SENAPATI, OCTOBER 30 (MExN): The United Naga Council (UNC) has resolved to impose 10 days “Economic Blockade” along National Highways and ban construction of National and International projects including Trans Asian Railways from midnight of November 2 to 12 midnight. The ban is being called due to the passing of 3 “anti tribal” Bills and 2 Resolutions by the Manipur Legislative Assembly recently, and the consequent killing of 9 civilians including a minor on August 31 and September 1 by security forces. It further stated that the bandh is a protest against the government of India’s silence on the issue. Further, the UNC reaffirmed its previous resolution and banned the movement of 7 Naga MLAs of the Congress party in Naga territory with immediate effect till they resign from the membership of the Manipur Legislative Assembly. “ Tribes Hohos and Naga public are informed and directed not to give them any position and platform in Naga society including tribe, church, women, student, organisation/association, village level etc. Social sanction in any form will be imposed upon any one defying this directive,” informed a press note from the UNC.

column of volunteers in white-tees trudged with dogged determination, more people joined in from different junctions along the highway. “Changes cannot come overnight, and many of us here may not witness the change in our lifetime. But if this walk against corruption change even a single soul, then I will deemed it as successful,” an old timer who was among the volunteer said, setting the mood for the long walk ahead. Dimapur district administration provided constant security with the traffic and police personnel walking alongside the volunteers. Besides the amenities and words of encouragement to the volunteers, Chumukedima Village Council members joined in the walk till Medziphima. After a huge public meeting at Medziphima, the ACAUT led team of volunteers was then escorted by Medziphema Town Council members up to Pherima where lunch prepared by the villagers awaited. “My motivation for joining the walk is the understanding that a cure for corruption will be beneficial for all of us,
Heeding to the call of Against Corruption And Unabated Taxation (ACAUT), Nagaland, as nearly as 70 people including college students; working professionals and the elderly assembled in Dimapur early Friday morning to tackle a lengthy 74 kilometer uphill ascend to the State capital of Nagaland in a challenging ‘Walk against Corruption.’ As taunting and ingrained as the issue of corruption has become in Nagaland State, an air of optimism that change begins with one small step prevailed among the spirited group of people as the walk flagged off from Chumukedima. The main intention of the walk, according to ACAUT Nagaland is to create awareness on corruption and to commemorate the October 31, 2013 mass public rally held in Dimapur where ACAUT was mandated to tackle unabated taxation resulting in adoption of the slogan “One Government One Tax.” Under the autumn sun, as the ShIllONg, OCTOBER 30 (IANS): An earthquake of slight intensity jolted India’s north-eastern states and parts of Bangladesh in the early hours of Friday, an official said. Elika Chishi, a BA student from Kohima Mount Olive College, one of the four girls who were among the volunteers said. “It is sad that we inadvertently sustain this system by having a ‘backdoor’ mentality for any kind of work,” Chishi opined adding, change should start from within. Kethoseno Meyase, a government teacher considered the walk as a commitment towards justice for all and hopefully this walk will be a step towards positive change. Inspector Vithalietuo Kire, Officerin-Charge of Medziphema Police Station who also joined the walk till Pherima said even the Police was part of the society and therefore felt it his bounden duty to share a little of the responsibility. “While it is common to consider all police as corrupt, all the police are not, he said with a grimace on the face while adding, “We are also fed up with corruption and wholeheartedly support the initiative.” At 80 years, Neingusie Meyase an ex-GB of Medziphema, the oldest volunteer was as earnest as the youngest
amongst the group. “It is not just the problem of corruption, but the love for money that has completely made us blind and we are losing our identity in the process,” he lamented. On hindsight, the octogenarian pointed out that those who are corrupted today were once upon a time student leaders, who got transformed along the way. Explaining on the objective of the walk, Dr Khekugha Muru said the whole idea is to exhibit that ACAUT mean business and will not be taken for granted. He said the physical pain that the volunteers will undergo during the walk is exactly indicative of how the Naga society is suffering. Dr Khekugha also denied certain reports that public support for the movement was waning and asserted that there are numerous indicators that the public are behind ACAUT. “As a peoples’ movement with so much expectation we don’t have answers to everything or change things overnight but we are doing our best and expects the public to support us in the
