‘No Helmet No Petrol’ to be implemented in Kolkata KolKaTa, July 9 (iaNS): A day after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her displeasure over twowheeler users not wearing helmets, Kolkata police on Saturday imposed a “no helmet no petrol” rule forbidding petrol pumps from selling fuel to motorcyclists without helmets. “No petrol pump within the jurisdiction of Kolkata police shall henceforth sell petrol to any such twowheeler rider who comes to the petrol pump riding a two-wheeler without helmet as well carries a pillion rider without helmet,” said a notification by the city police published on Saturday. Observing that there was a “manifold rise” in instances of bikers and pillion riders not sporting helmets, the notification said, “Immediate and stringent action needs to be taken in accordance with law, to have greater deterrence and for prevention of the same.” Launching a road safety initiative “Safe Drive Save Life”, the West Bengal Chief Minister on Friday had expressed alarm over rising accident deaths and called for strict adherence to traffic laws.

Has Modi govt compromised India’s sovereignty in Naga accord: Congress

NEw DElhi, July 9 (iaNS): The Congress on Saturday attacked the Narendra Modi government, questioning the Naga accord signed last year and wondered if the Centre had entered into an agreement with the NSCN(IM) “compromising India’s sovereignty and integrity”. The Congress also wanted to know if the Modi government had promised the Nagas a separate flag other than the Tricolour and separate passports other than Indian passports. The Congress attack follows an interview given by T. Muivah (82), General Secretary of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isak-Muivah), to The Hindu newspaper in which he said that the Nagas had not given up on their demand for sovereignty. In August 2015, the BJP government signed a framework agreement for the peace accord with NSCN(IM). Muivah, whose NSCN-IM signed the framework agreement with the government last year, said that a separate flag and passport for Nagas was

not just a ‘demand’ but a ‘right’ as the Nagas were never under Indian rule. Congress also said they would raise the issue in Parliament during the monsoon session. They demanded that the framework of the accord should be made public. “Has the Modi government entered into an agreement with NSCN (IM), compromising India’s sovereignty? Has the government agreed on a shared sovereignty of India for the Nagas,” asked Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala. “Press statements made by the NSCN (IM) general secretary talk of an agreement with Modi government questioning our integrity. This has stunned the nation,” he said. Surjewala further pointed out: “NSCN (IM) said a separate flag and passport for the Nagas was not just a demand but a right, as Nagas were never under Indian rule. He also said the framework is secret because until a complete settlement is done, some secrecy will have to be kept.” Surjewala said the Modi government must give details of the agree-

ment with the Nagas. He blamed the government for not taking into confidence the northeastern states before signing the agreement. “Whether the Modi government has or will take into confidence the elected governments of Nagaland, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur before entering into an agreement for ‘alteration of territories’ of these states,” he questioned. “Has the Modi government promised a separate flag for the Nagas other than the Tricolour? Has the Modi government agreed to give separate passports other than Indian passports? What are the details of this secret framework agreement entered into by Modi government,” Surjewala asked. “While the Indian National Congress fully supports finding a lasting peaceful solution to the Naga problem through the process of dialogue, it has to be compulsorily within the four corners of our constitutional framework without a whisper of compromise on India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” he said.

GuwahaTi, July 9 (MExN): The National Federation for New States (NFNS), North East chapter, has demanded that the BJP regime adopt a “clear cut” and “pragmatic” policy for creation of new states within the Indian Union. “Creation of new states will bring better administration and speedy development of the region,” stated a press statement from the NE chapter of the NFNS today following a meeting at Tribal Rest House in Guwahati. The demand for new states is not a new issue in India; some of them were started before independence and some after for a “self determined administrative region” in the form of a State under the Indian Union. The North East chapter of the Federation is a congregation of demands for Bodoland, Tripuraland, Kukiland and Karbi Anglong. The other demands in India include the creation of Vidarbha, Bundelkhand and Gorkhaland. These demands in the North East have particularly been raised for “asserting to protect and safeguard the ethnic identities of some of the ethnic communities of the North East region whose identities and existence are under constant threat due to external aggression and also to do away with the disparity in socio-economic development in some regions,” noted the press statement signed by Pramod Boro, President of ABSU and Joint Secretary of NFNS, Swapanajit Sanyal, Working President of Vidharbha Rajya Aghadi and Central Executive of NFNS, Hejang Haokip, President of the Kuki State Demand Committee and Central Executive of NFNS, Khorsing Teron, Chairman of Joint Action Committee for Autonomous State (JACAS) and Central Executive of NFNS, Gobinda Basumatary, Secretary General of NDFB (P) and Central Executive of NFNS, and Rakesh Boro, People Joint Action Committee for Bodo Land Movement and Central Executive of NFNS. The executive meeting of the NFNS, NE chapter resolved that the Government of India (GoI) must expedite tripartite talks with the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) and its allied organizations and the NDFB (P) which has “remained stagnant for the last one and half years,” failing which they

may be compelled to “launch a vigorous movement.” Its second demand urged the GoI to “initiate dialogue” with the United Peoples Front & Kuki National Organization to “resolve the issue of Kukiland Demand.” It also urged the GoI to expedite talks with JACAS to “resolve the demand of Karbi Autonomous State in Karbi Anglong.” Finally, it asked the GoI to “resolve the unsolved State Demand issue of Borok People of Tripura.” The NFNS, NE chapter, stated that contrary to what the BJP had promised couple of years back before coming to power, the regime is “destroying the very foundation of Democracy by elevating Corporate Houses to the epicenter of both economy and administration of India.” “Selling of oil fields of Assam and elsewhere of India to national and foreign private companies, allowing foreign companies to set up business establishments in India and giving absolute authorities of some areas of India to Corporate Houses by declaring those areas as Special Economic Zones are nothing but clear indications of total negligence to the backward and weaker sections of the Indian society,” noted the Federation, while condemning the “nefarious policies” of the ‘NDA regime.’ Given these policies, the NFNS wondered what the position of “indigenous people/investors” will be. “Mere development of infra-structure won’t make a country a developed one unless the government adopts a policy to develop the socio-economically backward and weaker communities of the country,” it maintained, also stating that the “digitalization of India” will remain “mere day-dreaming as long as the Government of India does not adopt a policy to impart quality education to each and every citizen of India.” Reminding that the present government has already advocated for creation of smaller states thereby making it imperative for it to take further steps, the NFNS NE chapter reiterated that the people demanding statehood “want to live as the part and parcel of the great Indian community with dignity and honour in our ancestral land under the provisions of the constitution of India. We want our identity with language and culture to be protected and ensured under the provisions of the constitution of India. We demand for adopting political decision on the issue which will pave way for an amicable solution.”

Sharing Stories: Lit Fest held at Baptist College, Kohima

Writers interact with students during the Literature Festival organized by English Department, Baptist College, Kohima on July 9. Morung Express News Kohima | July 9

The English Department of Baptist College, Kohima held its Literature Festival with the theme “Sharing Stories” at the college campus here on July 9. The small yet significant fest organised a variety of activities for literature lovers such as book fair, film screening, spoken word, conversation with writers, readers’ theatre, poetry reading etc. At the film screening, three short films were screened - When the Soul of a Nation dies, a poetry film by Pareshar Baruah, Mari, a short film on the novel, and The Story of a House, a video portrait by Sesino Yhoshü Dimasha and Sophy Lasuh Kesiezie. After the screening of the films, filmmaker Sesino Yhoshü Dimasha held a brief talk with the audience where students raised questions on her film, her take on television industry in Nagaland and her works

on film making. The film ‘The Story of a House’ is a five minute video portrait on the Angh, a Konyak Naga Chief whose house in Longwa is divided between India and Burma. The film which aims to put across the Naga identity despite the geographical divisions won the Best Director award during the ‘Film, Northeast 2016’ Festival in February in Itanagar, and further screened in several countries. “This story is unique because of the fact that the international boundary runs through a house. It reflects the way we Nagas were divided against our will. Even though it is an international boundary, it doesn’t matter to us because we are still Nagas,” asserted Sesino while discussing on the making of ‘The Story of a House’. On a question raised on what inspired her to be a filmmaker, Sesino narrated her childhood growing up in Kohima in the 1980s when Doordarshan

was introduced and the only access to the world was through this medium of television for people in Kohima. “Television industry is almost non-existent in Nagaland,” said Sesino, who, however encouraged the students to pursue the many career options in television. During the conversation with writers, Dr. Avinuo Kire, Vishü Rita Krocha and Chenonlo Woch interacted with the students and shared their early experiences on writing, the very limited scope of a writing career in Nagaland in the earlier years and how the concept of writing is changing from pleasure to career. At the Spoken Word competition, students presented poems on their original composition, poems by Naga writers as well as classics. In the closing act of the fest, special music was presented by Sanen Kichu, Junior String Ensemble and a narrative on storytelling was delivered by Nini Lungalang.

One of the resolutions under ‘Shopilak Declaration’ was a ban on establishing Sovereign Republic of Freeland offices in Eastern Nagaland. “The so called Sovereign Republic of Freeland (SRF) is an unrecognised organisation which is trying to grab the attention of the people with false promises which can't fulfill even one,” stated a press statement issued by ENCSU Chairman, Longre Chang and Joint Secretary, Nokchem AnKonyak Union on July 5. Manipur govt to bring out Internal disturbance in Manipur, not war-like situation: SC another anti-migrant bill

Imphal July 9 (IaNS): An allparty meeting held on Saturday in the office of Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh resolved to pass another antimigrant bill in the forthcoming session of the Manipur Assembly. On May 11, President Pranab Mukherjee had withheld the Protection of Manipur People Bill, 2015 and sent the two other bills -- The Manipur Land Revenue and Land Reforms (7th amendment) Bill, 2015 and The Manipur Shops and Establishment (2nd amendment) Bill, 2015 -- back for consideration. Though the President's decision was conveyed to the Manipur government, Ibobi did not divulge it till June 7 when the delegates of all political parties had rushed to Delhi for a meeting with Home Minister Rajnath

Singh. It was decided in the meeting that legal and constitutional experts shall re-examine the two bills which were sent back for consideration. It was proposed that the third bill should be renamed as the Manipur Local People's Protection Bill, 2016. In the withheld Bill the base year was 1951. However in the new bill it will be 1972. M. Nara, the state Communist Party of India (CPI) Secretary said, "Tribals had objected to the three bills. The central government would never give assent to the bills since there will be a divide among the people. The new bill should be acceptable to all sections of the people." N. Sovakiran, President of the Manipur People's Party said, "It has

NE require over eight lakh additional hospital beds GuwahatI, July 9 (aNI): "To achieve inclusive development, major public and private sector investments are required in health care in the north-east," - this was the key message that emerged from the two-day North East Health Care Summit organized by FICCI and PHFI in Guwahati. The summit was inaugurated by Lal Thanzara, Minister, Health and FW, Mizoram along with Ranjit Barthakur, Chairman, FICCI NE Advisory Council, Dr. K Srinath Reddy, President Public Health Foundation of India (through VC), and Jayanto Narayan Choudhury, vice president PHFI, along with state health ministers from Mizoram, Meghalaya, Sikkim and Members of Parliaments from north eastern states. In his address the Thanzara, congratulated the organisers-- FICCI and PHFI for organising this important summit that highlights key issues in today's evolving healthcare scenario pertinent to northeastern parts of the country. However, he lamented that due to lack of financial resources, skilled manpower in health, tough terrains and quality medical colleges, healthcare has taken a back seat in this region. "Poor healthcare services in the northeast and the need to enhance manpower, including setting up of more medical colleges in the region the requirement of the day. There is an urgent need to review the progress of schemes sanctioned by centre or the NEC towards the improvement of healthcare services in the region, especially infrastructure, in addition to finding out better ways and means to remove health problems and inaccessibility to quality healthcare especially in rural areas of the region. At present, only Assam, Tripura and Manipur have been able to set up their own medical colleges, while states like Mizoram, which grapple with Cancer, are yet to get any college," he said. Thanzara also appealed to the attending delegates and organisations to put

aside monetary benefits and work towards the improvement of healthcare services in this region. Ranjit Barthakur, chairman, FICCI NE Advisory Council said, "The northeastern region has the potential to become the new growth driver for the Indian economy but this can happen only if the population can function to its full potential, unbridled by the burden of diseases." "Globally, an average of 2.9 beds are available per 1000 population, therefore to even reach anywhere close to the global average, with a population of 45.45 million people, the north east would need over eight lakh additional hospital beds" he added. Dr. K Srinath Reddy, President, Public Health Foundation of India, in his video address said, "Northeast is one of the most vibrant regions in India, but its health indicators have unfortunately lagged behind rest of India on many counts. With so much technological and infrastructure advancements, it is time to bring about a rapid improvement in the public health indicators, especially in light of the renewed commitment by the central government towards speedy achievement of universal health coverage in the entire north-east region." "Already active in the region through its various capacity building and training programmes, Public Health Foundation of India, and its affiliate Indian Institute of Public Health in Shillong, aims to improve health outcomes i n the entire Northeast region through educational, research, training, policy and advocacy activities. With a view to complement various state and national level health initiatives, in this two day summit, all stakeholders be it policymakers, industry and health practitioners, will come up with a forward looking plan to improve the health scenario in the entire region, and become a major healthcare hub for entire Southeast Asia," he added.

