LAGUNA-EG KIWANIS CARNITAS FEED

May 4, 2024 | Elk Grove

“The Kiwanis Carnitas Feed saw service through helping out an organized sort of dinner where the guests bought a ticket to attend. The proceeds went towards funding Kiwanis as well as other charities, but us Key Clubbers got the opportunity to get tips that would go towards our club. As part of service, we got to prepare food for the people who had bought tickets, plating ingredients and passing out condiments to the tables. When opening time came, we split into small groups and served the guests, almost like waiters! This was the part in which we could earn tips, where our hospitality was rewarded. The event stretched into dessert, where churros were soon distributed. As a bonus, we got to eat the extra churros, always a worthwhile event if free churros are involved, in my opinion. The Kiwanis Carnitas Feed was not only a good service opportunity, but a good opportunity to meet other Kiwanians in our district and raise some money for our club, I had a great time during this event, and I urge those who are looking to complete a service event remember to have fun!”

MAY DCM

May 18, 2024 | Elk Grove

“May DCM was a delightful and damp affair, full of excitement and friendship. The event drew a mixed crowd from several clubs in the Elk Grove District and was buzzing with enthusiasm. The meeting, led by our newly chosen Lieutenant Governor, Kaylie (Chigo) Estonilo of LCHS, marked the premiere of our revised District Leadership Team (DLT) board, which was followed by a ceremonial distribution of awards. The air was filled with yells and acclaim as extraordinary individuals, fondly known as "monsters," were honored for their great efforts throughout the month. During the festivities, attendance were able to enjoy exquisite pizza and popsicles at moderate costs, while the surrounding park provided a quiet backdrop for leisurely activities. The highlight, however, was a spirited water balloon skirmish in which laughter and splashing merged in an enthusiastic display of young exuberance, reinforcing memories of yet another great DCM encounter. What a great beginning to start our 2024-2025 terms.”

ASIAN PACIFIC CULTUREFEST

May 19, 2024 | Elk Grove

“At the Asian Pacific Festival it was very fun and interesting. I mostly worked on replacing the trashcans and picking up garbage on the floor. So I got to roam around the festival and saw a lot of varied booths ranging from food, art, and culture clubs. One of the culture clubs there was the Japanese Culture Club which hosted Japanese Calligraphy for anyone, I wasn’t able to try it but it was still pretty cool seeing everyone else’s calligraphy. There were also multiple performances on the stage. Although I wasn’t able to watch most of them, they ranged from different cultures like spiritual dances and the taiko drums. Overall it was mostly fun hanging out with other key club members while working!”
