in the driving seat for Motorsport East
Hit the gas and head for Bury St Edmunds town centre on Sunday July 16 as the town revs up for a day of free family entertainment with the return of Motorsport East.
The town centre will play host to a show of cars and sporting vehicles with more than 65 different exhibits all curated by well-known local rally cross commentator and Motorsport correspondent Arthur Debenham. Helping to steer this annual Our Bury St Edmunds event is Laura Cooledge – a Women in Motorsport Ambassador and Club Development Officer at Anglia Motor Sport Club.

Motorsport East will feature some spectacular competition vehicles with one of the highlights being the Ford GT40 – a motorsport legend that in 1966 broke Ferrari’s winning streak at the Le Mans 24-hour race and went on to win it for a further three years, dominating the event at the end of the decade and also winning four FIA International titles.

For those who want to fuel their passion for fast cars then this is an event not to be missed, but, as with all Our Bury St Edmunds events, there’s something for all ages including bumper cars and a roundabout. The family attractions at arc shopping centre, will be free of charge. There’ll also be plenty of town centre cafes, bars and restaurants to take a pit stop and grab a bite to eat.
Our Bury St Edmunds Event Manager Jackie Regan said: “Motorsport East is a chance to bring the family to a fun and free day out. Cornhill and Buttermarket will be transformed into a celebration of cars and motorsports but there will be lots more around the town centre to see and do.
“If you’ve dreamed of living life in the fast lane then this is the event for you. And when you’re ready to take your foot off the gas there’ll be a choice of our many hospitality businesses in the town centre to welcome you.”
If you’ve always wanted to be in the driving seat yourself then there’s a rare opportunity to drive an F1 Stealth Racer Simulator –at no charge. Take part in our competition and you could find yourself winning a fabulous gift card prize.
And if you want to discover how to turn your dream of participating in the sport into reality then there’s no better place to be. There’ll be plenty of people currently involved in the industry whether it’s racing, rally cross, karting and many more motorsport disciplines there’s a chance to talk to those involved and find out what it takes to get behind the wheel.
Every year the event raises funds for charity and in 2022 close to £1,000 was generously given. This year the chosen charity of Motorsport East is one that has touched the lives of many in our area – St Nicholas Hospice Care. Any donation you are able to give will help support their work for and within our community.
Admission to Motorsport East is free and it runs from 10am to 4pm. For more information about the event and other town centre activities visit www.ourburystedmunds.com or follow our social media channels.
