Montgomery County and if so, to what degree and what are the contributing factors. Chapter 36 requires the GCDs within a GMA to consider the impacts on subsidence when determining their desired aquifer conditions. Notably, the statute does not require the GCDs to select a desired aquifer condition that will prevent or stop subsidence. On the other hand, subsidence districts have a statutory mandate to end or stop subsidence. GCDs are required only to consider the impact the desired aquifer condition may have on subsidence, which is consistent with a GCD's requirement to adopt rules that help control subsidence. Because aquifers do not begin and end at county lines, effects from production occurring within surrounding counties can be felt in neighboring counties. Socioeconomic Impacts Socioeconomic impacts may include the costs incurred to maintain or replace well capacity as a result of additional groundwater pumping. Well owners and operators generally expect that over time expenses will be incurred to maintain or replace well capacity. The fact that an owner may incur these expenses does not necessarily mean that groundwater pumping should be restricted particularly when restricting pumping does not adequately protect property rights. Although socioeconomic impacts are

a consideration, spending money to keep your system productive and efficient, unlike property rights, is not a constitutionally protected interest. While rising costs are unfortunate, they are anticipated. Private Property Rights Per section 36.0015 of the Texas Water Code, GCDs were created to: (i) protect property rights, (ii) balance the conservation and development of groundwater to meet the state's needs, and (iii) use the best available science in the conservation and development of rules. Unlike the protection of private property rights, the protection of socioeconomic impacts is not one of the purposes of a GCD in section 36.0015 nor is it a constitutionally protected right. So, when conducting the 9-factor test to determine a DFC, GCDs should be cognizant that only one of the 9 factors is protected by the constitution from being taken without just compensation. When regulation goes too far in restricting the use of property or eliminating all practical use of property, a takings can occur. Lone Star's Board of Directors believes that, because property rights are protected by the Texas and U.S. Constitutions and protection of property rights is one of a GCD's main purpose, property rights should be given the most weight or consideration in the 9-factor analysis. Feasibility of Achieving DFC The feasibility of achieving the DFC is assessed in two areas. First, by quantitatively evaluating if it is physically possible to achieve the hydrologic conditions set forth in the DFC statement. This could be a certain amount of drawdown, or spring flow volume during a drought, or a volume of groundwater remaining in the aquifer at a time in the future. Determining the physical achievability of a DFC is generally evaluated with a historical data assessment or a predictive model to simulate future conditions in the aquifer. The second component of achieving the DFC is to assess the ability of the GCDs to implement rules and a management plan to ensure that the DFC can be met through the tools available to the GCDs in the GMA. Any Other Relevant Information This factor covers any other data and considerations that are not specifically identified in the other eight factors. The MAG - How It's Calculated and What It Means After final adoption of a DFC, the TWDB executive administrator is responsible for calculating a M o d e l e d Av a i l a b l e Groundwater, or MAG. The MAG is the estimate of the total annual pumping from an aquifer that is possible to achieve the DFC in the future. The MAG is not a cap on permitting or pumping in a given year. It is just TWDB's best estimate of pumping based on a set of assumptions, conditions, and a predictive model of the aquifer. Where a GAM is available, it is generally used to estimate the MAG.

If a GAM (Groundwater Availability Model) is not available, the TWDB will use some other quantitative tool to estimate the MAG, such as an analytical model or historic data. The Modeled Available Groundwater is not a pumping cap and is one of several factors a district considers when managing the aquifer long-term. A GCD is required to manage to achieve the DFC, but not the MAG. Permitted amounts do not necessarily equal produced amounts. GCDs can issue permits in a volume that exceeds the modeled available groundwater so long as the GCD ultimately achieves the desired conditions at the end of the selected time period, which is usually a 50 to 60-year time period. This time period is usually selected to be consistent with the planning horizon for the state water plan. Desired Future Conditions and Modeled Available Groundwater numbers are useful planning tools that help the GCDs, regional water planning groups, and water utilities plan for future water supplies. What Is the Status of GMA 14 Joint Planning? GMA 14 is in the middle of round three of joint planning and discussions of the required 9-factors. The joint planning group will have a proposed DFC in May 2021 and a final DFC in January 2022. Lone Star GCD has made requests for model scenarios based on data, science and key stakeholder involvement and support. The District's request for GMA 14 to consider Desired Future Conditions that would allow for development of additional groundwater resources is based on the results of the Strategic Water Planning Study, which revealed that additional production would not cause unreasonable impacts. A number of large stakeholders within Montgomery County helped develop Run D as part of the strategic study. These stakeholders studied the potential water level declines associated with the increased production in Run D and supported the implementation of additional groundwater production despite the potential impacts. While Run D is not one of the three scenarios the GMA 14 GCDs are considering during round three, there is at least one scenario that would yield a MAG consistent with Run D. Next week we will bring the joint planning process portion of the series to a close by discussing how joint planning can affect the District's rules, specifically the potential for proportional adjustments and/or management zones. A copy of the approved District Rules, a summary of the amendments and Frequently Asked Questions on the new rules can be found on the District's Management & Rules page. Devotional Praises, Gratitude, and Happiness with our Friends Spreading the Word

