Texas Montgomery County Sheriff’s Houston VA Selected Weekly Department Completes Third as One of Gas Prices (December 14, 2020) Texas gas prices have risen 0.5 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $1.85/g t o d a y, a c c o r d i n g t o GasBuddy's daily survey of 13,114 stations. Gas prices in Texas are 5.4 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand 36.6 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Texas is priced at $1.45/g today while the most expensive is $2.69/g, a difference of $1.24/g. The lowest price in the state today is $1.45/g while the highest is $2.69/g, a difference of $1.24/g. The national average price of gasoline has fallen 0.7 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $2.14/g today. The national average is up 1.4 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 41.4 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. Neighboring areas and their current gas prices: Midland Odessa$1.95/g, unchanged from last week's $1.95/g. San Antonio- $1.73/g, down 2.0 cents per gallon from last week's $1.75/g. Austin- $1.79/g, down 0.7 cents per gallon from last week's $1.79/g. "After gas prices spiked last week in their biggest weekly rise since August, we've seen them cool back down for the time being. With COVID-19 cases continuing to rise and restrictions weighing on gasoline demand, we're likely to see optimism over vaccinations offset by lower current demand for the most part," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy. "In the weeks ahead as that balance shifts and millions get the vaccination, if things look much improved, I would expect for a longer upward move in gas prices. For now, however, the holidays will be marked by the lowest seasonal prices in years." GasBuddy is the authoritative voice for gas prices and the only source for station-level data spanning nearly two decades. Unlike AAA's once daily survey covering credit card transactions at 100,000 stations and the Lundberg Survey, updated once every two weeks based on 7,000 gas stations, GasBuddy's survey updates 288 times every day from the most diverse list of sources covering nearly 150,000 stations nationwide, the most comprehensive and up-to-date in the country. Suggestions For Mindful Eating: Food for Thought
Christmas Dinner
Diana Anderson
DianaCAnderson@ gmail.com
T u r k e y f o r Thanksgiving is a given but when it comes to Christmas the main course is a little more flexible. Many people, I’m sure, have their standard traditions but there are a lot of us who vary the meal from year to year. In pondering what I am going to put on my own table this I came across a few interesting recipes to share. Although there were murmurs of lasagna and tamales, I decided to keep it traditional and focused on turkey and beef. The trick was to find something traditional but not boring. I didn’t want a repeat of our Thanksgiving meal but didn’t want to rule out turkey. Similarly, beef is always a crowd pleaser but I wanted to do something that would make it a bit festive. With that in mind I found two different recipes that cover those bases plus more - there is quite a bit for each that can be done ahead of time. Beautiful. Turkey Roulade For this dish you will use a turkey breast only that you butterfly so it lays relatively flat then you spread seasoning/filling over it and roll it up, tie it with twine and bake. So
familiar and yet so different. The variation is the type of filling you spread. I have seen it with an herb/onion seasoning layered with prosciutto and also with a bread (cornbread) stuffing. I’ll include both. When you slice the finished product, it has a lovely swirl like a jellyroll.
You will need 1 whole butterflied boneless turkey breast (a 56 pound will yield 8-10 servings, so adjust accordingly) Spread the turkey breast out on a cutting board, skinside down. Sprinkle the meat with 2 teaspoons salt and 1 1/2 teaspoons pepper. Spread with the filling of your choice. For the nonbread mixture option use about 11/2 cups of sautéed onions mixed with ¾ t. whole fennel, 2 T. minced garlic and 1 T. each of chopped sage and rosemary. Next, layer about 4 T. of cold butter grated with a box grater over the filling and cover with about 4 ounces of sliced prosciutto over the filling. Starting at the left side of the turkey breast, roll the meat up jelly-roll This second dish is style to make a compact similar to the roulade – in a cylindrical roulade, ending way. You take a tenderloin

