Aree, what is this? After calling them corrupt, blood suckers, thieves, it’s not fair to invite them as chief guests.!

Why do people develop high blood pressure? MOsCOw, MARCH 10 (IANs): Early life changes in brain activity and blood flow may be the reason why people tend to develop abnormally high blood pressure, or hypertension, researchers said. High blood pressure is a condition in which the force of the blood against the artery walls is too high. It is also often called the silent killer because it typically has no symptoms until after it has done significant damage to the heart and the arteries. In 90-95 per cent of people, high blood pressure has no identifiable cause, yet it is a risk factor for diseases of the brain, kidneys, heart, eyes, and other parts of the body, said a group of researchers at the Institute of Cytology and Genetics in Russia. For the study, published in Experimental Physiology, the team investigated physiological changes in a rat model called ISIAH, short for inherited stress-induced arterial hypertension. These rats develop high blood pressure at four to six weeks of age, and this is sustained throughout their lifetime. The researchers compared the high blood pressure rats to a control group with normal blood pressure. As the mice in high blood pressure group grew older, changes in rates of blood flow in certain arteries were observed. In addition, changes were found in the brain activity, specifically a decrease in the prefrontal cortex -- the brain region associated with cognition, decision-making and working memory -- as well as an increase in the hypothalamus -- an area of the brain that controls mood and appetite. “The study of early physiological changes may help clarify the cause of high blood pressure. Understanding this could help us prevent the disease early on,” said led author Alisa Seryapina from the Institute of Cytology and Genetics.

NE in grip of BJP wave, says Ram Madhav AgARtAlA, MARCH 10 (IANs): The entire northeastern region, like other parts of the country, is in the grip of a massive BJP wave, the party’s National General Secretary Ram Madhav said here on Friday, adding the BJP will form the government in Manipur on Saturday and in Tripura next year. “Like all parts of India, a BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) wave has gripped the entire northeastern region. People want BJP government everywhere for good governance,” Ram Madhav said while addressing a mammoth gathering here in Leftruled Tripura. He said: “BJP governments have been installed in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, the party is a part of the Nagaland government and it would wrest power in Manipur on Saturday, after the counting of votes. The BJP will also come to power in Tripura next year after voting out the Left parties.” He claimed that the BJP would come to power in Tripura in the 2018 assembly elections as the CPI-M (Communist Party of India-Marxist)led Left Front government had failed in every sphere and other opposition parties had been unsuccessful in dislodging the Left parties from power. “We would field candidates in all the 60 assembly constituencies to

fight against the Left parties. Once a BJP government comes to power in Tripura, unemployment in the state will make way for industrialisation,” the BJP leader added. “During the 24-year rule of Left parties, unemployment and poverty has increased. No industrial activity has taken place here despite Tripura being a power-surplus state. The Left government misused the central funds and made only the party prosperous,” said Ram Madhav, who is the party’s in-charge of northeastern states and Jammu and Kashmir. BJP leaders earlier announced that Friday’s rally was being organised in protest against the murder of the party’s village committee member Chanmohan Tripura last year and to demand a CBI probe into the killing, but all the speakers dwelt upon the party’s prospects to come to power in Tripura. Friday’s gathering galvanised the local BJP leaders, who claimed that such an enormous crowd had never gathered in the party’s rallies in Tripura. Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, echoing other BJP leaders, claimed that the party would come to power in Tripura in next year’s assembly elections. “BJP is the only party that can make

Tripura a developed state. In the name of chit funds, thousands of crores of rupees of people have been looted, while the state government remained a mute spectator,” Sonowal said. The Assam Chief Minister said that all the northeastern states must go together and that his state would always remain with Tripura for the latter’s all-round success and development. “Over eight lakh people are unemployed in Tripura and a large number of people remain poor. If BJP comes to power in Tripura, it will give right status to all people,” he added. BJP’s Tripura observer Sunil Deodhar alleged that the Left government in Tripura had turned the state into a corrupt one, making crime and killing a part of life due to mis-governance. “Over a hundred BJP functionaries were killed in Kerala and many party men murdered in Tripura. Over 11 crore BJP members across the country are protesting these killings in both Left-ruled states,” Deodhar said. State BJP President Biplab Kumar Deb said that the CPI-M had got scared following the growth of the BJP in Tripura, and that is why their cadres were killing BJP members. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar was instigating criminals and nepotism in the state, he alleged.

