50 Shades of Grey? I think not, It's more like all Black & White.

With fall tip toeing up to our doorsteps I've literally been elbow deep in the latest fashion magazines, blogs, "What's Hot, What's Not" advice, what 's shooting off the Runway unto the shelves catalogs, you name it - making sure that "I know what I know" and Ill be prepared when and in advising clients on how to wear and incorporate the fall fashions coming our way. If you are a follower of the Crystal Nichole Style blog or have friended me on one of the many social sites then you should know my absolutely LOVE for the styles of Fall 2013 Fashion. However, one style has reemerged as a "trend" of course and deserves a post all to its self.

The forever classic, striking, bold, and ALWAYS stylish contrasting color combination of Black & White. I just couldn't let this style be a mere mentioning in "What's Hot THIS for season". No, No, No this color combination is a CLASSIC simply put, a Staple, a must have for your closet. might I add this combo should have BEEEEEN in your closet and if its not....GO GET IT!

“The Black & White combination is as synonymous to being In Style as Audrey Hepburn is to Style, or Vogue is to Fashion.” This is NOT to be mistaken as a trend so please don't sleep on this as just a Fall Fashion 2013 thing. This will be and has been a presence in fashion that will continue to recirculate and resurface. *Remember how I'm always preaching on classic pieces that transcends from season to season, year to year? - Well this is it! Listen, the retail powerhouse, Black House White Market didn't build their whole concept and niche on this for nothing.

The Black & White combination is as synonymous to being In Style as Audrey Hepburn is to Style, or Vogue is to Fashion. So, why am I so over the top on this one particular ingredient in the Fall 2013 Fashion recipe? Well because, I want to make sure that I don't fail to inform you ladies so that you don't sleep on this (like I did on reading 50 Shades of Grey yeah I still haven't read it - Cliff Notes anyone?). Remember, its all about having a functioning and quality filled closet. If we haven't already, let's start by picking up a few pieces to start the building process. For more insight or purchasing information on where you can find the pieces displayed in this blog reach out to me. SDJ

Message to Women Being Sexy Is

Not Enough, by Major Mack.

A

re black women sexy? No doubt! When it comes to

sexiness sisters have no equal. But ca...n I be honest with you? I'm actually TIRED of sexy black women. Now hear me out on this, please. Sexiness don't mean jack snot. Not in the grand scheme of things. Visually appealing, yes. But I can't eat sexiness. Sexiness won't help pay these bills or pay off our student loans. Sexiness won't qualify for a mortgage, or get the IRS off my back long enough to make my next big business move. Sexiness won't help me raise these kids. Neither will it teach my daughters their true worth and value in this world. We got way too many 'Sexy' sistas out here with nothing else to bring to the table. Sexiness is the totality of their package. And that's WACK! Most black men looking for a relationship want a USEFUL woman. Visual appeal alone won't cut it. Besides: there are so many black women competing to be the sexiest, it's not even a race worth entering. Can you cook? Do you clean? Do you have mothering skills Do you love your father? Respect him? Respect other black men in general? Have you divested yourself of prior relationship baggage? Can you hold a conversation about REAL world events? And no: Love and Hip Hop doesn't count! Do you have a REAL relationship with a REAL God: or do you follow the fake one many American Christians have invented for themselves because he's more tolerable than the actual Truth? These are the kind of questions discerning men are asking nowadays. So if sexiness is all you bring to the table, you can keep it. I'd rather have a woman of pure unadulterated SUBSTANCE. And I'm sure I speak for most conscious-thinking brothers out there on this one. There's a new breed of black men out there ladies. And we “ain't” settling for second best or taking any shorts. Either come correct or go get with Tyrone. That's all many of you are use to dealing with anyway... https://www.facebook.com/mack.major.3 By: Major Mack Simply DelaJouere Fashion Magazine®

Failure Not an Option...

Beautiful… Innovative… Quality... Simply Dela Jouere correspondents were able to connect with another emerging successful designer from the Triangle; Thomas Ruffin. Thomas’s background in fashion design is first rooted in his family. Both his mother and father were innovative and well dressed examples for him. Thomas’s earliest memories are of watching his parents prepare for their evenings out, which is where he developed his taste for fabrics and his appreciation of detail and quality in craftsmanship and most of all, his passion for design.

