Artist Statement The Wiz, an adaptation of the Wizard of Oz, is a soul musical which recontextualises the classic into a modern piece. The Emerald City scene, with green and gold characters, has been re-imagined into a dystopian highsociety piece, for which the two pieces have been created for, using green, gold, and purple. The first piece is a shoulder piece, with an extended collar and shoulder pads. Repetition of the textures were accented, with an emphasis on golden materials. The second piece is a mohawk-style fascinator with a large structure on top, and dangling pom-poms. Woven materials were used heavily in this piece, with more manipulation of fabrics. Both pieces were inspired by Greek and Roman war-like armour, with large plumes and golden features. Additionally, inspiration from Claire Williams, especially her consideration of texture and movement. Large forms, of balanced and un-balanced elements were used to emphasise the piece on stage.
