‘None facing difficulty for cow notification in NE’

C M Y K

GUWAHATI, JUNE 10 (PTI): Rubbishing reports of trouble in the Northeast following the Centre's notification on cow slaughter, Union minister Kiren Rijiju on Saturday said nobody was facing any difficulty in the region over the matter. Charging the Congress and "pseudo secular" groups with raising an "obsolete issue", he asked media persons to visit the north eastern states like Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram and Manipur to see whether anyone was facing problems due to the notification. "It is not at all an issue. There is no difficulty in the north eastern region. Everyone is eating what they like. (There is) no clash, no arrest. No one is put behind the bars," the Minister of State for Home Affairs told reporters here. "The Congress is making an issue out of nothing as there is no issue for them. Congress and some pseudo secular groups are raising unnecessary issues which are obsolete. People have rejected them," he said. On being quizzed about protests in some tribal states, he termed them as "political". Asked about the resignation of two BJP district unit chiefs in Meghalaya opposing the notification, Rijiju said, "Only Congress and some others are making it an issue. Do not make an issue out of an individual resignation from the party. "Only Congress is protesting. They are falsely creating an issue of an individual resignation," he said. The Union minister stressed his government would transform the country into a developed one. "The North East was devastated in these years. We will correct it. We will not allow ourselves to get trapped in their (Congress and others) diversionary tactics," Rijiju said.

Political leaders and parties from Nagaland, cutting across party lines, today paid glowing tributes to veteran Naga leader late Shangwang Shangyung Khaplang, the Chairman of NSCN (K) who passed away at the Council Headquarter in Taka on June 9. He was 77. Nagaland Chief Minister Dr Shürhozelie Liezietsu said it was tragic that such an important Naga leader like Khaplang has expired at a time when the protracted Naga political problem is on the verge of being resolved, and the need for all different Naga political groups to come together to air their views and aspirations to the Government of India in one voice is absolutely imperative. The Chief Minister rued that tragedy occurred when Khaplang had, a few months back, conveyed his willingness to have dialogue with the Government provided “issues of substance” were discussed. In memory of the departed soul, and before the mortal remains are interred below ground, Dr Shürhozelie has appealed to “all grieving Nagas to resolve and dedicate ourselves to endeavour with renewed vigour and determination to find a solution to the Naga po-

honourable and acceptable to all stakeholders; and that this protracted problem be resolved during our lifetime and not to bequeath it to the future generations.” “In memory of the departed leader who had dedicated all his life to the cause of the Naga people, let all Naga people dedicate ourselves to strive for peace, harmony and wellbeing of the entire Naga family so that we and our children can march ahead with the rest of the world as equals in the 21st cenChairman SS Khaplang at NSCN (K) Council Headquartury and for ever more,” ters in Taka during a goodwill mission undertaken by Sumi the press statement read. (File Photo) Nagas have lost a great patriot: Rio Lok Sabha MP and former Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio termed the passing away of Khaplang as the end of an era. “Nagas have lost a great patriot, a legendary personality and one of our tallest leaders. He was a person who made every possible sacrifice for the cause of his people and stood up for his people till his last breath,” Rio in his condolence message stated. And as Nagas mourn his demise, the Lok Sabha MP gave a clarion call for Nagas to “rededicate our self towards the cause of unity and work unitedly for achievement of real and genuine peace for our people.”

Nagas have lost a bold leader, says Zeliang Meanwhile, Chairman DAN & Advisor Finance, TR Zeliang expressed regret that Nagas have lost a bold leader before he could fully realize the mission and cherished dreams of the Nagas. Zeliang said during his tenure as the Chief Minister of Nagaland, he had made several efforts to reach out, to request Khaplang to come back into a Ceasefire Agreement with the GOI. “I was deeply touched and impressed when he sent back words of appreciation on sending the Naga Hoho, ENPO, NMA and Church leaders on their second trip to Myanmar with the same mission for Peace,” the DAN chairman recalled.

Indian govt will rehabilitate NSCN (K) if they give up violence: Kiren Rijiju GUWAHATI, JUNE 10 (PTI): A day after the death of National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (NSCN-K) chairman S.S. Khaplang, the centre on Saturday said all Indian citizens in the Naga rebel group will be rehabilitated if they abjure violence. “We appeal that all the Indian Nagas in NSCN-K should surrender and return to the mainstream. We will rehabilitate them. Anybody who gives up violence, we will rehabilitate them. We are giving rehabilitation package from the Indian government,” said union minister Kiren Rijiju. “Anybody who abjures violence and respects Indian Constitution is wel-

come,” said Rijiju. The rebels should take advantage of the rehabilitation package and return, he added. Rijiju, however, said India cannot talk about Myanmarese citizens, who are part of NSCN-K. The minister said Khaplang was the “the heart and soul” of NSCN-K and without him, the organisation will be in a disarray. “The objective of the organisation will never be fulfilled now. So they (rebels) should come back for the sake of the society,” the minister of state for home affairs added. Khaplang died on Friday night following a cardiac arrest at Takka in Kachin state of Myanmar

at the age of 77. The minister said that Khaplang was a Myanmar citizen and he had strong influence in Myanmar. “So some of the Indian insurgent groups were taking shelter under the influence of S.S. Khaplang. So his death is a setback for all dependent organisations,” he added. Rijiju said the Indian government had withdrawn from a ceasefire with NSCN-K after banning it in 2015 through a special notification. “We are facing lots of difficulties due to NSCN-K in areas like Nagaland, east of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and some impact in Assam as well. It’s an illegal organisation,” he said.

His contribution to the noble cause will be remembered in the annals of Naga history and his legacy inherited for generations to come, it added.

Hill People's Day held in Imphal Manipur govt orders probe into pre-election appointments

aizawl, june 10 (pTi): The Joint Action Committee of Kolasib district in Mizoram has lifted the road blockade from National Highway 54 after four days. Hundreds of vehicles, carrying essential goods and other commodities from neighbouring Assam, entered Kolasib district last night, after the blockade was lifted. The JAC had called the 'indefinite' blockade as a protest against the transfer of a surgeon from the district hospital without a replacement. The blockade was lifted after the state government withdrew the transfer order of the doctor. The road block on the 850 km long National Highway, connecting Assam and Mizoram, had caused hardship to the people as large number of vehicles were stranded on NH 54 leading to shortage of essential commodities.

People gathered at the gate since early morning to get inside the complex today as well. The Chief Minister said that village chiefs and leaders of the various organisations mainly put up issues concerning bad road condition, drinking water problem, absence of playgrounds and community halls etc. Biren said that he has been able to discover many unnoticed issues and matters on Hill People’s Day and Meeyamgi Numit. The Chief Minister further said that many people, who had been affected by the recent flash flood, had also brought their grievances to his notice. Stating that necessary follow-up actions are regularly effected by his office regarding the issues recorded on Hill People’s Day and Meeyamgi Numit, the Chief Minister said that appropriate steps are under process

for around 60 per cent of the issues/complaints. Conveying that the proposal for a topographicalbased budget had been accepted by the Central Government, the Chief Minister said that most of the problems faced by the people of hill districts can now be sorted out through recently announced Hill Area Development Programme, which would initially cover Chandel, Tamenglong and Churachandpur districts of the State. Regarding the helplessness faced by eligible and capable youths belonging to poor families, Biren said that the Government would consider giving preference to them in Government jobs. The Chief Minister further said that a detailed project report amounting Rs 600 crore for revamping inter-village roads and approach roads had been sent to the Centre.

KSSu supports PSaN ultimatum Kohima, June 10 (mexn): The Kohima Sumi Students' Union (KSSU) has extended support to the Public Service Aspirants of Nagaland’s (PSAN) ultimatum to five departments – Rural Development, Social Welfare, Labour Employment, Art and Culture, and Treasuries & Accounts. “The KSSU will not tolerate the misuse of power by some individuals for the vested interest overlooking all merits,” asserted a press statement from Hikavi Kinimi, President and Litina Aye, Secretary Women Affairs of KSSU. It further appealed to the departments concerned to immediately cancel “illegal backdoor appointments” and demanded requisition of all posts that fall under the purview of NPSC. Meanwhile, the union warned the government not to bypass the office memorandum issued through the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (Administrative Reforms Branch) Vide No. AR-5/ASSO/98 dated 6th June 2016. The office memorandum, it said, had banned all adhoc/ casual/ temporary/ workcharged appointments in the State. The OM said, “Any appointments made on the contract basis, henceforth, shall be null and void,” according to the statement. The KSSU further assured to support PSAN in “cleansing the menace of backdoor appointment in its entirety.”