SDJ: How & When did you get your start? TR: From as far back as I remember, I’ve loved seeing people that were into their own style. I had very stylish parents. With that said, I started to take private sewing classes. At age 15, I designed and constructed a pair of simple drawstring men’s pants.

SDJ: What sparked your interest in Fashion Design? TR: Just the whole idea of fashion. Looking at high end fashion magazines along with the heavy desire to be creative; afforded me the opportunity to be where I am now.

SDJ: How would you describe your esthetic (creativity/style)? TR: I love to design classic clothing with a modern feel and distinctive details.

SDJ: Who are your favorite designers? TR: I, adore these three in this order.. The original Gianni Versace, Louis Vuitton and Michael Kors.

SDJ: What do you do in your spare time? TR: I teach 1st graders.

SDJ: Where and when did you receive your formal training? TR: I was initially taught to sew and grade patterns by a pro dressmaker in my birthplace White Plains NY.I then went on to take classes at The Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC .

SDJ: How many collections have you designed thus far. Is there a piece you have designed that you are most proud of? TR: I have designed several collections. No, I don’t really have a favorite. They are all my babies …I love fashion in all its glory.

SDJ: As a fashion designer, what has been your greatest accomplishment(s) thus far? TR: One of them is being involved with the Congressional Black Caucus where the fabulous Iman walk the catwalk in one of my creations… WOW!!! and creating my own business with a client base in several different cities.

SDJ: If given the opportunity to design a garment for anyone, who would you choose? TR: Well right now, I have two people in mind. The multitalented Mr. Tyler Perry and our beautiful first lady Michelle Obama. SDJ: When people look at your designs, what are three words that you want to come to mind ? TR: Beautiful ,Innovative and Quality .

SDJ: What is your inspiration as a designer? TR: I am inspired by so many things, It may be nature or a certain shape that I see in day to day life…I very often get ideas in my dreams.

Simply DelaJouere Fashion Magazine®

SDJ: Do you consider yourself an artist? Do you sketch your designs? TR: Yes I am an artist. However, my forte is not so much in illustration. My main focus is in garment construction but I will do a flat drawing to help facilitate a concept.

SDJ: What's the name of your label and how can people find your work? TR: I am F.N.O. ~ Thomas Ruffin. FNO means Failure Not an Option….People can contact me by phone or Twitter (loveistheword) and on my Facebook page F.N.O. Thomas Ruffin.

Chef Luis Irizarry

Edna Irizarry

“ A culinary experience your guests will remember”

Chef Luis is the proud owner of Trade Street Cafe & Elite Catering and Edna is the Owner, Planner, and Designer of Designs That Dazzle. Luis cooks with soul and passion. The New Jersey native creates boldly flavored, deeply satisfying dishes. He also shares his exuberant, approachable cooking style and infectious laugh with his clients. With the ability to create dishes from many facets of the culinary world, he excels in fine dining, refreshing and simple bistro style food, home-style comfort cooking, as well as upscale catered affairs and banquets. Simply Dela Jouere correspondents were able to quickly grab a second of their time to discuss business, family and keeping it all together. SDJ: How did you get your start? Elite Catering - It was the love of cooking that first brought me to the kitchen, and keeps me there today. While living in New Jersey 1998, I owned a Spanish, southern style café. After retiring from the military, I decided to attend culinary school at Fayetteville Technical Community College. Designs That Dazzle - I have always loved creating beautiful things and making people happy. Decorating for friends and family was the start of it all. They would tell me the theme and I would bring their ideas to life. After 10 to 20 free parties, I realized that I loved it, and it was time to do what I love; plan one of a kind event for others while having fun and making new friends! Designs That Dazzle only needs your vision, and coupled with my ability for creating unique and personalized experiences; your event will be perfect! With over 20 years experience planning Weddings & Events, I am able to painstakingly plan your event to ensure that your day is unique and special.

