COMMUNITY CENTRE Some good news on this front, at a meeting held on the 8th of June the following discussion took place. Your community Association, Residents Association and Councillors are talking to the Borough Council about the best way to spend the developers contributions from the New Taylor Wimpey homes which are earmarked for our existing Community Centre. Some of the money will be spent by the Association on immediate improvements to the build, but there are also talks about how to use some of it to increase the range of activities and facilities for Moreton Hall, including the possibility of developing a local library service. Things are at an early stage still, but there should be more to report later in the year. Your Community Association work tirelessly to provide entertainment for the residents of Moreton Hall putting on some great events but they would like to see more of you using the club.
LITTER PICK
10 | JULY 2018
On the 13th June, Patsy and I spent three hours doing a litter pick with students from Abbotts Green School, it was great to see these young people with all their litter pick gear busy picking up litter which covered two play areas and the pathway down to Tesco Express, Many thanks to Rod and his colleague for their help and a BIG THANKS to the students also.
youth club With the better weather the youngsters are playing outside in the new play area on Heldhaw Road which is good as it keeps them away from their Ipad and phones, but this leads to another problem. When mums and dads send their children to the youth club they assume that’s where they are, however, if the children don’t come to the club and register the helpers don’t know who or where they are and therefore are not responsible for them. I have been asked also to point out that very young children should not be left unsupervised in the play area.
Play Areas Sadly our play areas are being abused by some teenagers, I have had several complaints regarding teenagers swearing, messing about and refusing to get off equipment meant for smaller children, this is happening mainly at the Skyliner play area. There is no way councillors or members of the council can prevent this. I think the best way is for anyone who sees this going on, try and get the names of those involved and pass this on to any of the councillors or perhaps a letter to the parents might help.
PARKING AND PARKING ON PATHWAYS The never ending saga of parking, there are not enough police or PCSOs to cover the town and estates, however, the council has a warden who covers our area three times a week and has served about thirty penalty notices this month already. The council are still looking at extra parking on the field in front of the community centre, that said, it’s a while since we had our meeting regarding this so fingers crossed they will sort it out soon.
That’s all for now, until next time take care, Frank Warby JULY 2018 | 11

Read all about it!
We have had some very encouraging discussions and a great meeting this month regarding the future development of the Community Centre. Some of you will know that we secured around £200k from the new housing developments some years ago which have now been earmarked for improvements to the centre. There was an initial intent to extend the building, but even this sum wasn’t quite enough to fix some of the maintenance issues and perform a building project. We have now got an additional commitment of around £117k from Suffolk Libraries, which will allow us to improve the service from once every three weeks in a truck to a static site, with more IT and office provision. There is an outline proposal to bring the front of the centre out (pictured) to offer a flexible space in front of the Post Office and an architect is being appointed. The whole project is very exciting. Words also cannot convey the thanks we must give to Nigel and Colin from the centre and Juliet from the Post Office for their ongoing work.
Going Downhill, Fast!
I should use this space to give some advanced notice of a great day which is upcoming. MY WISH charity have organised our own Soapbox Challenge on 1st Spetember which will take place on the hilly section of Mount Road between the prep school and the Priory at Eastgate. This will mean that this section of road will be closed for most of the day, so please use Barton Rd instead. Most of all, please support the event and lets enjoy it! Thanks to Paul Raynor and Sue Smith. Details can be found at mywishcharity.wsh.nhs.uk/Charity/ Events/SoapBoxChallenge.aspx

I continue to hold my monthly councillor’s surgery at the Coffee House. This is always at 2pm on the first Saturday of the month. Please call to book your appointment ahead on

Infrastructure works around Suffolk Business Park continue. Whilst this is disruptive, it does mean that some of our cycle routes have been upgraded. Fencing has now come down on the stretch behind Denny Bros and we have a beautiful newly landscaped route under the A14 linking us with the other side of town (pictured).

