FIA2 – The Extreme Wearable Art
Artist Statement I was presented with the task of creating two adornments designed for the school musical, The Wiz. These adornments are to be worn by the cast of the people of emerald city, meaning they must be suitable for a range of body types and follow a specific colour scheme consisting of greens, purples and metallics. The following folio displays the garments that I have designed and created, with reference to the planning processes involved and the source of my inspiration. The two garments that I have made consist of both a vest and a head piece. The vest is comprised of a green base, decorated with flowers and patterns, with a large collar that will stand out to the audience. The headpiece was designed to have a similar theme, using the same green material of the collar and continuing the use of flowers. A large part of my work was inspired by Claudia Williams, especially in relation to her techniques when handling different materials. This was done through both collaboration in workshops and through the viewing of her work online. My pieces incorporate elements and principals of art such as repetition, pattern and colour.