process,” he stated. On a comprehensive note, Dr Asangba Tzudir commented during the night halt at Piphima that the excruciating pain from the day’s walk is nothing compared to the pain of corruption which is becoming astounding by the day. “When it comes to corruption, we all carry not only social but also a moral responsibility and it was with this responsibility that I undertook this walk. It is hoped that those who are part of the walk today will stick to their moral principle and shoulder the responsibility in fighting against corruption even in the days to come for a better Naga society,” he expressed. Come Saturday, ACUAT Nagaland will continue its second leg of the journey from Piphima to Kohima where they will be joined by supporters and volunteers to submit a petition to the Governor of Nagaland with a specific demand to constitute a strong Lokayukta with all direct power to call CBI enquiry to investigate any misdemeanor. first 20 to be selected throughout the country on a trial basis. “We have to go for reconstruction of the existing city since we cannot expect to widen the roads. We have to make the best with the possible means at our disposal and the cooperation of the city dwellers is a must,” he said. “To my mind, the concept of a Smart City is to have modern conveniences such as proper roads, parking spaces, drainages and proper waste disposal. We need to also have crime detection facilities and to this end, we are in the process of installing closed circuit TVs (CCTVs) on an experimental basis in Kohima and Dimapur. The DGP is on the job and it is being proposed that some 200 CCTVs to be installed in Kohima town. In this regard too, we
need the cooperation of the building owners to install the cameras at strategic locations,” the CM said. Meanwhile, on the AYO’s move to stop patch up repairs of roads in Kohima, the CM stated that “volunteers should have checked whether the BRO has sanction/ work orders to carry out the works.” “I understand the BRO has no sanctions or funds to carry out the works. But on the request of the State Government, BRO officials agreed to carry out the muchneeded fillings of the potholes in the city. If and when there is sanction/ work orders, there will be criteria to be fulfilled by the implementing agencies and then and only it can be verified if required workmanship is being carried out or not,” he said.
NSCN (R) and Shangyu Quit your chairs for Naga unity, Village resolve differences FGN to Nagaland state legislators MON, OCTOBER 30 imposed against the NSCN (MExN): The Konyak Union (KU) today informed that the misunderstanding between the NSCN (R) and Shangnyu village under Mon District has been “resolved amicably through the Konyak Union Table.” A press note from the KU informed that it had initiated a joint meeting with both the parties on October 24 at the KU Office, Mon HQ, and amicably resolved the matter. The meeting resolved that as per the Konyak Union Standing resolution No. 10, the NSCN (R) demand/fine which was imposed on Shangnyu village “shall not be paid as it was a self violation and betrayal by own cadres.” It agreed that Shangnyu village shall immediately withdraw the non-co-operation move which was
(R) and the “messages of peace being restored between the two parties shall be intimated to all those villages that the prior letters had intimated by them on the same purposes.” It was further resolved that the Konyak Union “shall not speak or involve over NSCN (R) designation camp and land issues, as it involves government approval.” “No such allegations and misconstruction between the two parties shall crop-up time and again so as to create peaceful environment in the area and in the interest of general public,” it added. The KU appealed to the Naga political groups and citizens to restrain from creating situations that disrupt peace in the village area and the district headquarter.
DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 30 (MExN): The Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN) has urged the Chief Minister, Ministers, MLAs and MPs of Nagaland state to “first quit their sinful chairs and unite with the rest of the Nagas” so that the real Naga unity may take place. “The real Naga unity involves every Naga who is born of Naga blood and it must be a real unity. If we are going to actually endeavour for real unity, no Naga should be neutral and no one should play double roles or a master role like a wolf in sheep’s clothing,” stated Yirei Lungleng, Kilonser, Rali Wali, FGN. Naga unity has still not occurred, it lamented “due
to lack of truth and reality, as the saying goes, ‘well done is better than well said.’” The FGN asserted that “Nagas were one under the banner of the mandated Naga National Council (NNC) and the Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN) as a nation and it is a must to reunite once again under the same roof to accomplish the unfinished tasks of our nation and not otherwise, lest we continue to suffer.” “It is a known fact that the Indo-Naga conflict is a conflict of invasion against Nagaland and it is the greatest moral conflict for all the Nagas.” Quoting Martin Luther King Jr, the FGN stated that “the hottest place in Hell is reserved for those who
remain neutral in times of great moral conflict”. Affirming that “Nagas are not Indian and Nagaland is not Indian territory,” the FGN called upon the “heirs of the so-called Naga People Convention (NPC), the first faction among the Nagas which made its chairs with the blood and tears of the patriotic Nagas by signing of the 16 point Agreement with India in 1960,” to quit their chairs first. “Then the 68 years old Indo-Naga conflict would easily be resolved at any time in any national or international courts as the birthright that God has gifted us is much mightier than the length and breadth of the invading enemy nations,” it claimed.