Khaplang remembered as one of tallest Naga leaders Dimapur, June 10 (mexn): Several organizations today mourned the death of SS Khaplang, Chairman, NSCN (K). He passed away on June 9 at the age of 77. Naga Hoho: The Naga Hoho with “deepest sincerity” saluted and bid final goodbye to Khaplang, “one of the legendary figures in the making of the Naga History.” The life of SS Khaplang, according to a condolence message from P. Chuba Ozukum, President, Naga Hoho was marked by trials and tribulations wherein he stood tall building the Naga nation. “He was a man who dedicated his entire life for the cause of Nagas till his last breath. He safeguarded the Naga nation against massive adversaries and thereby his life and leadership trans-

pired inspiration and conviction to uphold the Naga nation,” the Naga Hoho described. Stating that the NSCN (K) Chairman’s death has left a void but has also instilled hope that the Naga people will continue to grow, the Hoho affirmed, “Even as the Naga nation mourns his death, we shall arise to continuously uphold the Naga nation. We salute his leadership, vision and sacrifices.” It further acknowledged that “we have indeed lost a great leader and a fatherly figure in the passing away of our beloved leader Late SS Khaplang.” In his death, it added, the Nagas have not only lost a veteran Naga nationalist but a “forthright statesman” who is irreplaceable. “This is a time for the Naga people to ponder seriously and take up the great

Bending Water with Static

H

ere’s an easy and fun science experiment that’s great for helping kids learn about static electricity. Try bending water with static electricity produced by combing your hair or rubbing it with an inflated balloon, can it really be done? Give it a try and find out! What you'll need: • A plastic comb (or an inflated balloon) • A narrow stream of water from a tap • Dry hair Instructions: • Turn on the water so it is falling from the tap in a narrow stream (just a few millimetres across but not droplets). • Run the comb through your hair just as you normally would when brushing it (do this around 10 times). If you are using a balloon then rub it back and forth against your hair for a few seconds. • Slowly move the comb or balloon towards the stream of water (without touching it) while watching closely to see what happens. What's happening? The static electricity you built up by combing your hair or rubbing it against the balloon attracts the stream of water, bending it towards the comb or balloon like magic! Negatively charged particles called electrons jump from your hair to the comb as they rub together, the comb now has extra electrons and is negatively charged. The water features both positive and negatively charged particles and is neutral. Positive and negative charges are attracted to each other so when you move the negatively charged comb (or balloon) towards the stream, it attracts the water's positively charged particles and the stream bends!

God Lets Loose Karl Barth Douglas Horton

“B

eware,” warns Emerson, “when the great God lets loose a thinker in this planet. Then all things are at risk. It is as when a conflagration has broken out in a great city and no man knows what is safe or where it will end.” Nothing less than conflagration appears to have broken out in the religious thought of Europe. Many incendiaries may be pointed to, but there is one whose torch seems to have burned more brightly and to have been applied more effectively than that of any of the others. Five years ago one began to hear, at the tables of the student clubs and restaurants of Germany, the name of Karl Barth. A young theologian recently called from Switzerland had made an amazingly impressive debut at the University of Göttingen. His chair-- that of Reformed or Calvinistic theology-- was subsidized in part by American Presbyterians, and was not in itself sufficiently exalted to catch the eye of Lutheran Germany. This circumstance made only the more significant the number of students who soon crowded his lecture hall, and the number of students, professors and townspeople who filled and overflowed any church where he had been advertised to preach. He was remembered by many as having been himself a student in Tübingen and Berlin little more than twelve years before. Even then he had been marked as a man of unusual, if not wholly conventional, vitality. Born in Basel, in 1886, he had returned at the end of his university career to be the minister of the church in the little town of Protestant Aargau, north of Lucerne; and there, during the war period, he had preached on Sunday mornings before the good peasant folk, to the antiphonal booming of guns in near-by Alsace. The sombre thought of guns and of the stricken and perplexed Europe, governed then by guns, gave him long hours in his study. He studied, dreamed and wrote, until, almost simultaneously with the armistice, was announced the publication of his commentary on the Epistle of St. Paul to the Romans. It was this which elicited his call to Germany. Of all the commentaries which have appeared since the birth of biblical criticism, this is the weirdest. It is in reality 500 pages of pithy sermons upon the verses of the epistle taken in order. Of learned exegesis

it is innocent, though not contemptuous. Of mighty feuilletons of etymology and textual apparatus there is no trace. It is a veritable Koran for paradox and want of sequence. But by the scholarly and lay world alike it was found fascinating. For four years, until his departure for his present eminent position at Munster, Professor Barth remained at Göttingen, and during that time he saw his theology, set forth in further books and in lectures and addresses, sweep through the universities of Germany, and today there seem to be hardly more than two classes of religious thinkers in the country, Barthians and anti-Barthians. It is little wonder that Barth has been called by Count Keyserling the man who saved Protestantism in Germany. In the year that he took his seat on the faculty at Göttingen, no less than 246,302 nominal Lutherans, under the new laws of the support of the churches by taxation, professed atheism. Whether or not the work of Barth and his friends Gogarten, Thurneysen and others directly affected the drift of popular opinion in the republic, it is nonetheless true that the turn of the tide back toward the churches was almost synchronous with the beginning of the Barthian movement. As for the world of thought, the very furor the young theologian has aroused in academic Protestant circles proclaims him a portent of the first magnitude. Harnack, the Zeus of the historical critics, has broken the seclusion his years would seem rightly to permit him to indite a series of essays against the new movement. Professor Troeltsch -- whose too-early death is lamented on every hand -- and Professor Julicher, two other Olympians of the last great generation, have treated Barth with seriousness and apprehension. For every critical Oliver, the Barthian theology has an admiring Ro-

land. Young Germany hears the new gospel gladly. And Professor Lange, whose painstaking researches in Reformation and post-Reformation history make his utterance authoritative, does not hesitate to call Barth "the greatest man since Schleiermacher." Among Roman Catholic writers are found almost as many eager friends of the new thought as among Lutherans and Calvinists. In general they seem to accept it as far more cousinly to their own doctrines than anything else Protestantism has produced since the days of the Reformation. But the crowning tribute to the man Barth is the almost universal acknowledgment of religious debt which even his critics have made to him. The acrimonious words which are likely to flash from any debate, and which have not been wholly absent from this, are smothered beneath the expressions of generous gratitude with which opponent after opponent prefaces his discussion. One of the secrets of the swift access the new theology has found into the life of the Continent is that it takes its beginning from the scene in the local church rather than in the university library. Barth, like Schleiermacher, and unlike many of the book-theologians of the last decades, has enjoyed the inestimable advantage of a pastoral contact with real people. His approach to the problem of life and the beginnings of his "theology of crisis" were made when as a minister he first realized the utter impossibility of communicating to his hearers the faith by which he himself was animated. According to Barth, man is safe upon the sea that lies between God and the world as we know it because the sea is God’s and he made it, but he persistently tries for the Godward shore, and is usually either expecting to reach it or deluding himself that he has already done so. Security

