Unit 1 FIA2: Art as LensExperimental Portfolio
Reflective Statement The object of focus that I chose to work with as a theme throughout my works was jewelry, more specifically jewelry that I hold meaning to me personally. Throughout creating my folio, I used a variety of medias such as two-dimensional, threedimension and time based. The jewelry pieces I chose to uses were mostly gifts, such as a ring gifted to my mother by my grand mother and then passed down to me after the gems were switched out.
Reflective statement continued My folio has been influenced by the concept of finding the beauty in everything. I originally wanted to base all my art works on the concept of femineity and the female body, but I couldn’t exactly connect an inanimate object to the human body, so I settled on jewelry as it is seen as classily feminine and is very commonly used to accentuate or frame one’s beauty. The artists that inspired me in the concept was an artists I’ve studied previously, Lauren Brevner and Alphones Mucha. Both artist embody women and concepts of femininity with Brevner’s being on the more modern side and Mucha’s being more towards the extravagant side.
