McDonalds Some good news on this front, Suffolk County Council Highways department have refused permission on the following grounds, traffic congestion, under-provision with parking spaces for the restaurant and existing hotel as well as visibility. McDonalds have gone away again to attempt to revamp their application, however they tried to update their application before by window dressing it and that did not impress the planning authority. It is now in the hands of our planners, having been refused by the Town Council and Suffolk Highways it would appear McDonalds have an uphill battle on their hands. Fingers crossed they might go elsewhere.
YOUTH CLUB
Getting ready for the summer, we have four people so far who are interested in helping out during the holiday period. We propose to open the club some weekdays during the summer holidays so that families can come along and have fun with their children. We have a kitchen, three toilets and a lot of games and equipment. Having said we have
four volunteers or helpers already we do need more. The youth club opens for our 8 to 15 year olds every Tuesday 6.30 to 8.30 pm we would like to see more children use the club, so instead of sitting at home on the computer come along meet new friends, let off steam and enjoy yourselves. Please note the youth club is closed during school holidays. That’s it until next time take care, Frank Warby MAY 2017 | 11

Moreton Hall News...
from Cllr Peter Thompson
Developments on developments The new building at the fringes of our area continue apace. I recently conducted a resident’s survey, where the second biggest concern (after potholes and transport) was the provision of affordable housing. I recently held a meeting with Taylor Wimpey with this in mind. We can expect some affordable housing provision next to the Flying Fortress in phase 3 of their build next year.
SWAG
VANDALISM
I’m not giving these idiots any more publicity if I can avoid it. More cars were damaged last month, this time around the Sebert Wood area. One victim had just lost her mother and is understandably very upset. If you know who the vandals are, you know what to do.
I was lucky enough to be invited to a meeting of our local Stroke Working Age Group at Hillside last month. This entirely self-funded group aid those who have suffered a stroke back to work with the aid of fellow sufferers. I have supported some of this year’s meetings with my locality budget. Please get in touch moiralawson@talktalk.net if you are able to help or if you have a donation. 14 | MAY 2017
Election Lag
A quick note. As there has been a general election called, our locality budget funding suspension has been extended. This will mean we cannot fund local groups until after purdah has ended, which is now 9th June.

Thank you for continuing to bring your concerns to us, by way of e-mail, letter, word of mouth and attendance at our Committee Meetings. Web Site We have enlisted a web designer and are presently putting the final touches to it. We hope it can be launched very soon, so you can keep up to date with our latest news and to contact us. Town Centre Master Plan Both Robert and I have attended presentations on this. MHRA organised one such presentation on 10th April to which about 50 residents attended. By the time you read this, the public consultation will have finished and all the questionnaires sent back for analysis. One topic that was raised at most of these meetings, was the need for something like park and ride, so as to minimise the need to drive into town. We consider this a worthwhile project as it will support our case for better transport links and infrastructure, within and outside our town. We will continue to follow its’ progress until the final version is published later this year.
A14 Rookery Junction/Relief Road I attended a meeting on this, where we were informed that the possible completion date will be September this year. Abbots Green School Fete Saturday 24th June MHRA will be attending this. We ask residents with saleable bric a brac to bring it along on the day. All proceeds will go to MHRA funds as membership is free to all Moreton Hall residents. Finally Summer seems to be on the way and this is an ideal time to get out and explore, if you haven’t tried the walk/run route I urge you to do so, perhaps starting and finishing at our local shops! There is a handy route map beside the subway. If you have any issues or concerns we may be able to help with contact secretarymhra@gmail.com or attend our next committee meeting at the Community Centre on Thursday 11th May 2017 at 19 30 (ask in the bar which room we are in) Cliff Hind Chairman MHRA