is his aim and illusion -- economic security, religious security, moral security, intellectual security. But there is no way from man to God. For man to attempt to know God and to solve the problem of life is to set sail upon this infinite sea. His best hope will be to beat back and forth into the wind, but what can it profit him? Philosophy is only an endless oscillation, a dialectic never finished. Professor Barth’s ethics are such as to delight the realist without disturbing the idealist, the search for the morally right being a form of hopelessness, but a thoroughly sanguine form. Its object is always attainable but never attained. Here Professor Barth is the embodiment of the continenta1 reaction to associating Christianity with a particular social movement, whether it be "kultur," pacifism, socialism or anything else. His part of Switzerland had been heavily under the influence of Ragaz of Zurich, the blazing prophet of social Christianity who, like his friend Walter Rauschenbusch, saw in the labor movement the greatest single contemporary salient of the advancing kingdom of God. Barth gathers the questionings of his friends into one gigantic interrogation point, and flings down to ethical theory the demand that it base itself not upon the conscious will of man but on the uncertainly, though actually, felt will of God. The truest rallying cry that can be used by any leader, he would say, is that suggested by Carlyle for Margaret Fuller, "I don’t know where I am going; follow me!" There is a trend in morality which corresponds to the dogmatic movement in thought. We become superior, and if we are honest with ourselves we will recognize our superiority -- but the shorter name for conscious superiority is pride. Pride being the hatefullest of the virtues, the human spirit now turns away from this certain-sure morality, though it has nothing else in particular to turn to. It begins to ride loose to all current ethical forms. It loses squeamishness about the decencies. It extols freedom as an end in itself. It becomes emancipated. It bobs its conscience. It blows ideals as smoke rings. It hates Eighteenth Amendments because they are constitutional. It will maintain its emotional integrity. It will follow its own desire. But no mood is more perfectly unsatisfactory to the morally in earnest. They do not wish to follow their own desire; they wish to

follow God’s. There is nothing left but to fall back on paradox -- to seek God’s will zealously with the conclusion foregone that God’s will cannot be found -- to join the contemporary crusades for righteousness with the conviction that they will be one day proved, like the great Crusades, to have been ill advised and wrong! This is not discovering God’s will, but it is, after all, acknowledging it. Professor Barth’s animadversions upon worship are the very dissidence of dissent. To him the ordinary service of the church is the maddest of all man’s efforts to reach God. One can expect from it only an unedifying oscillation between fictitious spiritual tranquility and honest skepticism. Shall one then enjoy God in worship, when the naked essence of such worship is a selfish self-hypnosis? -- or shall one, in want of any certainty, eschew the life of prayer entirely? The paradox, once more, is our refuge: let a man realize at once his infinite need for finding God, and the infinite futility of his search, and in the clash of those two infinities within his soul, the God of the infinities will be adumbrated -- but only adumbrated Many of his critics have harassed the young professor of Münster for what they name his desperate pessimism. "There is no way from man to God." They forget his other theme: "There is a way from God to man." It is in this thought that his paradoxes are ultimately resolved; since any attempt to use God, even for purposes of describing him to others, throws us into dilemma, we must allow him to use us. "There is a way to come into relation with the righteousness of God. This way we enter not by speech, nor reflection, nor reason, but by being still." God, in a word, takes the initiative and reveals himself. Allow him then to do so, preaches Barth. It is only when you are agonizedly aware of the failure of your own effort that God begins to move upon you. Karl Barth, in a word, is a reincarnation of John Calvin. His message, in nuce, is the Sinaitic sovereignty of God. Only when you ultimately confess the poverty of your own thought, only when you acknowledge yourself a bewildered sinner in his sight, only when you know yourself, even at the gate of death, to be the shadow of a breath, will the vast Transcendence make you miraculously aware of himself in you. He will come to you as strange content

of reality, rather than form, for form is only your manner of adopting him. Give him form, and his presence shrinks back into a hint. Add nothing to him, and he will remain to you the dreadful Perfect. To the German people, stunned by the war and the consequences of defeat, their former optimism shattered and spent, shuddering to contemplate the debt-darkened years of the future, Barth in the phase of his dreadful insight into the futility of all search for security must seem a veritable Jeremiah, and his teaching an evilly perfect rationalization of their indigence and perplexity. But in the phase of his harking back to the perfect sovereignty of the ruler of this world and all worlds, his words must seem an embodiment of their one hope. Professor Barth has recently been introduced personally to a paradox which he is not the first man in history to have discovered: he now knows that the people stone their prophets. On the occasion of his being called to succeed the venerable Doctor Ludemann in the chair of systematic theology in Bern, such a storm of protest arose from an articulate group of Bernese churchmen as would have dismayed the doughtiest. There is "culture-Protestantism" elsewhere than in America. Its devotees in Switzerland do not relish this theologian’s suggestion that the modern worship of the state or even of the family, instead of God, has the same effect as the worship of the "beast of the bottomless pit" or of some "voracious idol." They join with others in their own country and in Germany in condemning his thought as "desperado-theology." To Barth, being such a one as saith among the trumpets, Ha Ha! The very protest must have made the call more tempting; but he declined. As an immense counterblast in his behalf, the voice of the friends of the new viewpoint was lifted up throughout the German-speaking world. There is a vast company of folk in stations high and low who find his paradoxes singularly satisfying and alive. They feel in them a hint of "Reality" -of a Reality which we cannot reach but which can reach us. Among this company many of our English poets and thinkers would, I am persuaded, have numbered themselves. This is hardly strange in view of the long-standing influence of Calvin among us. Douglas Horton translated the earlier works of Karl Barth, thus introducing him in full-dress to public just becoming aware of this new giant on the theological scene.

W

e may not be inspired to become Olympic runners, but we should all be stirred to stand up for our faith, stick to our convictions and pursue God's calling. (Pixabay) Recently I read a quote that inspired me, "Aspire to inspire before you expire." After all, shouldn't that be the goal of every Christian—to use the limited time we have on this earth to inspire others. But before we can truly inspire others, we must be inspired ourselves. The word "inspiration" is found twice in the Bible, once in both the Old and New Testament. "But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding" (Job 32:8, BRG). The Hebrew word translated "inspiration" in that verse means "a puff, wind or vital breath." Most modern versions render it "the breath of the Almighty." Then, in 2 Timothy 3:16-17, Paul wrote, "All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction and for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work." The Greek word translated "inspiration" here means "divinely breathed in." The term "inspire" means "to take air into the lungs as in breathing, to guide or control by divine influence." So, when we are inspired, we are moved by the Holy Spirit to action by supernatural influence. Inspiration results in motivation to do something significant for God or others. People get inspired to compose a song, write a book, preach a sermon, teach a lesson, take a mission trip, witness to the lost, help a neighbor or get involved in some worthy cause. When God breathes on you, you can't remain passive; rather, you are prompted to get involved in some area of ministry. True Christians believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God. D. L. Moody said, "I know the Bible is inspired because it inspires me." Peter gave us insight on how the Bible was inspired: "For no prophecy at

any time was produced by the will of man, but holy men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God" (2 Pt. 1:21). The Bible was written by at least 39 authors over a span of 1500 years. How could so many people over such a long period of time write on so many subjects in total agreement? That's not a coincidence. That's inspiration. God breathed upon them. People don't reject the Bible because it contradicts itself; they reject it because it contradicts them. Remember, God breathed into Adam's nostrils, and he became a living soul (Gen. 2:7). He was a lifeless form until God breathed on him. Jesus did something similar to His disciples: "When He had said this, He breathed on them and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit'" (John. 20:22). The Apostle Paul taught that we are dead in sin until Christ quickens us (makes us alive) via the Holy Spirit (Eph. 2:1, 5). We've all seen dramatic scenes on TV in which a person performs CPR on someone who has stopped breathing. When they are resuscitated, they return to consciousness. That, in essence, is what revival is—Holy Spirit CPR. Re-vival (to make alive again) is when God breathes fresh life into His church. Revivalist Billy Sunday used a classic response to critics in his day: "Some say revivals don't last. Neither does a bath, but it sure helps!" One of the first movies I ever saw in a theater inspired me—Chariots of Fire. I can still hear and hum the famous musical score in my head. The movie is based on the true story of two British athletes competing in the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris. Harold Abraham, a Jew, overcame racial and class prejudice to compete against Eric Liddell, the "Flying Scotsman," in the 100-meter race. Liddell was born in China to Scottish missionary parents. While in Scotland, his devout sister disapproved of his plan to pursue competitive racing. But Eric saw running as a way to glorify God before returning to the Chinese mission field. When he accidentally missed a prayer meeting, his sister chewed him out and accused

