FIA2 - Art as Lens Experimental Folio
Reflective Statement My focus for my folio was a vintage post card. I explored the ideas, uses and aesthetics of this post card using one-dimensional, two-dimensional, time based and digital manipulation methods. This exploration resulted in an array of experimental works, whereby I chose the pieces that best demonstrated my divergent thinking to form my folio. This postcard made its way from Britain to a vintage shop near my house, and now lives on my bedroom wall. I fell in love with the image of the two 19th century gowned women depicted on the postcard. My folio was influenced by one contemporary and one historical artist, both of whom inspired me by their less famous styles and works. Andy Warhol experimented with minimalistic line art in the 80’s which inspired me to recreate the postcard’s faces using line. Line is a representation of connectedness - connection in which is cultivated by the words written on postcards. I took inspiration from this concept throughout my folio. Using style inspiration from Pablo Picasso’s earlier charcoal works, I created a piece that then followed on to be used in different works. This continuation again alludes to connection, and the written words that maintain it.