SDJ: In displaying the true entrepreneurial spirit, how do you juggle it all; business owners, family, board activities, etc.? Although we are two different companies, what we do and how we do it are intertwined together. It is truly a family affair. We work as a family but we also play as a family. During the summer months and on the weekend, our son assists with both businesses. We indeed have fun, and when good food is involved, your happiness is assured. We have learned the importance of down time. We schedule family time. November this year we will be going on a much needed cruise. Working together is not a problem; in fact, we agree that as a couple, we bring a calming effect to one another. SDJ: Chef Luis, what is your signature dish and Edna, what element of deco are you mostly known for creating? Elite Catering –Without hesitation, French-cut, corn bread stuffed chicken breast with an orange marmalade. I have been asked this question so many times; that I decided to use a picture of the dish on my business cards. I also utilize this dish for taste testing purposes. A plate presentation is all about taste, quality, and color. Designs That Dazzle – There is no one design feature that I utilize. My desire is to bring the client’s vision to life. I do not believe in cookie cutter designs. Every client is different, and so is the final design I product for them. Planning the perfect event requires meticulous planning, outstanding food, gracious service, elegant presentation and a dazzling style all your own! SDJ: So, what’s next for Trade St Café, Elite Catering and Designs that Dazzle? We have just opened a new location in Hope Mills, Trade St Café & Elite Catering, 5463 Trade Street. We are offering our southern cuisine with a Spanish Flair. Trade St. Café & Elite Catering 5463 Trade Street Hope Mills, NC

(910) 261-1473 http://elitecateringnc.com/

Simply DelaJouere Fashion Magazine®

SDJ: What challenges have you faced and how have you overcome/handle those challenges? Elite Catering – Clients demand and desire to have too much food. All foods are in suggested serving size. More is not always better. Often time, they put too many selections on the menu. The guests never really enjoy the meal because they are trying to make sure they sample a little bit of everything. The food needs to be the showcase of the event. The meal is the star of the event. I want my clients to have a culinary experience with the food that I prepare. Designs That Dazzle – Individuals do not normally know what they like. With so many different TV shows out there, they have learned the lavish terms to describe the numerous styles of today but they fall short of really knowing what they mean. What kind of bride are you…traditional, elegant, vintage, or chic, simple or modern. Creating a design board is my way of placing the client’s vision on paper. In a box, I am good, but let me out of the box, I can be more creative and produce awesome designs. Untie my hands and let me create and you will be simply amazed!

umba, Zumba, Zumba!!!

By: Angela Tomlinson

North to South, East Coast to West Coast, your town, our town… Zumba Fitness Workout is everywhere! What exactly is a Zumba? Why is this Latin based exercise spreading like a forest wild fire? Simply De La Jouere sought answers and is now bringing them to you. Zumba, the world’s largest form of exercise was born out of an accident. In the mid 1990’s, Alberto “Beto” Perez, a native of Colombia, forgot to bring his music cassette tape to his group exercise class that he was leading. Perez improvised by scrounging up a cassette tape of Latin dance music from his car. Perez pushed play on the stereo and began to lead his class to a Salsa dance to his music of Merenge and Rumba. It was a hit!! His class loved it and week by week, more and more people poured into his class to exercise/dance to what Beto eventually named, “Zumba.” The Zumba craze has spread rapidly to over 125 countries ranging from Canada to China. Big thanks are due to Alberto and his mistake as the world now gathers to dance away pounds. Meladie Capers Why Zumba? Why did Zumba become so popular and why are people rushing to the gyms with excitement to exercise to the Zumba fitness classes? Simply DeLa Jouere asked Zumba fitness instructor, Meladie Capers. “It doesn’t feel like exercise! It feels more like dancing at a great big party. It’s a lot of fun for everyone of all fitness levels,” stated Meladie. Meladie Capers, a thirty year old Zumba instructor, mother of four and originally from Queens, NY started as a participant in a Zumba class. Capers danced away her weight from a whopping 225lbs (dress size 20) to 165lbs (dress size 10). She became a Zumba instructor in February of 2011 and continues to instruct at the Sanford Nautilus and Racquetball Club located in Sanford, NC. Zumba is a full body workout of which various type of music can be exercised to. This cardio fitness program combines dance and aerobic movements. It’s choreography incorporates many styles of Latin inspired dance moves including Hip-Hop, Salsa, Soca, Samba, Mambo, and Merengue as well as some martial arts moves. On average, Zumba burns about 375-800 calories in a 1 hour class. The results of weight loss are sweet! Because Zumba varies from low to high intensity, you can count on burning a lot of fat while you shake your body to high energy music. “Zumba works!” stated Meladie. “The biggest argument from Zumba critics is that this form of exercise is not effective. I am living proof that it works. I have instructed many people and have witnessed the weight loss of those that stick with the exercise. Celebrities are participating in this craze. 48 year old Trisha Brooks, the wife of Garth Brooks went from dress size 14 to 10 in four months by simply changing her eating habits and committing to Zumba classes just three times a week.” Simply DeLa Jouere noticed that Capers smile while instructing is not only contagious but ongoing. When asked how she keeps the smile on while instructing and getting an awesome work out, this is what Meladie had to say. “I am having fun!” “I have always loved to dance and Zumba allows me to dance, release stress, meet great people, inspire others, and be healthy.” “I absolutely love what I do.” Meladie Capers has taught classes with participating numbers from three to over 300. She attends various women events where the music is pumping, lights are flashing, the energy is high, and astronomical amounts of calories are being burned collectively. High fives are given from woman to woman and friendships are created. Who would have ever thought that one man’s mistake would have caused the world to become fit through dancing. Thank you, Alberto Perez for your incredible abilities to improvise and your thoughtfulness to share Zumba with the world.