him of not being committed to God. Eric told her he felt divinely inspired when running and that not running would dishonor God: "I believe God made me for a purpose. But He also made me fast, and when I run, I feel His pleasure." The two runners trained for five years and qualified to represent Great Britain in the Olympics. While en route, Eric read in the newspaper that his 100-meter race would be held on a Sunday. He refused to run the race despite heavy pressure from the Prince of Wales and the British Olympic Committee. His personal convictions prevented him from racing on the Christian Sabbath day. Eric's decision not to run made headlines around the world. Liddell spoke at the Paris Church of Scotland and quoted Isaiah 40:31, "but those who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run and not be weary, and they shall walk and not faint." One of Liddell's teammates, having already won a silver medal in the 400-meter hurdles, offered him his spot in the 400-meter race on the following Tuesday. Eric gratefully accepted. The day of the race, the American coach told his runners that Liddell had little chance of winning since the race was much longer than his usual distance. But Jackson Scholz, one of the American runners, gave Liddell a note of support for sticking to his convictions. Liddell outran Scholz and all the American favorites to win the 400-meter gold medal. Eric Liddell eventually returned to China as a missionary where he was killed by Japanese troops in 1945. We may not be inspired to become Olympic runners, but we should all be stirred to stand up for our faith, stick to our convictions and pursue God's calling. Let God breathe on you afresh and inspire you so you can inspire others. Let's all adopt the motto: "Aspire to inspire before we expire." ver 40 years ago, God gave me a vision of Asia and ignited me with a passion for this continent to be transformed with the gospel of Jesus Christ. I am thrilled to declare that today the nations of Asia are shifting and the glory of God is truly being made manifest among His people there. In the past few months, I have had the honor of partnering with leaders in two Asian nations that I would like to highlight: Japan and China. On my February trip to Japan, I was thrilled to see the exploding church growth that is overtaking Tokyo. And most recently, I traveled to China to help raise up leaders in this country that is being transformed with the power and presence of God. In both Japan and China, hearts are turning to Jesus, disciples are being made and God is raising up a generation of revivalists and reformers. Exploding Church Growth in Tokyo, Japan "that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father" (Phil. 2:9-10). In February, I visited Pastor Isaac Masuyama's church, called 21st Century Christ Church, right in the heart of Tokyo. Because Pastor Masuyama is an apostle in both the marketplace and the church, he has been able to finance a 21 million-dollar building in the most expensive part of downtown Tokyo—the only problem is that it's already been outgrown by the congregation. The Japanese are hungry for the presence of God, and more and more are coming to their multiple services ready to learn the Word and worship their Heavenly Father. Pastor Masuyama's church is called not only to see hearts revived by the Spirit of God but to reform the culture and foundations of this nation with kingdom values. In training and equipping Japanese pastors from all over the country, we were able to help prepare them for a massive crusade led by evangelist Daniel Kolenda (which happened this past weekend, May 19th-21st). It was so encouraging to see the unity among different leaders who visited from throughout the country to learn and receive, and it was a powerful time of imparting to those who were hungry to bring a move of God to a country that is on the brink of transformation. Japan has historically been very resistant to the gospel. The traditional religious belief in Shintoism has acted as a spiritual barrier to the growth of Christianity. But God has given me a great burden for this island nation, and it's been such an honor to be involved as this movement is really taking off. I am expectant and excited to see how Japanese nationals will help revive and reform the nation of Japan—God

has begun to move, and the name of Jesus is being made famous. Revival Fire in Beijing, China "I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; then your sons and your daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, and your young men will see visions" (Joel 2:28). I believe he Chinese will play an especially significant role in the global harvest that is coming. Revival has already transformed millions of lives in this nation, and I believe that as the people of China continue to experience the power of God, they will carry it to the nations of the world. Recently, I traveled to Beijing, China for a Wagner Leadership Institute conference for Chinese pastors. Along with a team of HIM leaders, I had the opportunity to train and equip both male and female pastors from all over the country who are hungry, passionate and genuine in their desire for more of God. I have noticed an increase in level of authority and purpose in the Chinese leaders, even on the trip this month. More and more Chinese nationals are praying into this movement and more are going outside of the four walls of the church to spread the gospel. I had the pleasure of having my son Kuoching Ngu, Joy's husband, with me on the trip. He had an incredible word I wanted to share: From day one of the trip (Kuoching), God was speaking to me about the destiny of China, His heart for the Chinese and how they will be able to lead and influence the nations for Christ. God gave me a vision of a map of China with matches being lit all across the country. The matches represent the Chinese who are being ignited with the power of God. As more and more matches are lit, the entire country is engulfed by flames, and the fire then spreads westward across the nations. I believe that this vision shows that this isn't a movement that will be characterized by a few people in the spotlight. This is about advancing the kingdom through a generation of humble, hungry people who just want to chase after the purposes of God. I also have noticed that this movement of God in China is like a spreading fire lit by many individuals, rather than like a flame that relies on a few. The Chinese are bold, and they know the authority they carry as believers in Christ. And as a result of many stepping out in faith and obeying the Word, the glory of God is increasing. Over the next few years, we are going to see even greater transformation in China as more matches are lit and the fire of the Holy Spirit spreads. Amit Shah comes under attack over remarks on Mahatma Gandhi New Delhi/Jalpaiguri, JuNe 10 (iaNS): BJP chief Amit Shah on Saturday came under attack for his remarks describing Mahatma Gandhi as a "shrewd bania" with Congress and other opposition parties demanding an apology from him for "insulting" the Father of the Nation. Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala also demanded an apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi over Shah's remarks while West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee termed them "unethical and unfortunate" and said he should immediately withdraw them. Surjewala told media persons here that Shah had committed a heinous crime and anti-national act. "We demand that Amit Shah, BJP and Prime Minister Narendra should apologise to the people and the families of the freedom fighters of the country for insulting their struggle. Shah has indulged in a heinous crime and an antinational act. There can't be a bigger crime than this," he said. Surjewala said identifying Gandhi with caste exposes the "real face, character and mindest" of Shah. Surjewala said Shah had insulted the sacrifices made during the freedom struggle by associating Mahatma Gandhi with a business model. "Has the entire struggle be-

Addressing a select audience of "prominent citizens" here yesterday evening, Shah also said the Congress was not rooted in any ideology or principles and was sort of a "special purpose vehicle" to secure freedom. In remarks that raised the hackles of the Congress, which demanded an apology from Shah as well as Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP president went on term Mahatma Gandhi a "bahut chatur baniya", a very shrewd baniya. CBI registers case against 6 for cheating bank New Delhi, JuNe 10 (uNi): The Central Bureau of Investigation has registered a case against six directors of a private company for allegedly cheating a foreign bank here. The CBI said that the complainant alleged the private company was in the business of manufacturing of perfumery compounds and trading of agro commodities and the directors arranged companies to show bogus sale and purchase of commodities. The CBI said that searches have been conducted today at the premises of accused in Delhi. " The private company had also cheated the consortium member banks for a total amount of around Rs 2240 crore. Four accused including directors and others of the private company had been arrested by CBI on April 11 and presently, they are in judicial custody. So far, 6 cases have been registered," it stated.

We cannot use such unjustified language about him. It is unethical, unfortunate and uncalled for." "I think such statements should be immediately withdrawn and an apology should be sought," she said. Banerjee felt a simple apology from Shah would not end the matter as, "this is an intentional blunder by him".

Mamata also tweeted and said politicians should be careful about their language. "When we, in public life, speak about icons of our nation and the world, we must always show utmost respect and sensitivity with language," she posted on Twitter. Taking a swipe at Shah, the Trinamool supremo claimed that no one should think of themselves as a superpower just because they are at the helm. Amongst the 1,650 political parties in India, only the BJP and the Communist Party of India have upheld internal democracy, he said. "There are some parties where only dynastic rule prevails. It was clear that after Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi would take over, but nobody can predict who would be the next BJP president after me," Shah said. leaders said that Shah, by calling Gandhi a "chatur baniya", had exposed his own and the BJP's mindset and their real agenda. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar did not comment on Shah's remarks and ignored queries from the media. Aam Aadmi Party leader Kumar Vishwas said he had not heard Shah's remarks but noted that any comment about the Father of Nation should be made by a person who has at least lived one percent of his life the way Mahatma had done.

