FIA3- Art as Code

Artist Statement

My final artwork was created using a mirror and skateboard deck, whilst incorporating personal context of self-worth and reflection. Experiments inspired by surrealism, pop art and the artists and style of Keith Haring. I have manipulated materials in both 2D and 3D media to create meaning. The artwork represents both my mentality and attitude towards life, as it best reflects my bright and positive attitude through visual elements of vibrant colour and flowers. The mirror is further reflecting on myself and the person I see in the mirror today.

The iconic Keith Haring clipart legs are painted onto the mirror in bright vibrant colours viewed by the audience as the legs, with the skateboard on the bottom of the legs, as if the client is riding it. On the skateboard is a painted artwork of two faces conjoined together representing the idea of two minds thinking alike and a personal theme of reflection and reflecting. The faces have a marbling effect, giving the idea of colours intertwined but unique and stand out from their own. The bright colours on the faces also reflect my bubbly, energetic and fun personality (pop art). On either side of the face are two footprints with flowers popping out giving the surrealism and 3D effect. The meaning behind this is the bright colours represent positivity with every footstep. I have also included the flowers because it too represents, my personality but also how the faces look at the bright side with rays of positivity coming out of the feet like I always do. Furthermore, the mirror reflects self-worth, and the feet connecting the face bringing up to reflection represents who you are and the different characteristics and elements making the person you see in the mirror today.