The Residents Association have written to the newly appointed Suffolk County Council Cabinet Member for Highways Councillor Mary Evans pointing out the various traffic issues and concerns that residents have raised regarding HGVs, parking, the Relief Road, queues at Junction 44 and backed that up with e mails received from residents and an HGV survey undertaken by a resident along Orttewell Road. We have requested a meeting but to date no reply. We will follow this up. The Suffolk Police and Crime Commissioner Tim Passmore is holding an open public meeting on Thursday 12 July at The Newbury Community Centre, St Olaves Road, Howard Estate, Bury St Edmunds IP32 6RW from 7pm to 8.30pm with refreshments at 6.40 pm so if you are dissatisfied with recent events or have other issues you wish to raise do go along. A date for your diary Monday 24th September in the evening. An open meeting with the Police at the Community centre to which all Moreton Hall Residents are invited. Organised by MHRA more details to follow in the August and September Issues and on the Moreton Hall Voice Facebook Page and on our web site. The minutes from our May meeting and the agenda for our July meeting are on our www.moretonhallresidents.wordpress. com/
You may have noticed traffic counters on various roads on Moreton Hall. Suffolk County Council have commissioned an up to date traffic assessment. The purpose of this has been described as follows “A relief road has been built in Bury St Edmunds providing an alternate route for traffic to the east joining and departing the A14and also to allow for future growth within Bury St Edmunds. An assessment was carried out previously and presumably that was based on theory and statistics, and this one will provide the reality of traffic flows. It will be interesting to see the result. The dates of our meetings for the rest of 2018 are as follows Committee Meeting Thursday 5th July 7.30 pm The Community Centre. Committee Meeting Thursday 13th September 7.30 pm The Community Centre. Open meeting with the Police Monday 24th September The Community Centre. Committee Meeting Thursday 8th November 7.30pm The Community Centre. Annual General Meeting Wednesday 21st November 7 pm The Community Centre. W hat’s been happening at...
ABBOTS GREEN Academy
As we write this month’s article, our Year 6 children are currently making the most of some fabulous opportunities after working hard and completing their SATS examinations last half term. The majority of the children have spent their week in Torquay on a fun-packed residential visit during which time they have visited the Eden Project and Paignton Zoo as well as taking part in a full range of activities at the adventure centre where they are residing. Daytime activities have included: abseiling; fencing; archery; swimming and mountain biking. And, in the evenings, there have been sports events and discos. We very much look forward to their safe return and hearing all about their adventures. We are sure that there will be a peaceful weekend ahead for their families as they catch up on their rest after such an active week! The Year 6 children who remained in school have had an exciting week of their own in the form of an ‘Activities Week.’ The week kicked off with the opportunity to paint a ceramic plate in their own design. On Tuesday they were joined by employees from British Sugar for an exciting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) Day. The challenges throughout the day included building a car that has the ability to protect its cargo of eggs when it goes down a hill and crashes. They also made paper rockets together and learnt more about STEM careers at British Sugar. In computing the children were each given a ‘World Cup’ country to research before they were asked to produce a presentation on their particular country. There have also been a range of PE activities; films and popcorn. Their Activities Week concludes with the children cooking their own lunch, a tasty Spaghetti Bolognese which we hope they will eat off their personalised plates. They will then spend the afternoon cycling with Abbeycroft Leisure. Phew, what an exciting week! The Year 6 residential is just one of the residential opportunities provided at Abbots Green. Children in Year 4 also have the chance to spend two nights away in Norfolk each year.

Sybil Andrews Academy
LOCAL NEWS
Two months after starting at Sybil Andrews Academy, we caught up with headteacher Trenica King to see how it is going‌ What has your first few months as headteacher been like? I have really enjoyed my first few months in school. I have found the students, staff and parents I have met to be very welcoming.
What attracted you to Sybil Andrews Academy? Many things. Most importantly, the amazing students and staff. However, we are also lucky enough to have a fantastic and inspiring building. I am excited by the thought of being able to help build the future plans for both the new buildings and how our school will be.
What has impressed you most about the school? The students’ attitudes towards their futures. So many of the students I talk to have high aspirations and many already know what they would like their future careers to be. They know that a good education will help them on their way and I see how motivated and committed they are to getting the most out of what the school can offer. I am also impressed with the staff that I have the pleasure of working alongside. Just this week I had the pleasure of meeting an amazing group of parents at our Parents Forum it was wonderful to see how generous they were with their time and helpful feedback.
What has surprised you most about Sybil Andrews Academy? How much has been achieved in such a short period of time. The school should be rightly pleased of how well they have managed their setup phase. There is so
much to be proud of and so much more than can be done as we continue to grow. I was also surprised and really enjoyed meeting the many Year 5 and 6 students I have met at our transition days and welcome interviews.
What are the most important attributes of a headteacher? To want the very best for their students and staff. To believe that each and every student that walks through the door has an amazing future and we are there to help them on their way. To ensure the very highest standards in their school and to be honest and open about what we already do wonderfully well and what we could still improve.
How will you be spending your summer holidays? Some of it in school working hard to ensure we are ready for September and some time away with my family to ensure that I am rested ready for an exciting new term at the school.
What are you looking forward to most about starting your first full school year at Sybil Andrews? Welcoming our new staff and students and welcoming back our existing staff and students. Seeing the start of our next phase of building which will start over the summer holidays. Getting to know the community and continuing to strengthen the links with our local primary schools.