The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has asked the Nagaland Government to take up steps to absorb all the Hindi Teachers appointed through Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) in the State. Nagaland has a total of 1379 CSS Hindi Teachers. Interacting with a section of media persons here, Minister for School Education and SCERT, Yitachu revealed that despite the Union MHRD directive, the Nagaland government is presently not in a position to do so and therefore he would be leaving for Delhi by next week before the ensuing state budget session and pursue for continuation of the scheme in the State. “The term of CSS Hindi Teachers will end on March 31 but we will be seeking for extension of CSS Hindi Teachers considering the financial crunch faced by no. The Kohima Unit picketed the SDEOs and DEOs in Tseminyu, Chiephobozou and Kohima. The third phase of agitation will be held on March 15 where the teachers will picket the Directorate of School Education at 9:00 am. According to the Convenor CSS Hindi Teacher,

the State,” he said, adding that taking the CSS Hindi Teachers as state government employees is not a problem, but payment of salary will be the main problem. Nonetheless, he asserted that subsequent steps will be taken to include CSS Hindi Teachers as regular government employees in the State. On the delay in the release of nine months worth salary for CSS Hindi Teachers in the State, the Minister said that there has been short release of fund and the Union MHRD has been pursuing the matter with the Union Finance Ministry by seeking additional requirements. The Minister assured that the department and the government are trying their best for early release of the pending salaries. He therefore maintained that even if ANHTU continues with their democratic agitation, they should also try to understand the position of the department. Further, he asked the protestors not to resort to any form of violence and extend cooperation.

Mhonthung Lotha, the teachers decided to hold the silent protest to show resentment against the department for failure to release the pending salary despite several appeals. The Convenor also demanded that department should release the 9 months worth of salary

along with arrear at the earliest and added that salary should be paid on monthly basis, while the teachers should be absorbed by the School Education Department since they will be completing five (5) years of continuous service by March 31, 2017.

GBs should play the role of peacemakers, says NGBF DIMAPUR, MARCH 10 (MExN): The Nagaland GBs Federation (NGBF) in its meeting deliberating on the roles and responsibilities of the GBs, stated that the GBs should play the role of “peacemakers and not be part with promoters of violence.” This was stated during an executive meeting of the NGBF in Dimapur on March 8. A press note from the NGBF informed that the meeting was attended by district GBs associations from all districts, and presided over by the NGBF President. Referring to the recent unfortunate events in the state with relation to the ULB poll issue, the NGBF stated that it has “from the very beginning opposed the 33% women’s reservation and accordingly we have submitted memorandums to the government followed by several appeals published in print media.” “As an elderly organization we have trusted our government, tribal Hohos, and NGOs, spiritual groups, scholars and intellectual leaders for some meaningful outcome and we still stand on our commitment,” it stated. It however stated that the women’s reservation turning into “such an unimaginable situation that would lead to the death of our precious youth’s lives was not expected.” In an effort to “do something for peace and harmony,” the NGBF informed that it had convened an executive meeting on February 15, “with the only intention to bring peace in our Land.”