come rather late in the day. Manipur goes to polls in February and official indications are that it may be advanced to December. It means that by the time the bill is referred to the Centre what we will have in Manipur is merely a lame duck government." Tombi, the state President of the Janata Dal (United) said, "We will urge the national leaders of our party to take up the issue of the Inner Line Permit system in Manipur." The Manipur Assembly had passed the three bills on August 31, 2015. One student supporting the bills was killed in Imphal and nine tribals were killed in Churachandpur district while protesting against the bills. Till date the bodies have not been claimed and are kept in a morgue.

has been and is prevailing in Manipur. "The submission of the Attorney General is nothing but a play on words and we reject it and hold that an internal disturbance is not equivalent to or akin to a war-like situation and proceed on the basis that there is no war or war-like situation in Manipur but only an internal disturbance, within the meaning of that expression in the Constitution - nothing more and nothing less," the bench said. It also said there was no doubt from the case records that Manipur has been facing a "public order situation equivalent to an internal disturbance" and "the tragedy is that this situation has continued since 1958 for almost 60 years".

Floods affect over 1 lakh in Assam GuwahatI, July 9 (IaNS): Over one lakh people have been affected by to floods in seven districts of Assam for the last few days, an official said on Saturday. A total of 112,307 people in 213 villages of Lakhimpur, Nagaon, Golaghat, Morigaon, Biswanath, Barpeta and Jorhat districts were marooned by floods till late Friday, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority official said. The situation may get worse in the coming days as the state meteorological department has predicted more rains for Assam and other northeastern states. "The situation is worse in Jorhat, Golaghat and Lakhimpur district where the district administration have opened six relief camps, housing over a thousand affected people," the official said. District administrations have been asked despatch relief material to the affected areas, the official said. There were reports of flash floods inundating vil-

The court said when it had asked the counsel for Manipur to place before it the declarations under the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) and the prohibitory orders issued under Section 144 of the CrPC, only recent declarations and prohibitory orders were produced and the rest have been lost in antiquity. "A generation or two has gone by and issues have festered for decades. It is high time that concerted and sincere efforts are continuously made by the four stakeholders civil society in Manipur, insurgents, the State of Manipur and the Government of India to find a lasting

and peaceful solution to the festering problem, with a little consideration from all quarters. It is never too late to bring peace and harmony in society," it observed. Making it clear that the situation in Manipur has "never been one of a war or an external aggression or an armed rebellion that threatens the security of the country or a part thereof", the bench said no such declaration has been made by the Centre, "explicitly or even implicitly". "Nothing has been shown to us that would warrant a conclusion that there is a war or an external aggression or an armed rebellion in Manipur," it said.

Ministers should accept bribes if offered, BPF chief

GuwahatI, July 9 (ht): The chief of a regional party has dealt a blow to ally BJP’s battle against corruption in Assam by saying ministers should accept bribe if offered. “We have two ministers in the Sarbananda Sonowal government. They should accept ‘maal’ (bribe) if offered,” Hagrama Mohilary, the president of Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), said. Mohilary, a rebel-turned-politician, is the chief executive member of Bodoland Territorial Council that BPF has been ruling since 2003. BPF is one of two regional allies of the ruling BJP. “The government has taken steps to check corruption but ministers have not been asked to not accept bribes if offered.

There is no harm in accepting anything but the ministers should not demand,” he said. The BPF has two ministers in the Sonowal government – environment and forest minister Pramila Rani Brahma and public health engineering minister Rihon Daimari. Mohilary’s twist to Assam’s crusade against corruption has drawn criticism. “His party, BPF, is a part of the government. Such remark, amounting to justification of what is happening around us, is not expected of him,” Pramod Bodo, president of All Bodo Students’ Union, said on Saturday. A few days ago, chief minister Sonowal had appealed to the people to not bribe officials or government employees to get their job done.

ABSU warns of indefinite hunger strike KoKraJhar, July 9 (at NewS): The All Bodo Students Union(ABSU) has warned of an indefinite hunger strike if the demand for a separate Bodoland state was not met by August 15. A statement said that the ABSU and allied organisations have been demanding for early solution and settlement of the NDFB (P) issue through political dialogue. According to the statement, the government has been delaying the Bodoland and NDFB (P) issue and asserted it will organise the proposed indefinite hunger strike from the first week of September in Kokrajhar.

New DelhI, July 9 (ptI): The Supreme Court today termed it a tragedy that Manipur is facing internal disturbance from past six decades but made it clear that it was "not akin to a war-like situation" in this north eastern state. The Centre's view in opposing any investigation into the alleged extra-judicial killings that a war-like situation was prevailing in Manipur did not go well with a bench of Justices Madan B Lokur and Uday Umesh Lalit which rejected it saying Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi's submission was nothing but a "play on words". The AG had opposed any investigation or inquiry into the alleged extrajudicial killings contending that a war-like situation

introduces Bill to bar Centre begins stake sale in 51 firms US Indian companies from

NEW DELHI, JuLy 9 (PTI): The government has invited merchant bankers to help it sell minority stakes in 51 companies, including RIL, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank and L&T, and is looking at exiting them within three years. The Specified Undertaking of UTI (SUUTI) has investments in these 51 listed as well as unlisted companies, like Hindustan Unilever, ITC Ltd, Jaiprakash Associates and a host of Tata Group firms. Government holds minority stake in these companies through SUUTI, which was formed in 2003

as an offshoot of erstwhile UTI, and is looking at selling them either through an OFS, block deal, bulk deal or regular sale through stock exchanges. As per the Request for Proposal, SUUTI plans to appoint up to three merchant bankers/advisers and selling brokers for assisting and advising on the SUUTI Holdings for a period of three years. “The advice shall be regarding sale of the shares held by SUUTI in various companies either through the Offer For Sale (OFS), Block Deal, Bulk Deal, Regular sale through Stock Ex-

change or any such other mechanism subject,” the RFP said, while inviting bids from merchant bankers by August 1.

Consolidated bids The bankers would have to put in a single consolidated bid for the entire SUUTI Holdings. However, the sale process of each of the 51 companies would be carried out individually. Of the 51 companies in which SUUTI holds stake, eight are unlisted entities — NSDL, STCI Finance, Over The Counter Exchange, Stock Holding Corporation of India, UTI-

IAS Ltd and UTI Infrastructure Technology Services, North Eastern Development Finance Corporation and NSDL e-Governance Infrastructure. Sale of SUUTI holdings would help swell government’s disinvestment kitty. It has also kept the option open for including those companies in which SUUTI holds stake in the second CPSE Exchange Traded Fund, which the government plans in the current fiscal. The government has set up an ambitious disinvestment target of Rs.56,500 crore for 2016-17.

Of the budgeted target, Rs.36,000 crore is to come from minority stake sale in PSUs and the remaining Rs 20.500 crore is estimated to come from strategic sale in both profit and loss-making companies. In March 2014, the government had sold nine per cent of its stake in Axis Bank held through SUUTI for over Rs.5,500 crore. Roadshows As per the RFP, merchant bankers would be required to advise on all statutory or regulatory norms and assist in securing all approvals and exemptions

from regulatory agencies such as Sebi, stock exchanges, FIPB, DIPP, RBI, MCA in respect of the companies constituting the SUUTI Holdings. They will also be required to hold domestic and international roadshows to generate interest amongst prospective investors and arrange meetings with the key investors and facilitate communication. “All expenses in this regard will be borne by the Merchant Bankers except the tour expenses of SUUTI and company officials,” the RFP said.

Centre may invest more India, UK evaluating possibility of a trade pact post Brexit PF money in equities NEW DELHI, JuLy 9 (THE HINDu): The Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has earned 7.45 per cent returns from its equity investments since August last year due to an uptick in the capital market, Union Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya said. A status report on equity investments has been sent to financial, investment and audit committee of EPFO and a final call on increasing equity investments will be taken in the next central board of trustees meeting to be held later this month. “World over, the investments in exchange traded funds are going up. The investment in exchange traded funds will benefit in the longer run and lead to an increase in the rate of return we offer to our subscribers,” Mr. Dattatreya said at a press conference after the 213th Central Board of Trustees (CBT) meeting of the EPFO. He said the EPFO has invested around Rs.7,000 crore in exchange traded funds

since August 2015. Labour Secretary Shankar Aggarwal said the yield on investment in equity till date is “almost equal” to return on government securities investment. “Soon, we will take a decision on how much the equity investments should be increased,” the labour minister, who is also the Chairman of the CBT, said. He said a special CBT meeting may be held between 18 and 22 July to discuss the various proposals including increasing equity investments. The EPFO started investing five per cent of its corpus in equities beginning August last year. It can invest up to 15 per cent in equity and its related instruments such as exchange traded funds. Trade unions were not in favour of equity investment as they feared higher risk being involved due to market fluctuations. “We should not look at fluctuations. Ultimately, the interest rate in the long-term will be gainful. We are keeping the work-

Jaitley questions high interest rates on savings NEW DELHI, JuLy 9 (PTI): With private investment yet to pick up, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today wondered whether it is desirable to continue offering high interest rates on savings that translate into higher cost of lending and sluggishness in the economy. India, he said, has "peculiar" characteristics of having "quite high" percentage of domestic savings. "Now, whether domestic savings are only to be used by such instruments which give you a higher return and create an interest regime which is extremely costly and makes the economy sluggish, or higher returns are to be got from such instruments as funds, bonds, shares (that finance projects and economic activity)," he asked. Speaking at a function here to unveil a commemorative postage stamp to mark 140 years of BSE, he said the essence of all economic activity is investment which is going to come from where resources are available. "A lot of them have also an element of secured investment in them which can give people a very respectable return itself. That's the basis on which pension funds the world over have been functioning and I think these are areas of advances as we grow over the next several years and decades. More and more opportunities are going to come to us," he said. According to Jaitley, Indian economy will need

a lot of investment for a reasonably long period to bridge the infrastructure and industrialisation deficit that has existed for decades. "And the starting point of all activity has to be investment, it has to be resource-raising, it has to be important companies in the private sector and sometimes PPP, which will ensure this deficit is met," he said. The finance minister felt that in this context, BSE is an important institution. "Last few years have seen India grow well, essentially grow well on the strength of enhanced public investment (and) FDI. The best of private sector in that development process is yet to be seen," he said. Stating that absence of demand has been cited for lack of private investment, he hoped urban demand will improve. "And since rain gods appear kinder this year, there would be signs of increased rural demand itself and all these in turn would lead to opportunity for the private sector itself," he said. This will lead to a lot more activity at institutions like BSE, he said, adding that the best of the two stock exchanges -- BSE and NSE -- is yet to come by. "It is not to undermine what they have already done in the past, it's to prepare them for greater challenges in future. I'm sure BSE would get itself ready for their act," Jaitley added.

ers’ interest in mind but we are not going ahead in a hurry. We are moving forward cautiously,” Mr. Dattatreya said. UTI to manage equity U TI will manage the equity investments of Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) along with State Bank of India (SBI), Central Provident Fund Commissioner VP Joy said. “We have decided to rope in UTI to manage our exchange traded fund investments along with SBI. We have not yet taken a final call on the proportion of funds that each of them will handle,” Mr. Joy said. The finance investment and audit committee of EPFO had proposed that UTI Mutual Fund be allocated 10 per cent of total ETF investments of EPFO and the rest 90 per cent be handled by SBI Mutual Fund. A status report on investments has been sent to financial, investment and audit committee of EPFO.