with the seam side down and the skin side up. Tie the roulade with kitchen twine at 1 1/2- to 2-inch intervals as tightly as possible to ensure that it will roast evenly. Slip whole sage leaves underneath each tie of the twine down the center of the roulade. Note if you do not have kitchen twine dental floss can be used. This is where you can prepare to the night before then day of place the turkey roulade, seam side down, in the roasting pan. Pat the skin dry with paper towels, brush the skin all over with 2 tablespoons olive oil, and sprinkle with 1 teaspoon salt and 1/2 teaspoon pepper. Pour 1 cup white wine and 1 cup of water in the roasting pan (not over the turkey) and roast for between 1 1/2 and 1 3/4 hours, until the skin is golden brown and the internal temperature is 150 degrees F. (This depends on how large the turkey breast is.) Remove from the oven, cover with foil, and allow to rest for 15 minutes. Slice in 1/2-inch-thick slices and serve warm with the pan juices. Make the spread by chopping all the ingredients finely either by hand or in a food processor and sauteing in the butter/olive oil mixture for about 8 minutes. Dry well with paper towels. Drizzle the meat with olive oil then salt and pepper the tenderloin. Sear it on all sides in a heavy bottom pan lightly coated with olive oil. Rub all over with Dijon mustard. overnight. Pre-heat oven to 425 degrees. On a lightly floured surface, roll the puff pastry out to about a 1/4-inch thickness. Depending on the size of your sheets you may have to overlap 2 sheets and press them together. Remove beef from refrigerator and cut off plastic. Set the beef in the center of the pastry and fold over the longer sides, brushing with egg wash to seal. Trim ends if necessary, then brush with egg wash and fold over to completely seal the beef - saving ends to use as a decoration on top if desired. Top with coarse sea salt. Place the beef seam side down on a rimmed baking sheet. Brush the top of the pastry with egg wash then make a couple of slits in the top of the pastry using the tip of a paring knife ¿ this creates vents that will allow the steam to escape when cooking. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes until pastry is golden brown and beef registers 125 degrees F on an instant-read thermometer. Remove from oven and rest before cutting into thick slices.

The Origin, Meaning and Words to “…….The Twelve days of Christmas”
Walden Happenings By Doc Fennessy The opinions expressed in this editorial do not necessarily reflect those of MCN.
W A L D E N HAPPENINGS Folks, Two common forms of modern folklore are claims that familiar old bits of rhyme and song (such as the nursery rhyme (“Ring Around the Rosie”) encode “hidden meanings” which have been passed along for centuries, and claims that common objects of secular origin particularly objects associated with Christmas (such as the “candy cane)” were deliberately created to embody symbols of Christian faith. In the 14th century, in England, the Romans had invaded the country and spread the Roman Catholic faith as they did with St. Patrick in Ireland. King Henry the VIII divorced the Queen and the Pope in

Rome excommunicated him (he was kicked out of the Roman Catholic Faith). The King married again and formed the Church of England and outlawed the Catholic Church and anyone practicing the faith under the penalty of death. Here we have an article that combines both these forms and posits that a mirthful Christmas festival song about romantic gift-giving actually originated as a coded Catholic catechism, that was sung to begin each lesson each day beginning with the twelfth day before Christmas which was used by persecuted Catholics. It began with the twelve items and rising up to the top thus forming a Christmas Tree. “The Twelve Days of Christmas” was written in England as one of the “catechism songs” to help young Catholics learn the tenets of their faith - a
memory. It was said, to be caught with anything in writing indicating adherence to the Catholic faith could not only get you imprisoned, it could get you hanged, or shortened by a head - or hanged, drawn and quartered, a rather peculiar and ghastly punishment. I'm not aware if it was ever practiced anywhere else. Hanging, drawing and quartering involved hanging a person by the neck until they had almost, but not quite, suffocated to death; then the party was taken down from the gallows, and disemboweled while still alive; and while the entrails were still lying on the street, where the executioners stomped all over them. The victim was tied to four large farm horses, and literally torn into five parts - one to each limb and the remaining torso. The song’s gifts are