Rougham Control Tower Aviation Museum – Control Tower
Rougham Control Tower Aviation Museum
Last month (April) I posed the question - How many people know we have a piece of aviation history on our doorstep? Well, what a great response! Our first Open Weekend had over 50 visitors and we even opened on the Bank Holiday Monday. A very excited four years old (nearly five) identified a B-17 without prompting and yet a more senior gentleman told of airfield experiences from his childhood. An amazing contrast of youth, spanning some 75 years. r The airfield from the Control Towe ‘Glass House’
Recent visits: Pre-season Welcome – representatives of local businesses, developers from the commercial and residential sites and local councilors enjoyed a tour, slide presentation and light buffet. Members of Bury Abbey Rotary Club also enjoyed a similar evening. Two American visiting groups enjoyed great spring sunshine whilst touring the museum. Our museum commemorates all those service personnel who sacrificed there all for our freedom. There were over 1000 fatalities and in excess of 800 injured linked to the airfield. As visitors leave we see people reflecting on what they have seen and learned. This memorial certainly touches people’s hearts. Our next large event is the Bank Holiday Weekend, Saturday May 27th and Sunday 28th Fly-In ‘Cessna Type’. The Museum will be open both days – and on the Monday. 68 | MAY 2017
So, now to a request for assistance:Three ‘asks. 1) Can you please give any time to help at the museum – we have a list of ‘posts’ volunteering – making and serving tea/coffee (and cake), making cakes, behind the scenes jobs etc? 2) We are having a ‘Mega Draw’ for the 25th celebration year. 25 major and 25 minor prizes – can you please donate a prize? 3) Our main event of the year ‘Echoes of the Past’ will be on Sunday August 6th. If you have a ‘trade stand’, craft stall, military vehicle, classic car or other ‘fundraiser’ and would like to be involved please contact us. (Places limited so please get in touch soon). We are indebted to all our supporters for the help they provide, be it in services or financial sponsorship. We have an open membership window so please come and join us, either as an individual or corporately. The new road development is nearing completion. We hope to have a direct route from the Moreton Hall Estate – Rougham Tower Avenue, within the next few weeks. Please refer to the local press and our website for current information. The following dates already planned. Open – Sundays April 10am – 4pm till 29th October. We are able to offer additional dates and times by appointment. Three main dates - in conjunction with the Airfield (supported by Rougham Estates) and Skyward Flight Training: Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th May Fly-In ‘Cessna Type’ with the Museum open. JUST ADDED – Wednesday 21st June (Longest Day) Airfield Fly-In - Museum open. Sunday 6th August – Museum ‘Echoes of the Past’ This is our main 25th Celebration and will also include an Airfield Fly-In Sunday 17th September – Fly-In ‘Piper Type’ aircraft with the Museum open. CHURCH NEWS
Christ Church MORETON HALL Easter is over! But did the first Easter happen? The facts are that the most famous man in Israel at the time, who was instantly recognized by all, was cruelly tortured for 24 hours then put to death on a cross. His death was confirmed by the Romans. He was enclosed in an easily recognized private tomb by his friends. This tomb was sealed by a huge stone and guarded. On the morning of the third day the guards were gone, the huge stone had been removed and there was no body in the grave but the cloths remained. Then he was spoken to, touched, fed and seen by people on many occasions. No one could have replaced him he was too famous. No man so badly injured could have survived, broken out and presented himself as whole. The Disciples did not steal the body and then go to their deaths for a lie. The Romans and the Jews would have produced the body if they could. If all that is true you have to accept Jesus rose from the dead Easter is over or is it? People assume once the Bank Holiday is over, so is the story. That is not what the bible says. It states that for the next 40 days Jesus was seen all over Israel. The last encounter was when he was seen to return to heaven, a special day we call Ascension. In those 40 days some of the appearances included Mary and the women at the tomb, the two travelling to Emmaus, Simon Peter, all the eleven disciples together and, five hundred people at one time, and James his brother. After the 40 day he was seen by Paul on the road to Damascus. Then over the next 2000 years there have been many other encounters usually in visions but not all. At 82 | MAY 2017
Christ Church Easter is not over for us in three different ways. First, we believe Jesus is raised in our hearts and we sense his presence and power as we seek to change our lives and live as He wants. Many of us, including me would say, we know Jesus is raised in our hearts because he is with us now. Second, his death and resurrection inspire us to serve. So in Christian Aid week, 14 – 21st May, we will be doing lots of things including a house to house collection to raise money for those in desperate need. Please give generously if you can, and welcome the collectors who do a great, but tough job. Third, we celebrate the 40 days and then at the end we have 9 days of prayer called a Novena. This is part of the Archbishop of Canterbury’s prayer appeal “Thy kingdom come”. Last year 5 million people got involved and this year it is expected to top 80 million globally. Christ Church will be open most days from the 25th May to 4th June at 8-9am in the morning at 8-9pm each night with services as well. Look out for more details on our Facebook page and church posters, and send in your prayer requests. Easter is not an event that may have happened, for the Christian it is a living reality in our hearts. It gives us power and purpose for today. It gives hope for the future because we know that because he is raised, one day we too will rise. On that day we will join him in heaven forever. Easter is not over until that last day comes.
With every good wish, Yours sincerely,
Revd. Canon Jonathan Ford. Minister