Badgers in Moreton Hall
H
ave you ever seen a badger in Moreton Hall? As far as we know, there are no badger setts in Moreton Hall, but there is at least one badger colony in Rougham, well within walking range of a hungry badger looking for food. If you live on or near the top end of Mount Road, Lady Miriam Way, or work on the business park on Kempson Way or Rougham Tower Avenue , there’s a chance you might see a badger, or signs of a badger. Look out for latrines, a little pit with soft dropping in. Or maybe you might see a snuffle hole, where a badger has pushed its nose into the soil and rummaged around for worms. snuffle holes tend to be circular, with soil pushed out the hole all around the edge as the badger
pivots in a circle around its nose. Rabbit scrapes, on the other hand, can be distinguished from snuffle holes because rabbits scrap with their front feet, making a more linear scrape with all the soil on one side. Unlike badgers in western England, badgers here tend not to have TB, and there are few dairy cattle, so there’s no pressure to kill badgers here as there is in the west. There have been several badgers seen dead on main roads this spring and early summer, as young badger cubs start to explore. The number of badger roadkills is one way of monitoring badger numbers. No badger road kills means no badgers; lots of roadkills mean that there are lots of badgers in the area.

The 19th hole Welcome back to the 19th hole,
June saw us crown another major champion at the US OPEN. What a week it was at Shinnecock Hills but JULY see’s us move on to yet another major is time we are on home soil with THE OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP.
This years OPEN is being held at the amazing Carnoustie in Scotland. This is the most northerly course on The Open rota, Carnoustie has hosted golf’s oldest major on seven occasions. Carnoustie has a reputation for being the toughest venue on the rota with the demanding closing four holes being the scene of many dramatic Open moments.
Golf has been played at Carnoustie since the early 16th century. The course is long and narrow with penal bunkering that seeks to reward nothing less than top quality shot-making. Lastly, with the points list hotting up for Ryder Cup selection can a European win this event and book their place in Paris in September? My pick for THE OPEN is… RORY MCILROY DATE’S FOR THE DIARY – There are other competitions this month on tour, here is a look at what we can watch this month. European Tour DUBAI DUTY FREE IRISH OPEN HOSTED BY THE RORY FOUNDATION ABERDEEN STANDARD INVESTMENTS SCOTTISH OPEN 147th OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP Porsche European Open PGA Tour A Military Tribute at the Greenbrier John Deere Classic Barbasol Championship The Open Championship RBC Canadian Open Coaches Corner – THE PERFECT FAIRWAY WOOD with PGA LIFE 365 This month’s coaches corner looks at the perfect set up and playing of the fairway wood shots. If this is an area of your game that isn’t as strong as it could be then lets, see what we can do to help.
This section is in partnership with PGA LIFE 365 YouTube channel, feel free to search for this and other videos in their set up for success series. If you like their videos, please give them a like and don’t forget to subscribe to the channel for all their latest video releases. First let’s talk about expectations with this club, it is for most people the second longest club they carry. This makes it harder to control than most, now factor in that you will need to strike it from the ground at times and we have a difficult shot. However, after speaking to a number of players we feel that they are trying to be too accurate with this shot. Let’s set the expectations at the width of the hole you are playing and be happy with the distance we recieve from using this club. Remember most of the time we are using this shot for the distance it brings us. SET UP for success with this shot, the set up of the body is going to be more like the driver. Slight more upright in your stance due the length of the club and with an in balance through the shoulders due to the ball position. Ball position, this will be different for different players. Make a few practice swings and see where YOUR swing brushes the ground. Then play the ball from this positon, we would in courage you to have the ball towards your lead foot but by how much is personal to YOUR swing. DRILL, once we are set up for success then we need to practice this action to gain confidence in it. A simple drill (seen in image) that allows you to practice without going to the range, just strike the tee pegs that are laying on the ground. They are low in profile and if you are striking them every time there is no reason why this fairway wood shot should now become a shot you play more. If you wanted anymore help with as or any other aspect of your game, then I would be pleased to assist you in enjoying this great game more. If you quote MHD or SGD when booking your first lesson with me then you will receive £5 off, below are my contact details please don’t hesitate to contact me.