NEW DELHI, JuLy 9 (PTI): India and the UK are exploring the possibility of a free trade agreement following the Britain's decision to exit from the European Union, Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Friday. "Naturally," she said when asked whether India and the UK are evaluating possibility of a preferential or a free trade agreement with the UK. She was speaking to reporters after her meeting with UK Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skill Sajid Javid here. "Once the process of informal discussions starts then we get into discussions in detail. They will all fall into a formal framework...whether it is a preferential or a free trade agreement that will be a mutually discussed matter," Sitharaman said. India is already negotiating a comprehensive free trade agreement with the EU, and after the Brexit, it will have to rework its strategy of negotiations. Sitharaman said that with the UK moving out of the EU, the FTA talks with the European Union are going to be a fresh exercise.

"With the EU offocurse, it shall continue but with recalibrated now that UK is out of EU, so we shall be doing both," she said. After the meeting, visiting minister Javid said his discussion with Sitharaman "was very positive and constructive". "India and UK already have a very strong trade and investment relations and we are looking at how we can go further and look forward to working with her," he told reporters. When asked whether any discussions happened about Tata Steel, Sitharaman said, "No. I have not discussed about Tata Steel at all with the UK minister". She said they discussed about trade and investment related issues. "My talks with him and his visit have been on informally but pro-actively engaging on trade related matters post Brexit and on that, I got the impression that the UK minister is very keen that we start the informal process and we are quite happy to engage with the UK post Brexit," she said. She said the UK is one of the big components in the EU and through this,

India has trade relations with the EU. "Trade with UK is substantial. Indian investments in UK are one of the biggest. A lot of jobs created in the UK are by Indian investors," the Indian minister said. "Similarly on services, we have great potential... We see immense potential in talking about goods and services trade. I have agreed to have our chief negotiator and invited his chief negotiator to speak to each other, so that we informally know from where we are going to start," she added. Besides this, both the countries are also encouraging business to business contacts. hiring on H-1B visas

WasHINgToN, JuLy 9 (PTI): A bipartisan group of two US lawmakers has introduced in the House of Representatives a legislation, which if passed by the Congress would prevent Indian companies from hiring IT professionals on H-1B and L1 work visas. Since the revenue model of majority of big Indian IT companies is heavily dependent on H-1B and L1 visas in the US, such a bill is likely to have a major impact, if not sound a death knell, on their businesses. The H-1B and L-1 Visa Reform Act of 2016 introduced by Democratic Congressman Bill Pascrell from New Jersey and Republican Dana Rohrabacher from California would prohibit companies from hiring H-1B employees if they employ more than 50 people and more than 50 per cent of their employees are H-1B and L-1 visa holders. Before the bill is signed into a law by US President Barack Obama, it needs to be passed by the Senate, wherein it has not been tabled so far. Notably, the two sponsors of the bill come from the two American states which have the maximum concentration of Indian Americans. "America is producing many skilled, high-tech professionals with advanced degrees and no jobs. By in-sourcing and exploit-

ing foreign workers, some businesses are abusing the visa programs and undercutting our workforce to reap the rewards," Congressman Pascrell said. "Without the critical reforms our bill proposes, American workers will continue to be unfairly displaced and visa workers will continue to be mistreated -both of which are unacceptable," he said in a statement. Noting the foreign outsourcing companies are the top users of the H-1B and L-1 visa programs, a media statement issued by the Congressmans office said over the years a number of concerns have been raised about how certain companies have been using these visa programs, including a 2011 report from the Government Accountability Office calling for reform. Pascrell and Rohrabacher had introduced a similar version of this bill in 2010, which could not gain enough support in the Congress. The lawmakers said the H-1B and L-1 Visa Reform Act of 2016 would close loopholes in the H-1B and L-1 visa programs, reduce fraud and abuse, provide protections for American workers and visa holders, require more transparency in the recruitment of foreign workers, and increase penalties on those who violate the law.

NAGALAND

legislators urge Zeliang youth for cooperation Morung Express News Jalukie | July 9

The Jalukie Valley Youth Organization (JVYO) organized its get-together-cumpicnic here at Jalukie Students’ Union Central Park, some five kilometers from Jalukie town, on Saturday. The occasion was graced by eight parliamentary secretaries, chairman and advisor including S Chuba Longkumer (Veterinary & Animal Husbandry), Kejong Chang (Horticulture and DB & GB), YM Yollow (CAWD), L Khumo (Land Resources, VG and Women Resources Development), Er. Levi Rengma (Housing), Amenba Yaden (Industry & Commerce), Naiba Konyak (advisor NBDA) and Dr. Longriniken (chairman DAN and NRBM). More than 1,200 people from Jalukie valley comprising of 18 villages and Jalukie town attended the get-together programme, which was sponsored by Masangum, PS to Nagaland Chief Minister. Parliamentary Secretary, Chuba, who had served as BDO in Jalukie for several years, recalled his fond relationship with the JVYO as Advisor. In his ad-

dress, he said that the youth organizations can initiate a lot of developmental activities be it in the human, social or economic fronts. He also said whatever critics may say, one has to accept that the NPF-led DAN government under chief minister, TR Zeliang, has created a record in the country and perhaps in the whole world, by running a democratic government where there is not a single opposition. Chuba also reminded that the historic “Framework Agreement” between the Government of In-

dia and NSCN (I-M) was signed during the tenure of TR Zeliang as chief minister, thereby vindicating DAN government’s commitment to act as “facilitator” to the peace process. Referring to the past crisis within the NPF party over the issue of chief ministership, Kejong Chang said the majority of NPF MLAs chose TR Zeliang to lead them not because of any other considerations but because he had “brains” to lead the Nagas as a whole. He also said Zeliang was a unifying factor among the NPF MLAs.

The oldest member in the present Assembly, Chang, 93, promised to return in the next House saying that though old, he is determined to continue to serve the people of the State. “I may be old, but I am not going to Heaven any time soon,” he quipped. Yollow Konyak said the youths should not shy away from works but remember the dignity of labour. He also urged JVYO to extend support and cooperation to the state government to ensure development on all fronts. L Khumo said instead of

appreciating and encouraging leaders, Naga people have the tendency to criticize their own leaders, especially from their own tribes. He urged the youth to give up this negative aspect and instead invest their energy in fostering unity among themselves and Naga society. Er. Levi Rengma said majority of the NPF MLAs representing various Naga tribes had chosen TR Zeliang to be their leader and so TR Zeliang is not the sole “property” of a particular tribe but Naga people as a whole.

“By criticizing our chief minister, you are also criticizing other Naga tribes who have reposed their confidence in TR Zeliang to be their chief minister”, he said. “We (other Naga tribes) are fed up of hearing and reading the criticisms to the chief minister from his own tribe. When the rest of Nagas and all ENPO MLAs are behind TR Zeliang, why should there be opposition from your side?” Naiba questioned. Longriniken said Naga have together raised TR Zeliang to the highest pedestal and it would be great loss to Zeliang people in particular if they try to pull down their leader as the Zeliangs may never get another opportunity to lead the state. Amenba Yaden also exhorted the gathering to forego negative criticisms. The JVYO and Jalukie Students’ Union also submitted representations to Parliamentary Secretaries S Chuba Longkumer and Kejong Chang respectively. Earlier, JVYO president, Machigwang Mpom, delivered the welcome address and Masangum introduced the 8 legislators to the gathering.

Stating that they were “constrained to write” on the issue, the two bodies maintained that the said laid down rules “are not being implemented on ground to our satisfaction”. Further, informing that 11 traders without valid ILP were arrested by police on Saturday morning at New Reserve Area (DEF), Mokokchung, the AKM and MCCI posed a series of questions to the DC asking how it was possible for the 11 to pass through the inter-state Police check gate at Tuli area. While appreciating the Mokokchung Police personnel for their vigilance, the two bodies also questioned the DC why the pick-up vehicles the 11 traders were travelling in, along with their consignment, were not seized by the authorities. The AKM and MCCI demanded that the provisions laid down for the Weekly Bazaar in Mokokchung district as formulated during the meeting held on April 20, 2015 be implemented in toto. “Or ban the so-called Weekly Bazaar immediately,” the AKM and MCCI demanded.

Public SPace Honourable Settlement of the Naga Peace Talk

he ongoing Peace Accord speaks of an honourable settlement of the Naga issue to which the present Government of India is a party. The pertinent question therefore arises what constitutes the basis for such an honourable settlement. Here one has to recollect the fact that the past Government of India had already offered such honourable settlement to the Naga National Council by promising to return all the Naga traditional and historical territories that belong to the Nagas and to amalgamate all the Naga inhabited areas under one administrative unit as per Point No. 6 of 9 Points Agreement of 1947. It is well known fact that due to the

failure of the past Government of India of not fulfilling its written commitment resulted in the ongoing Naga-India conflict today. The past Government of India instead of acknowledging its own failure inducted Armed Forces into the peaceful Naga Hills with a view to subjugate the Nagas by force on the mere excuse of maintaining Law and order As a result of which hundreds of Naga villages were burnt down to ashes, thousands of Nagas were killed, women raped and many died due to starvation and diseases from wilderness. Even the present Government of India is completely silent on the atrocities committed by its Armed Forces and have failed to compensate the loss suffered by the

ordinary innocent Naga villagers. The untrustworthiness of the Government of India is clearly seen even today in the opposition to the extension of the Disturbed Area Act and the continuation of the Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA) of 1958 within Nagaland. In view of the above, it is our request to the Honourable Prime Minister is to initiate the return of all the Naga territories and amalgamation of all the Naga inhabited areas under one administrative unit as promised by the Government of India in 1947. Short of such an honourable settlement, the Nagas will be compelled to demand justice in the highest court of the country and the world as well. TL Angami, Dimapur

Make Your Own Rainbow

earn how to make a rainbow with this fun science experiment for kids. Using just a few simple everyday items you can find out how rainbows work while enjoying an interactive, hands on activity that’s perfect for kids.

What you'll need:

• A glass of water (about three quarters full) • White paper • A sunny day

Instructions:

• Take the glass of water and paper to a part of the room with sunlight (near a window is good). • Hold the glass of water (being careful not to spill it) above the paper and watch as sunlight passes through the glass of water, refracts (bends) and forms a rainbow of colors on your sheet of paper. • Try holding the glass of water at different heights and angles to see if it has a different effect.

What's happening?

While you normally see a rainbow as an arc of color in the sky, they can also form in other situations. You may have seen a rainbow in a water fountain or in the mist of a waterfall and you can even make your own such as you did in this experiment. Rainbows form in the sky when sunlight refracts (bends) as it passes through raindrops, it acts in the same way when it passes through your glass of water. The sunlight refracts, separating it into the colors red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet.

