FIA3 – Art is code
Artist statement This folio responds to the formal context Art as Code with a focus on self and the personal context of the human soul within that. Through the exploration of the works of Xu Bing and Glen Skien, I experimented with concept of self and soul. In doing this, I developed an understanding of how to visually communicate the astrology symbol Sagittarius within the resolved work. The resolved artwork consists of a skateboard that has been manipulated into 5 pieces and is painted in greyscale with acrylic paints and paint pens. Throughout the creation process’, experiments took place in 2D and 3D media was manipulated to explorer cultural & personal contexts to not only help develop an understanding of the culture and symbolism in the final work but to also have a deeper understanding of how code and colour could be used to help create this.