HEALTH & BEAUTY
I am hidden so you cannot see me! People struggle to understand a condition they cannot immediately see, of which there are many. The invisibility of such illnesses present challenges when it comes to expressing the effects it has on ones life. Knowledge and understanding is the key to being able to interact with someone on the same level as everyone else. Creating opportunities to educate others on not simply looking at face value nor being so quick to judge each other, but to be kind with an open mind. Each day presents unique challenges to sufferers and the fact that the illness is invisible doesn’t make it any easier for others to understand. Many simply try to live in any which way their bodies will let them. Everyday your faced with scepticism from people who do not understand what is wrong with you. Lack of understanding of what that person is going through results in loss of friends and lack of sympathy and doubt is not the only uphill battle people with invisible illnesses have to climb. People may never relate to what you are going through and that’s why finding a support group of people with similar conditions can be so helpful. You are not alone as there are many others who need support and need to talk. Joining a support group is a great way to feel less isolated and lonely. Working towards finding something to distract you from your condition will enrich your life and inspire a positive outlook. We at CPSG understand exactly what you are going through and are here for you when you feel ready to give us a call.

What do you think of Casa? Here at the Directory, we always enjoy a great evening out at Casa. With delicious, fresh food, amazing cocktails and a good wine menu...whats not to like? Don’t take our word for it though - here are what some of the recent customers have said about their trips to Casa on TripAdvisor.
Great Tapas...
Maria Broa dbent, Restaurate ur
HHHHH
Really good food and staff, the building itself is really nice and had a great atmosphere. The food was really good and had a lot of options, it was all very authentic Spanish and was probably better than some places i have been to in Spain.
Dinner...
HHHHH
We had a delicious meal. There was lots to choose from and the service friendly and professional. Vegan options were available so we’ll be going back.
Amazing Food, great atmosphere...
HHHHH
Decided to go out for dinner a bit last minute, Casa could fit us in and it was no trouble at all. Atmosphere was lovely and the staff was great, fantastic customer service. The food was incredible there is such a variety on the menu and the quality is great, we ordered too much but they said we could take it home if needs be... didn’t need to in the end as we ate it all! I shall be coming back for my birthday and will definitely get there in time for happy hour as well!
Amazing for Gluten Free...
HHHHH
We went to Casa to celebrate my Mum’s new house and had a brilliant time. My partner is coeliac and their awareness around gluten free foods and cross contamination was phenomenal. It also had a huge amount of dairy free and vegetarian/vegan foods. We had the set menu (all gluten free) which was delicious and fantastic value for money. We opted for the sangria to go with it which was great too. This is a real contender for the best restaurant in Bury St Edmunds (especially if you are gluten free)!
FABULOUS IN EVERY WAY
HHHHH
We literally walked past this restaurant whilst on a visit to Bury (live in Ipswich). We love tapas and booked a table immediately for lunch. Their weekday lunch menu is great - 3 tapas dishes plus drink for £13.95 - utterly delicious and staff were brilliant. We will find an excuse to return to Bury St Edmunds just to lunch here again - and may even go to one of their special evenings and book a hotel! Also we’re so helpful re my food allergies - a true find!