hidden meanings to the teachings of the faith. The “ T R U E - L O V E ” m e ntioned in the song doesn't refer to an earthly suitor, it refers to GOD Himself. The “ME” who receives the presents refers to every baptized person. The partridge in a pear tree is Jesus Christ, the Son of GOD. In the song, Christ is symbolically presented as a mother partridge which feigns injury to decoy predators from her helpless nestlings, much in memory of the expression of Jesus Christ's sadness over the fate of Jerusalem: “Jerusalem! Jerusalem! How often would I have sheltered thee under my wings, as a hen does her chicks, but thou wouldst not have it so….” The other symbols mean the following which represent the true tenets of the Roman Catholic Religion:{2} Turtle Doves
= The Old and New Testaments. {3} French Hens = Faith, Hope and Charity, the Theological Virtues. {4} Calling Birds = the Four Gospels and/or the Four Evangelists. {5} Golden Rings = The first Five Books of the Old Testament, the Books of Moses,+ which gives the history of man's fall from grace. {6} Geese Alaying = the six days of creation. {7} Swans Aswimming = the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit, the seven sacraments. {8} Maids A-milking = the eight beatitudes, { 9} Ladies Dancing = the nine Fruits of the Holy Spirit. {10} Lords A-leaping = the ten commandments. {11} Pipers Piping = the eleven faithful apostles. and {12} Drummers Drumming = the twelve points of doctrine in the Apostle's Creed.
Traditionally, in many schools at the time the students would begin their Catechism lessons backwards with the 12th day before Christmas singing this song and continuing until Christmas Day. Therefore they would begin on the 12th day of the song as follows: “On the twelfth day of Christmas my true love sent to me: {12} Drummers Drumming. {111} Pipers Piping. {10} Lords a Leaping. {9} Ladies Dancing. {8} Maids a Milking. {7} Swans a Swimming. {6} Geese a Laying. {5} Golden Rings. {4} Calling Birds. {3} French Hens. {2} Tu r t l e D o v e s a n d a Partridge in a Pear Tree! From the bottom to the top created a pyramid representing a Christmas Tree with GOD at the top Nowadays we place the “North Star,” an angel or “The Star Of David.”
"This season the artists of CAL have also created 60 hand painted wooden ornaments that are priced at $10 each,” Roy said. “The sale of these ornaments benefit our Student Awards show in the spring.” In addition, the December Members Show is being unveiled with 24 works hanging in the gallery, with the opportunity for visitors to vote on their favorite for the Peoples Choice Award. going to pull down, it’s going to block, content, ‘that misleads people by alleging widespread fraud or errors change the outcome of the presidential election.’ They’re not even pretending anymore.” ON THE AMERICAN PEOPLE’S VIEWS ON THE ELECTION RESULTS “Reuters polling shows that 39 percent of the American people believe this election was rigged. That should make all of our hearts ache. That is not good for democracy when nearly half of Americans believe an election is rigged. Now, the members of this committee may have meaningful, substantive dispute about the extent of voter fraud, how widespread it is, what forms it comes in. When Jimmy Carter and James Baker formed a bipartisan commission to study voter fraud, they concluded it was a significant and serious problem that needed to be confronted, and last I checked, Democratic President Jimmy Carter is not some crazed right-wing nut job. And yet […] apparently, if you sat online and read the Carter Baker commission out loud, YouTube just might well block you.” ON BIG TECH’S L A C K O F ACCOUNTABILITY “Even if you happen to temporarily like the politics of Big Tech today, I ask my colleagues on the Democratic aisle, do you really want to submit total control of the public debate to a handful of Silicon Valley billionaires, modern day oligarchs? With money and power and no accountability? They are not elected by your voters. They are not elected by my voters. They’re not elected by anyone.” O N T H E IMPORTANCE OF FREE SPEECH “I am not asking you to
pull down liberal content. I’m not asking you to pull down socialists. I’m not asking you to pull down communists. I disagree with liberal content and socialists and communists, but I believe in free speech. It is only one side that is demanding of Big Tech that they censor the views they disagree with.” ON BIG TECH’S ABUSE OF SECTION 230 “The purpose [Section 230] served when these were nascent companies has long since passed, these are the most powerful companies on the face of the Earth and they feel zero accountability to any elected official. For all of us who care about free speech, that should worry us greatly. YouTube’s latest policy is ridiculous. And by the way, if they disagree with someone saying there’s widespread election fraud, there’s a mechanism for that, which is they can share their own views. You can counter it, you can say, I think this is all baloney. That’s fine. That’s called free speech, but simply exercising monopoly power to say the views that I don’t like shall disappear and have never existed, that should scare everyone.” Sen. Cruz has long warned that Big Tech censorship is “the single greatest threat to democracy.” As chairman of the Judiciary Committee’s
Subcommittee on The Constitution, Sen. Cruz is leading the fight in the Senate to hold Big Tech accountable to the American people. Read more about Sen. Cruz’s efforts to demand answers below: * Questioned the CEOs of Twitter and Facebook at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing. *Questioned the CEOs of Twitter, Facebook, and Google at a Senate Commerce Committee hearing. * Sent a letter last month to Twitter and Facebook re garding their blatant censorship of The New York Post’s reporting on corruption of Joe and Hunter Biden in China and Ukraine. * F o u g h t to subpoena both Twitter CEO, Jack Dorsey, and Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee on this political censorship and election interference. *Chaired multiple hearings with representat i v e s from Twitter, Facebook, and Google, where he raised his concerns about the technology companies engaging in a disturbing pattern of political censorship. *Heard testimony from Dennis Prager of PragerU, whose videos are routinely censored on

