FIA2: Art as Lens Experimental Folio
Reflective Statement This experimental folio focusses on an object that I manipulated from an FIA1 artwork. This artwork was originally inspired by Kurt Schwitters ‘Merzbau’, and by creating this modular and almost futuristic object it explores the notion of dwelling. Therefore, it has a contemporary context. Likewise, as the original experiment was a collaged image of my home this object also has a personal context. This folio incorporates two-dimensional, three-dimensional and time-based works to best demonstrate my divergent thinking, use of media and idea development. My folio has been influenced by contemporary artists who investigate different mediums. Experimenting with a range of mediums was a new concept for me. Claes Oldenburg’s installation artworks presented a new way of looking at art. Thus, through using a similar intention I reversed the traditional relationship between the viewer and object by creating this object which reflects a futuristic home on a small scale. Similarly, I was also inspired by the idea of belonging which is a common theme seen throughout Alfredo and Isabel Aquilizan artworks. I liked how they reassembled materials which is reflected within my object as I reassembled my original artwork.
