Jarrod Harding Brand Manager Penrite OilAMX Superstores is proud to continue our partnership with the 2023 Australian ProMX Championship. We extend a warm welcome to all, spectators, riders, race teams and industry supporters.
We are looking forward to another great year of racing ahead, as we know you all are, after an outstanding ’22 season which saw some of the best racing in recent memory.
This is our third year as the ‘presented by’ partner for ProMX, and we are thrilled to be onboard again this year. For AMX, we’ve always lived and breathed MX. From our beginnings in 2008 selling clearance MX gear out of a shed in Bayswater, Victoria, to today with stores across 5 states and an ever-growing team, MX is in our blood. The sport provides the opportunity for everyone to enjoy MX, from spectators to riders to industry sponsors like us, we just love getting involved and having some fun.
We also see our support of ProMX as a small contribution to ensure MX stays where it should be, a well-managed
sport viewed by as many spectators as possible who have a quality experience, whether at the track or watching the live stream or on broadcast TV through SBS. We know our sport is one of the most spectacular, challenging and extreme sports out there today and we want it to grow for the benefit of teams, riders and spectators alike.
We’ll be at all rounds, so come and talk to our team about anything MX. We enjoy getting along to these events, it’s what being involved in this industry is all about and we’re privileged to be here to support racing and just talk bikes for a weekend! And by the way, if you pass by our trade stand, you can pick yourself up some goodies at special ProMX pricing as well.
From team AMX to you, we hope you enjoy the season ’23 Penrite ProMX Championship presented by AMX Superstores, now let’s go racing!
Rob Farrimond Business Manager AMX SuperstoresA brutal third round of the 2023 Penrite ProMX Championship, presented by AMX Superstores, is in the books following a rain-soaked, challenging outing in Wodonga on Sunday, April 16, where Jed Beaton (Thor MX1), Brodie Connolly (Pirelli MX2), and Jack Mather (MAXXIS MX3) took the overall victories in the national categories.
There was no denying returning international Jed Beaton in the Thor MX1 ranks at the Victorian venue, the Boost Mobile Honda Racing rider working his way to an impressive 1-2 scorecard. That result also handed him the red plate for the first time in his homecoming to Australia.
Moto two again saw Beaton take control from the outset, but it was a late charge from three-time MX1 champion Dean Ferris (Brisbane Motorcycles Yamaha), who was a non-finisher earlier in the day, that earned him the final moto win of the weekend. He edged Beaton, with 2015 title-winner Kirk Gibbs (KTM Racing Team) taking P3.
Overall for the round, Beaton captured a well-earned victory ahead of Waters, while Gibbs was in third position. In terms of the championship, Beaton leads by 14 points ahead of Gibbs and Ferris, who ended up P6 overall this afternoon. Defending champion Aaron Tanti (CDR Yamaha Monster Energy) was 15th today, dropping from first to sixth in points.
Beaton navigated the conditions best in moto one to take the chequered flag a remarkable 1m18.567s ahead of the chasing pack, followed by 2019 champion Todd Waters (Raceline Husqvarna Berry Sweet Racing) and multiple New Zealand champion Hamish Harwood (CML Davey Motorsports KTM).
New Zealander Brodie Connolly (Polyflor Honda Racing) has firmly placed his hat in the Pirelli MX2 ring to declare himself as a threat for the championship, racing to a milestone overall victory just three rounds into his first full season of Australian competition.
The second race of the afternoon saw Crawford rebound to top the moto ahead of teammate Minear and Connolly, which resulted in Connolly landing a first-career overall victory ahead of last year’s MX3 class champion Minear and Todd. It’s still Todd who leads the points, now by eight over teammate Connolly, with Minear third.
Connolly put forward a commanding performance to lead qualifying this morning and then went on to win the opening encounter by almost a full minute. He led Jayce Cosford (Yamalube Yamaha Racing) and Wilson Todd (Terrafirma Honda Racing), but the big news was a nonfinish for title challenger Nathan Crawford (KTM Racing Team).
The MAXXIS MX3 class overall belonged to Jack Mather (Husqvarna), using consistency in 2-1 finishes to secure the overall in the most gruelling of conditions.
It was Byron Dennis (GASGAS) who qualified quickest to commence proceedings early on in the day, before Queensland charger Jake Cannon (Yamaha) rose to the occasion in moto one with the win ahead of Mather and Fred Taylor (GASGAS), while Dennis crossed the line in P4.
The afternoon’s second and final outing saw Dennis cross the line first from Mather after making a move in the closing moments, however, a twoposition penalty applied saw Mather instead credited P1. That sealed the latter the overall from teammate Liam Owens, who was P3 in moto two, and Dennis. Mather holds a six-point advantage in the standings.
Wodonga also saw the first of two highly-anticipated MX85 WJMX Qualifier events take place alongside the Penrite ProMX Championship, with some of the sport’s most talented youngsters showcasing their capabilities in a bid to secure a place in the upcoming Junior Motocross World Championship event.
It was Noah James (Husqvarna) who qualified atop the time-sheets, while moto one saw Seth Thomas (GASGAS) win from Jack Nunn (GASGAS) and Lachlan Vincent (KTM). The scheduled second moto didn’t eventuate as a result of the track conditions, meaning that the order from moto one doubled as the overall.

Motorcycling Australia is excited to announce the introduction of the 85cc WJMX Qualifier Cup, a new class that will be featured at two rounds of the Penrite ProMX Championship presented by AMX Superstores (ProMX). The 85cc WJMX Qualifier Cup rounds will be held at Round 3 in Wodonga on April 16th and Round 4 in Maitland on May 7th.
The 85cc WJMX Qualifier Cup will be a part of the ProMX live stream telecast and will see the top three presented with trophies and participate in a full ProMX-spec podium ceremony.
The goal of the 85cc WJMX Qualifier Cup is to develop and identify riders who have the potential to race in the World Junior Motocross (WJMX) event in Romania on July 8th and 9th. The chosen rounds of the ProMX championship have tracks that are like the planned WJMX track in Romania and the race length will be the similar to the world event.
“We are excited at the addition of the 85cc WJMX Qualifier Cup in the ProMX championship,” said Peter Doyle, CEO of Motorcycling Australia.
“The 85 Class will provide a great opportunity for young riders to showcase their skills and develop their abilities in a competitive and challenging environment, while also giving them the opportunity to experience the pressure, conditions, fans, and distractions that they will face at the WJMX event in Romania. Further, this will bring the nation’s best juniors together more regularly.
“The ProMX championship is a great platform for young riders to take the first steps in their racing careers and the 85cc WJMX Qualifier Cup will provide them with the opportunity to take the next step in their development and compete on the world stage.“ The 85cc WJMX Qualifier Cup will be an important factor in the selection process for the WJMX event, but will not be the sole criteria. The chosen riders will be selected by the MA Junior Motocross Selection Panel based on their performances throughout the season.