A recent WalletHub study named Texas the second most diverse state in the United States and one of the top states for racial and ethnic d i v e r s i t y, l i n g u i s t i c diversity, and industry diversity. BOTTOM LINE: Sen. Cruz believes America can and should look a lot more like Texas. That’s why his number one priority in the Senate has been fighting for more jobs and greater economic opportunity for Texans and all Americans. Sen. Cruz remains committed to advancing legislation that creates an environment where small businesses can prosper and expand, allowing more people to achieve the American Dream.

Devotional Dedication, Presentation, and The Flight faithfully in the temple night and day, came up to the family and began giving thanks to God, and continued to speak of Him to all those who were looking for the redemption of Jerusalem. After Jesus’ dedication, the family returned to Nazareth, their original home. Jesus continued to grow, and before He was two years old, the family had a visitation of some “wise men” who had learned of a Ruler that was to “shepherd My people, Israel.” So they had come to King Herod from the far east, to worship this new King. Then Herod’s men told him where the Messiah was to be born: “AND YOU, BETH-
LEHEM, LAND OF JUDAH, ARE BY NO MEANS LEAST AMONG THE LEADERS OF JUDAH; FOR OUT OF YOU SHALL COME FORTH A RULER WHO WILL SHEPHERD MY PEOPLE ISRAEL.” Matthew 2:6. So Herod found out the wise men had been led to follow the star in the east to find the “King of the Jews.” These men had been travelling a long time, and the star led them to Jesus’ home in Bethlehem. They had many others with them…camels and all, and had brought gifts to the King. Not knowing the future to quickly come, they brought gifts of great
value to Jesus’ family who would soon be leaving on a long journey to Egypt. These gifts were: gold, which the family would need to live on while in Egypt; then Frankincense, an oil needed to worship God with; and myrrh, good for relieving pain. After worshipping King Jesus, the men left quickly – not knowing the family had to suddenly leave because of Herod’s decree to kill all boy babies, from the age of two to birth. This tells how the wise men knew to leave: “And having been warned by God in a dream not to return to Herod, the magi quickly left for their country by another way. Matthew 2:12.
Right away, Joseph was warned by an angel of the Lord to gather the family and flee to Egypt where they remained until H e r o d ’s d e a t h . T h e y returned then and went to Nazareth, where they lived until Jesus’ death. And that was why He was called, a “Nazarene,” to fulfill previous scripture. We can see how God can speak to us in subtle ways to keep us safe. Our God remains the same in our life, also. As He was there, leading Jesus’ life, so He is there for each one of us. That’s just the beginning of our story, and of (history), meaning HisStory!
Wishing Away Your Life......
1 Tim 6:6 ~ Contentment only comes when we add godliness... Every season has a struggle, that you can’t see or know, until you're in it. The problem is, when we look at other people’s lives, we only see how high the tree goes, we don’t see how deep the roots are planted. You only see the fruit of what someone has, you don’t see the fight they went through to have it. Before time even began God made plans and purposes for your life, and if you understand the season you're in there is a satisfaction and contentment that knows, I might not have what they have, but that’s all right because I’m not called to do what they’re called to do. I'm going to glorify God in my season, and use the time I have left and the gifts God has given me, and I'm going to rejoice in my season and yield fruit in
my season. Is your season based on faith and trust in God? Do you believe God can make something beautiful of it? What are you saying about your current season? Because the truth is, what you say about your season determines how you will experience that season. In fact, your season will take on the characteristics of your description of that season. Every season is shaped by what you say. We said every season has struggles you can’t see. But every season also has strengths you can seize. When you get discontent in your season, you start wandering away from God's will because you think the season you're in is unbearable, And God says, I was calling for you, I prepared a table for you, I had some blessings for you, but when the right time came, you didn’t hear
me when I called, you wandered too far away. God is saying don’t wander away, stay close to me, because when it’s your time, you don’t want to miss your turn. When your turn comes, you want to be ready for it. Don’t miss your turn.
Spreading the Word
By Gail J. Box Gailbox@consolidated.net
The birth of Jesus was spectacular with angels singing and shepherds worshipping. So as soon as possible, Mary and Joseph found a small place in Bethlehem, but then travelled to the temple in Jerusalem to dedicate Jesus to the LORD. (Luke 2:2124). The Bible tells us that Simeon was a devout priest in the Temple who was filled with the Holy Spirit, who had told him that he would not see death before
he had seen the LORD’S Christ. Luke 2 26b. So this is what happened: “…then he (Simeon) took Him into his arms, and blessed God and said, ‘Now Lord, You are releasing Your bondservant to depart in peace, according to Your word; For my eyes have seen Your salvation, which You have prepared in the presence of all peoples, A L I G H T O F REVELATION TO THE GENTILES, and the glory of Your people Israel.” Luke 2:28-30. The Bible then states that Mary and Joseph were amazed at Simeon’s words. At the same time in the Temple, Anna, a prophetess and widow of many years who had served
by: Pastor Randy Weaver One of the questions I am asked most often is, “Why can’t I understand what God is doing in my life?” Is there some kind of secret to understanding what God is doing in my life? Well, if there is any secret to all this, it can be captured in one word...Seasons. All of us are in different seasons of our lives. In fact, has anyone ever told you “just enjoy the season you’re in?” Eccl 3:1 ~ There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens. Solomon writes about seasons, because the way that we experience all of life is in seasons. And it implies that God brings different seasons into our
lives, some that we wish we could stay in forever, and others that we wish we could skip completely. Eccl 3:11-12 ~ He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. God changes the times and seasons of your life. Whether you realize it or not, God schedules every season of your life, but He doesn’t post the schedule for you to see. No one can really see the big picture, except God. No one can understand all the seasons you go through, except God. Paul says, that from eternity, God has had a p u r p o s e t h a t ’s b e e n