Car Facts for Kids • The car, automobile, motor car or autocar usually has four-wheels and is a vehicle that uses its own motor engine system to transport passengers over purposely built roads. • In 1769 Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot of France arguably invented the first full-scale, self propelled mechanical vehicle or automobile. It was a steam-powered tricycle. • In 1807 Nicéphore Niépce and his brother Claude are believed to have built the world's first internal combustion engine. They called it a Pyréolophore. However, they chose to install it in a boat not a car. That same year a Swiss inventor François Isaac de Rivaz finished his own internal combustion engine and used it to create the world's first internal combustion engine vehicle. • The Benz Patent-Motorwagen is believed to be the first modern automobile. It was built in 1886 by German inventor Carl Benz. • In August 1888, Carl Benz's wife, Bertha Benz, became the first person to drive a car over a long distance. Without telling her husband she drove one of their Benz Patent-Motorwagens along with her two eldest

sons from a town called Mannheim in southern Germany to Pforzheim. Automobile trips before this were usually short drives, she wanted to prove the automobile they had invented was a useful contraption, that the general public could use. • Bertha Benz's road trip was a pioneering drive and a key event in the technical development of the car. Covering 106 km (66 miles) each way she did the round trip in two days, solving numerous problems on the way. When the brakes needed repairing she invented brake lining. She used a hatpin to clean a blocked fuel pipe and insulated a wire with a garter. She located fuel at the city pharmacy in Wiesloch (hailed as the first fuel station in the world) and on her return home made other suggestions, such as the need of another gear for climbing hills. • In 1892, Rudolf Diesel a German engineer invented a "New Rational Combustion Engine" which lead him to building the first Diesel Engine in 1897. • As automobiles became more popular a need arose to manufacture affordable cars on a large-scale basis. Ransom Olds in 1902, debuted a production-line

manufacturing system at his Oldsmobile factory in Michigan, USA. • Henry Ford's Model T car, introduced in 1908, is often regarded as the most famous of all early automobiles. It was the first car to become publically affordable, especially after Ford massively improved the production-line manufacturing system. • In 1914, Ford created a production-line system that focused on synchronization, precision, and specialization. Ford's cars came off the line much faster than previous methods (from 12.5 man-hours down to just 1.5), which increased productivity yet used less manpower. By assigning each worker a specified area rather than allowing them to roam about, injuries were dramatically reduced. • Ford could afford to pay workers more as the number of workers needed decreased. Combined with the high efficiency output a term called "Fordism" was surmised. It lead to most major manufacturing industries adopting the method for various products which contributed to the economic rise of the United States. • Today, various body styles for the car exist such as the sedan/sa-

loon, hatchback, station wagon/estate and van. • In 2010 it was estimated that there were over 1 billion vehicles in the world, up from half a billion in 1986. The number of cars on the road continues to increase rapidly year on year especially in developing countries such as India and China. • Petrol (gasoline) and diesel are still used to fuel the internal combustion engine today. However, both of these fuels cause air pollution and contribute to climate change. With rapidly increasing oil prices and concerns about the environmental impacts there is a lot of work underway to produce viable future alternative power systems for cars. Hybrid vehicles, plug-in electric vehicles, hydrogen vehicles and vehicles using alternative fuels such as natural gas are gaining popularity. • Fully autonomous vehicles (driverless cars) currently exist in prototype (Google has developed a driverless car). These cars are expected to be available commercially around the year 2020. Autonomous cars could help to reduce the amount of vehicles needed on the road and dramatically increase safety.

God’s Strategy to Help You Overcome Your Anger

A

Joyce Meyer

nger is a common problem and we all have opportunities to get angry. Sometimes people get hurt and instead of dealing with their anger, they hang on to it and become bitter, hardhearted and miserable. Living in anger is like banging your head against the wall, so to speak, because it keeps you stuck, doing something that is never going to work because it isn't God's plan or the way He does things. But the truth is, giving it to God and trusting Him to be your vindicator so you can be free of anger is actually easier than continuing to live with it. Uncontrolled anger hinders our prayers, makes us miserable, causes mental illness and can even make us physically sick. These are just a few problems anger causes. The good news is God wants to be our vindicator (Job 19:25) and we can make the choice to release the offense to Him and trust Him to make wrong things right. I know it's not easy, and God may not move as quickly as you'd like Him to or do things the way you'd like Him to do them. But He will vindicate you if you will trust Him and do things His way because He doesn't like it when people mistreat His children! Facing My Anger Problem I know what it's like to live angry. My dad was an angry person and he was very abusive. When I left home at the age of 18, I thought I would be free of the pain and anger I had experienced most of my life because I was leaving it behind me. It took a long time for me to realize that although I left that situation, I actually took the problem with me. It was etched in my soul—in my thinking, my emotions, the way I talked and how I dealt with relationships. So I spent years after that experiencing all kinds of problems, manifesting destructive, dysfunctional behaviors that I blamed on everything and everybody else. Instead of taking responsibility for my anger and the hurt in my soul, I would say things like, "I wouldn't be angry if Dave would pay more attention to me," or "I wouldn't be angry if my boss paid me more to do this job." Whatever my problem was, it was somebody else's fault. Thank God, I eventually learned that I needed to let Jesus deal with what was going on inside of me so I could experience the freedom He wanted me to have (John 10:10).

His help right away. Ephesians 4:26-27 (AMPC) says, "When angry, do not sin; do not ever let your wrath (your exasperation, your fury or indignation) last until the sun goes down. Leave no [such] room or foothold for the devil [give no opportunity to him]." I used to think that just having the feeling of anger was wrong, but these verses show us that it's not the emotion itself that is sinful but what we choose to do with it. The temptation to act in anger is not sin, and there is great victory when we face it and exercise selfcontrol with the help of the Holy Spirit. Turn it over to Him instead of trying to defend yourself, get revenge, hate people or hold on to your anger. You may be thinking, "But Joyce, you don't understand what they did to me. It's so hard to forgive—I just can't do it!" Believe me, I do understand how hard it can be. But God never tells us to do something without giving us the ability to do it, and you can release your anger to Him and forgive if you will trust Him to help you. God's Word has the answers we need to successfully defeat anger; it's full of power and it has the ability to change our life! So I want to share several Scriptures you can study to help you manage anger God's way: Romans 12:21 says, "Do not let yourself be overcome by evil, but overcome (master) evil with good." When you fight evil with evil, you'll never win, but if you fight evil with good, you will win every time! Ecclesiastes 7:9 gives this instruction: "Do not be quick in spirit to be angry or vexed, for anger and vexation lodge in the bosom of fools." People who are offended and stay angry become filled with bitterness and resentment, letting the enemy steal the best God has for them. James 1:19-20 says, "Let every man be quick to hear [a ready listener], slow to speak, slow to take offense and to get angry. For man's anger does not promote the righteousness God [wishes and requires]." Make a determined decision to do what the Word says, but don't strive to do it in your own strength. Spend time with God, telling Him what you need and studying Scriptures about anger, forgiveness and love. Write down verses that remind you to be slow to get angry and to overcome evil with good. Speak them out loud as declarations of your faith in God to help you. God's Anger Management Strategy to the temptation to think about what someone did He loves you and has a good plan for you. All things are The best thing we can do when we're struggling to you over and over or talk about it repeatedly. In- possible with God (Matt. 19:26) and in Christ, you don't with anger is go to God immediately. Don't give in stead, make the choice to give it to God by asking for have to live an angry life!

Hillsong Debuts New Trailer for Upcoming Film ‘Let Hope Rise’ Jeannie Law , Christian Post

orld-renowned ministry Hillsong released the trailer for their highly anticipated feature film "Let Hope Rise." The Pure Flix film will chronicle the spectacular rise of the prominent Australiabased band, Hillsong UNITED. In the new trailer, senior pastor Brian Houston explains the start of Hillsong and his heart for their music. Various clips of the band praying, touring, writing songs and more are highlighted. "In the end our success is not about us, it's all about God. You take Him out of the equation, you got nothing," Houston says as UNITED's hit song "Oceans" plays in the background. "Hillsong-Let Hope Rise" was directed by Michael John Warren, who is also behind the popular Jay Z film "Fade to Black." The cinematic release will take viewers on Hillsong's journey, which started in a tiny church in the Sydney suburbs to an influential international ministry whose songs are sung every Sunday by more than 50 million people across the globe. Their

songs are recognized all over the world and have been translated into 60 languages. They sold more than 17 million albums. In a statement shared with The Christian Post, chief production officer and a founding partner of Pure Flix, Michael Scott, said "Hillsong-Let Hope Rise is so much more than a film about a Christian band or even a church. It is truly a theatrical worship experience. It is a dream come true for us, as a studio committed to influencing the global culture, to partner with a church like Hillsong." Producer Jonathan Bock added, "Anyone who regularly attends a church knows Hillsong's music by heart. That's how influential they've become. And yet despite the fame and adulation, they're still just a humble worship band trying to do what tens of thousands of other worship bands try to do every week – glorify God through their music. How they balance that is a fascinating and surprising story." Hillsong has grown from a single church in suburban Sydney to an international ministry

Strength in weakness and joy in suffering 1. Hope does not disappoint: Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character ; a n d c ha racter, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. (Romans 5:3-5) To rejoice in suffering is a paradox. But for Christians suffering can be the reason for genuine joy because of what it can produce in us. Trials of life produce perseverance-- determination and spiritual stamina to carry on in spite of all the odds against us, humility, good Christian personality and reliable hope. Believers must rejoice and maintain a spirit of joy in the Lord. They are not immune to sorrow, nor should they be insensitive to the troubles of others; yet they should count God's will as their highest joy. His loving grace is all-sufficient for every circumstances of our lives.

that now extends to cities on five continents, including London, Paris, Sao Paulo, Capetown, Rio de Janeiro, and Phoenix. In America, Hillsong is recognized for their thriving congregations in New York and Los Angeles. Combined, the ministry reaches over 100,000 people weekly. In addition to its local church initiatives, Hillsong just recently launched their own channel on TBN and frequently partners with international organizations to help provide food and education for children in the slums of India, building housing for those living with AIDS in Africa, and rescuing victims of human trafficking around the globe. "We're thrilled that Pure Flix, the No. 1 producer of faith films in the U.S., is our partner on this project," Brian Houston, founding pastor of Hillsong Church said in a statement. "It's our hope that by sharing an up-close and unvarnished look inside our music and lives, we can shatter preconceived notions of what it means to follow Jesus in today's modern world." "Hillsong-Let Hope Rise" hits theaters nationwide Sept. 16, 2016.

Man who memorized 20 books of Bible reveals tips in new book

A

Tom Meyer

Michael Gryboski

man known for his ability to recite 20 books of the Bible from memory has released a study Bible that reveals his techniques. Tom Meyer, member of Wordsower International Ministries and a professor at Shasta Bible College in California, released last week. The book is written in a format that Meyer says will help people memorize verses and even entire chapters of the Bible. In an interview with The Christian Post, Meyer explained that the study Bible came from what he believed was a vacancy among study books. "This Study Bible had its origin in my increasing conviction from many years of memorizing the scriptures as a student, lecturer, and now professor that all of the many excellent and useful editions of the scriptures left much to be desired in regards to fostering memorization," said Meyer. "I have endeavored to embody my technique of memorization on the pages of this New Testament Study Bible with the purpose of facilitating memorization through the power of format combined with my technique of using the number of words in each verse to aid in memorization as I write out each verse long hand." An expert in reciting memorized Bible books, Meyer has been known to show off his ability for various audiences across the country. In May 2015, Meyer and fellow Word-

sower member Jason Nightingale recited assorted Bible books from memory for 24 hours straight as part of an event to raise money to help earthquake victims in Nepal. The Memorization Study Bible is not the only means through which Meyer is attempting to spread the word on how to memorize books of the Bible. Last year, Meyer began teaching a Bible memorization course at Shasta Bible College and Graduate School, the final test being a recitation of an entire Bible book from memory. "I was able to learn some of the ancient mnemonic techniques from my relationships with Greek Orthodox Monks while I stayed with them in the Wilderness of Judah, as well as Rabbis, and Yeshiva students on Mt. Zion," Meyer told CP in an interview last August. "The essence of those techniques are essentially reading aloud the text continuously while using the format of the page to help photograph the page on your mind, to listen to the text being read aloud in a dramatic fashion, and writing out the verse numerous times while speaking the verse at the same time." When asked what he wants readers to take from his study book, Meyer said it's his hope that others will master Bible memorization just as he has. "This method has helped me accomplish memorizing to date some 20 complete books of the Bible and hopefully a testimony similar to mine can be yours with a lot of prayer, hard work," said Meyer.

2. The light that dispels the darkness: Adoniram Judson went as a missionary to Burma (Myanmar). But he had to learn the language first before he starts preaching. One day he saw a Burmese and out of his eagerness to preach the gospel he impulsively walked up to the man and embraced him. The man went home and reported that he had seen an angel. The living Christ was so radiant in Mr. Judson's countenance that men called him "Mr. Glory-Face." When Christians really come to know the love God has given them, the Christian gospel shines through them as trials and turmoil of life faded away into the background. When the spirit of gladness and thankfulness rules the heart, light springs up to dispel the darkness and gloom. 3. Strength in weakness: In 2 Corinthians 12:10 Paul said, "That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong." There are times in our lives when we are at our lowest, times when we feel doomed because the trials confronting us seem too formidable to overcome. However, even during those moments God has a purpose for us with his best of intention. Those are the times when God wants us to stop depending on our own strength or intelligence and rely fully on him. Our weakest moment becomes our strongest moment when God takes control of our lives and we rest upon the strength of God. 4. Let's sing in the rain: A saintly woman suffering for weary months in painful illness said to her pastor: "I have such a lovely robin that sings outside my window. In the early morning, as I lie here, he serenades me." Then, as a smile brightened her thin features, she added, "I love him, because he sings in the rain." That is the most beautiful thing about the robin. When the storm has silenced almost every other songbird, the robin sings on.. sings in the rain. That is the way the Christian who is with Christ must do. Anybody can sing in the sunshine; you and I should sing on when dark clouds pour out their rains, for Christ is with us. We will sing in the rain!