Al-Jazeera a target in Gulf confrontation with Qatar

DOHA, June 10 (AP): The Arabic news network Al-Jazeera has been thrust into the center of the story as Qatar came under virtual siege by its Gulf neighbors, pressuring it to shut down the channel that has infuriated them with its coverage for 20 years. Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt severed ties with Qatar this week over allegations it supports terrorism and, more specifically, that it uses AlJazeera as a mouthpiece to destabilize the region. The Qatar-based network, one of the most widely seen Arabic channels in the world, had long angered Mideast governments, since at its start it was one the few that presented alternative viewpoints. Critics say it has in past years turned to promoting Islamist movements as a tool of Qatar’s foreign policy. The region’s rulers see many of these movements, including the Muslim Brotherhood, as threats. Qatar and the station deny the accusations. Qatar’s foreign minister told The Associated Press there was no way the country would silence AlJazeera, which says its channels reach 100 countries and 310 million homes worldwide. “If anyone thinks they are going to impose anything on my internal affairs or my internal issues, this is not going to happen. We are an independent country with our own sovereignty,” said Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. He said the allegations are based on “false and fabricated news.” But as Qatar became more isolated this week, so too did AlJazeera. Qatar’s opponents shut down access to the channel and its affiliate websites in their territories two weeks ago. On Monday, they blocked airspace to Qatari flights; Saudi Arabia sealed Qatar’s only land bor-

der; and it and Jordan closed Al-Jazeera offices on their soil. Qatar’s opponents reportedly demand a slate of actions, including shutting down or dramatically changing the tone of the network. The UAE’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar Gargash said the decision to block the channel is “not about AlJazeera, it’s not about the media.” “The media aspect of it is part of what I would say an overall support for extremism,” he said. Al-Jazeera and Qatar have been intertwined since it was launched in 1996, with financial backing from the ruling emir at the time, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani — just months after the Qataris accused Saudi Arabia of a failed coup attempt. Throughout its existence, the station has been mostly funded by the Qatari government. Its chairman is a member of Qatar’s ruling Al Thani

family. Energy-rich Qatar has long pursued an ambitious foreign policy, bucking many of the stances of Saudi Arabia and its fellow Sunni monarchies in the Gulf. For example, it has maintained good ties with Iran, Saudi Arabia’s regional nemesis, and backed the Brotherhood, which Gulf governments and Egypt have branded a terrorist group. Similarly, Al-Jazeera has been a renegade in the Arab media landscape. American viewers became familiar with Al-Jazeera after the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, when its golden-hued Arabic logo became synonymous with video messages by America’s then-Most Wanted Terrorist, Osama bin Laden. The channel aired the messages it received, sparking frequent complaints by then-President George W. Bush’s White House. The station defended its policy, saying the messages were newsworthy.

Al-Jazeera was the first Arab satellite news channel to offer a range of views outside of heavily censored state media. It was the first Arab-owned news outlet to host Israeli officials and commentators, which some analysts note coincided with Qatar’s ties with Israel at the time. Acting Director General of the Al-Jazeera Media Network, Mostefa Souag, told the AP he believes Al-Jazeera is being targeted because “we tell the truth.” “Certain people maybe don’t like the truth,” he said, or possibly too because of the network’s “relationship with Qatar.” “Al-Jazeera is going to continue with its editorial policy. We’re doing the job to the best that we can,” he added. Bassam Awaidah, media professor at Bir Zeit University in the West Bank, said despite Al-Jazeera’s insistence that it is editorially independent, the region’s media are tools in the hands of governments.

“Al-Jazeera’s coverage is clearly biased in favor of Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood,” Awaidah said. “When there is a Hamas wrongdoing, Al-Jazeera hides it, and when a similar or lesser action comes from (the rival) Palestinian Authority, AlJazeera reports it and exaggerates it.” Al-Jazeera’s counterweight is largely seen as Al-Arabiya, a Saudi-owned news channel that closely reflects Saudi policy. It was launched Al-Arabiya launched in 2003, the year after Al-Jazeera’s coverage of a Saudi peace plan with Israel prompted the kingdom to pull its ambassador from Qatar for six years. Al-Arabiya and other media outlets across the Gulf and Egypt have released an avalanche of criticism of Qatar, accusing it of terrorist activities. Home Blood Pressure monitors 70 per cent inaccurate: study tOROntO, June 10 (IAns): Seventy per cent of digital blood pressure monitors used at homes are “unacceptably inaccurate”, and could cause serious implications for people who rely on them, said researchers one of Indianorigin. The study found that about 70 per cent of the time, these digital devices weren’t accurate within five mmHg, when compared to the mercury reading of the sphygmomanometer (used by medical practitioners) leading to flaws in making informed health decisions.

The devices were off the mark by 10 mmHg about 30 per cent of the time. The findings are extremely relevant given millions of patients are asked to monitor their blood pressure through a device at home and report the results back to their doctor, researchers said. Further, the readings were more inaccurate in men than in women. According to researchers, there are many factors that could account for their findings. “Arm shape, arm size, the stiffness and age of

blood vessels, and the type of blood pressure cuff are not always taken into account when a blood pressure machine is designed and validated,” said Raj Padwal, a professor at University of Alberta, Canada. “Individual differences, such as the size, age and medical background of the person using the blood pressure monitor are also contributing factors,” Padwal added. For the study, published in the American Journal of Hypertension, the team tested 85 patients with home monitors. They

noted that steps can be taken to minimise inaccurate readings. Patients should not start or change drugs based on one or two measurements taken at a single point in time unless the measurements are clearly elevated. Patients should also compare the blood pressure machine measurement with a blood pressure measurement in clinic before exclusively relying upon home blood pressure readings. What’s really important is to do several blood pressure measurements

US joins battle as Philippines takes losses in besieged city MARAWI CItY, June 10 (ReuteRs): U.S. special forces have joined the battle to crush Islamist militants holed up in a southern Philippines town, officials said on Saturday, as government forces struggled to make headway and 13 marines were killed in intense urban fighting. The Philippines military said the United States was providing technical assistance to end the siege of Marawi City by fighters allied to Islamic State, which is now in its third week, but it had no boots on the ground. “They are not fighting. They are just providing technical support,” military spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Jo-Ar Herrera told a news conference in Marawi City. The U.S. embassy confirmed it had offered support, at the request of the Philippines government, but gave no details. A U.S. P3 Orion surveillance plane was seen flying over the town on Friday, media said. The cooperation between the longtime allies is significant because President Rodrigo Duterte, who came to power a year ago, has taken a hostile stance towards Washington and has vowed to eject U.S. military trainers and advisers from his country. The seizure of Marawi City on May 23 has alarmed Southeast Asian nations which fear that Islamic State - facing setbacks in

About 40 foreigners have fought alongside the Philippine militants in Marawi City, most of them from Indonesia and Malaysia, though some came from the Middle East. The Philippines military suffered its biggest one-day loss on Friday since 10 troops were killed in a friendly-fire incident on June 1. Herrera said 13 marines conducting clearing operations died after an “intense” house-tohouse firefight during which they encountered improvised explosive devices and were attacked by rocket-propelled grenades. IstAnbul, June 10 (IAns): Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday evening called for lifting the blockade against Qatar, reaffirming Turkey’s support for the Arab country. “I call on the leaders and citizens of the Gulf states, there will be no winner in this fight and slanders will get us nowhere,” the President said at a fasting-break dinner in Istanbul, Xinhua reported. He urged Saudi Arabia to end all restrictions on Qatar and resolve the ongoing dispute through talks. Early this week, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt cut off diplomatic ties with Qatar and imposed sanctions on it on the grounds that Doha supports terrorism, with Libya, Yemen and the Maldives following suit. Qatar has rejected the accusations as “unjustified” and “baseless.” “We will not abandon our Qatari brothers,” Erdogan said. “There is no such thing. Until now I have not seen Qatar give support to terror.” On Thursday night, Erdogan ratified two deals on deploying Turkish troops to Qatar and training its gendarmerie after they were passed by Turkey’s parliament a day earlier.

dia could be fined and jailed. Over the years, Al-Jazeera’s reporters have not been spared the region’s politics and violence. One of its reporters was killed by U.S. fire in Iraq in 2003, though Qatar says it had supplied the military with its office’s coordinates to avoid being targeted. Its bureau in Kabul was hit in 2001 by the U.S. During the 2011 Arab Spring protests, Qatar threw its support behind groups seeking a change in leadership from Egypt to Syria. Qatar backed the Brotherhood-led government elected after the 2011 ouster of longtime autocrat Hosni Mubarak. When the military ousted the Brotherhood in 2013 and cracked down on Islamists, AlJazeera, again, was targeted. Three employees of its Englishlanguage affiliate were convicted and imprisoned over allegations of collaborating with the now-banned Brotherhood.

