FIA3 – Art as Connection Printmaking & Mixed Media Surrealism & Steampunk
Lino Printing Pressure of the raised areas of the printing plate against the paper causes ink to build up around the shapes or lines of the image Negative Space
Printed on fabric and paper
Bright red to shows the details effectively display the shapes engraved
Several thin lines to create depth and add focus to the cogwheels
RAHL Mixed Media Experiments Ratio of flour to water/dye was high therefore it was tough to smoothly apply to potato linos.
Materials used were a variety of found textured objects. I picked potato’s as a flat surface for printing. A mixture of ink, flour, salt and water were whipped into a fine solution. I used a pencil and knife to carve the prints into the potato's. Paper and old t-shirts were tested on
Experiment with different shapes and sizes for variety
Uneven application of paint.
Gel printing Layering of a small block to create a colourful collage
Random sizes of mesh to create variety
This print was successful because it has different colours and patterns that draw it to the eye Stencils add different patterns and create a patch work effect
Tools and materials: - Gelli Plate - Rubber Brayer - Acrylic paints - Art paper - Pallet knife Processes include: - Applying paint first - arranging elements on the gelatine plate to create a satisfying and balanced composition or design - Placing white silhouette's - Imprinting Stencils
Mono printing Materials/tools needed include: - Print press - Printing ink - Damp art paper - Scanned images of sketches or online prints - Pallet knife
Experimenting with different colours. Contrast was discovered to be very important to display the images effectively.
Thickness and contrast between colours impacted how clear the appear Scratching the paint with a against the paint. pallet knife
Texture was created by
Wiping the paint in a cloud like motion to portray chaos and wind
Cyanotype
Objects were placed on top of cyanotype and put under the sun. The cyanotype process reverses light and dark, so a negative original is required to print as a positive image.
Metals objects like clips and screws created a clear variety of shapes and patterns Mesh effectively created texture and lines beside larger objects
SELF activity and the images created here – 4 of the digital images Word was used to manipulate by correcting and adding artistic effects Manipulated artistic effect that has made the image become sketch like
Layering of pictures (some more blurred and bigger than others )
This filter is named ‘cut out’ and like the name it manipulates the dark and light parts of the image into blocks
Contrast and highlights were manipulated to effectively show the outline of my own face against the light
Contemporary Case Study 1 Particia Piccini has inspired my experimental prints as she explores surrealism through manipulating mixed medias to create texture and shape
Contemporary Case Study 2 Theo Jasen has inspired my experimental print because he designs sculptures that are UFO like. Sci-fi is a key part of steampunk, therefore he was helpful to study as I had a deep understanding of steam punk going into class practicals, and how my prints could reflect steampunk.
