The NERPF said that these incidents are “just the tip of the enormous amount of discrimination that the people of the north east have to face, and are facing all over the country, especially in the

national capital.” While welcoming steps taken by the central government in setting up a panel and assurances given by the Delhi Chief Minister, the NERPF felt that these steps are “too late and too little.” It asserted that the Government of India must come up with concrete steps to ensure that discrimination of people of the north east is addressed as a national issue,

“instead of making piecemeal announcements from time to time.” The party extended its support and solidarity to the victims, their families and the people who have been “peacefully protesting in the most civilized and democratic manner.” It demanded that the Government of India take immediate steps to set up state-of-the-art modern educational institutions, in all spheres, within the north eastern region. It further called for creation of infrastructure and economic policies backed by concrete action, which will create education and job opportunities for the youth within the region. The NERPF urged that immediate justice be delivered and that severest form of punishment be handed to the culprits involved in these “inhuman crimes.” The NERPF stated that these cases have “hurt the sentiments of the millions of people in the north eastern region and shamed the reputation of the world’s largest democracy.”
