The Naga People’s Front (NPF) during its Central Executive Council (CEC) meeting held here today resolved to appeal to the central government not to impose “Good Governance Day” coinciding Christmas Day (25th December) “as the day is most revered by the Christian community.” The House unanimously resolved to support the Nagaland Legislative Assembly resolution, during the winter session held on November 22 to 24, revoking the restriction on Women Reservation Act being passed on September 22, 2012 by the NLA. The CEC also resolved to continue to extend its support to the ongoing peace process between the NSCN (IM) and the Government of India and reiterated the stand that “Integration is and must be an integral part of the dialogue.” The house fully endorsed the appeal made by Chief Minister TR Zeliang to the leadership of NSCN (K) in Myanmar recently to renew the ceasefire and enter the peace process dialogue to pursue peaceful and honorable settlement with both the Government of Myanmar and the Government of India. The party also felt it pertinent to urge the state government to take stringent step in protecting flora and fauna of the state.
we believe that giving this 33% reservation in municipalities will be one important step towards women empowerment.” “Let me appeal again to the party and party men to support it, and help in its smooth implementation through mass awareness campaign and mobilization of public opinion in its favour,” said Zeliang in his speech read out by advisor to CM Apong Pongener in his absence. The Chief Minister also stressed on the need to start preparing for the municipal election, which is likely to take place sometime in the first week of February 2017. Stating that Nagaland assembly election is also not too far away now, he said “As a consequence of our forming an opposition-less government our party will have to fight the next election with a slightly modified support base in many constituencies. Many of our party candidates although not being new comers, may be fighting the next election under “Cock” symbol for the first time.” In this, he said there is a need to start the process of some adjustments between old and new members at the assembly constituency and block levels. While the government is open to constructive criticism and positive suggestions, party men should also refrain from negative altitude, loose talks and backstabbing at all costs, he said.

Naga Hoho seeks GoI’s immediate intervention DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 29 (MExN): The Naga Hoho has knocked at the doors of the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh seeking immediate intervention in connection to the arrest of United Naga Council (UNC) president Gaidon Kamei and information & publicity secretary Sankhui Stephen by the Manipur Government on November 25, 2016. A memorandum to this was submitted to the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju in Delhi to be forwarded to the Union Minister of Home Affairs by the Naga Hoho on Tuesday in Delhi. In the memorandum, the Hoho said the UNC officials were arrested by Manipur police commandoes without provocation when they were proceeding from Leimakhong to Senapati for the UNC presidential meeting. The arrest was made on the allegation that the UNC had imposed economic blockage
Submits memorandum urging Union Home Minister to take steps for release of UNC officials in Naga inhabited areas from November 1, 2016, as a result of which normal life in Manipur has been severely hit. The Hoho asserted that the present economic blockade along the Imphal-Mao section of NH-2 was called to oppose the creation of e new District called ‘Sadar Hills District’ by carving our land from Naga inhabited areas particularly from Senapati district. The issue being purely political in nature involving the interest of the landowners, the Hoho pointed out that even in 1981, 1992, 1996 and 1998, the Manipur government made several attempts to create a new district by carving out land from Naga inhabited areas and give it to the Kukis. The Hoho stated that the
Naga people have made several request to the Chief Minister of Manipur to immediately release the two Naga leaders from police custody but instead, the Manipur government stated that it would initiate legal action against the UNC officials. It also pointed out that in 2011, the Manipur government made another attempt to create Sadar Hills as a new district in favour of the Kukis without consulting the stakeholders (Nagas). With the issue becoming very contentious, the Government of India intervened and in the process gave a written assurance to the Nagas that the Nagas of Manipur would be consulted before taking any final decision by the Manipur government. The Hoho said the reasons
behind the present economic blockade imposed by the UNC was due to the Manipur government’s unilateral decision to declare Sadar Hills as a fullfledged district without prior consultation from the stakeholders, which is contrary to the assurances given by the GoI on November 24, 2011. It stated that with the arrest of the Naga leader, the people have called for a total shutdown in all the Naga inhabited districts for 24 hours while on the other hand, the Manipur government was preparing on a war footing manner to arrest more Naga leaders and confront the strike supporter. In view of the above circumstances, the Hoho has urged the GoI to immediately take appropriate steps to talk with the Manipur government for early and unconditional release of the two UNC officials and to restore peace and harmony between the Nagas and the present Manipur government.
periods during the year. The street value of the destroyed contrabands was estimated at over Rs 1 crore. As per the department, the three units registered nearly a thousand cases, while booking as many offenders in connection to the
cases and a total of Rs 29, 00,000 was realised as monetary penalty from the offenders. Parliamentary Secretary, Nganlang Phom, in his address held that the Excise department as an enforcement agency is expected to continue its commitment towards upholding the NLTP Act and controlling the menace of illicit drugs. While stating that mass involvement is required, he added that the Excise personnel are doing a commendable job despite all the shortcomings in terms of manpower and logistics. Commissioner of Excise, Tarep Imchen urged the Parliamentary Secretary to take up the matter of procuring adequate enforcement weapons for the personnel, who are ill-equipped to conduct field operations.