Crab and Leek Tart Ingredients: For the pastry 100g/3½oz plain flour, plus extra for rolling 100g/3½oz wholemeal flour 125g/4oz cold butter, cubed 1 free-range egg, beaten For the filling knob of butter 2 medium leeks, trimmed, sliced thinly 50g/2oz butter 300ml half-fat crème fraîche 3 free-range eggs, beaten 100g/3½oz fresh brown crab meat Pinch sea salt flakes 100g/3½oz fresh white crab meat 50g/2oz mature cheddar, finely grated freshly ground black pepper
sponsored by
Method: Preheat the oven to 200C/400F/Gas 6. For the pastry, pulse the flours and butter in a food processor until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. With the motor running, add the egg in a thin stream and blend until the mixture begins to form a ball. Roll the pastry into a circle on a floured work surface and use it to line a 23cm/9in loose-based fluted tart tin. Press the pastry with your fingertips firmly into the base and sides. Trim any excess pastry and lightly prick the base of the tart using a fork. Chill in the fridge for 30 minutes. Line the pastry with a large sheet of crumpled baking parchment and half fill with baking beans. Bake the tart case for 25 minutes. Remove the beans and return the tart to the oven for a further 5-10 minutes or until the surface is dry and beginning to brown. Remove from the oven and reduce the oven to 180C/350F/Gas 4. For the filling, melt the butter in a large heavy-based frying pan over a low heat. Add the leeks and fry gently for 2-3 minutes, stirring until just softened. Remove from the heat and set aside. Put the eggs in a large jug and beat lightly with a whisk. Stir in the crème fraîche, season with salt and freshly ground black pepper. Beat together with a wooden spoon until thoroughly combined. Stir in the brown crab meat. Scatter the leeks over the pastry case and dot the white crab meat around them. Pour over the crème friache mixture and sprinkle with the cheese. Cook on the baking tray for 25 minutes, or until the filling is golden-brown and just set. (It should still wobble a tiny bit in the centre as it will continue to set as it cools.) Remove the quiche from the oven and leave to cool in the tin for 15 minutes before removing. 38 | JULY 2018

Moreton Hall Youth U11 Football Team 2017/18 At the start of the season we were moving up from 7-a-side football to 9-a-side, which was a big step up for the boys. We had some new players join us for the season, which in turn meant that we required a new kit for the season.
Pictured are the Moreton Hall Youth U11 football team for the season 2017/18.
We got in contact with Tennens Properties Ltd, who are Moreton Hall’s primary house selling agent and also specialise in the letting market, they kindly agreed to sponsor us for the season with a brand new kit. Tennens, who are based at the centre of the community, have been fantastic and have also kindly agreed to continue the sponsorship into next season. Suzanne Banks and Ian Choules of Tennens recently attended the Moreton Hall Youth end-of-season presentation night and are pictured here with the trophy winners for the current season.

EV Q&A
BY ANDREW SOUTHWOOD
I’m now over 1000 miles into my EV (electric vehicle) life, and I haven’t looked back.
Having chatted to lots of people over the course of this month, it’s clear to me there are still huge myths about EV ownership that are widespread amongst the general public. So, here I will try and tackle the main ones:
Isn’t the range of these things tiny? No. How many times a year do you drive for over 2 or 3 hours without stopping? My EV has a real world range of 160+ miles. Charging takes too long doesn’t it? No. You have several options for charging: Slow charge off a 3pin socket at home (10-12 hrs) Fast charge at home, or public car parks (3-5 hrs) Rapid charge at a service station (just 30 mins) Electricity is expensive, just like petrol. Not really. If you charge at home using Econ7, or similar, you will pay what equates to about 2p per mile. Many work places and public chargers are free or heavily subsidised. The most expensive charging will be at motorway service stations, where you pay a premium for speed (rapid)
42 | JULY 2018
and convenience, usually around twice the price of regular home charging. I doubt many of us would use them more than a few times a year. I actually don’t think I’ve paid more than £1 for my first 1000 miles, as I make use of free charging as much as possible.
The battery will need replacing in a few years wont it?
There are too many different charging networks.
They are too expensive.
Yes there are several different charging networks. You would decide which one/s suited your needs best. However, remember that most people do >95% of their charging at home anyway, so that’s not an issue. You are still using dirty electricity so there’s no net environmental benefit. Not true. The majority of EV charging networks claim to use 100% renewable energy, and if you get a green tariff at home you can do the same.
No. My battery has an 8 year guarantee against significant deterioration. Most first generation EV’s are still going strong, outperforming their predicted lifespan.
If you are like the majority of people and pay a monthly figure to run/own a car then there is almost no difference to an equivalent conventional car. No tax, no congestion charging, and hugely reduced fuel and servicing costs. The insurance is no different either. Just to be clear. I do not have shares in any EV companies and am not being sponsored to write this (although I’m open to offers!). I am however passionate about the environment and firmly believe this is one important way we can help ‘save the planet’ for generations to come.

