With painful blisters on feet, tired faces and an undying spirit - the Against Corruption And Unabated Taxation (ACAUT) Nagaland led volunteers who began a challenging march against corruption from Dimapur on Friday reached the State capital Kohima on Saturday afternoon. Making an early start from Piphema where they had halted on Friday, the team was received by Zubza Village Council members and Western Angami organizations with food provisions at Sechu (Zubza). In a fruitful meeting, Zubza Village Council and Western Angami organizations who incidentally were assembled for a consultative meeting with the NSCN (IM) verbally endorsed the objectives of ACAUT in its fight against corruption. A few Kilometers before Kohima, the team were again greeted with refreshment by members of Kohima Stone Crushers Owners Union. “The enthusiasm, the moral obligation, and the cause kept us pushing. It was painful but worth-

while,” said Simon Kelio, Vice Principal, Sakus Mission College and the manager of the ACAUT’s walk against corruption right after the ACAUT anti-corruption group reached Kohima War Cemetery. Kelio has been teaching Political Science for the last 18 years and focusing on the career of students. “I realize that if the students do not change the system, their future will be bleak,” the college vice principal who wish to see his children grow up to live in a just society said. According to Joel Nillo Kath, one of ACAUT’s team leaders, the 74 kilometer walk from Dimapur to Kohima has a profound historical connotation. “This walk has been inspired by Naga leaders like A.Z Phizo who walked in all the Naga areas and “that’s how the Naga Movement for independence was launched. It is as profound as that,” he expressed. Further positing on the philosophy of walk, Kath noted that without any pain there is no gain. He mentioned how Naga freedom fighters walked all the way to China. “They inspired a whole generation of Nagas to rise and fight against the Government of India. This is not the first walk and I’m

ing 224 passengers and crew crashed in Egypt’s Sinai peninsula on Saturday after losing radar contact and plummeting from its cruising altitude, killing all aboard. The Airbus A321, operated by Russian airline Kogalymavia under the brand name Metrojet, was flying from the Sinai Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh to St Petersburg in Russia when it went down in a desolate mountainous area of central Sinai soon after daybreak, the aviation ministry said. A north Sinai security source said initial examination showed the crash was due to a technical fault, but gave no detail. The plane, he said, had landed in a “vertical fashion”, explaining the scale of devastation and burning. The Russian Embassy in Cairo said it had been told by Egyptian officials the pilot had been trying to make an emergency landing at El-Arish. “I now see a tragic scene,” an Egyptian security officer at the site told Reuters by telephone. “A lot of dead on the ground and many who died whilst strapped to their seats. “The plane split into two, a small part on the tail end that burned and a larger part that crashed into a rock. We have extracted at least 100 bodies and the rest are still inside,” the officer, who requested ano-

CAIRO, OCtObeR 31 (ReuteRS): A militant group affiliated to Islamic State in Egypt claimed responsibility for the downing of a Russian passenger plane that crashed in Egypt’s Sinai peninsula on Saturday, the group said in a statement circulated by supporters on Twitter. Egyptian security sources earlier on Saturday said early investigations suggested the plane crashed due to a technical fault. The claim of responsibility was also carried by the Aamaq website which acts as a semi official news agency for Islamic State. “The fighters of the Islamic State were able to down a Russian plane over Sinai province that was carrying over 220 Russian crusaders. They were all killed, thanks be to God,” the statement circulated on Twitter said.

nymity, said. Sinai is the scene of an insurgency by militants close to Islamic State, who have killed hundreds of Egyptian soldiers and police and have also attacked Western targets in recent months. Russia, an ally of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, launched air raids against opposition groups in Syria including Islamic State on Sept. 30. Security sources said there was no indication the Airbus had been shot down or blown up. Egyptian Prime Minister Sherif Ismail was heading to the crash site in the Hassana area 35 km (22 miles) south of the Sinai Mediterranean coastal city of Al Arish with several cabinet ministers on a private jet, the tourism ministry said. Russian television showed film of anxious relatives and friends waiting for information at St. Petersburg’s Pulkovo airport. A middle-aged woman was shown weeping and cry-

