Governor urged to display ‘neutrality’ DIMAPUR, JANUARY 30 (MExN): The Naga Hoho has expressed concern over Nagaland Governor, PB Acharya’s move on Republic Day to address a gathering at Raj Bhavan in Hindi. A press note from the Naga Hoho, while welcoming the promotion and propagation of Hindi through schools and other institutions, however found it “unreasonable that the Governor should address a distinguished nonHindi speaking gathering in Hindi, fully knowing that the majority of them could not comprehend a single word of what was spoken.” It further expressed astonishment at the depiction of a Hindu Goddess on the official handout of the same function. “It is very much out of place that the image was used in a non-religious official function in a Christian dominated state. The Nagas are not against Hindus or Hinduism, but objects to this very particular action of the Governor which conveys a wrong controversial message,” it stated. The Naga Hoho urged the Governor to show “neutrality and sensitivity to the sentiments of the Naga public in future.”

• Blast was carried out at the direction of a PLA captain; and not by PREPAK • Two PLA cadres arrested in Manipur on January 23 and brought over to Dimapur
DIMAPUR, JANUARY 30 (MExN): Imphal valley-based PLA was behind the January 5 IED blast in Dimapur. Contrary to initial reports, it has been revealed that the blast was masterminded by the PLA. It was initially reported that another Imphal valley-based insurgent organisation – PREPAK was behind the explosion. Dimapur police established the PLA link based on the admission of Longjam Ojit Meitei – the man found injured at the blast site (Eros LaneGolaghat road junction). The Additional Superintendent of Police, Dimapur, in a media release, disclosed that Longjam’s admission resulted in the arrest of two other PLA cadres, who along with Longjam, had carried out the blast. They were identified as Maiban Biren Singh and Katuncha alias M. Jiban Singh, both hailing from Imphal East district. The duo was arrested in Manipur on January 23 and brought to Dimapur. According to police, Biren Singh was at the site of the explosion, while Katuncha had assisted in arranging transport to cross the inter-state border till Dimapur. The release further stated that the blast was carried out at the direction of one ‘captain’ Nungthomba Ingo alias Krishna of the PLA with the intention to disrupt the Republic Day celebration in Dimapur. Chronicling the events leading
up to the blast in Dimapur, the police said that Biren Singh had received three IEDs from two unidentified people (one man and a woman) at Saijang village in Thoubal district. On the morning of January 5, Biren Singh and Longjam along with the explosives proceeded towards Dimapur in a truck. The truck however broke down near Lairouching in Senapati district where they sought Katuncha’s help to arrange a backup vehicle. Katuncha along with a fourth person, identified as Elangbam Basanta, gave them a Maruti 800 (MN1A-4462) to make the trip to Dimapur, the police informed. They reached the targeted site of explosion (Eros Lane-Golaghat Road junction) at around 8:30 pm. One of the IEDs accidentally exploded when Longjam was planting it, prompting Biren Singh to flee the scene. “The same night, he caught a night bus and returned to Manipur,” police said. As admitted by the arrested persons, the police added that the IEDs were set to be detonated on January 6, January 25 and January 26 at three different locations - the garbage collection area at Burma camp below fly-over, the garbage collection area opposite Hotel Senti and the DMC dustbin at the Eros Lane junction. The other two IEDs found in the car were later neutralised by the Army’s Bomb Disposal Squad.

CMO claims PM ‘not interested’ in changing DAN III leadership
DIMAPUR, JANUARY 30 (MExN): The Media Cell of the Nagaland Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) today claimed that both the Prime Minister and the BJP President had “assured the Nagaland Chief Minister that...they are not interested in destabilizing the DAN Government, or changing the leadership of the present NPF-led DAN III Gov-
ernment headed by him.” The CMO further quoted the PM as having said to the Nagaland CM, “Don’t worry, I am with you.” This was stated in a response to recent allegations made by the NPF led by Noke Wangnao regarding the Chief Minister’s meeting with the Prime Minister. A press note from the media officer to the CM informed that “it is not customary for the PMO or President of BJP office to issue official statements about such meetings held at the request of the visitors. It is always the
group/ person who seeks the appointment to tell the waiting press fraternity the result or outcome of such meetings.” It further clarified that the “Prime Minister and the President of BJP had not stated that they are siding with this or that group in the NPF party internal dispute.” “The Chief Minister had met them, not to seek their support in the internal NPF party dispute; but to seek their re-assurance that they are interested in continuing the DAN, where the BJP has been an important partner right from the beginning.”
