DOG FOULING
I must congratulate those dog owners who have been clearing up after their dogs, there has been a remarkable difference lately with the amount of foul left lying around, however there are certain people still thinking that there is a Poo fairy out there who will clear up after their dogs, one in particular who gets out early in the morning and lets their dog foul opposite the bus shelter on Symonds road you will get caught and there is an £80 fine waiting for you.
Youth Club Now that we have the brighter nights the club is picking up, the kids are outside playing football and other games, not so many on their IPhone’s or X Boxes, there has been a request for us to change the night but is seems whatever night we choose it conflicts with other events, so we will stick to Tuesday night. Don’t forget the Suffolk Library, Moreton Hall which will be in the club every Tuesday 10:30am until 1:30pm. Lots going on so come along and support it.
Vandalism
Sadly, once again the estate has a return of idiotic vandalism from disfiguring election posters to the dangerous act of breaking beer bottles on the football field, kicking down fences and general anti-social behaviour, why, when they have had a few beers can’t they just go home peacefully and respect other people’s property, it’s not just the damage but the cost of repairs or replacing the damaged property. Please if any of you see idiots damaging property contact the police on 101 the nonemergency number report it. Let’s stop the mindless vandalism and make our estate safe for all concerned. Respect for every ones property. While I am on the subject of property, you may have read that over the past three weeks several villages have been hit by burglaries, in one case a shotgun and a laptop was taken from one house. These burglaries have taken place during daylight hours so make sure your house is secure when you go out windows closed and sheds locked. On the estate one lady has had three cycles stolen from her back garden, again, secure everything in your garden.

Hey, Prestoe!
Last month, I was invited along for a one-on-one with Andy Prestoe, Head of our new high school Sybil Andrews. Having been there during the building phase and not knowing what to expect, I can honestly say that it is a very impressive facility. In just a few short months the team has built an amazing community spirit between the teaching staff and pupils. As we saw when Sybil Andrews used the old St James’s Middle buildings in their first term, it isn’t the box they teach in that makes the school, it is the people who occupy it and this was evident in the brilliant work on show in every room. I must admit, however, that I also had an ulterior motive for visiting. Sybil Andrews is administered by the Samuel Ward Academy Trust. This means that rather than the local authority or a church group running the finances and operations, it is an academy. We do have some choices as to how Sebert Wood and Abbots Green primarys are run moving forwards, so I took the chance to grill Andy on his experiences. I’ll be taking this vital information back to Sebert Wood at our next governor’s meeting. Anti-Social Bench Organisation Some members of the community met this month to discuss the “pod” bench at the community centre field. Recently, late drinking has been having an impact with local vandalism, including broken glass on the football field where kids play. Whilst some want the area taken away, we felt there should be places where our young people can be welcome and without wanting to push them elsewhere, we have decided to spruce the area up instead. Frank and I will be paying for some works and the bushes have already been trimmed to make the area safer. I hope those who use the space on Friday and Saturday nights can respect the place or even get involved themselves.

Trevor Beckwith was re-elected as the County Councillor for Eastgate and Moreton Hall Wards at the County Council elections on the 4th May. The Votes cast were as follows: Trevor Beckwith Independent 1,050 Votes Pete Thompson Conservative 924 Votes Elle Zwandahl Labour 308 Votes Chris Lale Liberal Democrat 255 Votes Congratulation to Councillor Trevor Beckwith on his re-election and it is nice to see a choice of candidates from across the political divide seeking to represent the area. Unfortunately, the McDonalds saga continues. We understand the recommendation was for refusal but comments are still awaited on the McDonalds traffic assessment and an extension of time has been agreed till mid-June. MHRA feel this is a totally inappropriate location and strongly oppose the application. MHRA are having a stall at the Abbotts Green Summer Fayre on Saturday 24th June and as always are happy to take up matters of concern on behalf of all residents. Cliff Hind and I were invited to meet with the Strategic Business Manager and the Junior Road Safety Officers at Abbots Green School where the pupils who were the Junior Road Safety Officers explained how they encouraged parents and visitors to park safely and their use of coloured stickers to praise, tell off or encourage better parking by all concerned. Parking is difficult in some areas particularly around Abbots Green and Sebert Wood so please park considerately and do not block other people’s access or park on verges. We have had a complaint about the amount of dog fouling in Natterers Wood. Please make sure you clean up after your dog wherever you are on the estate especially if walking through Natterers Wood and deposit the waste in the dog waste bin.
a merger between St Edmundsbury Borough Council with Forest Heath District Council. They work together as West Suffolk Council with one Chief Executive and one set of officers so why the need to merge at all? Will it mean fewer councillors representing a larger area? Will it remove local knowledge? Will it involve members voting on subjects or proposals where they don’t know the local area and personalities involved? Most important will it cost us all more in Council Tax?? Is politicisation of local government a good thing? Is the current cabinet system a good thing where decisions are taken by the few? Cabinet Papers will have been published by the time this article appears. There is a joint meeting at the end of May to consider a scoping paper and a council discussion of a business case in Mid-June to decide what to do. There is an engagement period proposed between mid-June and the end of July. If the decision is to become one council then the approval of the Secretary of State has to be obtained and if approved then there would be elections for the new council; in May 2019 when elections would be due anyway under the current system. The likelihood is there will be ward boundary changes as well which would involve further consultation. Let your 3 Borough Councillors for Moreton Hall Ward on St Edmundsbury Borough Council have your views and thoughts. Rougham Control Tower Aviation Museum International Location and Our Past How emotional can you become over history? At the Control Tower we are seeing more visitors who have very personal links to the airfield. This last month has seen relatives; supporters and veterans come to the museum from all parts of the globe. Locally, regionally, nationally and Internationally – Moreton Hall to Las Vegas!! Family groups, touring parties and personal appointments have brought relatives with real stories of how the airfield affected their fathers or grandfathers. We had the honour of receiving all these visitors and we have more coming in the next few weeks. Our program for the year is expanding. New dates have been added from ‘corporate evenings’ to another ‘Fly-In’ (see below) Our public meetings on the last Tuesday of the month will now have a speaker bringing personal memories of the airfield or interesting related topics. This month, 30th May, will be Mr. Gerry Travers with ‘Rougham, the Americans and Me’, his personal recollections of the airfield and more. Ickworth’s Wool Fair
From sheep dog and shearing demonstrations to crafts, archery and delicious local produce, the annual Ickworth Wool Fair is set to be the busiest one yet.
Marquess of Bristol was elected the first president of the Suffolk Sheep Society, which still exists today.