Two spent well over a year in prison before receiving presidential pardons. Separately, two other AlJazeera employees were sentenced to death in absentia in Egypt for allegedly passing secret state documents to Qatar in an espionage case that included Brotherhood members. Gulf countries fell out with Qatar over its backing of the group. In 2014, Saudi Arabia and others recalled their ambassadors from Qatar over the rift. Eight months later, their ambassadors returned in a deal widely believed to have included stipulations on Al-Jazeera’s coverage. The foreign minister, Al Thani, denied Qatar’s foreign policy dictates Al-Jazeera’s coverage. “Why would I need such a headache if I control it?” he said. If governments have grievances with Al-Jazeera, he said, “they can come and talk to AlJazeera.”

Afghanistan stun WIndies in ODI series opener Ferrari boss denies using team orders saint lucia, June 10 (aFP): Rashid Khan destroyed the West Indies batting line-up with outstanding figures of seven for 18 to bowl Afghanistan to a stunning 63-run victory in the opening fixture of a three-match One-Day International series at the Darren Sammy Stadium in St Lucia on Friday. After opener Javed Ahmadi's 81 provided the foundation for the visitors' total of 212 for six batting first, the leg-spinner Khan tore through an inept home team batting line-up to claim the fourth-best bowling figures ever in an ODI, routing the Caribbean side for 149 off 44.4 overs to take a 1-0 lead in the series ahead of the second match at the same venue on Sunday. Surprisingly brought on as the sixth bowler by his captain, Asghar Stanikzai, with the West Indies at 68 for two after 22 overs, Afghanistan's premier bowler had an instant, devastating impact, removing Jason Mohammed and debutant Roston Chase with his first two deliveries and then repeating the feat at the start of his second over in prising out topscorer Shai Hope (35) and captain Jason Holder. At that point he had taken four for one and he

added the scalp of Ashley Nurse shortly after to have the hosts tottering at 90 for seven. Jonathan Carter and Alzarri Joseph then added 45 runs for the eighth wicket before Gulbadin Naib had Carter caught on the midwicket boundary, paving the way for Khan to return to finish off the match with the wickets of Joseph and Miguel Cummins in quick succession to seal a famous victory. "I have worked hard

on my bowling and this was a really special effort for the people of Afghanistan who have suffered so much in the past week," said Khan on receiving the “Man of the Match” award and acknowledging the devastating truck bombing that killed more than 150 people in Kabul last week, an attack that has sparked anti-government protests. "West Indies are a big team and to achieve this against them is brilliant." - 'No explanation' -

Holder was left bewildered by both his team's capitulation and the painfully slow batting which preceded it. "There's really no explanation for what happened out there other than we were not professional in the way we went about getting those runs," he stated. "I won't even respond to suggestions that we underestimated Afghanistan but will expect us to come with a totally different effort on Sunday."

Earlier, the Afghans were struggling to get any momentum in their innings despite Ahmadi's effort which equalled his previous best in ODI's. He never really dominated the bowling and when he eventually departed in the 37th over with the score at 131 for five, Afghanistan were desperately in need of acceleration. His innings spanned 102 deliveries and included two sixes and eight fours. That much-needed urgency was finally injected into the innings with the arrival of Naib at the crease as he belted an unbeaten 41 off 28 deliveries, dominating an unbroken seventhwicket partnership of 58 with Mohammad Nabi (27 not out). Holder was the main sufferer in the late assault, conceding 36 runs off his last three overs. In an attack dominated by pacers, offspinner Nurse emerged as the most successful of the West Indies bowlers, taking two for 34 off his ten-over allotment. "I knew on this pitch a total of 220 would have given us a chance," said a delighted Stanikzai. "We weren’t at our best in the T20's and I am happy we are now showing what we are capable of."

Woods told arresting officer he had taken Xanax OrlandO, June 10 (reuters): Tiger Woods told police he had taken the anti-anxiety drug Xanax when he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of an intoxicant in Florida last month, golf.channel.com reported on its website on Friday. The website posted the unredacted Jupiter Police Department report from the incident on May 29, when Woods was found asleep at

the wheel of his Mercedes by the side of a road in the early hours of the morning. "I asked Woods if he had taken any medication to which he stated ‘Xanax’," police officer Christopher Fandry wrote in the report. Xanax, the generic version of which is called alprazolam, is often prescribed to treat anxiety and depression and is also commonly used as sleep medication because of its

sedatory effect. The 41-year-old tested negative for alcohol after his arrest and later released a statement saying he had experienced an unexpected reaction to prescription medicines. Woods is the winner of 14 major championships, second only to Jack Nicklaus, but has hardly played in the last 22 months, during which time he has had multiple back surgeries.

MOntreal, June 10 (aFP): Ferrari team boss Maurizio Arrivabene on Friday denied that the Italian team used any team orders at last month's Monaco Grand Prix where Sebastian Vettel triumphed after 'jumping' team-mate Kimi Raikkonen in the pitstops. As Finn Raikkonen topped the times again in Friday's practice for Sunday's Canadian Grand Prix, Arrivabene faced reporters at a news conference where he stressed that Ferrari were focused on winning the constructors' title. "I always said that it's

not that situation in the team," said Arrivabene. "We are looking forward to the championship. We do all our best for the Constructors' Championship and to be able to do well you need two drivers. "This is very important for the house -- this is very important for Ferrari." He added: "I was very, very clear since the beginning of the season, about our rules of engagement. Our team is above everything, but we're not going in one direction or the other. "There are no team orders. This is very, very clear.

The drivers know about this and accept it." He said he laughed when he read reports of what was believed to have happened in Monte Carlo. Raikkonen also shrugged off the controversy and made light of his form on Friday when he was fastest again. "I'm happy," he said. "But it's only Friday. I don't try to make a big story out of it. Things went smoothly, it was a very normal Friday in which I had very good feeling with the car. "We still have work to do, we'll try to improve and fight for pole. Let's see."

Mallya dismisses speculation of any possible Force India sale

lOndOn, June 10 (reuters): Troubled Force India co-owner Vijay Mallya has dismissed speculation of a possible sale of his team to Australian David Brabham or Formula One's former commercial supremo Bernie Ecclestone. In an interview with talkSPORT radio broadcast on Friday, the flamboyant liquor and aviation tycoon said he remained in for the long haul despite his legal problems with the Indian government. "There have been no conversations with Brabham, I haven’t even met them," he said. "Bernie and me are good friends, will always continue to be good friends and there is absolutely no talk whatsoever on a sale of this team." Ecclestone owned the now-defunct Brabham team, founded by Australia's late triple world champion Jack Brabham, in the 1970s and 1980s. Britain's Autocar magazine reported last month that the champion's son David, an ex-Formula One driver, could buy Force India as part of a project to bring Brabham back to the sport for the first time since 1992. Other reports suggested that 86-yearold billionaire Ecclestone was involved in the bid. Mallya, being pursued by Indian authorities over unpaid loans tied to his defunct Kingfisher Airlines, was arrested in London in April and is due in court next week for an extradition hearing. India had asked Britain to extradite

Mallya to face trial after he fled there last March following a move by banks to recover about $1.4 billion that Indian authorities say Kingfisher owes. Mallya, who has not left the country in more than a year and was able to attend only the British Grand Prix last season, has repeatedly dismissed the charges against him and defended himself in messages on Twitter. "These extradition proceedings are based on various allegations made by the government of India and now the matter (is) before a UK judge, I am not going to comment further," he told talkSPORT. "As far as the ownership of Force India is concerned, whether I continue to live in the UK or am sent back to India, the ownership structure of the team does not change at all. "These extradition proceedings have nothing to do with either the ownership or the management of the team." Mercedes-powered Force India are currently fourth in the championship after six of 20 races.