Eight killed in Kashmir protests over Wani's death Srinagar, July 9 (ianS): Eight people were killed and nearly 100 injured in violent clashes between mobs protesting the death of top Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Muzaffar Wani and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday. Defying prohibitory orders, a surging crowd of over 20,000 people on Saturday attended the burial of Wani in south Kashmir's Tral town. Mobile internet services were suspended throughout the Valley to prevent the spread of rumours. The Amarnath Yatra was also suspended on Saturday in view of the unrest and the pilgrims kept in transit camps and security forces camps. A decision on resuming the pilgrimage will be taken on Sunday, officials said. Shouting pro-Islam and pro-Azadi slogans, mourners at the burial appeared surcharged and youths raised slogans vowing to follow Wani's path at the burial at Shariefabad (Tral) in Pulwama district. Wani, 21, a poster boy of

militancy with thousands of followers on social media, was killed along with two of his associates in a gunfight with security forces in Bamdoora (Kokernag) village of Anantnag district on Friday. The authorities, allowing the burial procedure, withdrew all security forces deployed around the ground to prevent clashes with the agitated people. Train services from north Kashmir's Baramulla town to Banihal town in the Jammu region were also suspended. The eight protesters killed on Saturday were identified as Aijaz Ahmed Thokru, a resident of Siligam in Anantnag, Yawar Manzoor Kondru of Anantnag, Khursheed Ahmed of Kulgam and Zubair Ahmed also of Kulgam, who was injured on Friday but succumbed to his injuries on Saturday, Adil Bashir of Dooru, Anantnag, Abdul Hamid Mochi of Arwami village in Anantnag, Shaukat Ahmed of Bijbehara and Mohammad Asif of Kukurnag. NATION Briefs 5 Odisha villagers ‘mistakenly’ killed during anti-Maoist ops

bhubaneSwar, July 9 (DC): At least five villagers were killed on Friday night when security personnel deployed in anti-Maoist operations at Malapanga in Kandhamal district in Odisha ‘mistakenly’ opened fire on them. Preliminary reports said that the auto, carrying the villagers returning from local Baliguda market to their home, came under crossfire between the security personnel and Maoists in Gumurumaha forest under Tumudibandha police limits. “The local police had information that some Maoists will pass on the route late in the evening. Along with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), the security personnel had positioned themselves for an ambush on the rebels. During an exchange of fire between the security personnel, the auto-rickshaw came under the firing line,” Kandhamal superintendent of police (SP) Pinak Mishra said. The SP informed that detail information on the incident was awaited. “Since the spot where the exchange of fire took place happens to be an inaccessible pocket and there is no mobile network, we are still not clear about the detailed casualty. Our men are in touch with the local villagers. We will surely probe if the people were killed in the firing by security personnel or Maoists,” the SP said. Former Naib Sarpanch Kukal Digal and a five-month-old child of Malapanga village were among the deceased, reports said. “A search operation is in progress after the firing incident. We are yet to receive detailed information about the matter. CRPF jawans have been deployed at the spot,” said Kandhamal superintendent of police (SP) Pinak Mishra.

MeeruT, July 9 (PTi): Four persons were killed today after they were buried under the debris of an "illegal" multi-storey building in Meerut cantonment area as it was being demolished by civic authorities this morning, officials said. Bungalow No 210, was demolished by the Cantonment Board authorities during an anti-encroachment drive during which a few people, who apparently were still in the building, were buried under the rubble. Four of them died while three were injured. They have been admitted to a hospital, Meerut Division Commissioner, Alok Sinha said. Rescue operation is underway as at least six other persons are feared trapped under the debris. According to Meerut Cantonment Board's Assistant Engineer, Piyush Gautam, "a prior notice was sent to its occupants to vacate the building as it had been illegally built. The area was marked for demolition and the timing of 3 AM was decided." "We even gave three more hours to the occupants to take out their belonging and began the demolition at 6 AM only," he claimed. According to officials, the building was a disputed property and the High Court had ordered its demolition. Meanwhile, family members of the deceased have registered a police complaint against the officials of the Board. The bodies have been sent for postmortem.

Wani's killing. Later, they announced to continue their shutdown on Sunday and Monday too to protest the "killing spree by the Indian security forces". Lashkar-e Taiba militant outfit and Asiya Andrabi, the radical chief of women separatist outfit Dukhtaran-e-Milat, called for a three-day shutdown in the Kashmir valley. Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah voiced apprehension of a likely spurt in militancy in the Valley in the wake of the killing of Wani. "Mark my words Burhan's ability to recruit in to militancy from the grave will far outstrip anything he could have done on social media," the National Conference leader said in a series of tweets. He also asserted that Wani had become the new 'icon' for the disaffected community in the valley. "After many years I hear slogans for "Azadi" resonate from the mosque in my uptown Srinagar locality. Kashmir's disaffected got a new icon yesterday," he said in another tweet.

B'desh investigating Zakir Kidney rackets rampant across Naik's Islamist links: Minister India as crackdown proves difficult

Dhaka, July 9 (PTi): Bangladesh government today said it was investigating the Islamist links of India-based controversial preacher Zakir Naik and examining the possibilities of banning his "provocative" speeches in the wake of two brutal terrorist attacks in the country within a week in which 25 people died. Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said that Bangladesh's intelligence agencies were investigating the Islamic preacher. "He is on our security scanner... Our intelligence agencies are investigating his activities as his lectures appeared provocative," Khan said. Khan said the investigators were also probing Naik's financial transactions in Bangladesh. "In the past, I myself used to watch the channel but after the Gulshan incident, I realised that many people do not view the channel the way I do it," Cable TV Owners' Association President Mir Hossain Akhtar told a Bangladeshi news agency. He added: "We want to stop airing the channel across the country. But in the absence of any government notification in this regard, it is not possible at this moment." The channel also airs broadcast in Bangla targeting the Bangladeshi audience. Naik, whose speeches are aired on 'Peace TV' run by his Mumbai-based

Islamic Research Foundation, is a controversial Islamic preacher and his preachings were reported to have inspired some of the Dhaka attackers. Britain and Canada have banned Naik from visiting the two countries several years ago while Malaysia banned his lectures fearing that they could instigate inter-racial tensions. Experts said Naik could not be accused of openly inciting terror but his preaching were a heady mix of ingredients which could abet radicalisation of the extreme kinds. One of the slain attackers of the terrorist attack in Dhaka's high-security Gulshan area on July 1, the 22-year-old Rohan Imtiaz quoted Naik in a Facebook post in January this year where he urged "all Muslims to be terrorists."

new Delhi, July 9 (hinDuSTan TiMeS): With several layers of touts and doctors and margins of Rs 20 lakh per case, the illegal kidney transplant racket is rampant across the country and agencies are finding it difficult to crackdown on these. NGOs estimate that donors are paid as little as Rs 40,000 while the receiver pays over Rs 20 lakh for the same kidney, and that is why organ transplant trafficking is one of the fastest and least reported crimes in India. Last month, police busted a kidney racket which lured poor people from several states to sell their kidneys, and arrested several people, including the personal secretaries of a neurologist of Apollo Hospital, in this connection. NGOs working in the field claim many donors don’t even know they have undergone kidney transplants and that awareness at the village level could solve the problem. “Many donors don’t even know where to complain. In far flung villages in West Bengal and Bihar, most of the villagers live with one kidney and operations are performed locally.

It is a thriving market, with touts preying on poor,” said Rishi Kant of Shakti Vahini NGO that works in rural areas. Investigators claim donors are known as ‘Pappu’ among touts and the nexus is so strong that two people involved in the racket often don’t know each other. “We stumbled on the racket when we saw two people fighting. The touts call donors ‘Pappu’ and many a times it was difficult to reach the next level. They used to target the poor and pay them as less as Rs 25,000. It is difficult to bust the organized gang. Complainants are not willing to come forward,” said Manzil Saini, who was responsible for busting the infamous Gurgaon kidney racket in 2008. She is now SSP, Lucknow. A rough estimate suggests that over 1,00,00 kidney transplants are performed illegally across the world. “In big hospitals, many a times, doctors performing the operation do not even know that the receiver has got the kidney illegally. The touts forge documents to show that the donor is a relative and obtain the necessary clearance. Receivers, on the other hand, are

ready to pay hefty amounts in order to save their lives. In such a scenario, everyone is a victim apart from the touts, who get commission,” said Rakesh Senger of Bachpan Bachao Andolan, who feels the racket is far bigger than the number suggests. A Nepal-based NGO, Forum for Protection of People’s Rights (PPR), conducted a study on 36 people who were trafficked for organ transplant and are now living in Nepal. While the main reason for their plight was poverty and lack of education, many were promised a house and huge amounts of money, which they never get. Of the 36 victims they talked to, 11 were unaware where the transplant happened, but 18 of them said the transplant happened in Chennai, 6 said it took place in Chandigarh and one person mentioned Delhi. “In most of these cases, Delhi was the transit point. Because of the good health care system in South India, most victims were taken to Chennai. Post their return, the victims are treated badly by locals and termed as ‘kidney seller’. There is obviously a health effect,” said Satish Sharma of PPR.

Remembering the Mahatma: Modi visits Phoenix Settlement

Durb an, July 9 (ianS): Continuing his visits to places associated with the life of Mahatma Gandhi in South Africa, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday visited the Phoenix Settlement near here, a community settlement established by the leader of India's freedom struggle in the early 20th century. “From Pietermaritzburg to Phoenix. and also signed the visitor's book after lighting a lamp. To mark his visit to the settlement, he planted the sapling of a pepper and bark tree. The Prime Minister also visited Sarvodaya, which served as Gandhi's residence till his return to India in 1914. The house was razed to the ground during the apartheid violence at Inanda in August 1985. The South African government reconstructed

it and it was reopened by then South African President Thabo Mbeki on February 27, 2000. Phoenix was the third place Modi visited during his South African tour that is associated with the life of Mahatma Gandhi. Earlier on Saturday, he visited the Pietermaritzburg railway station, the same station where Mahatma Gandhi was evicted from a train compartment on a wintry night in 1893 on

account of his skin colour. Modi told the media that his South African trip was turning out like a pilgrimage as he was getting to visit three places that were very significant for Indian history and Mahatma Gandhi's life. On Friday, the Prime Minister visited Constitution Hill in Johannesburg, where Gandhi was incarcerated in 1906 for resisting racism and apartheid. Later on Saturday,

Modi will have an interaction with the Alumni Network and attend a reception to be hosted by the Indian High Commissioner and the Mayor of Durban before leaving for Tanzania on the third leg of his fournation African tour. Modi arrived in South Africa from Mozambique on Thursday night on the second leg of his African sojourn. On Friday, India and South Africa signed four agreements after bilateral discussions led by Modi and South African President Jacob Zuma in Pretoria. The Prime Minister also addressed an Indian diaspora rally in Johannesburg that was attended by over 11,000 people before leaving for Durban. This is Modi's first visit to mainland Africa and is also the first prime ministerial visit from India to South Africa since then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh arrived in 2013 for the G20 summit in Durban. Apart from Mozambique, South Africa and Tanzania, Modi will also visit Kenya.

