MORETON BAY COLLEGE PROSPECTUS
WELCOME TO
Moreton Bay College
May I warmly welcome you to Moreton Bay College (MBC), an independent, Early Years to Year 12 girls’ school in the Brisbane bayside suburb of Manly. An accredited International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, our globallyfocussed curriculum and inquiry-based learning programmes are tailored to suit the way that girls learn and allow them to develop attributes, attitudes and skills that prepare them for tomorrow’s world. Established in 1901 by the pioneering and progressive Greene sisters, we remain steadfastly committed to their vision of a school where all girls are nurtured in a safe, Christian environment, and the growth of the whole child - academically, personally, socially and spiritually - is our mission. In short, we care for, and care about, your daughter’s wellbeing as much as we care about her academic growth. Thus, in our classrooms, on the sporting fields, on the stage and in our wider community we strive to ensure our girls live and interact in a manner which honours the Greenes’ legacy. We want our girls to know more than what to learn, we want them to know how to learn and so the primary and secondary curricula builds upon the girls’ natural curiosity, creativity, and develops their critical thinking and problem solving skills which are imperative for the successful 21st century learner. Every day, when I step out of my office, I see the benefits of being a Bay girl first-hand. Our focus on wellbeing means that we are so much more than just the great academic results we achieve. However, I ask you not to simply take my word for this. I encourage you to visit us to observe the girls engaged in their lessons, talk with our teachers and ask our primary and secondary student leaders about their own individual learning journeys at MBC. I am sure that as you move around the College, you too will feel a culture of care and the very special quality it is to be a Moreton Bay College Girl. With courage and hope, Mrs Janet Stewart Principal Moreton Bay College

The decision to join the colleges together is, at its heart, quite simple Moreton Bay College and Moreton Bay Boys’ College are stronger together. Both colleges have significant strengths to offer the other and together have a unique proposition in private school education. Academic Programme MORETON BAY COLLEGE PROSPECTUS
As an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, Moreton Bay College offers the benefits of an internationally recognised approach to education.
6
Our academic programme broadens the learning experiences of the girls through an innovative, relevant and engaging curriculum. With highly qualified teachers who are experts in girls’ education, our goal is to guide every student to achieve her desired post-school goals. We understand that not all girls learn in the same way. Indeed, there is great diversity in the way
children learn. However, by providing an environment that recognises and embraces their differences, we can maximise individuals’ potential. We provide an inquiry-based approach to learning that seeks to foster curiosity about the world. It equips our students with the capacity to research, critique and synthesise information, and demonstrate the value of collaboration in learning while encouraging independence and resilience. It urges them to produce innovative solutions to real life challenges, and teaches them to use a range of media to demonstrate knowledge in general, and skills in literacy and numeracy in particular. The scope and diversity of our academic programme develops girls that want to be at school and want to learn. By encouraging each girl to achieve her potential and discover her own unique interests and talents, we raise the expectations of what our girls can accomplish. Your daughter will receive an outstanding student experience that enables her to be the best she can be. She will graduate with the attitudes, attributes and skills that will provide the keys to becoming a knowledgeable, confident, caring and responsible global citizen.

Pastoral Care
Hearts and Minds ‘In educating the minds of our youth, we must not forget to educate their hearts.’ - Dalai Lama The words above capture Moreton Bay College’s holistic approach to education, which is supported by a substantial body of evidence showing that there is a positive correlation between wellbeing and academic outcomes. We see pastoral care as a collaborative partnership between students, parents and staff. We create a community where girls feel safe, valued, connected, have a strong sense of belonging and know they are valued and listened to. The school years hold many of the most demanding challenges of growing up. During these years, Moreton Bay College extends a guiding hand through its personal development and pastoral care programmes. At Moreton Bay College the wellbeing of each girl is supported via Hearts and Minds, the College’s wellbeing framework. Overarching the Positive Behaviour Policy and related policies, all pastoral programmes, procedures and activities align with Hearts and Minds. This wellbeing framework is based on the research completed by the New Economics Foundation (NEF), establishing a set of evidence-based actions that improve personal wellbeing.