Awareness for North East people in Bangalore Vezokho Resu (Akho)

B

angalore in recent years is falling prey to many social issues where we NE people are playing the hardest victims. This article is forwarded to all concerned citizens of North East for the benefit and awareness of our fellow North East people. NE people who have a plan to either pursue higher education, job, business, or any other activity in the city of Bangalore and other places within Karnataka should be made aware. Being a hub of IT companies and reputed educational institutes and so much more to add which attracts many people

from different states and NEPEOPLE in particular to come to Bangalore in pursuance of their dreams, but what is important to note is that many people rush with their plans ignoring to access the important information necessary for them to get what they want from the place. My consciences are clear as I write this article because I want every individual to know and understand our life and career are precious and that every effort must be made to establish a life where dreams are fulfilled and there is no regret. Well, I am not discouraging anyone from choosing Bangalore because no doubt it is one of the finest cities in India where many aspirant dreams are met fulfilled but my main concern here which I want our

fellow people to know and understand is to always be vigilant and have up to date news about any places they choose. Since its inception in the year 2012, North East Welfare Association, Karnataka (NEWAK) has been dealing with so many issues and by the grace of God succeeded in solving them in several ways with the help of Bangalore City Police, Local NGO'S, Human Rights, Alternative Law Forum Bangalore and Government of Karnataka etc. In spite of the successes we have made and achieved, we cannot just rule out the fact that we are still on that edge of the rock where strong storms are constant and it is important to have a stronghold so as to survive the storm, which I

ith the exception of a rare few leaders, humanity is comprised of followers. So, what makes a man a leader? All men possess a measure of knowledge, wisdom and courage; but a leader Understands the Desires and Aspirations of his people and is willing to undergo Deprivation and Self-Sacrifice to see that His People, not He Himself, achieve their desires and aspirations. The unfortunate demise of S.S. Khaplang has left the Nagas bereft of a true leader of men. For he possessed the desire to fulfil the aspirations of all Nagas; and he remained true and steadfast to this aim to the end. We, the Nagas of India let him down time and again, but we were always assured of safety and sanctuary anytime we desired shelter in his lands and among his people. What did Mr. Khaplang and the Nagas of Myanmar know about freedom/independence/sovereignty; from either India or Myanmar? We gave them the Dream of a United Naga People, and they, in their innocence, believed and followed us. Then, we, with our perverted knowledge, introduced them to factionalism and tribalism and to the concept that money is more important than Honesty, Ideals and Principles. I do not purport to know God, but I believe I know Him as well as any other human being; and it is my firm belief that Mr. S.S. Khaplang can stand in Judgment before Him and say, with all honesty, “Lord, I did all I did in the firm belief that I was serving You and Your People. I remained true to my Beliefs and Ideals to my very last breath.” May The Good Lord forgive him for any sins he may have committed; May The Lord Bless his descendants and his people; and above all, may The Lord Bless the Nagas with more Leaders of his calibre. God Save The Nagas.

mean awareness about certain issues is important and having the knowledge and means to face and deal with such issues if in case they occur to anyone. Following are some selected issues among many where we North East people play the victims and where North East Welfare Association Karnataka (NEWAK) has been working both by creating awareness and fighting for the rights of the NE-PEOPLE. As it is not possible to pen down all the issues and cases dealt by the Association for the past 5 (five) years, I rather be more specific and recent on the issues faced and dealt by the NEWAK for the last 5 (five) Months of this Year. 1. rophesy is to speak as a mediator between God and mankind. There are men and women who truly bring down the message of God for the conversion of oneself and others. These prophets play important role in the social conditioning of people towards religious living in the fear and love of God. Like Israelites, Nagas too has produced many prophets and prophetess. Their prayers and good lives sustain the general ignorant people. Good souls in the Church are treasure to the society. There are also some people who act like prophets to get better recognition in the society. They would pray at the top of the voice to open the deaf ears of God. They bang the altar, pulpit, benches and tables of the Church during prayer as though those objects committed the most grievous and mortal sin. They do this because the same could not be done at home. They respect their own property, not Church property. They would prophesy about others life, but not their own. One common thing in every prophecy is “Death or Coffin.” I wonder at such unity among all prophesy in Nagaland. They would threaten people with death and coffin. They would say,

Cheating case for Job Placement: one girl from Manipur was rescued. 9. Accident Cases: One from Mizoram, one from Manipur and one from Chakhesang community, Nagaland. Beware of false prophesy Rev. Fr. G. L. Khing Kohima

“Ohhh, I could see two three coffins at your door. One member of your family is sure to die this year.” Wow!!! This is amazing prophesy. I really like it because at least they are prophesying in the name of God. The rest of the story may be utterly wrong. If they have ten eyes, they may see thirty to forty coffins. Luckily, they have two eyes to fit into the eyes of God. When will Nagas get some good prophesy of blessings and graces? I am Still hoping against hopeless prophesy. One fine evening, my aunt rang up to me. I was more surprised because I never get her call. With a sad tone, she told me, “Please pray for me because Mrs. ABC told me that my life has become short. I need to fast seven days to avoid such curse from God.” It was a joke for me. I replied her with better encouragement not to believe in such fraud prophesy. I further told her to be happy and not to take those words to heart because it is never/not the word of God. Raising the family under the blessings of God is better than living

under those false prophesy. There are many ignorant Christians who believe in such portend. They would go to some prayer centres and fast for days and days and die of hunger and thirst. This is truly an early death. The prophecy has come to fulfillment. The Prophets in the Bible pray and fast together with the people. But Naga prophets force others to fast and pray while they feast in their homes and prayer meetings. Every prayer meeting is a big feast. “Eat well and pray well.” This type of prophets usually sleeps in peace because they successfully manage to cheat many souls every day. But the victim lies sleepless with the disturbing thought of death and other disasters that may come upon them. Many prayer groups also do the job of devil rather than God’s work. They pray to God and do satanic deeds. They poison good Christian families with black prophesy. Most of them pretend to be so holy during prayer but afterwards live with two horns in the society. They imagine them-

absolutely Not. Our only concern is for awareness and for your pre-information as we come to a city with dreams and so our priority vary in our personal life sometimes, demands at colleges or work and we carried away by all that but trust me knowing or connecting with your respective Association States Leaders if not NEWAK will be of good help as it has a great impact not only connected but in life perspective all together. The Association has got a Blog on Facebook which you can follow up and see the Association engage to our NECommunity and stand for our right. Our primary concern is we want your safety, not to be cheated whether for college admission or job placement.

selves to be taken up to heaven during prayers and speak in tongues which seem like Korean and Chinese languages. May be they watched some movies of Jackie Chan, Jet li, Lee Min ho, Kim Soo-hyun, Song Joong-ki, Lee Jong-suk and imitate them during prayers and called it gift of tongues. Later, they go back home with doubletongue speaking against others inside their own homes and kitchens. The growth of tail attracts many followers. The longer the tail, more followers. God does not like this type of selfmade prophets and prophesy. People who are actively involved in this black ministry need to do away it and live an honest Christian life. This will be more pleasing to God and neighbours. Every church should encourage prayers, fasting and alms giving but discourage wrong use of God’s name in the form of false prophesy. The Church should take utmost care of its members. And one such care could be to stop those false prophets before they bring doom upon Nagas. By this we allow simple Christians to live in peace with God and one another. This could be the best gift we could offer to God and His Church here on earth. With true Prayers.

