MORITZ RIEDL I am an architecture master student living and studying in Innsbruck. My digital design skills and my way of creating narratives are my biggest strengths, but since drawing and model making accompany me my entire life they are also very important to me. So it was clear that I definitely want to work at the interface between analog and digital to create new kind of concepts and aesthetics.

For human species only seeming to be weird objects, these monoliths are showing their complexity in the interaction of life, time and weathering.

This project is about interweaving the residents of the village GaltĂźr with their constant danger of avalanches. The intervention tries to create a place for cultural and leisure activities, and bring this together with the tragic history. Always used as a passive pollar to protect the village from avalanches, the new structure negociates this concept of a strict border and tries to develop a slight gradient from built environment to untouched nature. The project is based on multi-layered agent systems both coded in processing and scripted in grasshopper.

‘ I n t r i c a t e Fa b r i c s ’ i s a p r o j e c t w h i c h deals with the correlation of expansion and border. By defining a porous border, the expansion of space kann slightly be controlled and therefore creates a dynamic relation between Inside and Outside. The Inside is a dense zone whose structured border becomes apparent on the distortions of the surrounding Outside. These distinctive intricacies therefore define new spaces beyond the border. As a result the Inside, the Outside and the Beyond are the three zones essential for the spatial concept. Out of this dynamic relation, changing spatial situations rise where either the Inside, the Outside, or the Beyond is more important in both meaning and expansion. The project tries to combine digital design strategies and analogous experimental design workflows to create new results beyond imagination.

INVERTED HOUSE academic project, summer 2018 exparch.Hochbau University of Innsbruck tutors: Thomas Mathoy, Peter Massin students: Claudia Bär, Moritz Riedl
Inverted house is a project which deals with both conceptual and constructional issues. On the one hand the house closes itself towards the environment and on the other hand it creates relations between the spaces inside. The rooms work like a chain of functionalities which wind like a spiral to the top. Slight lighting and the massive concrete walls create a unique experience of this conceptual residential building.

This is a research project about the italian architect Othmar Barth. He was one of the essentials for the development of south tyrolean modernistic architecture. His projects are iconic for its organically shaped roofs and also for the typical material compositions. These are outstanding for their different surfaces, structures and haptics. In this material aspect lays a special interest which was investigated paradigmatic with the Schigymnasium in Stams. Therefore we investigated the project’s materiality in connection with functionality, guidance and spatial impact.

REACTIVE R O P E WAY academic project, summer 2017 i.sd University of Innsbruck tutors: Daniel Bolojan, Chris GĂźnther students: Raphaela Haller, Hannah Pinggera, Moritz Riedl
Reactive ropeway is an alternative concept for the new ropeway station at the Patscherkofel in Innsbruck which was built in 2017. The concept deals with an agent-based approach for designing the topstation, to create an environmentally aware structure. With locally defined rules the agentsystem should react on different environmental influences like avalanches, wind and sun shading. The programme of the project contains the actual entry and exit area for the mountain tourists, and also a restaurant with a sundeck. These environmental and functional aspects drove the design decisions to develop a proper concept. The structure is based on environmenntally aware agent systems, controlled to generate different facade conditions.

‘A V i l l a i m Wa l t h e r p a r k ’ i s a p ro j e c t dealing with Urban Atmospheres and the attempt to rebuild, rethink and resize them into one single building. Thinking the Building as a smallscale City and the City as a space of different Events and unique Feelings, special urban ensembles are being extracted and compressed into this small-scale City as an atmospherical
journey through Innsbruck. Placed into a Residential Building, the ensembles work as the internal public voids and the apartments as the private solids the voids are embedded in. By reducing the functionality of the Apartments to the minimal needs on the one hand and expanding the circulation to a free-of-purpose, diversive zone on the other hand, social housing is thought in a new collective way. link to interactive presentation board: h t t p s : // x d . a d o b e . c o m / v i e w / e 4 4 b a 1 4 5 cc95-40b9-987f-d44202891371b118/?fullscreen
DREAMING REALITY academic project, summer 2019 studio3 University of Innsbruck tutors: Judith Widauer s t u d e n t s : Fa b i o We i n z e t t e l , M o r i t z R i e d l
This fictional project is about a humanoid species on a planet in a galaxy far away. This species lives in a virtual network and therefore does not know either things are real or just dreams. This network, which looks the same for everyone is filled with fragments of their personal fantasies and dreams. The constant overload of data lets them enforce a revolution, a revolution of being.
FRAGILE6 PA H O E H O E B E AU T Y This project is both a design studio an real project and exhibition. The main purpose was to design a completely bio-degradable robotic 3d printed landscape out of soil. After designing the installation, main focus was on the fabrication and all the subelements of the installation and performance.

Natural digitalism is the design project belonging to the ARS Electronica exhibition. The aim of the studio was to develop a proposal for the festival. Many different strategies were tried out and refined. After working in groups of two, the second half of the term was more about finding one final proposal with all its details. Therefore logistics, structural aspects and also a curatorial concept had to be figured out.
