In what could be seen as a significant development which could give a more concrete shape towards the full-fledged formation of the Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC), leaders of the constituent units of NTC, Central Nagaland Tribal Council (CNTC) and Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization (ENPO) attended the celebration of Tuluni festival at Khehokhu village near Dimapur. The festival was hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Hokiye Yepthomi

GB of Khehokhu village. Hokiye is also the President of Western Sumi Hoho. The celebration saw in attendance a galaxy of leaders mostly the Presidents and office bearers of CNTC, ENPO, Ao Senso Telongjem Dimapur, Lotha Hoho Dimapur, Chakhesang Public Organization, Konyak Union, Phom People’s Council, Khiamniungan Tribal Council, Yimchunger Tribal Council, United Sangtam Likhum Bumji, Chang Khulei Setshang, Kuki Inpi, Sumi Hoho and Western Sumi Hoho. It was learnt that representatives

of Angami Public Organization were also in touch with the host but could not attend the celebration. NTC Convenor, Pius Lotha said the celebration of Tuluni at Khehokhu has become a “very auspicious occasion” as representatives of all the tribes of Nagaland were present. He said that the NTC was formed to protect the Nagas of Nagaland following the inclusion of a tribe from Manipur as a recognized tribe in Nagaland. He pointed out that Nagaland state was on the verge of attaining 50 years of statehood but regretted

that Nagas have not been able to understand each other and said Naga society has been “sickened.” Stating that there was relative peace in the state prior to statehood, Pius lamented that the Nagas today were directionless. “The demand for sovereignty and integration has been rejected by the Government of India. Now, what next?” Pius queried and said it was the time for Nagas to rise up. He said the objective of the NTC was also to give shape to the directionless stage of the Naga society today. “Our aim is also to clean the floor of Nagaland tribes and bring about understanding,” he said. He was optimistic that through forgiveness, reconciliation could be brought about among the tribes of Nagaland. ENPO Advisor and Parliamentary Secretary for Fire Brigade, Relief & Rehabilitation, Powang reminded of the “Unity first, Solution second” slogan started by the ENPO but that other tribes had taken exception to it. DIMAPUR, JULY 6 (MExN): The ruling Naga Peoples Front (NPF) has responded to the several allegations made by the Opposition Congress by pointing out that “sound political ideology, good governance, genuine development and acceptable leadership” was responsible for the party returning to power for the third consecutive time. A press note from the NPF Press & Media Bureau also stated that the Congress had no moral right to speak of transparency and corruption when it runs a Central government that has been judged by the country as the most corrupt ever. “Scams like the 2G scam, the helicopter scam, the commonwealth games scam and the coal scam are just a few examples of how the country’s resources and money is being looted. Money from these scams must have also reached Nagaland during the elections,

‘Financial health of State is safe & secure’

The ruling NPF has dismissed the allegations about the financial bankruptcy of the State. A press note from the NPF Press and Media Bureau has assured people that the financial health of the State is safe and secure, and it is monitored by the RBI and the Government of India, and there is absolutely no cause of alarm. “There is no question of salaries, pensions and medical reimbursements not being paid, as all functioning of the State’s machineries are running smoothly”.

but the Congress must realise that Nagas cannot be purchased”, the NPF stated. Pointing out that the Congress party’s constant harping on use of money in elections by the NPF did not hold any water, the NPF stated that the Congress President had himself admitted that the high command had sent money to Congress candidates to the scale which was never before done. “Money from Delhi and from neighboring Congress ruled states was poured into Nagaland to destroy the NPF, but the Naga peo-

ple held firm and stood by a party that voices the desire of all Nagas”. The NPF has alleged that money was shifted in from neighboring states, through union ministers and central leaders including the Arunachal Chief Minister, to all corners of the State, and the Central forces were misused to favour the Congress party, “but sound political ideology, good governance, genuine development and acceptable leadership was the winner in the highest court of democracy”. Poultry ban to continue till syndicate destroyed, dealers arrested

DIMAPUR, JULY 6 (MExN): The Dimapur Naga Students Union (DNSU) made it clear that unless the poultry syndicate is destroyed and all the dealers arrested and the price of poultry stabilized as per the rates in neighbouring Assam, the DNSU, as per the resolution adopted by ACAUT shall continue to enforce the ban on poultry. This was stated in a press note issued by K. Mhachio Lotha, President and Petevito Nakhro, Speaker of DNSU. According to the press note, during the course of enforcement of the ban, DNSU officials found out that many of the suspected illegal immigrant traders of poultry were openly selling their birds in the market under the patronage of Nagas. DNSU has reminded all concerned that instead of patronizing certain groups for petty gains, everyone should strengthen the hands of ACAUT in its endeavour to streamline unabated taxation in Dimapur. Anyone, both ‘protectors’ and traders shall be dealt with firmly if found violating the ban, the DNSU stated. DNSU also added that enforcing the ban on poultry was not the prerogative of DNSU, yet, circumstances in Dimapur had warranted that the apex body of students

in Dimapur takes up this job as part of its social responsibility. As such, all the traders are warned to comply with the request. It was mentioned that as an active member of ACAUT, DNSU had been entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing the implementation of ban on import and sale of poultry in Dimapur as imposed by ACAUT in its emergency meeting held on 20th June, 2013. According to the press note, the DNSU had warned traders time and again not to violate the ban which has been imposed to protest the formation of poultry syndicate under the patronage of UG organisations. “It’s a fact that the livelihoods of many Naga poultry farmers have been destroyed because of the machinations of illegal-immigrants controlled syndicate; like most of the commodities in Dimapur, it’s the poultry syndicate and not DMC which dictates the pricing of poultry in Dimapur”. Therefore, unless this syndicate is destroyed and all the dealers arrested and the price of poultry stabilized as per the rates in neighbouring Assam, DNSU shall continue to enforce the ban, it stated.