ctor Kunal Kapoor gave a powerful performance on "something that nobody addresses" - forced women trafficking, and urged people to contribute towards the cause. "I feel very strongly about this cause, and have recorded a video with UnErase Poetry. Please watch, share, support," the cofounder of Ketto, an online crowdfunding platform and website in India for fundraising for social, char-

ity, movies, music, personal and creative causes, tweeted on Friday. In the over three-minute video, he is seen taking charge of the microphone and narrating stories of a 16-year-old girl who went missing and a bride. He spoke in English and Hindi about the road where "love is sold". While talking about "the road", he urged people to slow down their car, take a moment and smile at those women in "shiny saris and make-up so wild" to show that you care. The video ends with statistics revealing that every three minutes an Indian girl is trafficked into sexual slavery, and only one per cent of these girls are ever rescued. He has already received support from celebs like Hrithik Roshan, who got "teared up", Shruti Seth and Dia Mirza. Source: IANS

CLEVELAND, JuNE 10 (AP): Golden State’s perfect postseason is over. Cleveland’s coming back again. Just like last year, the NBA Finals are at 3-1 after four games. LeBron James recorded a triple-double, Kyrie Irving scored 40 points and the Cavs broke scoring records while outperforming the NBA’s most electrifying offense in a testy Game 4 filled with technical fouls on Friday night, beating the Warriors 137-116 and snapping their 15-game playoff winning streak. “We have championship DNA,” said James, who broke Magic Johnson’s record with his ninth tripledouble in the Finals. “We showed that tonight. We just kept our composure. We shared the ball, we moved the ball and defensively we were physical. It’s one game.” But it’s the one they had to have, and a series that wasn’t living up to its hype and seemed headed for a quick conclusion is California bound for Game 5 on Monday night. The Cavs scored a Finals record 86 points in the first half and then held on during a wild third and fourth quarter that included technical fouls, James jawing with fellow superstar Kevin Durant and Cleveland’s crowd roaring like a jet engine. No team has ever come back from a 3-0 deficit in the NBA playoffs. But until the Cavs did it last year, no team had ever rallied from a 3-1 deficit to win the Finals. Cleveland took Game 3 at home, lost Game 4 and then won the final three — Game 7 in Oakland — to capture the city’s first sports championship since 1964. As the final seconds ticked off, Cleveland fans chanted “Cavs in 7.” “Believeland is not going to give up,” Cavs coach Tyronn Lue said, “and we’re going to keep fighting. We’re going to keep scrapping.” The Warriors had swept their first three series and were 48 minutes away from a party they’ve been planning for a year. But it’s

on hold and Golden State fans are holding their breath. Coach Steve Kerr said his players aren’t worried about the past. “I don’t think there was any concern or thoughts about history,” Kerr said. “I think it was we played a desperate team on their home floor, a great team, with great players, and they came out and handed it to us. Simple as that.” Durant, still one win from the coveted championship he left Oklahoma City to get, scored 35 but got little help from Stephen Curry, who scored 14 on 4-of-13 shooting. James finished with 31 points, 10 rebounds, 11 assists and on one trip threw the ball off the backboard to himself for a dunk.

Kevin Love made six 3-pointers and added 23 points for Cleveland, which made 24 3s, another Finals mark. If not for Cleveland’s Kyle Korver missing a 3-pointer in the final minute of Game 3, the series would be 2-2. In any event, the Cavs are still breathing and it’s now the Warriors who may be feeling the pressure after blowing a 3-1 lead last June. The third quarter featured a confusing sequence and a scramble on the floor that resulted in two technical, a friend of James being escorted from the arena and back and forth flurries worthy of a heavyweight boxing match. At one point, it was announced that Golden State’s Draymond

Green had been given his second technical foul and security came onto the floor to usher the volatile forward to the locker room. However, a technical assessed to him in the first half was actually called on Warriors coach Steve Kerr, leading to the confusion. Later, Warriors center Zaza Pachulia was involved in a pileup of players in the foul lane and he delivered two swipes to Iman Shumpert’s groin area as the referees tried to get control. Pachulia could have been tossed, but was only given a technical as was Shumpert. As this was being sorted out, Todd Leebow, a friend of James who was sitting with the three-time champion’s business partners, got involved in an argument with Golden State’s bench and was asked to leave. The Cavs were determined not to let the Warriors celebrate on their floor for the second time in three years, and it was Cleveland, not Golden State, which busted Finals scoring records in the first half. Cleveland scored 49 in the first quarter and 86 during a dizzying opening 24 minutes that left players and fans gasping for air. And beyond their firepower, the Cavs did it on defense, holding the up-and-down Warriors without a single fast-break point. With their crowd hanging on every dribble, pass and shot, the Cavaliers came out flying. Cleveland built an early 16-point lead and for the first extended time the series the defending champions looked and played like the superior team at both ends. Golden State clawed within seven, but then the Warriors began fouling and Kerr got nailed with his technical — one of seven in the game. Fueled by the outburst, the Cavs went on a 12-2 run capped by a 3-pointer from Love and dunk by 36-year-old Richard Jefferson, who earlier in the day said he and his teammates would approach the 3-0 deficit like a marathon, “one step at a time.” They’ve taken the first.

Ronaldo fires Portugal, France complicates path to Russia PAris, JuNE 10 (AFP): France complicated their task of ensuring automatic qualification to next year's World Cup in Russia after falling to a dramatic 2-1 defeat in Sweden on Saturday. Sweden snatched victory with an Ola Toivonen goal from the half-way line in extra time after a poor clearance from France goalkeeper Hugo Lloris. The freak goal sent the massed ranks of yellow clad fans in Stockholm into a wild frenzy, but more importantly with four games to go it sent Sweden top of Group A, level on 13 points with France. Only the winners of each group are guaranteed a place at next year's finals in Russia, with the eight best second- placed sides competing in the play-offs. The French will now play a crucial tie on August 31 against the Netherlands, who remain in the running after thrashing Luxembourg 5-0, while Cristiano Ronaldo led Portugal's 3-0 triumph in Latvia. France had pulled ahead through Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud after 37 minutes, but the Scandinavians levelled before the break thanks to Jimmy Durmaz (43). And after more than

three minutes of regular time Toivonen took advantage of a poor clearance from France captain Lloris with a soaring shot into the back of an empty net. "It was a catastrophic scenario," said coach Didier Deschamps, a World Cup winner in 1998 as a player with France. "I'm not going to heap blame on Hugo, he has often been decisive for us, but it cost us." The coach added that "the draw was not the ideal result but would have been a good point, which would have allowed us to keep

Sweden behind". For Deschamps's side it was the first defeat in qualifying and they next face a tough test against the Netherlands in Paris. Veterans Arjen Robben (21) and Wesley Sneijder (34) laid the groundwork for a Dutch victory in coach Dick Advocaat's first game in charge. In the second half Georginio Wijnaldum (62) and Quincy Promes (70) scored with Vincent Janssen, adding a penalty six minutes from time. "We have the means to cause a surprise in Paris,

the group has found a positive dynamic, we will go there to win against the Bleus," said a defiant Robben. Advocaat, who started his third stint as Oranje coach this week, was also confident. "Of course we are capable of winning in France, the players will be ready, I have a good feeling," he said. - Ronaldo show In Group B, Switzerland remain top after beating the Faroe Islands 2-0, thanks to their stars Granit Shaka (36) and Xerdan

Shaqiri (59), and are three points ahead of Portugal, the reigning European champions, who beat Latvia thanks to another Ronaldo goal scoring display. In keeping with his great season finale, the Real Madrid star was decisive with two goals (41 and 63) and an assist for Andr Silva to score the third (67). Ronaldo has scored 18 goals in his last eleven matches and after guiding Real Madrid to the LigaChampions League double will try to extend his trophy collection with the Confederations Cup from June 17 to July 2. The surprise result of the group was the defeat of Hungary against modest Andorra (1-0), leaving the Central European side virtually outside the World Cup. Switzerland and Portugal will play the first place of the group, which qualifies directly for Russia-2018, and the second will have settle for a playoff. In group H, Belgium took a big step towards qualifying by beating Estonia 2-0 with goals from Dries Mertens (31) and Nacer Chadli (86). Bosnia and Greece, the two teams pursuing Belgium, played out a goalless draw.