NKorea fires missile from submarine but it appears to have failed: SKorea SEOUL, JULy 9 (REUtERS): North Korea fired a ballistic missile from a submarine on Saturday but it appears to have failed soon after launch, South Korea's military said. The launch comes at the end of a week of sharply rising tensions on the peninsula. It is only a day after the U.S. and South Korea pledged to deploy an advanced anti-missile system to counter threats from Pyongyang, and two days after North Korea warned it was planning its toughest response to what it deemed a "declaration of war" by the United States. That followed Washington's blacklisting of the isolated state's leader Kim Jong Un for alleged human rights abuses. The South's Office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement that the missile was launched at about 11:30 a.m. Seoul time (0230 GMT) in waters east of the Korean peninsula. The missile was likely fired from a submarine as planned but appears to have failed in the early stage of flight, the Joint Chiefs said. Neighbouring Japan, the United States, and South Korea's military con-

demned the missile launch as a flagrant violation of U.N. sanctions. South Korea's Yonhap news agency said the missile's engine successfully ignited but the projectile soon exploded in mid-air at a height of about 10 km (6 miles), and covered not more than a few kilometers across the water. The South's military declined to confirm those details citing its policy of not publicly commenting on intelligence matters. The missile was detected in the sea southeast of the North Korean city of Sinpo, South Korea's military said. Satellite images indicate Pyongyang is actively trying to develop its submarine-launched ballistic missile programme in this area, according to experts. The U.S. Strategic Command, whose mission is to detect and prevent strategic attacks against the United States and its allies, said it had detected what it believed was a KN-11 submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM). It was fired from North Korea's east coast port of Sinpo and then fell into the sea between there and Japan, the command said in

gy," said Gabrielle Price, spokeswoman for the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs at the U.S. Department of State. "These actions, and North Korea's continued pursuit of ballistic missile and nuclear weapons capabilities, pose a significant threat to the United States, our allies, and to the stability of the greater Asia-Pacific," she added. The North has conducted a string of military tests that began in January with its fourth nuclear test and included the launch of a long-range rocket the following month. The U.N. Security Council imposed harsh new sanctions on the country in March for its nuclear test and rocket launch. North Korea rejects the sanctions as infringement of its sovereignty and its right to space exploration. Late last month, North Korea launched what appeared to be an intermediate-range missile to a high altitude before it plunged into the sea after covering 400 km in the direction of Japan, South Korean military officials said. That was widely seen as a technological advance for the isolated state after several test failures. South Korea and the

United States said on Friday they would deploy the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) anti-missile system with the U.S. military in South Korea to counter the threat from nuclear-armed North Korea, drawing a sharp and swift protest from neighbouring China, Pyongyang's sole major ally. China's foreign minister said on Saturday that THAAD exceeded the security needs of the Korean peninsula. "We have every reason, and the right, to question the real conspiracy behind this move," Wang Yi was quoted by the state news agency Xinhua as saying during a trip to Sri Lanka. Pyongyang last conducted a test of a submarine-launched ballistic missile in April, calling it a "great success" that provided "one more means for powerful nuclear attack," although it had not had a successful SLBM test flight. A report on 38 North, a website run by the U.S.-Korea Institute at Johns Hopkins University in the U.S., said in May that North Korea’s submarine-launched ballistic missile program is making progress, but it was unlikely to become operational before 2020.

SHANGHAI, JULy 9 (REUtERS): The remains of super typhoon Nepartak made landfall in China's eastern Fujian province on Saturday, bringing high winds and heavy rain, and forcing the relocation of hundreds of thousands of people. At least 420,000 people in four cities including the capital Fuzhou have been urgently relocated, state news agency Xinhua reported. More than 300 high speed trains, almost 400 flights and nearly 5,000 buses have also been cancelled. The storm hit land in Fujian province just before 2 p.m., lashing Shishi city with winds of around 100 kph (62 mph), Xinhua said. We remove content if it celebrates, glorifies violence: Facebook states NEw yORk, JULy 9 (IANS): Facing flak for temporarily removing the video of Philando Castile, an African-American who was fatally shot by a police officer during a traffic stop last week, social media giant Facebook has said that it only removes content if it celebrates or glorifies violence, not if it's only graphic or disturbing. The video of the whole incident was broadcast live by Castile's girlfriend Diamond Reynolds immediately after her fiancé was shot by police in his car and created a furore across the US and on social media. The video disappeared from Facebook Live after nearly one million views on social media and news websites and the social media giant said it was temporarily unavailable due to a technical glitch. However, Facebook refused to tell exactly what caused the glitch. The video, however, returned to the site after about an hour with a warning labeled "disturbing". On Saturday, Facebook explained its censorship policy for Live video "that contradicts theories that

the video disappeared due to Facebook waffling on whether it should stay up, a high volume of reports of it containing violent content, a deletion by police who had taken possession of Castile's girlfriend's phone and Facebook account or a request from police to remove it", technology website Techcrunch reported. The temporary removal raised questions about Facebook's roles and responsibilities for hosting citizen journalism that could be controversial or graphic. According to Facebook's Community Standards, what is and is not allowed on the social network, like pornography to violence to hate speech, applies to Live video, photos and other videos as well. "The policy on graphic content is that Facebook does not allow and will take down content depicting violence if it's celebrated, glorified or mocks the victim. However, violent content that is graphic or disturbing is not a violation if it's posted to bring attention to the violence or condemn it," the company was quoted as saying.

to destroy the Japan, South Korea and the South's main ally, the United States. The missile launch is a "clear challenge to U.N. Security Council resolutions," Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said on Saturday, according to Kyodo news agency.

SyDNEy, JULy 9 (REUtERS): Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull edged closer to winning a majority government on Saturday, securing a 74th seat in parliament as counting of votes in the country's marathon election entered a seventh day. Turnbull's ruling coalition is projected by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation to win at least two of the five remaining seats where counting is still going on. The prime minister needs 76 seats to form a majority government. Counting of votes will continue over the weekend, although a final result is now not expected before next week. Should Turnbull win a majority, it would improve his government's chances of passing legislation through the country's lower house without having to rely on the support of several independent members of parliament. Senator Nick Xenophon, the leader of the independent party that bears his name, said on Saturday that his MPs would not unduly disrupt the workings of any Turnbull government.

"We should strongly condemn the launch by working with the international community," Abe told reporters. Abe said the launch did not gravely affect Japan's national security. The U.S. said it was monitoring and assessing

the situation in close coordination with its regional allies and partners. "We strongly condemn North Korea's missile test in violation of UN Security Council Resolutions, which explicitly prohibit North Korea's use of ballistic missile technolo-

"We want the parliament to work. We want it to be constructive. We want to be part of the solution, not part of the problem. So, for those that want to cause maximum mayhem in the parliament we won't be part of that," said Xenophon. While Turnbull's position would be bolstered by

reaching a majority, political analysts say he remains vulnerable, particularly from the conservative wing of his own party. Local media on Saturday reported Turnbull was considering promoting Immigration Minister Peter Dutton to the National Security Committee - a move seen

as shoring up support from conservatives. Australia has had five prime ministers in just nine years after bitter party infighting toppled a series of leaders. Turnbull, from the moderate wing of his party, ousted Tony Abbott to become prime minister last September in a divisive party-room coup.

‘Black Lives Matter’: a movement that defies definition wASHINGtON, JULy 9 (REUtERS): “Black Lives Matter” has become a mantra for people protesting police violence against African Americans. It’s a hash tag, a popular t-shirt slogan and a movement that is loosely organized – by design. Black Lives Matter was founded by three women who popularized the slogan during protests over the 2012 killing of Trayvon Martin, an African-American teen who was shot by George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer in Sanford, Florida. It has a website (BlackLivesMatter.com) and a network of chapters. But the idea is bigger than the organization. Although the march where five Dallas police officers were fatally shot Thursday was organized by another group, news reports described it as a Black Lives Matters event. “The convenient narrative has been for people, for the media to say, ‘Well, this was organized by Black Lives Matter',” said Tezlyn Figaro, a publicist for Next Generation Action Net-

work, the group that organized the event. The rally "had no affiliation with Black Lives Matter." The confusion flows in part from the decentralized structure of the Black Lives Matter organization and its founders’ desire that it remain open and inclusive. “Not everyone who shows up at a demonstration is a full-fledged member of BLM, (but) they’re welcomed and encouraged to participate,” Melina

Abdullah, a representative of the group’s Los Angeles chapter, said in a conversation with Reuters in June. During the standoff with police negotiators Thursday, the shooter invoked the slogan, saying he was "upset about black lives matter," according to Dallas Police Chief David Brown. The organization disavowed the violence in a post on its web page. “This is a tragedy - both

for those who have been impacted by yesterday's attack and for our democracy,” it said. “There are some who would use these events to stifle a movement for change and quicken the demise of a vibrant discourse on the human rights of Black Americans. We should reject all of this. Black activists have raised the call for an end to violence, not an escalation of it.” That didn’t stop a wave

of social media criticism attempting to tie the violence to the movement. But U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch, speaking about the demonstrations inspired by Black Lives and other groups, drew a bright line between the gunman’s actions and “lawful protest and protected speech.” “Do not be discouraged by those who use your lawful actions as cover for their heinous violence," Lynch said Friday. "We will continue to safeguard your constitutional rights and to work with you in the difficult mission of building a better nation and a brighter future.” Some said the best way to define the movement is by continuing to push a positive message. After a vigil Friday in Dallas for the slain officers, Richmond Bunch played “Amazing Grace” on his violin. “We need to frame out a way to come back to peace,” said Bunch, 35, an African-American Dallas resident and Black Lives Matter contributor. “The guy who committed this act, he doesn't stand for what America is.”

BERLIN, JULy 9 (PtI): The specialised structure of coconut walls may help to design buildings that can withstand earthquakes and other natural disasters, a new study suggests. Coconuts are renowned for their hard shells, which are vital to ensure their seeds successfully germinate. Coconut palms can grow 30 m high, meaning that when the ripe fruits fall to the ground their walls have to withstand the impact to stop them from splitting open. To protect the internal seed, the coconut has a complex structure of three layers: the outer brown, leathery exocarp, a fibrous mesocarp and a tough inner endocarp surrounding the pulp which contains the developing seedling. Researchers at the University of Freiburg in Germany studied how this specialised structure could be applied in architecture. They used compression machines and an impact pendulum to study how coconuts disperse energy. “By analysing the fracture behaviour of the samples and combining this with knowledge about the shell’s anatomy gained from microscopy and computed tomography, we aimed to identify mechanically relevant structures for energy absorption” said plant biomechanist Stefanie Schmier. The study found that within the endocarp layer - which consists mainly of highly lignified stone cells - the vessels that make up the vascular system have a distinct, ladder-like design, which is thought to help withstand bending forces. Each cell is surrounded by several lignified rings, joined together by parallel bridges. “The endocarp seems to dissipate energy via crack deflection” said Schmier. “This means that any newly developed cracks created by the impact don’t run directly through the hard shell,” she said. It is thought that the angle of the vascular bundles helps to “divert” the trajectory of the cracks. The longer a crack has to travel within the endocarp, the more likely it is that it will stop before it reaches the other side. The distinct angle of the vascular bundles in the endocarp could be applied to the arrangement of textile fibres within functionally graded concrete, to enable crack deflection.

Murray crushes Berdych Wales welcomed home by hundreds of thousands of fans to reach Wimbledon final CARDIFF, JuLy 9 (REuTERS): Hundreds of thousands of supporters lined the streets of Cardiff on Friday to give a special welcome home to Wales' European Championship squad. Chris Coleman's team, featuring in a major tournament for the first time since the 1958 World Cup, exceeded all expectations by reaching the semi-finals in France before being knocked out by Portugal. Fans greeted the players and backroom staff at Cardiff Airport before the squad went on an opentop bus parade through the city. "They are amazing scenes and we'll never forget," said talismanic forward Gareth Bale. "It's

very special seeing what it means to the whole country. "It's an incredible feeling and there is no prouder honour than putting on the red shirt for Wales and to share it with all these fans is incredible." Midfielder Aaron Ramsey was also moved by the welcome home. "To see all the support has been phenomenal," said Ramsey. LONDON, JuLy 9 (REuTERS): At least Britain can rely on Andy Murray. With post-Brexit turmoil engulfing the nation's political landscape, sterling plummeting and England's soccer team licking its wounds after a Euro 2016 humiliation, old faithful Murray provided some cheer by reaching a third Wimbledon final on Friday. In tormenting Czech 10th seed Tomas Berdych 6-3 6-3 6-3 on Centre Court, world number two Murray booked an 11th grand slam final appearance, a new British record ahead of Fred Perry. He has contested the final of every grand slam this year and is on an 11-match winning streak on grass -- a run coinciding with his reunion with former coach Ivan Lendl. It will not be the dream final everyone hoped for though at the All England Club. Not that Murray will care. Instead of world number one Novak Djokovic, sent packing on middle Saturday, or seven-times champion Roger Federer,

standing in the way of a second Wimbledon title will be Milos Raonic. The big-serving Canadian powerhouse beat Federer in five sets earlier on Friday to reach his first grand slam final and will pose a significant threat if his 140mph delivery is firing. "Obviously to make a Wimbledon final is a good achievement and I've got one more to go on Sunday," Murray said. "The older you get, you never know how many chances you're going to get to play in a grand slam final. I'm glad I managed to get through today." Murray, apart from two sets against inspired Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the quarter-finals, has looked like a man totally in control of his own destiny since winning the Queen's Club title, against Raonic, in the build-up to Wimbledon. Berdych is a former Wimbledon runner-up and has been resident in the world's top 10 since 2010. But his power game was clinically defused by Mur-

ray - so much so that the one hour 58 minute match was mostly played in a muted atmosphere compared to the edge-of-the-seat drama earlier when Wimbledon favourite Federer was bundled out by Raonic. Murray's only brief wobble came when Berdych pounded some seismic groundstrokes to break back in the third game, having gifted the Scot his own serve with a double-fault. Berdych knew his only chance was to attack at every opportunity but that also led to the kind of errors that allowed Murray another break for a 5-3 lead before the 29-year-old calmly pocketed the first set. The second seed brilliantly saved two break points at 2-3 in the second set as Berdych valiantly tried to make a match of it. From then on it was a one-sided procession as Murray broke Berdych twice in a row to move two sets clear. He repeated the trick early in the third as he closed in on a victory that was never really in doubt.