PANICLE HYDRANGEA 62 | JULY 2018
The panicle hydrangea (Hydrangea paniculata) is the less well-known brother of the ‘ordinary’ hydrangea you are familiar with. The panicle hydrangea is a strongly deciduous shrub with elegant, plume-shaped sprays which are 15-30cm long from July to September. The panicle hydrangea likes a spot in full sunlight or partial shade. Pruning in March ensures that new flowers develop on the plant every year, and keeps it young and healthy. Hydrangeas that most of us have in our gardens tend to have either pink or blue flowers depending on the soil. With panicle hydrangeas’ the flowers do not change based on the soil chemistry. Rather, it is a change in temperature that triggers their flowers to turn from white to pink or red in the Autumn.
Pauls jobs for the month Flower Garden
n Now’s the time to prune spring flowering shrubs, such as Philadelphus, Weigela n Cut back penstemons to just above a bud to encourage more flowers n It is best to cut flowers from the garden early morning with a sharp secateurs. They will keep longer if you cut at an angle and immerse straight into a bucket of water or vase. n Trim holly, yew and conifer hedges. n Feed dahlias once a week with a liquid tomato feed. You will need to stake taller varieties and pinch out the growing tips of smaller types to encourage bushy growth n Divide up clumps of overcrowded bearded iris to reinvigorate them.
Vegetable and Fruit Garden n Harvest your garlic and onions as soon as the leaves start to yellow and die back. n Mulch rhubarb once the harvesting of the stalks is over n Give your gooseberries and currant bushes a prune after harvesting their fruit.

GARDEN SERVICES
n Thin out the fruits on your fruit trees to produce good sized crops. This also helps to prevent brown rot. n Tackle blackfly on broad beans by pinching off any affected growing tips n You can harvest garlic once the foliage dies down. n Pinch out the tips of runner beans when they reach the top of the canes n Thin out beetroot seedlings to around 5cm apart to ensure your beetroots grow to a decent size n If you are growing outdoor tomatoes then it is a good idea to cut back the main growing stem when you have around 4-5 trusses.
General Maintenance n Keep the hoe going ,in dry weather the weeds will die n Keep bird baths topped up n Look out for aphids and rub them off by hand n Use left over water in a freshly boiled kettle to trickle over any weeds in your block paving this should kill them in a few days n Remove Tree suckers from the base of trees
Lawn Maintenance n Regularly cut the lawn but don’t scalp it instead keep the height of the mower fairly high
This months poem... “What has happened to summer, That’s what I want to know. Is she on a vacation Who knows where did she go? Tell, what was she wearing; A zephyr breeze and rosebud Or grass and wild berry? Could she be honeymooning With spring or early fall Or has she gone so far away She’ll not return at all? “ Dorothy Ardelle Merriam One July Summer

JULY’S 5 MONEY SAVING FRIDGE & FREEZER TIPS F
ridges and freezers are some of the biggest power consumers in households (especially when used inefficiently), accounting for about 17% of all domestic energy used in the UK. EcoFrenzy show you a few simple methods to save money, energy and the environment when using them.
1
2
Select your fridge’s optimum temperature
Clean the condenser coils on your fridge
of 4C (and -18C for a freezer). Power consumption increases dramatically at lower temperatures. Setting your freezer at -25C, can waste as much as 10% of energy, costing you an extra £9 per year (30kg CO2).
Unplug the unit and gently brush or vacuum the coils at least twice a year, improving efficiency by up to 30%. Also ensure there is space between your refrigerator and wall to maintain good air circulation.
3 Check the refrigerator and freezer door seals
Your refrigerator could be wasting a huge amount of energy if worn or loose. Use a thin piece of paper to check the seal at different locations, if it moves easily you may need to change the seal.
4 Let food cool properly before putting it away If you can’t be bothered to wait until it cools down before popping it into your fridge or freezer, then get ready for bigger electric bills and an increased CO2 imprint.
EcoFrenzy is a not-for-profit organisation founded by Tony Whittingham and Simon Dry. If you have any queries please visit www.ecofrenzy.com/contact-us or email tony@ecofrenzy.com 64 | JULY 2018
These ideas can save you £££’s! For more ideas on saving money & the environment visit ecofrenzy.com
5 Practice smart habits
(a) Open your refrigerator less frequently (b) Leave the fridge door open for 10 secs and it can take up to 40 mins to return to its original temperature! (c) Keep your freezer at least 75% full (d) Defrost regularly.

