Shürhozelie dismisses allegations as ‘childish’ Dimapur, January 23 (mExn): NPF president, Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu, has termed the latest allegations levelled against him by the NPF (Noke group) as “childish, unfortunate and shameful.” Reacting to the ten charges directed at him, the NPF president in a rejoinder said he does not find it necessary to go point by point, but to say that, on the whole, the charges demonstrated the frustration of the rival group and termed the allegations childish, unfortunate and shameful. “I have no ill feeling against anybody though some people, as it appears in the news, take me as their sworn enemy. I am going by the provisions of the Constitution to keep the Party on the safe side. I honestly feel I have not done anything wrong against anybody. My conscience is clear and I sleep well at night,” Shurhozelie said. He advised the rival group to keep some “matured gentleman” to man their publicity cell “because what we write today will go down to the history of our people. Let us be more reasonable and be broad minded.”

noke-nPf petitions eci CM accepts
Dimapur, January 23 (mExn): The NPF under the leadership of president, Noke Wangnao, and Legislature Party Leader, G. Kaito Aye, today submitted petitions to the Election Commission of India (ECI) in New Delhi and to the State chief electoral officer, informing them the election of a “new NPF president and the legitimate removal of the former president as per the laid down norms and procedures of the NPF Constitution.” NPF press and media cell (Noke group) in a press release said the party has also informed the ECI that Noke Wangnao is the legitimate president of the NPF and therefore the Cock
symbol and party nomenclature rightfully belongs to the NPF under Noke’s leadership. Both the petitions submitted in the office of the CEC, New Delhi and the CEO, Kohima have been officially received by both the offices, the medial cell said. Further, it informed that the NPF has issued show cause notices on why disciplinary action should not be taken against TR Zeliang, Yitachu, Y. Patton, CL John and Kiyaneilie Peseyie. “If they fail to reply satisfactorily to the Disciplinary Action Committee, appropriate disciplinary action shall be initiated against them,” the release added.
resignations
Kohima, January 23 (mExn): Nagaland chief minister, TR Zeliang, has accepted the resignation of five parliamentary secretaries and advisors with immediate effect, an official bulletin stated. The parliamentary secretaries and advisors whose resignations have been accepted are Er. Kropol Vitsu, Parliamentary Secretary, Art & Culture, Printing & Stationery; Torechu, Parliamentary Secretary Housing, Excise; E.E. The crisis within the Naga People’s Front over the issue of leadership has entered the third week even as there seems no end in sight to break the stalemate. Both the NPF groups headed by presidents Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu and Noke Wangnao respectively, are sticking to their guns and not budging from their positions. While the Shurhozelie group insists on ‘vote of confidence’ in the assembly to prove that chief minister TR Zeliang still has support of majority in the assembly, the Noke camp is adamant that the “minority government” led by TR Zeliang should pave way for smooth transition. Spokesperson of NPF (Shurhozelie group), Yitachu, reiterated that Chief Minister TR Zeliang still enjoyssupportofmajorityofthe 52-member Nagaland Legislative Assembly and that provision has not changed. “The leadership of TR Zeliang has never been challenged. If there is any issue of change of leadership, the right and appropriate way to go about is on the floor of the house either by moving vote of confidence or no-confidence motion,” the spokesperson said. Yitachu said that though the strength of NPF legislators outside the Assembly stands at 29, yet for all practical purposes, even the nine suspended NPF legislators have to abide by the party chief whip inside the Assembly. “Since they (suspended MLAs) contested and won the election
NBCC appeals for ‘highest wisdom’
To meet opposing sides of NPF today
The Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) has initiated a move to meet the two groups of the NPF in an effort to bring reconciliation and understanding between the groups. A senior representative of the NBCC team working in the peace effort disclosed that the team would be meeting both the NPF groups on Saturday, January 24 – first with NPF (Shurhozelie group) in Kohima at 10 am and later in the afternoon the NPF (Noke group) at Sovima in Dimapur. The representative
said both groups have in their press statements and rejoinders explained their respective positions on the present crisis within the regional party. “The crisis is an internal matter of the NPF Party and the Church has no say in this. But the Church is concerned about the consequences and further weakening of Naga society, which goes beyond the concern of the political party”, he said. “The Church is not taking any side. All we are seeking for is an ‘inspired solution’ that the present time demands to end the crisis”, the peace maker added. Appealing for “highest wisdom” from leaders of both groups, he expressed optimism that the crisis can be resolved amicably in true Christian spirit.
on Cock symbol, they have to abide by the order of the party chief whip in the Assembly,” he added. On the other hand, spokesperson of Noke-led NPF, I Imkong Imchen, said that the one logical solution to end the crisis would be to immediately dismiss TR Zeliang as chief minister and install Kaito Aye as the chief minister. Both the NPF groups agree that only the Governor can resolve the crisis, which has paralyzed normal government functioning in the state. “It is an issue involving the incumbent chief minister of the state and has to be resolved soon. The
Governor cannot avoid his constitutional obligation and responsibility,” Yitachu stated. “The crisis should not continue any longer. The ball is now in the Governor’s court and we hope he will apply his wisdom to solve the crisis,” Imchen said. So far, the State Governor, PB Acharya, has remained non-committal to the petitions of both the NPF groups to end the stalemate. On Thursday (January 22), the Governor, it was reported, told a delegation of Angami Public Organization that the crisis is an “internal party strife and is not ripe for his intervention as the constitutional head.”

