DiMaPur, JaNuary 16 (MexN): The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) has strongly reacted to the allegations leveled by the Noke-led NPF that Chief Minister TR Zeliang and his wife were recipients of “illegal money” worth more than 78 crores of rupees. The CMO in a press statement issued by Karaibo Chawang, media officer to the Chief Minister, said the allegations by Noke Wangnao and G Kaito Aye of the “dissident NPF” against the Chief Minister of “corruption” citing “black money transfer” is a clear sign that the “dissident group” has exhausted all political arguments. “It also reflects their willingness to stoop down further by directing their campaign to a personal attack with false accusations,” it stated. Reiterating that neither the Chief Minister nor his wife holds any bank account overseas, Chawang said the Chief Minister is not a beneficiary of the funds and he invites the Government of India to initiate an enquiry into these allegations by any appropriate central agency. “Such enquiry needs to be initiated as early as possible so that the names of the Chief Minister and his wife are cleared from these false allegations,” the media officer said. Chawang also said “such forged and fabricated documents has been manufactured with the malicious intent of tarnishing the image of the Chief Minister and also reaffirms the conspiracy of his detractors to remove him from the chair of Chief Minister at all costs by resorting to all ille-

said Zeliang and the NPF leaders are scheduled to meet Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh, to apprise them of the latest political scenario in Nagaland state.

Shurhozelie refutes allegations

DiMaPur, JaNuary 16 (MexN): NPF president, Dr. Shurhozelie today expressed pain at the allegations leveled against him by the Noke-led NPF that he was supporting “the exchange of enormous amounts of black money” allegedly stashed in some foreign banks by the Chief Minister of Nagaland. The NPF stalwart in a press rebuttal said people of the State know that he had a long innings in public life and retired from electoral politics last year. Shurhozelie said only as recently as November 26, 2014, he was elected unopposed to the office of the President of the Naga People’s Front, the longest serving regional party in the country. “This is the kind of trust reposed in me by the leaders and public alike in the Naga society. During my entire career, I gal and foul means.” The CMO cautioned that the onus now lies on the person who produced the documents to prove their authenticity, failing which, “he would be liable to criminal proceedings for forgery and misleading the public.” It also requested the newspapers to refrain from “false aspersions being cast by people with no scruples as this will tantamount to defamation.” Chawang said that since the beginning of the “dissident activities” within the NPF to remove the Chief Minister from office, “the NPF party had always maintained that such a dissident move was initiated without any basis and in

rarely courted any controversy of this nature,” he stated. “Nagas know that my life is an open book. I served steadfastly to the cause of the people and public purposes. I am aware that those who support noble cause inevitably meet with attempts of stigmatization. The present allegation is one of such category. With all the force at my command, I stoutly refute these allegations,” he added. The veteran regionalist further commented that it is now in public light how Naga politics has sharply and amazingly shifted from the established order of decency to “such low levels of hitting someone below the belt on personal lines.” He appealed to the Nagas and the general public not to be swayed by “unfounded, baseless and unscrupulous statements of desperate and frustrated elements.”

complete violation of all Constitutional norms of the party and parliamentary decorum binding its elected legislators.” Further, it was added that the Chief M inister is confident the Naga public will “view this latest somersault as a desperate move to attain political advantage at all costs, even if it means perpetuation of absolute false hood.” Chawang said the leaders of the “dissident camp” initially confused their members that once the Governor reaches the State, they would approach him and form the government, which failed. “The second tactic was to convince their members that they were be-

ing called to Delhi by the Union Home Minister, but the Home Minister refused to meet them. When they failed in removing T.R. Zeliang as the Chief Minister and received information that the Cabinet on January 15th had recommended to the Governor for a Confidence motion, some of the dissident leaders and their supporters have come up with these baseless allegations to again confuse their members as well as their supporters,” the CMO added. Chawang assured that it would not be long before the people of the State see the real picture when the “trial of strength” recommended by the CM’s cabinet takes place.

Obey traffic rules, get chocolate Morung Express News Dimapur | January 16

Commuters of Dimapur were in for a surprise on Friday as the traffic police handed away chocolate bars for obeying traffic rules. The bizarre gesture was part of an initiative to enhance awareness on road rules. It was an initiative of Yes Bank, Dimapur, who approached the Traffic police with the idea for marking National Road Safety Week 2015 (January 11-17). The bank’s employees, along with traffic constables were stationed at the Clock Tower intersection to put into motion the plan, stated Dy. SP Traffic, Seyiesezo Peseyie, while describing it as a one of a kind initiative. No publicity campaign was done prior to the day in order to make it a surprise. The target group was two-wheelers as most riders do not comply with the ‘helmet rule’, it was added. Riders with helmets, crossing the intersection, were stopped and handed out chocolate bars along with pamphlets containing safety tips for two-wheelers. Peseyie said that it was incentive for complying with the norm, at the same time encouraging the riders. Those without helmets

were also stopped. Instead of issuing ‘challans’ (violation ticket) as penalty, the offenders were sensitized on the significance of traffic rules. “Offenders did not receive the chocolate bars but only the informative pamphlets,” Peseyie said on a lighter note.

Describing the reactions of the commuters, Peseyie said that some riders made u-turns to avoid being stopped, while those who could not straightaway took out documents expecting it was routine police check. Around 280 bars of chocolates and more than 900 pam-

phlets were given away during the awareness drive lasting some three hours. Queried on the mandatory norm for wearing of seat-belts and shoes by drivers, Peseyie said, “We need to create awareness first as many commuters are not aware of it,” while adding it would be looked into. Enhancing the effectiveness of the Dimapur traffic police is high on the agenda, Peseyie further said, adding equipping the traffic police on how to attend to injured commuters on an accident site would be of great benefit as “Traffic personnel are usually the first to respond to road accidents.” With a strength of 142 personnel, including Home Guards, the City Traffic Control Room, is barely managing to supervise vehicular movement in a town of narrow roads, ever increasing vehicles and importantly, rash driving. State Home Guards personnel make up almost half of the total. Besides the mandatory duties, the services of traffic constables are required even during private functions. The latter, Peseyie said, is but necessitated in order to maintain smooth flow of traffic in areas surrounding an event, for instance a wedding.