VISIONARY NEW STEM SCHOOL OPEN TO STUDENTS ACROSS WEST SUFFOLK
A brand new STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Academy will soon be joining County Upper as part of the Bury St Edmunds All-Through Academy Trust. Serving students from across West Suffolk, the STEM Academy (‘County STEM’) offers a visionary education model. “This is a unique vision where students are part of one Trust whether they follow the traditional academic or applied practical pathway, so having equal status.” Dame Elizabeth Sidwell, Former Schools Commissioner for England With the support of Dame Elizabeth Sidwell, and over twenty renowned STEM businesses, research institutes and the University of East Anglia, the Trust convinced the Department for Education that education in England needed to adapt to the 21st century. Now West Suffolk is set to reap the benefits! The new school is being built on the Trust’s Westley site ready for the opening in September 2019. The school will eventually offer education for students from years 9 - 13.
‘County Upper’ and County STEM – Two tracks, one destination Students who choose County Upper will follow the full range of subjects with a more academic approach to learning. There will still be STEM subjects taught in upgraded facilities. For many, County Upper’s outstanding reputation, with its proven ability to raise standards in teaching and learning, will continue to be a strong draw. But the traditional style of learning doesn’t suit everyone.
HOME + LIFESTYLE
Students who choose ‘County STEM’ will follow a rigorous curriculum focused more on STEM subjects. But just as important, they will be taught using a practical, applied approach to learning. Students will work with a broad range of companies and research centres in the earlier years with increasing specialisation into sixth form. Specific careers guidance, work experience and projects will feature throughout, culminating in apprenticeships and sponsored degree options. Whichever track they choose, students can access the Trust’s renowned enrichment programme so the destination is the same – a top quality broad-based education with results well above national averages. Finally, as both academies are in the same Trust, students will easily be able to change track at the end of year nine or twelve.
Want to know more? Visit http://www.burytrust.org/stem to take a virtual tour through ‘County STEM’, see our curriculum, find out who we are working with, the dates of our open events and to register to get more information as we move towards opening. The simplest route into the ‘County STEM’ is through our middle phase (years 5-8). You are welcome to come and see what our middle phase has to offer. By joining the Trust before year nine you will be guaranteed a smooth transition into the upper phase at either County Upper or ‘County STEM’.

Stand Your Ground or Walk Away? Someone asked me this week what the definition of bravery is. They are in the process of making some life changing decisions and wondered whether walking away from the security they have, and into the unknown to find a happier life, is an act of courage or foolishness. It was a good question. How do we make those big decisions for ourselves? Especially if we have never had to make major life choices before? Getting the things we want in life usually takes practice and persistence, we need to commit to the project at hand, then stick with it until we have
mastered the necessary skills to succeed. There comes a point however, when we inevitably ask ourselves –is this worth the sacrifice or effort involved? That is when a line must be drawn, ask yourself – 1. Does the reward outweigh the cost? 2. If I master this, will I be happy with it? 3. Can I use this skill to get me to something that makes me happy? 4. If things don’t improve, can I live with it?
5. How much worse do things need to get before I walk away? 6. Do I have another option? 7. Do I need help to get to where I want to be? I have chosen the word skill to demonstrate the point but you could substitute that word for your own situation such as your job, your relationship, starting a family, your living arrangements, the people you spend time with, the hobbies you have. It is good to evaluate all aspects of our lives on a regular basis to see if they work for us. Are you staying where you are because it’s safe but unfulfilling or are you really enjoying what you are doing with your life? Perhaps life choices shouldn’t be about bravery but about finding peace, trusting yourself to know what is right for you. The courage comes later, when taking that first step.