working in your life. Your destiny was created in eternity, and God has a plan for it all, but your life is experienced in seasons. Everything that God wanted to do through your life, was decided before your life ever began. But you don’t experience everything that God intends for your life all at once, you experience it in phases and seasons. We're always waiting to get to the next season, because the next season always looks better. Every season has struggles that you can’t see from the outside looking in. And what God wants to do today, is to set us free from our discontentment in the season that we are now in.

Community Veteran of the Week Tom Hoyt, Lake Conroe, TX Toni Sperduti McGrew Contributing Columnist TonitheTGR@aol.com I recently attended an event sponsored by the Houston Realtors Association at the Honor Cafe in Conroe and I met this week's veteran, Tom Hoyt. Mr. Hoyt grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio. After graduating from Michigan State University with a bachelor of arts in communications and being in the ROTC, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lt in the Infantry. He soon detailed to the Army Security Agency, stationed with the 103rd USASA Detachment out of Orleans France. Orleans is a lovely town south of Paris that Joan of Arc famously saved from English siege in 1429. During the Cold War (1947 -1991) this area of Orleans was in the Communications Zone allowed by President de Gaulle and 2nd Lt. Hoyt was soon promoted to 1st Lt. in 1964. After serving two years in this specialty and going on Temporary Duty (TDY) to Vietnam to assist in their communications set up, 1st Lt. Hoyt received an Honorable Discharge in November 1964. As a civilian, Mr. Hoyt used his knowledge and leadership skills he gained through the Army to begin his radio broadcasting
career as a salesman in Columbus, Ohio. Mr. Hoyt then moved to Houston in 1973 to becomes the first general manager of KRBE FM 104 when Top 40 music format was installed. He was also general manager of KODA FM 99.1 when the name "Sunny" was added. We have all grown up with those stations! He worked with many well known radio personalities such as the famous Howard Stern. Mr. Hoyt soon began to travel the world working with Radio International consulting English language radio stations in Scandinavia, Moscow and St. Petersburg, Russia and lived in Beausoleil, France. Through his long career, Mr. Hoyt held executive positions in Chicago and Southern California, retiring as Sr. VP, CBS Radio. He moved to Houston in 2017 to be closer to son, daughter and their families. He recently moved near Lake Conroe after his new home was built and he is looking for new friends to enjoy life with. Many veterans have found that their leadership skills are often sought after in civilian life as Veterans can always be counted on.