By Gail J. Box Gailbox@consolidated.net

I think this song, “What A Friend We Have In Jesus” has to be one of the first hymns I learned in church. They are beautiful words with comforting thoughts. It’s true. Even if all our friends leave, still we have One who remains – always. Jesus not only showed us how to live, He showed us how to love and treat others and consider them more important than

ourselves. Not long ago, my grandson had to take a test concerning a job he wanted to secure. He wasn’t sure how he would do on the test. So I told him to pray and study his notes, then read his Bible. I said, “The Bible holds all the wisdom you’ll ever need for living on earth.” He did that, and passed his test very well. I read in the Bible of God and Jesus’ words that can carry us all through our life with love, concern, and help for all our problems. Those words are like water in the desert, a life boat in deep water, protection in an underground bunker in storms,

and a way out of coming fires. And Jesus, our true friend, is with us through it all. The best thing we can do in any dangerous situation is to call out to our friend, Jesus, and pray in His name. I’ve heard many stories about little older ladies who were confronted by men who wanted to do them harm. The thief wasn’t successful because the little lady who, at gunpoint, would begin talking about Jesus and speaking out God’s word to them. I can’t help but walk around with an “attitude of gratitude,” for the many times God has saved my

life. And Jesus has also saved the life of my husband, twice, recently! The doctors were sure they had found “something” terribly wrong. One was possible cancer, and the other, a clogged artery from his foot to his heart. So he took all their tests and they found nothing wrong. That caused him to be very happy that God and Jesus were his two best friends! Here is what Jesus tells His disciples about friendship: “Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his f r i e n d s . Yo u a r e M y friends if you do what I command you. You did

not choose Me, but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain, so that whatever you ask of the Father in My name, He may give to you. This I command you, that you love one another.” John 15: '13, 14, 16, 17. ( * Side note: Continue reading to verse 27.) Is it not absolutely wonderful and aweinspiring that God and Jesus both want us to be their friend? I’m talking about the God who created the whole universe (and us!) and His Son, who gave up His life in heaven to come here and live,

walk, and preach on dusty roads, mountains, and by the Sea of Galilee. This same God wants to have fellowship with us as He did with Adam in the Garden of Eden. Not only that, He and Jesus like to have conversations with us in and out of prayer times. I love to sing songs to my Heavenly Father and His Son. Who knows? I may be joining with the angels as they sing praises, also. As this scripture tells us: “Praise the Lord! For it is good to sing praises to our God; for it is pleasant and praise is becoming.’’ Psalm 147: 1.

The EDP Annual Meeting was held virtually in August where Jim Calvetti, Immediate Past Chairman and Chairman of the Nominating Committee, with Calvetti Ferguson announced the newly appointed officers and board members for the 2020-2021 term. The outgoing 2019-2020 board members were recognized for their contributions, Jim Calvetti, Calvetti Ferguson; Dan Michalk, Waterway Wealth Management and Judy Olson, Spirit of Texas Bank. Gil Staley, CEO, provided an organizational overview of accomplishments for the past fiscal year. The virtual meeting concluded with an awards presentation for the 2019-2020 officers and a special recognition to Don Norrell, President and General Manager of The Woodlands Township, on his upcoming retirement. “While it was unusual to present our annual report virtually, it was well received by our Partners. It was especially nice to follow our virtual meeting with an end-of-

year celebration at The Club at Carlton Woods. The excellent attendance confirmed that our members enjoyed the time to reconnect and network while following safety protocols” said Gil Staley, Chief Executive Officer of the EDP.