ROmE, JuLy 9 (IANS): Ten years after the infamous Zinedine Zidane head-butt in the 2006 World Cup final former Italian defender Marco Materazzi has finally revealed what he said to the legend back then. Materazzi and his side went on to win the final 5-3 via the penalty shoot out after Zidane was red carded during extra time. The then 32-year-old had provoked Zidane with his words, which caused him to react that way. Media reports suggested that Materazzi had insulted the French captain's mother, but the Italian insisted it wasn't so. "What I said was stupid," Materazzi told L'Equipe. "But it didn't deserve that reaction." "You would hear stronger words said on the streets of Naples, or Milan, or Paris, much more serious things. My mother died when I was 15, so I would never have insulted his," he added. "I spoke about his sister." The incident overshadowed the 2006 World Cup final and is believed to have cost Zidane the chance to bag the golden ball. Materazzi wishes that he was remembered more for scoring in the penalty shootout as Italy went on win the World Cup. "But it doesn't matter, I don't hold any grudges and never will," he remarked.

Dentist breaks ground for Egyptian women as pundit

Football analyst Manar Sarhan watches the Euro 2016 quarter-final between Wales and Belgium at her home in the Egyptian capital Cairo. (AFP Photo)

CAIRO, JuLy 9 (AFP): Manar Sarhan disinfects her hands after filling a patient's tooth, readying to catch the Euro 2016 match and analyse it for a newspaper as Egypt's first woman in mainstream football punditry. Sarhan, 27, appears weekly on the private CBC television channel to comment on matches in the competition, a rare sight in a field monopolised by former football players, all of them men. "I chose dentistry as a career with my mind, but football is my passion and love," Sarhan tells AFP in a private clinic where she freelances as a dentist. "I tried to play football in the beginning but I didn't find a good opportunity in Egypt and I think specialising in analysing football makes up a lot for it," she says after examining a patient. Sarhan began working in journalism as a volunteer in 2002, using a basic camera to cap-

ture footage for the website of her favourite Egyptian club: Zamalek. Sarhan began writing for the independent AlMasry Al-Youm newspaper and the popular Fil Goal website before she was picked up by satellite sports programmes. By day, Sarhan works in a government medical centre and chips in at a clinic owned by one of her friends. At night, she clears her schedule to follow games and to read the latest in the world of football. "I'm a dentist by day, and a football commentator by night," Sarhan says, laughing as she packs her medical instruments. "The effort put into commentary is more in spite of the return being lower," she says. A profitable profession, dentistry is respected by Egyptians. It was not easy to enter the sports commentary world, especially as a woman. "The field is already

difficult for male youths, so what about a girl?" says Sarhan, who decorates her bedroom with posters of Egyptian and European football players. "I was mocked in the beginning. They would tell me 'Girls belong in kitchens'," she says. Her large following on Twitter suggests otherwise. - Dream beyond Egypt Top European clubs and their games are popular viewing in Egypt, and Sarhan has proven to be an expert in the field. Ibrahim Fayek, an anchor at CBC, says hosting Sarhan was "very strange" in the beginning because she is "a lady and a dentist". Now, he says, he is doing his best to keep her on his show as competitors try to poach her. "Manar has an expansive and deep understanding of football and she presents a different type of football analysis. Her explanation of the different teams' plans and tactics surprised me,"

Fayek tells AFP. At home, Sarhan sits close to a large screen broadcasting Belgium against Wales, jotting down statistics on passing and the players' movements. Nearby lies an old copy of Britain's World Soccer magazine, with the cover featuring Zinedine Zidane, who she said inspired her love for Real Madrid. "I would watch a match twice before writing any comprehensive technical analysis," she says. Her passion for football inspired Sarhan to learn Spanish so she could track La Liga and the club she supports from original sources. She plans to also learn Italian and Portuguese to expand the sphere of European football that she can follow. Sarhan also follows Spanish youth matches and teams that are less wellknown to be able to keep abreast of up-and-coming talents. In one corner of her house rests a ball which her mother says Sarhan still kicks around in the hallway. "Manar has loved football since she was a child. I wanted her to continue her studies in her profession, but she is happy commentating," her mother Magda al-Hawary says with evident pride. Sarhan's dream goes beyond Egypt's borders. "My dream is to work in the field of European football in Spain itself, to become international."

SILVERSTONE, JuLy 9 (REuTERS): Lewis Hamilton put in a sensational late lap under intense pressure to seize pole position for his home British Formula One Grand Prix from Mercedes team mate and title rival Nico Rosberg on Saturday. The triple world champion had just one chance to secure the top slot after an initial effort in the final top 10 shootout was deleted because he exceeded the track limits at Copse corner. With championship leader Rosberg on provisional pole, and Hamilton 10th as the clock ticked away and fans held their breath, the home hero pulled out all the stops to secure his 56th career pole and fourth at Silverstone. "I was sitting in the garage and knew I couldn't let the guys down and I'm grateful I got the final lap in," said the Briton after setting a time of one minute 29.287 seconds. Huge cheers went up around the circuit as Hamilton lit up the screens, with a 140,000 crowd expecting to witness his third successive British Grand Prix win on Sunday and fourth in total. "Lewis in Silverstone with the crowd behind him, it gives him an extra one tenth," said the team's non-executive chairman Niki Lauda. Rosberg, who has an 11 point advantage over Hamilton after nine of 11 races, was due to line up in second place but was summoned to see stewards for an alleged rules breach at the start of qualifying. If the front row is confirmed, Mercedes team bosses are sure to be watching nervously on Sunday after collisions between their drivers in three of the last five races. Hamilton and Rosberg have

been told they are on a final warning, with new rules of engagement and the threat of tough sanctions if they make contact again to the detriment of the dominant team. Dutch teenager Max Verstappen outqualified his Red Bull team mate Daniel Ricciardo for the first time since his promotion to the senior team from Toro Rosso, with the pair filling the second row with Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen fifth. Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel qualified sixth but will have a five place grid penalty for the second race in a row due to a gearbox change. That will move the Williams of Finland's Valtteri Bottas alongside compatriot Raikkonen on the third row in sixth place. Hamilton was not the only driver to have a lap deleted for exceeding

the track limits, with Force India's Nico Hulkenberg suffering the same fate and dropping to eighth behind Toro Rosso's Carlos Sainz. McLaren's Fernando Alonso will start ninth but his 2009 world champion team mate Jenson Button failed to get through the first phase and starts 17th for what could be his final home appearance. There was confusion after the first phase with Button hurriedly returning to the garage to get back in his car when it seemed like Renault's Kevin Magnussen was going to have his time deleted for exceeding track limits. Sauber's Swedish driver Marcus Ericsson did not take part in qualifying after being taken to hospital for checks following a big crash in final practice.

Mallya back in F1 paddock, India a step too far

SILVERSTONE, JuLy 9 (REuTERS): Vijay Mallya has set foot in the Formula One paddock for the first time this season but attending races outside Britain, let alone returning to India, remains a step too far for the exiled tycoon. The Force India coowner's diplomatic passport, which he carried as a member of the Rajya Sabha, was revoked in April with a judge in Mumbai issuing a non-bailable warrant for his arrest. Indian authorities trying to recover about $1.4 billion from his collapsed Kingfisher Airlines want to question Mallya, who flew to Britain in March. He has had an indefinite right of residency there since 1992. In an interview with Reuters inside his team hos-

pitality at the British Grand Prix, Mallya made clear his reluctance to return "unless assured of a fair trial in India, if at all there needs to be a trial. "I am willing to answer all their questions. But why only in India? And why after my passport has been revoked?" he added, saying any hearing could as easily be done in England or by video conferencing. "For me, England is as much home." "It's frustrating that you can't just get on a plane and go but hopefully the legal process will restore my rights sooner rather than later," added Mallya, who bought his country home from the father of world champion Lewis Hamilton. The 60-year-old beer baron, looking slimmer

than in recent times, said he was in good shape "contrary to what people may think" and was more involved with his Silverstonebased team despite being unable to travel. "I have time to lead a far more regulated life," he said. "I have the time to focus on things that I enjoy." PASSIONATE PETROLHEAD Mallya has fitted out his home so he can interact with the team at races but he said that was no substitute for the buzz of being on the pit wall -- particularly at a time when the team are doing so well. Force India have had two podium finishes with Mexican Sergio Perez and a front row start for Germany's Nico Hulkenberg in the last five grands prix.

"I am a petrolhead, passionate about Formula One. Therefore to be here, to absorb the atmosphere, to smell the fuel... it’s that much more satisfying," he said. The team ownership has been under scrutiny, with the business woes of Mallya and co-owners Sahara Group raising speculation about a possible sale to raise cash. Sahara's founder Subrata Roy has been under arrest since March 2014 after the company failed to comply with a court order to refund money raised from millions of small investors. "What is happening to either Mr Sahara or myself is really irrelevant to the team itself, its own stability and own operation and path forward," said Mallya.

Bielsa blames Lazio for shock exit

ROmE, JuLy 9 (AFP): Marcelo Bielsa, who pulled out of coaching Lazio in a shock move just 48 hours after his appointment was announced, has blamed the club for his exit saying it had failed to sign a single player. The intense Argentine, known as "El Loco" (the Madman), called Lazio boss Claudio Lotito overnight Thursday to say he had decided not to come to Rome, triggering threats of legal action from the Italian club. In a curt letter to the Serie A club dated July 7 -- which appeared in Argentine media on Saturday -- Bielsa said: "It had been decided and made clear... that reinforcements were necessary, taking into account the departure of 18 players from last season. "It was agreed, as an essential condition to the implementation of the work program, that we would sign

at least four footballers before July 5, with the aim that they would participate in pre-season training. "To this date, not one player has been signed," he said. "For my method of working we needed to have these players arrive in a timely manner to train." Bielsa also complained that Lazio

announced he was to join the club knowing full well that the conditions he had demanded had not been met. Bielsa, touted for the coaching role left open by Gerardo Martino at the Argentina national team, stressed in the letter that he had "no other work offer in hand". Struggling Lazio finished eighth last season, far behind arch rivals AS Roma. The club had released a press statement on Wednesday announcing to much fanfare that it had snapped up the former Argentina and Chile coach. On Friday it threatened legal action after revealing Bielsa had pulled out of the deal. With pre-season training about to begin, Simone Inzaghi will step in, having taken temporary charge in the second half of last season.

he's become one of the most famous models in the world, so it's only right that Kendall Jenner should star in Fendi's 90th anniversary catwalk show. The 20-year-old beauty wore a beautiful blue coat by the label to walk on a glass catwalk on Thursday night, giving the illusion she was walking on water. The platform was placed in front of Rome's iconic Trevi fountain, where she walked tall in the beautiful creation which flared out. The fountains were designed by Italian architect Nicola Salvi and completed by Pietro Bracci. it is the largest Baroque fountain in the city and one of the most famous fountains in the world. Putting on a leggy display, Kendall wore a pair of contrasting burgundy boots which had white embellishments running throughout. Her raven locks were styled in a half up style with beautiful curls hanging down past her shoulders. Gazing out ahead, she carried a cute bag in her hand.

