FIA3 – Art as Connection Printmaking & Mixed Media Surrealism & Steampunk
Lino Printing
Values when printing depending on press strength
Textured lines
Fabric tests:
Adding water for dotted pattern
Rotated design Lots of paint to define each carving
Attempt of textured colouring by adding a light layer of black and blue paint
Block printing/mixed media
Value in paint through-out each imprint Different shapes and textures incorporated. Ovals, grained texture, swooshing
Variations of different lines thought-out artwork.
Colours varying for different tones and atmospheres. - Warmer colours (red, orange, yellow) are considered to implement a dramatic atmosphere.
Gel printing
Various texture used to take shape and form
Hand used to implement texture and value within print Cooler tones meaning a calmer atmosphere
Mono printing Scraped paint adding texture and lines
Edges of painting are uneven and take up less space
Images portray steampunk-like features and hand-drawn Cool and dull colours
Cyanotype Value from outcome present elevation from objects placed.
Lines of varying textures and shapes were implemented.
Different shapes used.
Shapes are more defined
SELF activity
Manipulated lighting tone to green.
Purple shadows, green lighting.
Emphasizing shadows and lighting.
Circular head, triangle nose, wave-like pattern on mouth and chin, etc…
Grainy texture
Cooler colours presenting a calmer atmosphere
Colour change to emphasize shadows and lighting.
Surrealism research
Abstract based imagery without a specific point or reference to the work.
Very famous work done by Giorgio de Chirico named ‘The Uncertainty of the Poet’ created in 1913.
Features melting clocks in an unknown location. Dada relates heavily with surrealism.
Example of Steampunk artwork (Limited colours, complicated design)
Example of Surrealism artwork (Vibrant colours, simple design)
Contemporary Case Study 1
Very memorable mustache Great influencer for my artwork as turning my images into unrealistic objects adds a surrealism touch as seen in this piece.
Contemporary Case Study 2
different textures suddenly fading from rough to soft giving myself numerous ideas on how to implement this element in my final work.
Space of the mountain was flipped Bright colours suggesting a pure atmosphere
Supporting Evidence
Manipulated image using digital media and editing software. -
A Cyanotype is the process of using shadows of objects to project and create a photographic effect. Cyanotype required placement of objects in dark lighting and moved to UV lighting (10 mins) for photographic effect. Manipulated forces with objects such as broken, wooden sticks, twine and a plastic bug. (rearranged to surround certain objects.) Planned process worked as I had created the effect I had intended.
Taken picture layered picture with a ram skull Put into Pixlr.com to create effects such as manipulated lighting to emphasize the textual elements.
The SELF activity requires a picture of the artist and to be manipulated in a way to emphasize elements in the image.
Supporting Evidence Mono Printing is imprinting an image onto a painted design .
A limitation of this design were the colours and the movement of the scrapping from the pallet knife. The colours made the image feel displeasing and the scrapping too tight. - A design on paper using paint is created - The images are then pressed using a print press
While creating the design, hopes of the product looked worrying however the result, with the use of textures and colours, became a favorable experiment. - With the use of paint and different colours, create a design - Add textures and manipulate elements with surrounding objects - Press paper on design
Gel printing requires a layout of Gel to be designed with paint and manipulated with objects to imprint a texture such as leaves or cloth.
