FIA2 – The Extreme Wearable Art
Artist Statement The task was to create a wearable art costume with a green, purple and gold colour scheme for the school musical The Wiz. My focus for my folio was a waistband and a head piece. I investigated the different designs through the artists we research in class. In the folio I picked the wearable art pieces that would show my best skills in conforming to the criteria, and allowed me to be time efficient so that I could finish them in class. The first garment I created was a head piece. I put gold, green and purple flowers on top to fit the colour scheme. I covered the base in a green sparkly fabric and I put green sticks on top to fit the naturistic elements of the play. My second piece was the waist band. I made the colour a light green. It was made out of plastic bags and gaffa tape. I put gold tassels on it and a gold leaves. I have been inspired by artists like Claudia Williams because she has many creative head pieces and bodices. I have been inspired by the play the Wiz by incorporating sparkles into my headpiece and waistband to give it a magical vibe.