Kendall also modelled a long taupe gown which was embroidered at the front and teamed with platform lace-up heels. German designer Karl Lagerfeld and Silvia Fendi walked onto the catwalk at the end of the show to rapturous applause. Karl is the head designer and creative director of the fashion house Chanel as well as the Italian house Fendi and his own fashion label. Also putting on a strong show during the catwalk show was her close friend and fellow model, Bella Hadid. The glamazon modelled an array of equally dramatic looks, including a velvet embellished gown with a regal theme. The 19-year-old was also seen sporting a flowing velvet cape, looking every inch the beauty queen as she glided along the water. Kendall was pictured practising her catwalk strut on Wednesday as she prepared for her latest runway show, wearing the same beautiful coat. Clearly having a blast, the reality star poked her

tongue out as she pranced around on the transparent platform. The jaw-dropping set-up was seen in all its splendor in a video posted by Chaos fashion consultancy. In the clip the camera pans from the clear runway to the top of the fountain and ends with creative director Karl Lagerfeld and sound director Michel Gaubert seen standing on the catwalk posing for photos. Fendi will stage their fashion spectacular on Thursday. Meanwhile Kendall spent her Fourth of July in Malibu and rented a $2.2K a night beach house from Airbnb. The brunette beauty shared a photo of her chilling out with pals by the ocean and wrote: 'the 4th in Malibu thanks to @airbnb' According to People, Kendall and Lakers basketball player Jordan Clarkson celebrated the Fourth of July together at the Bootsy Bellows party in Malibu. The magazine also reports that their 'relationship has been getting stronger over the last couple of months.'

C/DC bassist Cliff Williams has said he plans to retire after the current tour, becoming the latest member of the high-decibel band to bow out and cloud its future. "It's been what I've known for the past 40 years, but after this tour I'm backing off of touring and recording," Williams told Gulfshore Life, a magazine about southwestern Florida where the 66-year-old British-born bassist lives. The Australian-born band plans to close a year and a half of touring on September 30 in Philadelphia with Guns N' Roses legend Axl Rose as their frontman. Rose joined for a recent European leg after longtime singer Brian Johnson was told by doctors he risked permanent hearing damage if he kept performing. Malcolm Young, the rhythm guitarist and brother of iconic founder Angus Young, retired before the 2014 "Rock or Bust" album as he suffers dementia. And drummer Phil Rudd was

The "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" star and the "13 Going On 30" actress don't want to rush things. "There is no rush to file (for divorce). They are enjoying life where they are right now... Nothing has changed (in their relationship). They are still all about putting the kids first," the insider said. Source: IANS

AC/DC bassist latest to bow out pushed out after he was arrested on charges of ordering a murder in New Zealand, where he lives. "Losing Malcolm, the thing with Phil and now with Brian, it's a changed animal. I feel in my gut it's the right thing," he told Gulfshore Life of his retirement. His

departure is the latest question mark over the future of AC/DC, which enjoys a loyal fan base and has not announced plans for after the tour. Angus Young, known for his trademark schoolboy uniform, remains the key creative force in the guitardriven band.

Williams joined AC/ DC in 1977 after Young grew musically frustrated with original bassist Mark Evans. Williams was part of the band for 1980's "Back in Black," which remains one of the top-selling albums of all time.

Serena wins 7th Wimbledon, equals Graf's record

London, JuLy 9 (AFP): Serena Williams powered to her seventh Wimbledon crown as the world number one finally claimed a record-equalling 22nd major title with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Angelique Kerber in Saturday's final. Williams had been stuck on 21 Grand Slams since winning last year's Wimbledon, but the American star ended that frustrating barren spell to retain the title and draw level with Steffi Graf's Open era record. Serena was pushed hard by Kerber in a high-quality clash lasting 81 minutes on Centre Court, but the German fourth seed eventually crumbled under a barrage of 39 winners and 13 aces from the defending champion. "It's a great feeling to be here. Angelique brings out great tennis in me," said Serena. "Number 22 is awesome. Centre Court feels like home." Kerber said the American was a great champion. "Serena you deserve it, you are a great champion and

great person. We played a great match," said Kerber. "It's an honour to play on Centre Court and a great feeling." Having avenged her shock loss against Kerber in the Australian Open final in January, Williams was wreathed in smiles as she paraded the Venus Rosewater Dish around Centre Court after collecting a cheque for £2 million ($2.5 million, 2.3 million euros). But the far more significant reward is the knowledge she has reestablished her supremacy at a time when doubters were beginning to question the 34-yearold's hunger for more silverware after consecutive Slam final defeats this year. In a testament to her remarkable longevity as the sport's preeminent force, Serena is once again Wimbledon's queen 14 years after her first success at the All England Club. Equalling Margaret Court's all-time record of 24 Grand Slam titles will be Serena's next goal. The 71st singles title of

Williams' astonishing career also moved her within two of Martina Navratilova's all-time record of nine Wimbledon triumphs. Showing signs of crack-

ing under the pressure of her bid for tennis immortality, Williams had cut a grumpy figure for much of the tournament, earning a fine for racquet smash-

ing and threatening to sue Wimbledon officials if she was injured on a wet court. - Defiant But a serene focus came over Williams with the tro-

tually proved too much for the 28-year-old to resist. A sequence of blistering ground-strokes rocked the German deep behind the baseline on set point, forcing a fatal error that Serena celebrated with a defiant shriek and a prolonged double-fist pump. Kerber was still competing gamely in the second set, but when she finally earned a first break point in the seventh game, Williams got out of trouble with a pair of imperious aces. The German's look of resignation suggested the end was in sight and so it proved as Serena broke in the next game. Serena's coach Patrick Mouratoglou says she enjoys her major triumphs for little more than five minutes before switching her attention to the next target. But judging by the joyous way Williams slumped flat on her back on Centre Court when Kerber miscued on match point, the sweet taste of this historic success might linger a little longer.

UEFA dismisses doping Thunder forward McGary case against Sakho handed five-game drug ban

London, JuLy 9 (ReuteRS): UEFA has dismissed its doping case against France and Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho. "The proceedings against Mr Sakho related to a violation of the UEFA anti-doping regulations after the player failed a doping test (in March)," European football's ruling body said in a statement on Friday. "Following a hearing with the lawyers of the player and experts of the WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) accredited laboratories on this case, the CEDB (UEFA's Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body) has decided to dismiss the case." The 26-year-old Sakho was provisionally banned for 30 days after testing positive for an illegal substance following Liver-

phy in sight and she delivered a 48-minute masterclass against Elena Vesnina in the quickest semi-final in Wimbledon history. With pop royalty Be-

yonce and Jay-Z among Serena's entourage in the players' box, Williams finally hit the right notes after so many recent disappointments. In her ninth Wimbledon final and 28th at the majors, Williams had a golden opportunity to seize the initiative in Kerber's first service game, but the German showed her mettle as she nervelessly saved three break points. Given Williams' pursuit of Graf's historic landmark, it was a delicious twist that the 47-year-old had played a role in Kerber's recent rise after advising her compatriot. Showing she has heeded Graf's words of wisdom, Kerber had sprinted to the final without dropping a set in her six matches and she matched Serena blow for blow in a tense first set. Kerber, in her first Wimbledon final and second major title match, was moving Williams into awkward positions with her lefthanded ground-strokes. But Serena kept slugging away and the barrage even-

pool's Europa League tie against Manchester United on March 17. Last month French sports daily L'Equipe reported the defender would be cleared to resume playing after UEFA decided not to extend the provisional suspension. Sakho's lawyers argued that a fat-burning drug used by the player was not on the list of banned substances, meaning he was not guilty of doping, L'Equipe said. If he had been found guilty of a drugs violation, he would have faced a ban of at least six months. With the case hanging over his head, Sakho was left out of the French Euro 2016 squad that has gone on to reach Sunday's final against Portugal. UEFA gave no immediate reason for its dismissal of the case.

new yoRK, JuLy 9 (AFP): Oklahoma City Thunder forward Mitch McGary was issued a fivegame NBA suspension on Friday for violating the league's drug policy, a ban set to begin in the 2016-17 campaign. McGary, a 24-year-old reserve center, was hampered by several injuries and played only 20 games last season, averaging only 1.3 points and 0.9 rebounds in limited playing time in his second NBA campaign. "I clearly made a mistake and for that I apologize to the organization, my teammates, and our fans," McGary said in a statement published by the Oklahoman newspaper. "I realize there are only so many opportunities given to you and I need make sure that as a person and as a player I take accountability and ensure that this does not happen again."

PARIS, JuLy 9 (ReuteRS): France right back Bacary Sagna, who will face the daunting task of keeping a close eye on Cristiano Ronaldo in Sunday's Euro 2016 final, said team mate Antoine Griezmann now belonged to the same elite club as the Portugal forward. "Ronaldo, we know him. He's one of the best players in the world -- if not the best -- and he has worked very hard to get there," Sagna told a news conference on Saturday. "Antoine, to me, is right up there too, in the same league as Ronaldo and Lionel Messi." Griezmann, who left for Spain as a teenager after being turned down by French academies because he was regarded as not being big enough, matured to become one of the world's most dangerous strikers. "It's a kind of revenge for him after the French academies wouldn't take him," Sagna said. "He made it the hard way and he deserves to be where he is." League final this season, has scored six goals so far in the tournament, more than any player since France's Michel Platini hit a record nine at the 1984 finals. Sagna's immediate problem is Ronaldo, recovering from a sluggish start to the tournament and hungry for his first major title with Portugal. "He's an exceptional player and it won't be easy," Sagna said. "What you have to do is keep a close eye on him all the time, stay close

to him and make sure you don't allow him too much space." Sagna, usually happy to let others take the limelight, has won praise for his performances since the start of the tournament. Softly spoken off the pitch, he has shown his determination on it, notably when he was seen shouting at sometimes shaky centre back Adil Rami. Facing Ronaldo, the Manchester City defender said, would not be a problem.

The failed drug test comes after McGary, who escaped a one-year college ban after testing positive for marijuana by leaving school for the NBA, took a leave of absence from the

team for a few weeks for what the club dubbed "personal reasons." McGary will miss the first five Thunder games of next season for which he is eligible and healthy enough to play.

Jedrzejczyk defends UFC title in rematch with Gadelha

Sunday, July 10

UFC 200 on Sony Six/ESPn Coverage starts 7:30 AM onwards

LAS VeGAS, JuLy 9 (eSPn): Polish sensation Joanna Jedrzejdczyk defended her UFC strawweight title for the third time at "The Ultimate Fighter" 23 Finale, weathering an early storm from rival Claudia Gadelha en route to a unanimous decision Friday. Jedrzejczyk (12-0) surrendered takedowns in each of the first three rounds but avoided taking significant damage and forced Gadelha to expend a lot of energy in the process. As usual, she was brilliant on the feet and eventually ran away on the scorecards in the later rounds. The three judges scoring the fight all had it for the champion: 48-45, 48-46 and 48-46. ESPN.com also scored it 48-46 for Jedrzejczyk. It was the second meeting between the 115-pound rivals. They met in a threeround bout in December 2014. Jedrzejczyk picked up a narrow split decision and would go on to win the UFC championship in her next fight. Although the two exchanged words as recent coaches on TUF, they showed mutual respect after the fight. "We knew it would be a real tough fight," Jedrzejczyk said. "I said after our first fight, she's No. 1 and I am champion. I have so much respect for her." Gadelha, who trains out of Nova Uniao in Rio de Janeiro, embraced Jedrzejczyk after the scorecards were read. The 27-yearold's UFC record fell to 2-2. According to

Fightmetric, Jedrzejczyk out-landed Gadelha in total strikes 234 to 78. In the fourth round alone, she landed 75 to Gadelha's six. Jedrzejczyk improves to 6-0 in the UFC.

Brooks victorious in UFC debut Former Bellator MMA lightweight champion Will Brooks (18-1) picked up a unanimous decision victory against Ross Pearson (19-11) in his UFC debut. Brooks wasn't overly impressive and appeared hurt by punches in the third round, but he controlled pace and range well to earn unanimous 29-28 scores. Brooks, 29, signed with the UFC last month. He vacated the Bellator 155-pound title in May and secured his release from the promotion. He looked at ease in his debut in the Octagon, as he kept Pearson guessing in the opening rounds and used his wrestling to secure a takedown in the second frame. An aggressive Pearson stunned Brooks with a left hand midway through the third round. He followed with an effective kick to the body and a flurry along the fence, but Brooks covered up and eventually circled out of trouble. Brooks won the Bellator title in 2014, after it was vacated by current UFC champion Eddie Alvarez. After the win, Brooks mentioned a future fight against Alvarez. The victory was Brooks' ninth straight win.