“But our innocent and sincere effort was abruptly interrupted by Joint Co-ordination committee (JCC) Summon Letter and we humbly abided by their command and so the GBs of Nagaland (the First institution that existed before the British regime) capitulated before JCC and thereafter, the NGBF was only allowed at the meeting to munch through what they (JCC) query about the GBs of Nagaland… (I)When Nagaland GBs Federation was formed (II) who told you GBs are the custodians of the customary laws? Never do repeat this word in Nagaland or face dire consequences. (III) What powers do GBs have? GBs have no powers and we don’t recognize GBs. (IV) In our tribe, GBs are never included in Important decision making nor account for. (V) Within 24 hrs from now, Nagaland GBs Federation should press release Chief Minister’s resignation,” it claimed. The NGBF expressed pain and surprise at the “dictatorial and condemnation statement of the JCC leaders,” and stated that “such a juvenile utterance about Naga’s historical Identity by the Naga leaders was lamented and condemned by the members present at the meeting.” It meanwhile further appealed to the Naga women groups to “withdraw their cases from the Court and settle the differences within a family.” The NGBF also urged to the Nagaland State Government to “approach any issue in a more sensible and committed manner in future.”

Armed conflicts displace nagaland Vision 2030 stresses almost 140,000 in Myanmar on development of social security

UNItED NAtIONs, MARCH 10 (IANs): Close to 140,000 people have been displaced in Myanmar since September owing to armed conflicts in several western and northeastern parts of the country, the UN said on Friday. Most of the displaced are members of the Rohingya Muslim minority in Rakhine state, who have been affected by the campaign of reprisals launched by the military following the armed assault against three border police checkposts on October 9, Efe news reported. According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), 74,000 of the displaced persons are in refugee camps in Bangladesh while another 20,000 have been internally displaced within Rakhine. Another 36,000 have had to leave their homes in the states of Shan and Kachin due to fresh clashes between the Myanmar army and a coalition of ethnic guerrilla groups in northeastern Myanmar. Around 20,000 people have crossed the border into Chinese territory to flee the conflict, authorities in Beijing had said on Thursday. These figures raise the total number of

displaced people throughout the country as a result of armed conflicts and sectarian violence to 260,000, according to the latest estimate by OCHA. The organisation believes that some 60,000 internally displaced persons are in areas where humanitarian aid cannot reach, including Rakhine, despite authorities declaring the end of the security operation on February 15. According to OCHA, several refugees have returned to their homes and Myanmar authorities have allowed a gradual resumption of humanitarian activities. Several organisations have reported that all sorts of atrocities were committed by the military during the campaign, including murder, rape and burning houses. Clashes in Shan and Kachin, near the Chinese border, have killed around 150 people, including rebels, soldiers and civilians, between November and December. Seven armed groups have rejected the peace plan proposed by the Myanmar government, led by Nobel peace laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, while the Myanmar army, which has broad powers under the constitution and veto power in Parliament, continues its offensive.

Elderly population in Nagaland projected to reach 2.23 lakhs by 2030 Our Correspondent Kohima | March 10

Presently the elderly population in Nagaland stands at 1, 39, 494 as per 2011 census, or roughly around 7 percent of the total population. Assuming that this proportion remains constant over the next 15 years, the number of old age people will increase to approximately 2.23 lakhs by 2030. This was stated in the Nagaland Vision 2030 document. The ageing population in the state will most likely affect the trajectory of

With an increase in the elderly population of the state, the Nagaland Vision Document 2030 focuses on social security as one key area to be addressed.

socio-economic development in Nagaland. While it is a matter of relief that the people may live longer, this may increase expenditure on social services to mitigate the problem of age.

Pension or social security benefits are some matters that require to be addressed, the vision document stated adding that as the state prepares for a more secure 2030, and as new opportunities and

jobs are created, especially in the unorganized sector, focus should also be to develop occupation based social security programmes for workers with individual contribution and employee contribution so as to lessen the burden of the benefit systems. Establishing health insurances, which are occupation and gender specific will also ensure less burden for individuals as well as the state for old age related health care issues, it stated. “The state must also prepare infrastructure to meet the aged related issues, for instance- establishing district wise and community owned old aged homes to address in dependency ratios, strengthening of PHCs in rural areas to address aged related health issues,” it added.