Four frontline separatist groups in the region have called for a boycott of Republic Day and also a general strike from 9 pm January 25 to 6 pm January 26. Rebel groups in the northeast have for years boycotted national events and have staged violent attacks in the run-up to the celebrations. There has been a string of bomb blasts in Manipur triggered by rebels. “We are on full alert and shall see to it that we are able to foil any attempts by rebels to attack,” an Assam Rifles official said. The four rebel groups announced their boycott through a joint statement e-mailed to several media houses. The call has been given by the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA),

the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB), the Kamatapur Liberation Organisation and Coordination Committee (CorCom) - an umbrella organisation of major separatist outfits fighting for an independent state for the majority Metei community in Manipur. Moreover, the outlawed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council has also called for a 24-hour shutdown from 6 pm January 25 to 6 pm January 26 across the six districts of Khasi-Jaintia hills region in the eastern part of Meghalaya. Kohima, January 23 (mExn): Three vehicles which had “I AM ACAUT” stickers pasted on their windshields were vandalised at Pezieliecie and Kezieke Colony in Kohima around midnight of January 22. A press release from Sub–Divisional Police Officer & PRO, Kohima, Atu Zumvü informed that one gunshot each was found on the windshields of the vehicles Bolero, Maruti Alto and City bus. “All the three vehicles were found to have pasted ‘ACAUT’ stickers in their windshields and the unknown miscreant seems to have deliberately fired upon the ‘ACAUT’ stickers on close range resulting to damage of the windshields by the gunshots,” the release stated. According to the release, the only statement the residents of the localities could give to the Police was they heard the three gunshots around midnight. “Besides that, no other information regarding the mode of conveyance used by the unknown miscreants or the identity of unknown miscreant could be establish(ed) till the time of conducting preliminary investigation by the Police.” The police recovered three empty cases of 7.65 caliber used in .32 pistol and two bullet heads from the places of occur-

rence. A regular case is being registered in this connection for further investigation, the release added. Meanwhile, the Northern Angami Youth Organisation (NAYO) and Against Corruption and Unabated Taxation (ACAUT) Nagaland have condemned the incident. Expressing “revulsion” at such “insane destruction” of private property, the NAYO urged the “miscreants” responsible to sort out differences through various “matured and beneficial platforms” available and not by such “illogical acts of aggression and threats.” A press note issued by NAYO general secretary, Kekhrie Pfukha and president, Peter Rutsa further stated that citizens had informed NAYO that ACAUT stickers at times
are pasted on their private and commercial vehicles without their knowledge or consent. In this, NAYO requested organisations and individuals concerned not to indulge in such acts which can be considered as “encroachment and breach of privacy.” Sticking of bills of any kind on vehicles, be it private or commercial, without the knowledge and permission of owners can create misunderstandings, NAYO maintained. It also urged the law enforcing agencies to investigate the “criminal act” with all means available and safeguard both public and private properties. The NAYO also brought to the attention of the district administration and police department that many reports of “illegal consignments and anti social activities” are passing
right through check gates under Kohima as reported in the newspapers. “Bootleggers and ILP defaulters as well as migrant traffickers have been passing through Chumukedima and Peducha check gates like they are porous to criminals,” it alleged. “NAYO in fact wonder if at all the presence of excise personnel at various gates and locations is required.” While applauding both the district administration and police for providing security and prompt solving of many other cases, NAYO urged both the agencies to “re-focus” on the above two mentioned “loopholes.” In a separate press statement, ACAUT Nagaland expressed solidarity with the owners of the vehicles “who surely must feel their right to freedom expression has been robbed” and reminded the people “these acts are a direct affront to the values of democracy and freedom of expression of everyone.” ACAUT through its Media Cell further cautioned “there are forces out there that are working hard to subvert the values of freedom and thus it is important to denounce this attack by one and all.” Asserting that it stands against “all forms of terrorism,” the Media Cell declared it will stand for freedom of expression and democracy. “The voice of the people cannot be cowed down.”
