FIA2 – The Extreme Wearable Art
Artist Statement This task challenged me to create a wearable art piece that could be used as a costume in a school musical. I will be showing you the process of how my first garment has developed. I was inspired by Alexander McQueen, a well-known fashion designer who specialises in wearable art. My artwork is a vibrant green top, consisting of diverse medias. Cloth tape, tulle, necklaces for embellishments, eyelet, clingwrap, and spray paint were medias used to create the form and style. To make the wearable art, layers of cloth tape and plastic created a secure base. Using eyelets, the principle of movement will be consistent throughout the performance. Smooth and rough textures as well as green scape colours, invite a forest like identity. Overall, the use of the elements and principles of art, my art piece will stand out for the purpose of stagecraft and entertainment.
Wearable Art piece #1 The elements and principles I used for wearable art piece #1 highlights the principle of movement and elements of texture and colour. By using a strong base for the top of the garment, followed by a hemmed piece of fabric at the bottom, the performer will be able to move comfortably across the stage. The colour is predominantly green, with gold features that stand out. Diverse medias, have created depth and a clean finish.

Eyelets are there so the garment can be loosened or tightened depending on the models size.
Necklace sewed onto bottom. To reflect off stage lights and add detail.

Supporting evidence Diverse medias, have created depth and a clean finish. Artists such as Alexander McQueen or Emma Yeo have inspired me to manipulate medias that would rather be thrown away into wearable art pieces that provide entertainment, whether it be on stage or a runway. Overall, this connects with the task brief as I have used the principles and elements of art to create a wearable art piece appropriate for a musical, inspired by artists that influence designers all across the world.