Wearing White To White or Not to White…? That is the Question By: Rita Ward After Labor Day!

“White can look fabulous, but if you wear it wrong, the look can definitely backfire.”

Do Substitute white jeans for your blue ones in the summer Wear white on white Pair it with other fall colors Substitute a white pump for a nude on for a fresh summer look Wear a little white dress to substitute a little black dress Wear a white blazer and pair it with almost anything such as dark-blue jeans Wear a chunky off white scarf with dark fall/winter clothing Layer it. Try white on white by wearing a basic shirt and then a cool jacket Feel free to add accessories to your winter white. Take that off!! You can’t wear white after Labor Day! How many times have you heard this statement and how many times did you ask the question, why, and never receive a solid answer? Simply De La Jouere is here to rescue you from mama’s ole sayings and set you free into truth. “No offense moms.” The culprit of this generational belief stemmed from the wives of the super-rich after the Civil War. By the 1800’s, the women of millionaire status deemed it necessary to start fashion trends that only the women who were accepted as being in the “in crowd would know. Being a part of the “in” crowd meant that your money was not old but shiny and new money and that you belonged to a highly respected family. So…you guessed it! “Wearing white was a way to identify the “in” women. Wearing white was only to be worn at weddings, vacations, and social gatherings. These dignified people with money would vacation in the summer and would wear white to distinguish themselves as wealthy and of status. Once the deemed summer months were over, white was not to be worn. Labor Day, as it became a federal holiday in 1894, marked the end of the season and the end of vacationing so the wearing of white ended also. This was strongly practiced for years by the millionaire women between the mid 1800’s to mid 1900’s.

Don’t Wear head to toe white denim unless you are going for a Texas tuxedo look. Wear a white dress to a wedding (give that color to the bride) Wear lightweight fabrics in the fall/winter. (keep this for warmer months) Keep it plain (try mixing it up with different textures and patterns) Wear it only as a base layer (wear it on top as a jacket, blazer, or a coat) Be afraid to wear different shades (try colors other than pure white, like cream) Wear white shoes with white pantyhose Wear a yellowing white (keep the whites bright)

Eventually the middle class caught wind of this tradition and began to follow along. This tradition continued from generations to generations right down to mama who told you, “No wearing white after Labor Day!” The truth of the matter is that white is always right at any day, any season, anytime, and anywhere. White has been popping up on fall/winter runways and is now making a bold statement of acceptance past “Labor Day.”

The famous, Coco Chanel bucked the trend of seasonal white wearing as she wore white year round in the 1900’s. We want to caution you on a couple of guidelines to making your white pop and become an attention grabber. White can look fabulous, but if you wear it wrong, the look can definitely backfire. Below are a few guidelines to follow:

Feeling a bit freer now? Don’t be afraid to experiment with white. Make your bold statement by flashing white as you proudly shout, “Down with tradition!” Sorry mamas, Simply De La Jouere has discovered the truth behind after Labor Day wearing of white and now the truth has set us all free!

Go, Make your Mark!