Community Operation Christmas Child Celebrates Millions of Gift-Filled Shoeboxes Amidst a Pandemic Year Montgomery, Texas, Dec. 15, 2020 —Despite a global pandemic, millions of shoebox gifts for the Samaritan’s Purse project Operation Christmas Child were collected the week before Thanksgiving following a curbside dropoff model at more than 4,000 locations nationwide. Creativity, determination, and faith inspired many individuals, families,
churches, and groups to persevere in their efforts to pack shoeboxes amidst unprecedented challenges. Although official collection totals for Montgomery North TX Area Team and nationwide results are still being tallied, personal stories of exceeded goals and overwhelming success are pouring in from across the country. “Shoebox packers
overcame the challenges of this unprecedented year to generously donate gift-filled shoeboxes for children in need,” said Operation Christmas Child senior director Randy Riddle. “Now more than ever, boys and girls around the world need hope. We are excited to deliver millions of shoeboxes to children in Jesus’ Name—sharing God’s love and reminding

them that they are not alone.” This year, stories from across the country showcased God’s faithfulness. * In their first networkwide campaign, Tennesseebased network Family Radio inspired listeners to Build 411 Shoeboxes Online through story-telling and digital communication efforts. * The Light FM based in Asheville, N.C., launched a campaign to Build 500 Shoeboxes Online. Listeners sailed past the original goal. Ultimately, they rallied to reach 1,625 children! Promotions Manager Brian Fisher told Samaritan’s Purse, “We are celebrating! Our listeners are awesome, and it is a testament to how great the experience is that you all have provided to virtually pack a shoebox. Thank you all!” * Salvisa Baptist Church in Kentucky was seeing only 60 percent regular attendance and had to make COVID-related modifications to their packing strategy. Still, they managed to surpass their 2019 collection of 550 shoebox
gifts—collecting 700 shoebox gifts this year! They also donated $5,000 toward the critical ministry expenses associated with collection, sending, and equipping. * At one of Arizona’s oldest churches where just o v e r 1 0 0 p e o p l e w o rship—Burton Baptist in Linden—hopes to surpass last year’s 1,000 shoebox collection were met with an amazing total of 2,000 shoebox gifts this year. They also generously contributed the $9 per shoebox suggested donation. * First Baptist Blowing Rock, N.C.set out to pack 500 shoeboxes in 2020—a goal lower than their 2019 collection total. Then moved by faith, they increased their goal to 800 and packed 1,107 shoeboxes in the end. A socially distanced prayer service was held to pray for the next steps in the journey of the shoebox and for each child who would receive them. There’s still a way to participate for those who missed the collection week in November and are looking for a meaningful way to give
back this holiday season. Samaritan’s Purse offers a virtual shoebox packing tool called Build a Shoebox Online as a way to give boys and girls a tangible expression of God’s love through a gift-filled shoeboxes packed from your computer or handheld device. Shoeboxes built online often go to children in difficult-toaccess countries. In just a few clicks, you can select toys and other fun items to include as well as a letter and photo to delight the heart of a child. Samaritan’s Purse staff and volunteers will pack and send your shoebox gifts for you. Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samarit a n ’s P u r s e , s e e k s t o demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way to children in need around the world and, together with the local church worldwide, to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. Since 1993, Operation Christmas Child has collected and delivered more than 178 million gift-filled shoeboxes to children in more than 160 countries and territories.
Keep Us Fed Montgomery County Surpasses Two Major Milestones: Recovers Over One Million Pounds in 2020 and 2.5 Million Since Founding

Keep Us Fed Montgomery County (KUSF) surpassed two major milestones in December: recovering over 1 million pounds of food donations in 2020 and 2.5 million pounds since the organization was founded in 2015. KUSF mobilizes over 50 volunteers who collect food donations from grocery stores and restaurants seven days a week and deliver to
Pharmacy
non-profit organizations serving food insecure Montgomery County residents. Food insecurity in Montgomery County has grown as the effects of Covid-19, unemployment, and other factors has resulted in additional community need. Most recent estimates suggest more than 73,000 Montgomery County residents are
food insecure. By rescuing an average of 2900 pounds of food every day, KUSF helps to meet the growing need while keeping usable food out of the waste system. KUSF continues to grow as the need for food assistance grows. This years’ food donation recovery is 71% ahead of last year’s amount. Board members, Larry and Mary Blocker, report that the ability to take on more donors and the wonderful response of existing donors made increased food available just when it was needed most. For those interested in helping by donating food, time, or finances, KUSF welcomes your participation. Volunteer opportunities are available seven days a week and the typical amount of time required is 90 minutes. Please visit www.keepsusfedmoco.org for more information or call 936-206-3604. KUSF estimates it costs 2.9 cents to deliver a pound of food through their food recovery network. A $10 donation provides 3 individuals, 3 meals a day for a month. To make a financial donation, please v i s i t www.keepusfedmoco.org/c ontribute.