ing out. Russian President Vladimir Putin declared a day of national mourning for Sunday. The passengers included 214 Russians and three Ukrainians. Speaking at a news briefing in the central Asia republic of Kyrgyzstan, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry described the crash as a tremendous tragedy and loss. The A321 is a mediumhaul jet in service since 1994, with over 1,100 in operation worldwide and a good safety record. It is a highly automated aircraft relying on computers to help pilots stay within safe flying limits. Airbus said the A321 was built in 1997 and had been operated by Metrojet since 2012. It had flown 56,000 hours in nearly 21,000 flights. Emergency services and aviation specialists searched the wreckage for any clues to the crash. One of two flight recorders was quickly found, but wreckage was scattered over a wide area.

sure this will not be the last walk,” added Kath. “I feel ACAUT is one organization taking up issues like no other organizations. They have the backbone to do it. I don’t think a time like this will come again, so we need to support it,” said one of the volunteers. “Youth being the strongest force in society, we need to be an example to stop corruption. Change has to begin from us,” according to Senti Kichu, one of the girl volunteer. Kohima Chambers of Commerce & Industries (KCCI) president, Jabou Sekhose, who gave a short speech at the War Cemetery lamented that the cancer of corruption in Nagaland has reached an all time high leaving behind tangled webs of lies and cover ups. In order to stand against corruption, Sekhose noted that citizens need to be re-ignited and influence the decision makers’ response to corruption, sharpen mechanisms and approaches to share and apply knowledge about creating and sustaining institutions with greater integrity. Though the State Government continue to remain silent on the numerous expose made by ACAUT of rampant backdoor appointments in the Nagaland government departments, Chief Minister TR Zeliang on Saturday lauded the ACAUT Nagaland team and volunteers for taking up such a “noble mission” Interacting with the volunteers outside the New Secretariat, Zeliang congratulated them for sensitizing the people towards the need to have a corruption-free society. Terming it as a very noble mission, Zeliang maintained that such initiative needs the support of all sections of the society. “The Government alone cannot erase or uproot corruption in the society without the cooperation of the people. And I am happy that you have made a start,” he stated. Zeliang also asserted that his government is in favour of setting up a LokAyukta which, he added is in the process of being set up. With regard to the HPC findings which was submitted to the State government, the chief minister said the government is studying the contents and looking for how best to go about in implementing the Committee’s suggestions. “Since the document is a massive it is taking some time. But in due course of time, I assure you the needful will be done,” Zeliang told the volunteers and leaders of ACAUT.

ENSF warns of school shutdown in Eastern Nagaland Gives 6 days ultimatum to Nagaland State government to appoint and post the 663 teachers as assured in 2011

DIMAPuR, OCtObeR 31 (MexN): Agitated over the failure of the State government to fulfill its promise of appointing and posting 663 teachers in government schools under its jurisdiction, the Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) has warned on Saturday that it will shut down all the schools in Eastern Nagaland. A press statement received here from the ENSF said the Department of School Education had assured to appoint 161 math and science teachers, 200 primary teachers and 302 RMSA teachers in schools of Eastern Nagaland. This assurance, the federation claimed, was agreed upon in letter and in principle by the State government in Niathu Resort, Dimapur at a meeting in 2011. However, even after the lapse of four academic years, the teachers were yet to be given appointment orders and posted in the schools which, the federation considered was “injustice

and discrimination meted out to the students of Eastern Nagaland.” This only proves that the concern department and the State government are not serious about the welfare of the students of Eastern Nagaland, the federation said while alleging that the department has been trying to use the policy of delay tactics which has gone beyond zenith. The federation went on to state that it’s patience has run out and it can no longer wait for another academic year of the students to be compromised. In this connection, the federation has given an ultimatum of 6 days w.e.f November 1, 2015 for the appointment and posting of the 161 math and science teachers, 200 primary teachers and 302 RMSA teachers as assured by the State government through Commissioner and Secretary, School Education. In the event of failure of the State government to keep their end of the bargain, the federation said it would be compelled to shut down all the schools in Eastern Nagaland which may even affect the exams of students for which the department of school education will be solely held responsible. The federation also made clear that it will not entertain any meeting with any authority for this issue until the teachers are posted in the schools.
