http://tag.microsoft.com/

GETTING STARTED VISIT HTTP://TAG.MICROSOFT.COM/

This site will allow you to set up and create your own Tags for use in your publication. Step 1 is click Create Your Own Tags.

Next, you will visit a page that explains more about what Microsoft Tag can do and how it can be implemented. It is recommended that you see what others have done and explore this site to spark ideas and new ways that you might use this technology. After learning more about Microsoft Tag Step 2 is click

You will be asked to log in or to set up a Windows Live ID. Chances are that you will need to set up an account if you are reading this tutorial. Click Sign up and follow the directions. After you have signed up and confirmed your user name/password, you will log in to the Microsft Tag site.

When you have signed in, please click on the tab/button

This will open up the Tag Manager page and allow you to create and manage your Tags.

The Tag Manager page has an interface that allows you to view your created Tags in a list view. This allows you to quickly see the status of individual Tags. Click A new page will open and allow you to enter information to organize and create a Tag. Please note that the URL: section can be linked up to any site on the web, so please be careful to keep your user name/ password, confidential to avoid mishaps or unwanted content being shared. After entering all your information click Save.

You can now render your Tag for use in your publication. Click the Render icon that is associated with the Tag you’re creating.

A pop-up window will appear asking you to verify that you have read and are ready to follow the Implementation Guidelines that work with the Tag system to ensure it works properly. You can download the Guidelines here. Click Submit. Another pop-up window will appear giving you options for how you want your physical Tag to appear (size, file format, black & white, etc.). We recommend that you try downloading a few different versions and figure out what style works best for your needs. Obviously there are a few considerations (i.e. if you only have black & white pages in your publications then you probably do not want to download a color version, so you’d check the Render my Tag in black and white option). Microsoft has also created some how-to videos that you may want to view. You can watch those by clicking the appropriate link.

When you have rendered your Tag, you will have a file/graphic that will look similar to this (depending on the options you selected during the rendering process). This file is now ready for placement in your publication. Get the free mobile app for your phone

Below we have placed the Tag onto a page of Yearbook Discoveries and linked it to take the viewer to a fun YouTube video about folder organization.

SOME THINGS TO CONSIDER How am I going to use Microsoft Tag technology? Do I have the proper content hosted on the web for Tags to work correctly? Am I or is my administrator comfortable with allowing this type of technology into the school’s publication? Have I read and processed the Implementation Guide to ensure proper usage? Have I considered an alternative for people who want the extra content but are not smartphone users?
