the sBi Kiphire which has been functioning without a branch manager for 3 months.
Interacting with this correspondent, officials of SBI disclosed that even facilities like conveyance, miscellaneous bills and annual increments of some of the staff are pending. On the facilities that the Kiphire branch is lacking, the SBI officials said the district branch should
have advance ATM facility; cash deposit machine and self-updating passbook. Further, the only ATM machine that the district has is always malfunctioning and closed most of the time. People in the know how pointed out that the branch needs sufficient experienced bank employees so
that the facilities available for businesspersons, students, service personnel and citizens is made available. Due to lack of sufficient experienced staff, customers are not able to avail the benefit of various welfare schemes, designed to uplift the economy of the rural people. The Joint Area Students’ Union (JASU) of Kiphire highlighted the banking issue only recently; however, the concerned authorities are yet to address the grievances of the citizens, it is also learnt. On top of it all, there is apprehension that the 38 year old building, which houses the SBI, is on the verge of collapse. However, with no branch manager to take the matter forward, the bank continues to do business in the old shaky building.
hopes to win a whopping 212 seats. Tamil Nadu produced a spectacular result. The AIADMK was set to grab 126 of the 234 seats, leaving the DMK-Congress combine with 102 seats, but far more than what it won in 2011. Almost all other parties were wiped out. An elated Jayalalithaa said: “There are not enough
words in dictionary to adequately express my feelings of gratitude to the people of Tamil Nadu.” Most exit polls had predicted that the AIADMK would be unseated. There were noisy celebrations outside Jayalalithaa’s residence in Chennai. Holding her portraits, supporters danced to music and burst firecrackers. But Chennai, battered by floods in December, dumped the AIADMK. Its candidates trailed in 12 of the 16 constituencies. Jayalalithaa, however, was set to win from Radhakrishnan Nagar in the city. In a much-awaited victory, the BJP was poised to take power in Assam, with its candidates and allies leading in 85 of the 126 seats. The stunning performance buried the Congress, which is set to win only 24 seats. The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), which had hoped to play the kingmaker if there was a hung verdict, led in 13 constituencies. A beaming Sarbananda Sonowal, who will be As-
sam’s chief minister, said that sealing the winding India-Bangladesh border to end infiltration would be his government’s major challenge. Keeping alive Kerala’s tradition of ousting the government in every election, the Congress-led UDF suffered a stunning rout, which its leader and Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said he had never expected. The Left Democratic Front (LDF) was leading in 91 of the 140 seats and the UDF in 47. “This is a vote against the corrupt and those who failed to protect the dignity of women,” said CPI-M leader and former chief minister V.S. Achuthanandan. An independent was also on the winning track. An apparently shattered Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi said the party will work “harder” to gain the trust of the people. “We will work harder till we win the confidence and trust of the people,” he tweeted after the Congress was voted out in Assam and Kerala.
NPRAAF serves 30-day ultimatum to F&CS dept
DiMaPUR, May 19 (MexN): The Nagaland Public Rights Awareness Forum (NPRAAF) has given a 30-day ultimatum to the Department of Food & Civil Supplies to cancel 76 backdoor appointments of Grade III employees and declare it vacant for open competition. The NPRAAF in a press statement through its president, Wedieu Kronu reminded that it had on two occasions laid in public domain through the local dailies about the irregularities and anomalous appointments in the department from
January 2003 till March 2016. However, in the midst of the demand, the department showed utter disregard to the issue by appointing three more LDAs on March 10, 2016 taking the tally from 73 to 76, it pointed out while demanding cancellation of the appointments within 30 days starting from May 19, 2016. The Forum said in the event of failure to meet their demands, it would undertake phase wise democratic protests and agitations to bring the issue of all irregular and anomalous appointments in the department to a logical conclusion.
