The number of Dengue cases has risen to 116. This was out of 657 suspected blood samples tested at the Sentinel Surveillance Site Lab, District Hospital, Dimapur since the beginning of October till November 22. It also includes two positive cases from Mokokchung, which originated from Dimapur. Dr Moa Jamir, Dimapur District Programme Officer, NVBDCP, informed on November 25 that 10 new positive cases were detected on November 22 out of 83 suspected blood samples tested. As new cases continue to be detected, he however maintained that Dengue cases are seeing a declining trend. The decline in incidence on the other hand has been attributed more to natural factors than professional intervention. The unexpected chilly weather condition that Dimapur experienced as November entered the second week likely played a vital role in controlling Dengue-carrying mosquitoes. Medical professionals in Dimapur quoting entomological research stated that mosquito outbreak decline during the winter.
tion, they become the driving force behind social and economic progress. They not only lift up themselves but their families, communities and their nation as well,” affirmed Sakhrie. Lauding the program of NSSWB and SRCW on the launching of Mission Effloresce and 1st Generation Women Entrepreneurs, Kiyaneilie Peseyie asserted that the initiation goes beyond creating awareness on gender based violence and proving referral services to women affected by violence, but it elevates
the economic independence of women to achieve greater heights of success. Peseyie also called upon the governments, international organizations and NGOs to raise public awareness and to galvanize action to end violence against women and girls around the world. Speaking on the government’s support towards women, Bendang Aier, from National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) said it has been focusing on “dependability not dependency, development needs women” as its gender planning process with the objective of bringing gender into development, and make gender a partner in development. Providing a brief introduction of OSC scheme, which is under the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Kohima DC Rovilato Mor mentioned that the services provided under the scheme are emergency response and rescue services, medical assistance, legal assistance, psychosocial support, shelter and video conferencing facility. For the success of the scheme, the need for coordination among stakeholders, agencies and service providers, monitoring functions on monthly basis, review and report on progress were highlighted.
activities, education, business etc,” the press statement read. The Governor further went on to state that the need of the hour is to have separate police stations, bank branches and many other public oriented institutions wherein “only ladies are to handle the situation.” Acharya congratulated the mothers’ organization for raising their voice against Naga men for their double speak on women reservation, which “have only been contradicting the Naga customary law of gender equity and mutilating the age old custom of equality of sexes.” The Governor also congratulated the State Government for its strong determination to do justice as per the amended constitutional provision to
empower the women in the political decision making body to strengthen the democracy. “Democracy assures equal rights to all the people regardless of sex, creed, caste and financial status,” he said. On the demonetization issue, the Governor appreciated the Prime Minister and assured that things will be normalised shortly. “The present situation of shortage of currency is purely temporary and this is a bold step towards elimination of corruption which has been affected our country. It is our duty to uphold and strengthen all the steps to eradicate corruption and nip it in the bud of all nefarious activities of accumulating wealth and public money for the welfare of the common people, he stated.
rs 3.5 cr case: An estimated Court quashes govt 10 cr funnelled into nagaland resolution on SVC Morung Express News Dimapur | November 25
An estimated Rs 10 crore in demonetised currency is suspected to have been funnelled into Nagaland since the demonetisation declaration was made by the Prime Minister on November 8. Official sources speaking on condition of anonymity disclosed that the cash stash was transported via air on two occasions. Contrary to reports in various media outlets citing that as many as 4 chartered planes had landed in Dimapur during the period, the sources quoting flight schedule stated that two chartered planes arrived at the Dimapur airport post-November 8. As per the sources, the first such plane landed on November 13 to depart the next day on November 14. An approximate Rs 5-6 crore was suspected to have been transported on the date, which was dispersed to various accounts. Income Tax investigators were reported to have tracked down the money and its points of origin, the sources said, and added that it is also connected to Naga businessman, Anato Zhimomi. The stash of Rs 3.5 crore was transported on the
second trip on November 22, which was subsequently recovered by the IT in Dimapur on November 24. While it was initially reported that an account belonging to Zhimomi was “frozen”, it has now emerged that another account was also frozen with the source stating the 2 accounts put together totalled over Rs 4 crore. As regards Amarjeet Kumar Singh, he was suspected to have been more of a “courier” than the actual owner of the money. It is suspected that cash belonging to different individuals was pooled to be transported for conversion, the source stated. Singh along with Zhimomi, as per the source, were still being questioned by the IT in Delhi.

The court heard the PIL for two days on November 21 and 22. The court, in its order, “set aside and quashed” the Nagaland Government’s resolution dated June 8, 2016, which the NTC had stated “is found to be detrimental as there must be an authority acting as a deterrent to corrupt activities in the State in the interest of the general public.” The court further directed re-opening of all inquiry/ investigation which were affected by the terms of the resolution dated 8/6/2016. It may be noted that the NTC had urged upon the Government of Nagaland to restore the legal powers and jurisdiction of the State Vigilance Commission by revoking the “erroneous cabinet resolution without delay.” “However, the State Government remained insensitive to the demand tabled which compelled NTC to take the issue to the Hon’ble High Court for redress of public grievances,” a press note from the petitioners informed. The NTC expressed hope that with this directive, the State Government “will take steps to restore the State Vigilance Commission to its rightful position as before.”