CHURCH NEWS
Christ Church MORETON HALL At Christ Church, Moreton Hall, we continue to be very concerned for every aspect of life on our estate. That is why we organise a food-bank collection, raise money for local, national and international charities, offer our building to be used by a variety of social services and welfare groups, and provide the pastoral care one would expect from a parish church. We also spend a great deal of time praying for our community to continue to prosper and grow and to know peace and security. We are very conscious that quite a number of households in addition to being homes are places of work. Many of our parishioners are running businesses from their dining room tables and this is an effort which we wish to support and help. Many of these businesses cannot afford to hire office space but nonetheless need to get off the dining room table to somewhere better. With that in mind, from Mid September we will be offering desk space in one of our rooms at Christ Church, Moreton Hall. There will be space for six desks, available Monday to Friday, 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. at ÂŁ20/desk/week. In return you will be able to work in a conducive, modern office environment with good lighting, power and Wi-Fi. We think this is a positive step (a stepping stone if you like), which will enable some people on the estate to
82 | JULY 2018
move to the next level of their business development. If you are interested, please contact the office either via our website or by telephoning 01284 725391. Some people might be thinking this is not a particularly spiritual activity for the church to be doing. However, whenever I look at the Gospels I see that Jesus always did the thing that somebody most needed to have happen to them. Certainly, there were financial distributions to the poor as well as restoring broken bodies and sight and hearing to the blind and deaf. Jesus said it is more blessed to give than to receive. We hope by offering this office space the money we generate will go to funding a youth and children’s worker for the estate. If that can happen I think we will all benefit twice over. None the less what we are trying to do is help people’s businesses prosper and to take away some of the tensions that running a business from home can bring to family life. Therefore, I ask you to pray for us as we start this new venture that we will be blessed in doing it and people will be helped by receiving it.
With every good wish, Yours sincerely,
Revd. Canon Jonathan Ford. Minister Christ Church Moreton Hall

THE CASE OF THE FRIGHTENED LADY (Drama) Building on the phenomenal decade long success of The Agatha Christie Company, which sold over two million tickets around the UK, comes a new thrilling chapter. Following this year’s acclaimed production of Ruth Rendell’s A Judgement in Stone, The Classic Thriller Theatre Company returns with a brand new adaptation from the legendary “King of the detective thriller”, Edgar Wallace – the brains behind one of the most iconic films of all time, King Kong. When Inspector Tanner is called in to investigate a ruthless murder at Mark’s Priory, the grand ancestral home of the Lebanon family, he quickly discovers that nothing is quite as it seems. As Tanner moves closer to the heart of the mystery he uncovers a shocking and closely guarded secret. Widely recognised as the most popular writer of the early 20th century, Edgar Wallace’s gripping page-turners are regarded as the bedrock of the modern thriller and The Case of the Frightened Lady remains one of his most celebrated works. Adapted for film several times, this is your chance to catch this chilling, captivating and complex thriller live on stage. We were all keen to go and see that latest instalment of the Jurassic films as there is a certain nostalgia to them! This certainly didn’t disappoint. It is set 3 years on from the previous Jurassic World film and the humans have left the dinosaurs to roam free in the park on Isla Nublar. The volcano that the island is sitting on has become active again and there is a big international debate over whether humans should intervene and save the de-extinct dinosaurs or allow mother nature to do its business and, again make them extinct. Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) is now the head of a Dinosaur Protection league and is working to protect the species and have them relocated. Eli Mills (Rafe Spall) who runs the Lockwood Estate for elderly Sir Benjamin Lockwood (James Cromwell) who was Hammond’s previous partner, tricks Claire in to tracking down Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) to help her track ‘Blue’! Eli has less than honest motives, leading him in to the ‘baddy’ role perfectly. The film certainly doesn’t disappoint on the action and jumpy side and ends with potential for more! Overall myself and my 3 boys really enjoyed this film. The story seemed slightly disjointed in places and I’m not convinced that my 6 year old completely understood exactly what was going on all the time but we were all entertained and, if you enjoy Jurassic World films, you won’t feel disappointed you went to watch it!
